Zach Mexico

The number of bands that you can say contribute to the North Carolina music scene that are from Kill Devil Hills are few and far between. However, it won’t take long to realize that Zack Mexico is one of those few bands. Making a big sound through their psychedelic indie rock, Zack Mexico just recently put out a new full length album entitled “Run Out of Money And Die” back in April of this year that provided a solid indication of the potential and growth of Zack Mexico. During Hopscotch, DJ Sal...

Negative Fun Records

Negative Fun was started in 2012 by Chris DeFusco and John Whitney “to document great music, regardless of genre.” They’re independent and release vinyl singles only, recording artists such as Ghostt Bllonde, Hoax Hunters, and Midnight Plus One. Negative Fun separates itself from the rest not only because they strictly record vinyl, but because they don’t confine themselves to a single genre. Their mission is to support great local music, and keep the spirit of independent record labels alive....

Father/Daughter Records

The background behind Father/Daughter Records is literally all in the name of the company; a father and daughter who joined forces to contribute to the greater good that is the music industry. Being out of San Francisco, what brought Father/Daughter Records to the Hopscotch Music Festival is their signed bands that played at the festival this year: Mutual Benefit (Played at Vintage 21) & Gems (Played at CAM). Jessie (the daughter in Father/Daughter Records) was nice enough to sit down with u...

What Cheer? Brigade

Never before have I seen a band perform on the dance floor and the audience dancing on the stage. Instead of taking a bow, the band marched down the stairs of Kings and out onto the streets of downtown. What Cheer? Brigade was not only one of the coolest shows I saw at Hopscotch 2014, but one of the best shows I’ve seen ever!

Greg and Nathan from Hopscotch

Our conversation had me thinking on some of the highlights from my experiences at past years attending the festival. Many of the most fun times I’ve had at Hopscotch or in Raleigh, or at live concerts in general have been sparked by the somewhat spontaneous nature of Hopscotch’s design. By so excellently pairing such interesting and unknown artists together with local acts or more established groups the festival creates an atmosphere that breeds discovery. But while there are great sets at singl...
