There are some big differences between hospital birth and out of hospital birth. There are also good providers and bad providers in both of those spaces. Today we whine about some of the crazy things we have seen while in the hospital. This isnt to bash on the hospital, but to draw awareness to how everyone deserves respectful care no matter where they choose to give birth. Cheers!

We have always recognized a vast difference in regards to birthing outcomes within different cultures and non-white communities across our country. The Unconscious Bias Bill, if passed, is a huge step in filling those gaps within the state of Virginia. Sexual education is so important for our growing children. We have found that the sexual education in our country is sorely lacking in efficacy. It isn't lowering teen pregnancy or sti transmission, and it isn't working well to teach our youth about healthy sexual relationships and boundaries. Kim recently had the privilege of attending the birth of a 5 time repeat client. Our repeat clients are so special to us, so we thought we would make an episode all about what it is like getting to attend these births. As out of hospital providers, we work with low risk clients. There are some gray areas to what is considered low risk and what is considered high risk. Today we discuss some of those factors and how difficult it can be to make the call that someone is too high risk for our care.
Listen in as we interview 2 OBGYN's in a nearby hospital practice. We discuss how much the experience of our clients improves when we collaborate and have mutual respect. Certified Midwives In Virginia are trained to possess and administer medications for birth. Our law in Virginia prohibits midwives from doing this. Midwives In all states but 2 legally can use medications to help make birth safer. The Virginia Midwives For Safe Community Births are actively working to change this outdated and dangerous law.
