¶ TURN 2 - Let's Talk About Hex
Hi and welcome to Whose turn is it anyway, you're here with me James the First player. I'm here with JP. Howdy, Rob, Becky.
I'm just gonna say hello normally
¶ Rob - Ashes Reborn: Rise of the Pheonixborn
with our French listeners,
well, guten Abend and Duolingo German
man we got a bit German instead. Right? And we're here to talk your ears off and somehow you guys listen to us. Thank you so, we're gonna start by talking about hex, and what we've been up to what ballgames we've been playing. We'll start with you, Rob, because we all know that you've played a million board games by now.
Yeah, so many. Too many to count. Yeah, played a lot of board games at the Devon ball game weekend. Took one game that I was really really wanted to play. And of course didn't play it because we got sidetracked playing other games. dead of winter.
Yeah,
we spoke no, no, no, no. The reason that we didn't play is because you got hung over I was very hung over. Very very. We talked about you last night I was very very
instead you were the shade of a zombie. You went off a green
I went outside and walked around for about an hour. Just trying to feel better. But no we play a lot of board games. But one of the new games that I played that I subsequently came home and ordered immediately was Ashes Reborn. I had a wonderful time playing it. Thanks to the person who bought it and had a lot of fun playing it and yeah, came home and ordered it immediately. Me and JP managed to get gaming on Friday night after we got our asses whupped thoroughly on Burn Cycle.
We just wandered around. Yeah, and then just crap. Yeah,
we thought horribly. What is Ashes Reborn. So
it's a competitive, it's a competitive card game in the similar vein of magic, but their pre constructed decks. So literally, we took them out of the box and played with them immediately. And the Teach game. Total lasted What 40 minutes, though fun an
hour, but you know, it wasn't.
So a lot of fun, really easy to get to grips with. So looking forward to playing that again. And I've already got one of the expansions on pre-order. And it's my birthday coming up. So I think I'll be getting quite a few more but but no, I thoroughly enjoyed playing it. I know there was bit of a bit of a history with the game.
Yeah, yeah, I have looked into the previous edition of eBay. It was so hard to get hold off
the original Ashes, wasn't it?
Yeah. The Phoenix born Yeah. And then.
So this is actually was reborn. So they've really kind of packaged it, rereleased it and plays very well. And it was a lot of fun. So I highly recommend it. So yeah, it's a one v one primarily. And yeah, we had a lot of fun. So highly recommend it
A co-op version coming out as well.
That's why I've pre ordered it's not coming out I think until q2 That's all the information that I've got by order them both at the same time. So single player version of the game, and they Co Op as well. Yeah, yeah, really looking forward to that. Coach my thing so yeah, I'm very, very much looking forward to it
Called ashes because that's what you're going to do with your money. Pretty much.
My bank balance
is a new game and expansion. When I played it, obviously were robbed on Friday. And I'm not like I like my card games. Don't get me wrong. I love Netrunner never played much and he loved
you loved Keyforge. I think you say you're not into games. I think you're into the trading card game aspect. Yeah,
I think you're right. And I'm not into it when it gets too serious. Yeah, I think I like the casual element of it. But now I really really enjoyed Ashes. It's been playing around in my mind. You've posted at least twice this week saying why don't we play Absolutely. Is a clean system. No.
Likened too the most, Magic? Yeah, but as you probably would enjoy magic.
Yeah. Well, we got your spell dice. All that and then you spend those spell dice that you
plan your moves and everything else but if you haven't got the dice rolls, yeah, it kind of forces you to kind of think
which adds even more on the you can Yeah, lay there. Yeah, that's cool. You can manipulate dice
And yeah, I thought it was a nice spin on that sort
I loved my character, which is what's she called Maeoni Viper. So it's basically a snake lady. She just summons this massive silver snake that you just pump, like attack damage on nice. And every time anyone gets killed, it just eats it and gets stronger. And it just honestly, this thing is just deadly. I loved it.
I couldn't kill it. I left it too long. It was too powerful. But the thing is, you can summon it again. Yeah. So it's yeah, getting used to that aspect. Because I'm thinking I'll quit. I really don't want to lose that unit. But I'm like, I can just summon it again.
Ya know? So?
Yeah, it was really enjoyable. I think tactically, it's quite. It's deeper than it seems. Yeah. Like you'd have to get used to your character. Characters is there was six in
And you always play with the same deck which was pre the box. constructed? You don't have to okay, you can
You can deck build. But to start with you, we literally unwrapped them shuffled them played with them. Right. You know, there was no construction to it.
That can put some people off, can't it that kind of I
¶ Becky - Lost Ruins of Arnak
have to construct my deck, I have to do research first. And there's always kind of, you know,
there's a lot more resources now. It's pretty much a db.net as in deckbuilder. Don't
It is a barrier, isn't it? You could just literally play from the box.
To me, rock up here's the deck, play.
Keyforge so much. Yeah, I think that you're right, because I do I wouldn't mind getting back into Keyforge for 2.0. And that eventually comes back, isn't it? It will be coming back. All right. Let's move on over to you then Becky.
So we played another game of Lost Ruins of Arnak really recently. And I just really liked that game. So I've only played it with the expansion. So to me that is how the game is I can't compare Yeah, I can't compare it to just the base version because I haven't played that and maybe, maybe I'd find that I don't know empty without it. I like it. I can't
it's just the powers it takes out pretty much it's just those you know those ages. Yeah, that's it. Just those leaders it
just a special abilities. Yeah, but yesterday I played the just takes those are Explorer. So she's got like little snacks. Yeah, she leaves around was like yeah, that's all you've eaten all my snacks again. It's like real life might be going to you know, explore idols. But I've I've eaten all my snack and I can't do anything else
Not Kerley's Bombay mix.
So yeah, it's, it's, I think it reminded me very much of Lords of Waterdeep crossed with I don't know, I can't think of what kind of deck builder I would like it to come back to that.
I say it's unique. And then like three different games around that time kind of came out with that mechanic, but it was Dune. Yeah.
Yeah. Okay. Endless Winter is the nearest thing to Even with people that haven't played board games I found but I really enjoyed it, because it's, it is quite a bit thinkey because the iconography is quite clear. And it's quite vibrant. I but it's not. Oh, my God, I've got AP, what can I possibly do? You know? Yes, yeah, it's just a really good game. Very, very easy to understand and grasp. But I didn't win either time I've played so hard to muster.
And when I looked back at the my kind of because when you score is the score at the end on a little pad. How many did you get for this thing? How many points did you get for that thing? Both mine was very similar both times. So I kind of clearly didn't, didn't change my I felt like I changed my tactics, but obviously not. But it was really good. I really enjoyed it. Yeah. And Tambo played it with us yesterday. And it was his first game. And he was like the Teach
took 10/15 minutes. Like just, I think if you've already got a lot of board game knowledge, it tags onto a lot of other things. Yeah, it's got nothing surprising in it, but I like how it meshes together and the deck building placement thing, played with my family and I've played with to like a group that doesn't use play board games and they picked up Yeah,
yeah. I liked and the pieces are very nice, obviously important for me, but the actual, the actual kind of tokens the resources that you're using, you've got little stone tablets or plastic but they look like like a Rosetta Stone. You've got these little beautiful arrowheads of blue that look very flinty, and you've got a nice big ol Ruby.
It's just a compasses the compasses of the level with, and the money well,
The first time we played it, we played with our metal money, which makes sense but yeah, the compasses do need a bit more than
Need someone to 3d printed, are awful. That's too much effort as well. Well, I
Well, when I get my 3d printer filament back out. Maybe,
maybe there we go.
We played Frosthaven last week and I said What's that like? And before I know it, we've got a game booked
You were only being polite, weren't you? Yeah.
Oh, that was quite cool. What's that, and Kerley's ike do you want to play it? I do want to play it. And he said, I will check with Becky and then yeah, before I know it, I've got a game night in my house in two weeks and you'll enjoy for people. So it was so up for instance, it's a
¶ JP - Star Wars Rebellion
really great game, just the right way to think that you would enjoy awesome so it's nice. You know, you love Dune Imperium? Yeah, it's a similar weight to that.
I'd like to play till the end sometime.
That'd be nice. Yeah. That was a war.
Yeah, spice, spice rum.
But I'm really looking forward to you guys coming over and playing it because it looks interesting. Yeah, I think you will
How about you JP?
yeah, I am going to talk about Star Wars rebellion. Me and Kerley managed to get a game in the other day the other night and played that game for ages. But for anyone who doesn't know what Star Wars rebellion Well, Star Wars is the hidden but rebellion it's a one v one very deep tactical and strategy game cat and mouse Empire versus rebels. You're literally like playing all three of the the original trilogy, all in one
kind of boardgame. And the Rebels start with their Rebel base hidden as one of the planets. And they're kind of goal is to last as long as they can. During specific missions, targeted missions against the Empire sabotage and along as they go. And the Empire's sole purpose is to just be decks and find the level base and blow it
up. Yeah. And and it's that what I love about the game and I've forgotten because it's usually like a good year or so before I keep playing it and it's just one of those great games that doesn't get played enough. But as I was the Empire player clearly was the rebels. And at the start Kelly was like, my god, I've got like no ships I'm supposed to win and then I'm gonna sit there with the empire with like, I've got Deathstar coming down the track I've got Star Destroyers are everything
inside. This is great. Yeah.
And it do feel you do feel like you've got a weight coming down on you playing as the rebels. You just got to try and get away. Yeah, and you can feel the sweat forming. My planet, please don't flip up over that planet. No, no, no, no. It's the only cat and mouse game. There's like it really I can't think of anything to even liken it to
No, I mean, I suppose you could say War of the Ring skills of not saying it's the same game but it's that one v one grand kind of event gain that I suppose less cat and mouse because you're both warring. And you probably aren't then if you're equal way it may be the shadows and Mordor has as an edge on the field. But obviously you're trying to sneak or Frodo into Mount doom
I can actually see I doubted it. So if I can actually see the similarities and what we talked about not only will track as well. Very similar to rebellion
they're similar similar ish. But for me, because it's Star Wars. It's like yeah,
I was sold on this game mean you played
probably about a year ago. Yeah, but that wasn't it. Yeah, it was a year ago.
And I was sold on this game with you can have two Death Stars. That was all I knew about the game. I was I mean, I mean,
it's hard to do though, I think isn't it
to get the right projects? Yeah.
What like you said wonderfully tense game when somebody's thinking about going near your planet. But you've got to play poker face because
The fury of Dracula that kind of all the getting nearer
Yeah it has that there's no kind of hidden movement as such, but you you have to bluff and you have to, like misdirect the opponent especially as rebels and kind of say yeah, I'm a massive forces over there. So of course my rebel base is over on this side of the map, when clearly it's not. And it takes a while to get your units across the map to search planets anyway, but obviously every round you're sending the probes out you're knowing where their base isn't you're eliminating
Like Battlestar, not Battlestar what an I saying, Battleships Yeah,
So the kind of net closes in every round
You sank my Deathstar
to kind of like it yeah, because we've just sold our copy I say we've just sold our copy he's just sold his copy I packaged it up
¶ Davey - Thank you Marcus for lending us Atiwa
It's cosI own it, but I have alwyas owned it
Did you not notice that every game Kerley sold, JP has?
I wasn't paying that much attention. I was just trying to think how can I package this really well and I've got some foam and I've got some boxes? I wasn't really was all the thought process.
Do you own Europa as well?,
no, you didn't get it. That was a joke. I
did not enjoy it then.
We know anyway, that's a little aside doesn't Not but yeah, Star Wars brilliant. Now.
I haven't actually played any games. I've been too busy lysing that game, and I know. But what I will say is Atiwa when we played at Devon ball game weekend, it was lent to us by Marcus. I forgot to say thank you. And thank you. I wouldn't have been able to play it without you. You're a great guy. We love you, Marcus. What we need very much Marcus. He's a friend of the show. You're my talk about hex section. Alright.
He's not gonna talk about a game. He's gonna talk about you Marcus? Yeah. And all Marcus's out there. Yeah, exactly.
It's yeah, it's just very kind of it
¶ TURN 3 - Would you rather...tabletop edition
was a great thing because we are managed to play the copy as well. So. And yeah, and I think a lot of people wanted to play and you were like being very protective. And it was nice of you to be Yeah, it
was a responsibility. Both hands when
can I play? It sounds to me like it's not really my copy and
dirty fingers you
You might put rum in it
with bats, it's probably more like I might but guano over it This segment, we're not actually going to be talking about anything real or proper. We're going back to the school yard. And we're going to do a would you rather? So I'm gonna lay down some rules. So because you're very,
very stern.
Yeah, you can't say listen,
For the listeners, he's got his glasses on. Tell he's got his business Face on. glasses on and he's looking and he's got a notepad and everything.
The only thing I've underlined is rules. So number one, no loopholes. And would you rather people always love to loophole it, don't spoil it. So you got to pick one, two, your answers a final you got to live with that. Alright. And that's it. And three, what I say goes
as far as your the first player,
I'm not actually gonna be playing, but I'm just going to be discussing what you guys. Yeah, exactly. I'm gonna just be bounce because I know the answer. Like, I've looked at them. And I've seen them and they made me laugh already. So
¶ Would you rather play On Mars on planet earth or Earth on the planet Mars?
instead, I'm just
You can throw in what you would have gone with just because we want to know Yeah, fine.
There you go. Alright, so we're a lot of people have actually written in and given their would you rathers. So thank you very much. We can't read them all out. Because there were just too many. And I had good fun reading them. So it hasn't been wasted. I promise you and who knows we might do another segment.
I think we've got enough to do three. Yeah.
So starting off, we've got Augustine
From the gaming rules Slack channel.
Yeah, there we go. So would you rather play on Mars on the planet earth or earth on the planet Mars? It's. Yeah,
I've only played one. Yeah. So I'll go with TM on earth
TM on earth? Yeah.
Are you Becky?
Well I actually want to buy Earth, I've been looking into it. Good. So I'm gonna put my oxygen suit on and go and play Earth on Mars
So you're gonna hop on with Elon Musk. Off you go. Well, he was not asked to be on this ship. So you'll be right. Yeah. And then
¶ Would you rather stand on 4 D4's in bare feet or swallow a meeple whole?
that was useful. May I give you that?
I'm gonna say Earth on Mars because it hits two things. It's a new board game. By new board game. Yeah, and I've always got a thing about going to Mars and it's awesome.
And plus when you go to Mars, you just take a load of boardgames with you.
And I'll take Terraforming Mars? Yeah, there you go. And as a no loopholes kind of allowed it now.
Well, I wouldn't say it's the only board game so I think you're right. And I will join us. Let's go to Mars. Yeah, fuck it. Sorry listeners. So this one made me laugh. It made me laugh quite a while actually. Rick Howard has put Would You Rather tread on for D4's in bare feet or swallow a meeple whole
4 D4's, I mean they are quite pointy,
the point is one that's the worst one it turns on the position of me
I'm going D4's
you're gonna D4 mainly because your feet are like really thick on any like Rhino skin
Any parent has stood on LEGO it's like an absolute mother but it also goes away very quickly.
You don't want to be finding that people doubt you know later on.
But more I'd be more upset that my one of my games is missing.
Oh no, we've said No, sir. It
depends on the size of the meeples as well.
You If it's not getting,
like human size Yeah.
I think you like the ones from car. Ones. bigger chunks the nose. Yeah.
But I don't think you either want my death to be choked on a meeple but he wouldn't
digest would it? It would just kind of
cool could you imagine to go to hospital because you can't pay for outright and they're thinking you're some kind of weird pervert
Stuck a meeple up your bum. Yes.
Eating it back to me. You're eating and finding a friend right so it's not pooping out you're gonna have to cut someone open and do a laparotomy on them
there you go for the sake of a meeple for the sake of sticking with D4's. You swayed me?
No, you can't change.
I didn't say I didn't say an answer. I'm pretty sure you know, it's argued with their point about the meeples. The size of the meeple
rules is you're not allowed change rules.
There we go. When I say goes is the last arguing oversees all of our rules. And so it's all about the size of your meeple. That's what appreciate you. Yeah, thank you. Yeah, that made me it made me chuckle when I read.
We you know, we do a lot of removal of foreign bodies and
¶ Would you rather live forever (playing one game) or live for 6 months (play every game)?
taking things out of people that shouldn't be there. We've never taken out a meeple as far as I'm kidding. Oh, yeah. Not Yeah.
What would you do if it was one of us on the table? Well, I'm just gonna look dodgy and then it
would abide by the rules of confidentiality, and I would not bring it up. I would absolutely laugh my ass off privately.
But sitting around the table might be quite interesting.
Your the brown meeples, Rob you're the brown ones. Thank you, Rick.
So then we've got Scott Hill from Scott plays. I got that same breath for this one. I sir. So nice, long one. Would you rather live forever, but only be able to play one game you choose the game all present expansions are included and all future expansions will be sent to you? Or be at a gaming convention with a library of every game you could ever want to play and the right group of people for every game but only
live for six months. Oh, oh, so if you choose live forever, I also want to know what game
live forever too many bones. Yeah, we
could have predicted that.
I'll be happy.
But then also bluffing about your opponent. You just don't play by yourself. Yeah, I'm gonna play by yourself. Yeah, that's true. That's true. I'll be dead. Literally everything dead around you just JP there are too many.
Bones is never gonna rust or break because it's
gonna last forever. Until other immortals appear and we have to go into like Highlander off to Mars. They can. There can only be one lambda
if you shut down teaching in the room.
We don't fight with Katana blades. We play too many bones or die.
It's a great game. I swear.
We've got forever to play a good job. It takes forever. That's my I'm sticking with it. Yeah, fair enough.
I don't think I'd want to live forever at all. No, I don't know. I don't want to die in six months. Okay, I'm gonna live forever. And I'm gonna just backtrack. I was always thinking out loud. Really? Do I get to pick someone else who lives forever as well? No. So
by the looks of it, it's just you.
Yeah, so then you got to watch. Or
you can play against other people but they're probably die. Well, they will die.
Probably yeah. Gonna die.
Oh, don't? Do you get really
good at the game. You'll be able to beat everyone but then
it's a severe lack of other players. Yeah,
that might get depressing. beat everyone else.
I could literally play any game for all eternity. You know, I still won't necessarily win every time that I can. I mean, Terraforming Mars is it's got the longevity, isn't it? Because it's so varied. Yeah. And maybe I might get good at that. All right, live forever. Terraforming Mars.
There we go. We've got to live
forevers who wants to live
by you, Rob.
I don't know. You don't know. This is really stumped me. Cuz
I already put in my two cents then. Because good because I'm gonna die in six months anyway, so it's fine, because I'm gonna choose the six months Why not six months play? Everything done in six months was short anyway. Fuck it.
Yeah, yeah. For six months. Six months? Yeah.
As long as
six months to play most of the games. I'm just say go live forever.
You're gonna live forever. Yeah. It's one of those where you're playing. Everyone you love die around. You might
have To do that anyway,
so you can get new girlfriend. Sorry
Damian. Sorry, Amy.
You don't want to live forever. Yeah.
That's it so he could get new girlfriend, we're
not talking about it. I'm
busy with my one game. I can live forever.
Let's face it, you're sitting there plenty, many bones, you're not getting anyone else
I would have said Descent. But if you live in forever that that laptop probably gonna last for three or four years. That's true. If you're playing on your own, you need the laptop, so you probably gonna have to go out and buy a new laptop every three or four years. And by that point, there might not be laptops,
right? You could just have it internally in your brain work anymore.
I'm gonna say zombies. Okay, okay, fun to play, easy to play loads of scenarios, because JP sold me all his expansions. I'm very grateful for them. Yeah, somebody said, I think for me, I'm gonna
chase six months because I'm not playing Zombicide
you have six months to fly.
I was a tough one. We got real deep on that as well. It was like,
Well, how else you want to take part really? This?
¶ Would you rather play a game your luc warm about with friends or introduce a new game to strangers?
There's only one way to go.
But now I just want to say thanks for that Scott. Scott helps kind of play some online listserver games. I play with him. Thanks. Yeah,
cuz if we don't have to Scott, thanks for coming up.
We are we got a sneak peek. Everyone Inventions the latest Lacerda. I'm excited, man. It's awesome. Actually. Tomorrow night? Yeah. Yeah. All right. Forgot.
chuckling or is
it just want someone wrote it's made me chuckle every time I've written it. This one is from Martin. Yeah. And he's put in? Would you rather play a game that you're lukewarm about with friends? Or introduce a game that you love to strangers?
No. This is a tough one. It's a tough one
Because sometimes it's experienced while you're playing, isn't it? Because sometimes, yes. You can play like when we played hunger as an example. The game was fine. Yeah, it was it was really warm. wasn't the best game, but it was really good fun. Yeah. So it is a hard one. And there are some games like that. I've just went and played that. I'm kind of like, okay, but I play with friends. So in fact, there you go. I've given my
answer my answer as well. Because for me, the interaction around the tables a priority. So
playing with strangers as well. Yeah.
Would you rather Yeah. Well, I'd rather play with friends. There you go. So shape is
alongside me,
I think I would rather play with friends. But in this instance, I'm going to say, I'm going to play a game I really love with people I don't know, in order to gain new friends and to convert people into board games, because I think if you're passionate about something that comes through, doesn't it and if I can understand a board game, I'm pretty sure I can make most of the people understand it.
Yeah, it didn't stipulate with the strangers were in the hobby or not to do.
And they're not and I'm going to convert them. Okay, there you go.
Go the other way. Like go playing games with Strangers. Strangers, yeah. Be people that I never met before I find that
¶ Would you rather have a phenomenal game with a bad rule book, or an ok game with a perfect rule book?
you can get it because the ballgame is the focal point. You can talk a lot of crap around the table. And it'd be fun. Because when you meet someone for the first time, you've always got that freedom to be a little bit different to how you are normally and almost like reinvent yourself a little bit. Not massively
Batman. Yeah.
I know, I quite like the new interactions with people. And I'd go that way.
Yeah, cool. That was a good question. So we've got one from Marco twosie. Would you rather have a phenomenal game with a bad rulebook? Or an OK game with an almost perfect rulebook? Bad rulebook? Phenomenal game? Yeah, yeah.
In fact, we've done that's what we do. That is easy. It's an easy one for me. Yeah, there we go.
I don't tend to use rule books a lot because I just make everyone else or would you play the game?
They all didn't know because the rulebook was so bad even playing it wrong the whole time. In fact, I'm a little component in here. Gone. No internet, you cannot watch videos you can't. You have to learn you have to learn from that rulebook. And it's a bit harder than is so bad. That you don't know if you're playing
it right.
Is it? Are you still having fun when you play one
not two because the rules if you're playing the wrong suddenly just be like this game is broken. This game's like, not playable. So for me actually, probably an okay again, the perfect rulebook because one during the Teach for everyone is going to be quite easy and they go I said I was going to Why and here I am.
I think you should play along. I still stand by my answer. There we go. Yeah, I think I think you can't change anything. No, exactly. I'm elected and then you change the rules. But you know what?
That's why the rules in there
No, I think if the rulebook was that bad, and I had to use it, I know the game's phenomenal. Right? So the game is good. I've just got to crack it. Like a puzzle. Yeah. And that is a game in itself. And I quite liked learning games to be fair. Yeah. And have gone through many bad rulebook in my time. And
it's usually you doing the teach most games? I always think oh, I can do the teach now I know the game and then I go to do a teach and I'm gonna share this it's already the perfect rulebook, so I can be like, there you go. There's the rulebook.
I'm going average game, perfect rulebook if I have to learn it by playing the rulebook Yes. For as long as I mean, because phenomenal game is subjective, isn't it? What you think is from a game On Mars for example, or some? Sure sure. You're wrong Exactly. So I am piggybacking on other people's opinions there. Well, yeah. It did look, You know, not something that I would enjoy, perhaps. No, just lots of pieces and lots of too many decisions. Not enough time in my life. That's true. Yeah,
it's true those good game, but I love it.
Yeah. So yeah, I think I'm going for a game that's okay. that I enjoy. But it has a stonking rulebook. Okay,
I agree with you though.
Can I just confirm something with your question? Yeah. What's a rule book? I've never read one.
So we know your answer. Either.
¶ Would you rather play Exploding Kittens or explode a kitten?
rule books are included just to contain more artwork. I have no idea that that actually just be part of the box you me wonderful game terrible work for me the more like guidelines. From my point of view,
Rob will find his own game. And I'll have a great time.
Playing chess hour for miniatures
that's fine. But that's a great show actually get some money. Yeah, for me, that'd be that one wonderful game terrible robot.
Yeah, yeah, there we go. So I've got another one here from Scott Hill. You just put in too many good ones. Would you rather play Exploding Kittens or no explode a kitten and I'd say no, no kittens are harmed doing this right?

They will be if you do that, but I meant during this recording. We're not harming any kittens. Depends
what the kitten does.
The kitten does. Yeah. Was in you have to like have a moral reason to execute.
I mean, I'm not I'm not in the habit of blowing up defenceless cute animals as as a pastime. That's fine.
This is sanctioned action.
I'm no murderer. I'll play Exploding Kittens.
And I quite liked Exploding Kittens, so I'm happy to play
with it. It's fine.
It's a tough one. I really don't like Exploding Kittens.
But do you like exploding cats?
No. This is why it's so difficult.
I just like Exploding Kittens, but not the card game.
You've paid your Yeah. Do you know what I play Exploding Kittens? I'd rather play any board game including Rummikub
in all honesty, I can do it. I couldn't exploit a kitten. I keep seeing my cat. I know I'd see Mochi. What if she's facing?
What if it goes out to be like you know Skynet of kittens, and it takes over the world. Cyber kitty exterminates 95% of human life and people would cheer you for killing that kitten.
Yeah, I don't think anybody would cheer anybody for killing a kitten?
You wouldn't know no one would know that. So therefore you would

Don't get confused guys.
That's a great question. Maybe I was genuinely told them that
was easy, but the more I thought about it, it kind of got a little bit more difficult. So This is from Charlotte Taylor. Would you rather go first in a game that's new to you? Or go last in your favourite game? Because I thought to me new games are fine. I'll just go first. But then on the more thought about it, I thought well, but not playing my favourite game. I'm playing a new game, but I didn't really like playing new games. See, it's hard.
So new good. Would you rather play a new game but go first? Yes, or your favourite game or go last? Yeah, because the favourite game, you know really well. And you know, going last usually a disadvantage,
usually. Yeah. And sometimes it's just, it's gonna take so long to get around.
I would say new game first. I like playing new games. And it doesn't ever faze me going first. Met. There you go.
Unknown game going last. Yeah. Cuz, you know, sometimes you get advanced use more resources.
More thing? Points. Yeah,
I'm gonna go for that.
Yeah, I'm gonna go same as Becky last because whenever we play a new game, if I go first. I Trasher Yeah, I thought okay, if I if I can see the AP man. If I can see somebody take their

turn. I'm not alcohol. Right. I kind of get the process a bit better. Yeah. So for me, I think I'd rather go last time on it. Me that one of my favourite games. That'd be
good. And you
mostly I play co op games. So it's
no difference either way. No, no.
For me, Oh, yeah. I think it's actually going to be go first. And again. It's new to me. I don't mind I like what I paint new games. Doesn't bother me too much. Yeah, there we go. So we've got one from James McCann. For me. Here we go legendary returns. Would you rather only play one game for a week with your mate or play games every day, but only with your spouse or fan slash?
This is awful. That's an awful question.
Who do you love more?
Don't think it's about who do you love more? I think it would my wife kill me. At the end of the week.
Does she love you?
That would severely put into the Play Games ever? Yeah.
You Becky?
Well, I mean, I've got a nice yeah, I'm happy playing with
your spouse is also in the gaming group.
And we probably play a game together once a week probably so. Yeah, there we go. All of it is fine. Now. That's my loophole.
No, no loopholes.
I will pay friends once a week.
Chow. Chow.
was happy with that.
Because every time every day, we're like we're playing a board game. She'll just go.
Just say you never see your family again. Oh, oh.
Now he pretends he's gonna change his answer
Maybe saying it from my own preservation that if I forced my wife to play a board game every night? I wouldn't last that long. It wouldn't be married would you know? I'd be buried under the patio. So I'm gonna go one game a week with friends.
Yeah. Yeah,
I think that's, that's where I'm gonna go as well. Because if I played with my family, they enjoyable games, but not as much as me. Yeah. And I think I would slowly drive
very few people on this planet that enjoy playing board games as much as you Yeah, that's it.
I play all games. I know.
They want to play the games that we want to play. Any game? Yeah. But do you really want to like a heavy experience? They just want to do with you, my
brother will play those. So this is one of those things where so. But I just think they wouldn't want to play all the time. Every day. I think slowly, it would drive them mad. Whereas I'll be like, I'll be fine. Their sanity would just go down the drain. So I'm saving them if anything for a selfless act to play with

doing what would be interesting is to find out what Kerley would say. Would he rather play four games every day with me? Games that I would play or would enjoy playing? Or would he rather sack that off and play with a group once a week?
Weird I can hear I can hear his laughter and
evil sprung into my bet was I could still play the one to you right?
He's quite a dilemma.
Because he wouldn't be able to play half of the three quarters of the games he enjoys playing if it was just playing with me or maybe he would

Just played risk.
In France.
Yeah, ironically, that would be one game a week with friends that lasts a week.
That's true. It's true. Yeah, I think I think Kerley would pick them one game a week with friends. I hope that you would use a caveat. I'm allowed to play as well, because I'm a friend.
If you listen carefully, right in
Yeah.
Thank you, Jimmy. Good question. Yeah. Yeah, so now we've got some questions from the internals, the people in the group and we'll call them the internals now.
The not the eternal Yeah, exactly.
So crispy. Small Chris. Chris was smooth and crispy. Yeah, like an air fryer Chris I think that's a good thing.
When I speak to a
ninja said would you rather play a character or class you hate? Or give someone else or teach someone else your favourite character? Therefore you can't play it? And I'm guessing this means forever. So think about too many bones now JP face, you know,

Have to keep coming back and playing it?
That's fine, because I just play my favourite character when they're not there. No, you can't.
You're not allowed to play there again.
No one's playing the first one where someone's actually throwing their toys out the problem. I like it. So what about you, Becky?
Well, I don't know that I've got a massive affiliation for any particular kind of character is. If I was like picking a computer game character, I just go for the one that was the easiest. So I might just go for like, the tank or the you know, the one that just does something simple rather than a hit stuff. Well, yeah. Whereas actually, I'm not really
interested in combat. So I wouldn't necessarily choose a comp so one that I might want to play might be very complicated in which case clue would play it. I think I'd rather teach the one I really like because then you're still interested. Yeah. Yeah. And you're getting someone else interested? Yeah.

somebody you know, a character that I love.
Yeah. And I have played a class that I hate in Gloomhaven which was the elemental list. I hated that character hated it. I can't wait to burn those cards. So if I just immediately thought of how to play that forever Nope. Yeah, no, thank you.
Yeah. Honestly go on the one I the one I hate because I want to see anyone else have fun.
Standard debut response.
I love the way you've got first player and go full deck
so now we have one crew from someone. Oh me. Got would you rather have one big box that has to store all your games without their original boxes or lots of little boxes all unmarked.
Oh, clean your mouth out
it's horrible. Isn't So one big box.
So one big box? Yeah. Which has to store all your games in the original box you'd be dragging this box around people's houses and be like we're gonna play a game. We've learned
how to trigger people having a mild panic attack. JP looks like he's gonna throw up.
No, we're not allowed loopholes. I know. We're not allowed later. My question Oh, I
know. I know the answer to this. So we're gonna have baggies right? You all are baggies.
Okay, so I'm gonna put all the components into each small buggy and then into one big baggy. That's for that game.
No, no, no, no, no, no,
individually. So you can use baggies for individual components.
You can Only 17
baggies that are in that games box. If there's not one big enough to store everything I've got my answer is they
got to be the unmarked boxes
loads of little box and asked to be
part of the game that wouldn't it like a game? You'd
imagine putting away your game for you.
I know he's like everyone puts my game away wrong. So get these boxes
you know when he's getting really funny, right? Because yeah, I'm gonna help pack up you don't know. Get yourself on. Oh no,
just bugger off. Now I've got like, I've played Twilight Imperium and I always know the certain people in the group have played certain colours. Because nothing's
working. It's mostly
there when you coax in a white box, each box each game,
little boxes, little boxes. Yeah. So rather than baggies, everything's in a box, remember, but since it's in the calyx, it can only be stored in the kallax these little boxes, so you can't like Wait separate them and there's another
way to store both Yeah, exactly.
I don't think I've got the question. Right. So they're not in their original boxes that just happened to be white now and you don't know which ones they are?
Yeah, no, that's so small. But they're small.
Small box again could be in 10 seconds. It could be
boxes. It in one big box.
I'd run up assassin because I have some sort of visual system. I know what column and row the games are in my head. alphabetize or something? Yeah, exactly.
I've got a character's own thing with things like that. Not not board games. By all my arts and crafts and stuff. I do have a kallax and I've got a and one so I know it's in a one and I find blue gun is in C to

also, you could just take a box around and someone's like we're gonna play a game today.
Dave your film? And to be honest, I think most tokens are interchangeable, right?
Yeah. Oh,
I have got a loophole because my tokens are not interchangeable. We've got the bling version so I'd be able to pick wingspan out like that

everybody a big box. Yeah, just a freak these guys This one's made me laugh as well. So this is from big Kris. Big Kris. Really? Yeah, big Kris with a K. So would you rather play a game of Battlestar Galactica with all the Cylons? Yeah, or none of the cylons? this love it.
Oh, love it. Oh, the Cylons. For me that was one of my favourite moment.

but you're not allowed to reveal.
No, though, do don't know you got around to that is but you don't know that. It's all Yeah,
yeah. So I'm going for everyone's not a Cylon. Because then all of the hardwood is definitely you. Look at your face and no one is and that'd be brilliant.

Multiple time. Not even a would you rather anymore. Do you remember? Let me put one. Shell we have a girl?
Do you remember? Yeah, she says to put one. Would you rather play the same game for the rest of time or play a different game each time but only once? Oh, I know my answer I, I'm going to go with a different game only once because it's pretty much what I do. I like discovering new games and designs and and learning about like, you know, just the way games have evolved and I'll probably keep me happy for the rest of the time. To be honest.
I can't think of anything worse. Really can't think of anything worse. Just you'd be like, Oh, that's how it works. I just Oh, I would just defeat my your crush my soul because I love the experience. No, no, I I just I just would It would be so demoralising knowing I'm gonna get I'm gonna get burned the game that's it done. No, I don't think I could do it.
I don't want to play one just one not the game just one
maybe a new game only once but as well because you think the alternatives right so if you go back to Hero Quest, right so say when we're back then the same right? I'm choosing Hero Quest to play for the rest of my life. Like how far board games have gone and then you're stuck playing with it. And you're not in you can't play

That's very tight. No, I didn't actually say fizzy drink is Rum. Yeah. Okay. After Rum rush sticky sleeves or sticky board.
Sticky sleeves or sticky board? Well,
I think the answer is obvious because if it's sticky sleeves you just re-sleeve
I thought you meant sleeves on your jumper
I can't say just up so basically, you have to play with the monkey sleeve. And it's got in the in the sleeve as well.

I would say I would say the board

keyboard because it could be an idea of sticky sleeves on your fingers. The finger clicking on it? That would just

No one wants to stick your fingers and hope
it's the keyboard. Yeah,

Right? Yeah, you'll be you'll be a lawyer. That's fine.
Yeah, well possibly go wrong.
Pretty much. It's pretty much just like just one. So that's the rules.
So who's guessing first?
He's gonna guess first I think we'll go with Becky. Oh,
Becky, Becky.
So the little twist is it's just one bit of board games.
So if you want to play at home the game that we're gonna guess is Troyes or Troyes
Yeah, so we've got our game. We're gonna write down some clues. We get to each because we're nice to each other. Just too, isn't it? Yeah. Cool. I've got mine. Yeah, there we go.
We've got the guesses. Yeah. Okay, so we're gonna show our guesses between ourselves. Obviously Becky can't see. Okay, I think we're good. I think we're good. We're back to goal six.
That was more luck than judgement.
No double ups. Okay, so I get six clues. All right.
Yeah. Well done. Are we done? Well,
I think I might have guessed it just from Rob's. So we've got settlement. France, France, if you're from somewhere that isn't the Midlands mispronounced Oh, oh, I might have changed my mind now. But yet, so settlement to France mispronounced baguette influence and marauders or JP's clues have absolutely you know solidified it for me. Oh,
let's get back to my great great JP. Yeah, no, please

I'm gonna tell you what I first thought with your clothes. I thought it was compass on very much realised that it was not. It is of course. Troyes are really really great dice

That's t try acid.
Three, this is a place called trois, but it's spelt Troy years. Okay?
Again to gain to to boom, two. I'm just going to use the same. So
the main player now is going to be roped. With his vast knowledge of games, we've picking out 500 And he's going to get one. I'm pretty sure only four six clues in every
game so that should be easy.
So for those playing at home, the game we are describing is Star Wars rebellion
Okay, so we have our game. This is all done at random. Okay, that's good. I guess his own is that's quite hard. For our listeners. Rob is literally got his hands over his eyes. He's either crying or
I don't trust me. I don't trust myself not to cheat. Fair enough.
Don't walk. Cool. There we go.
Alright, so we're comparing so. Okay, that's good. So we're good.
What does your say that? Okay, well, we can't
obviously say because while we're here at a separate one, I
won't hear it. I promise I won't listen. Right we can get
so fine. There we
go. So we have, so we got to read the man. Lucas. Yeah, terrorist. Yep.
Moth hidden spacey hans.
No worse. Hmm.
I think it might wasn't sure if it's a

Spacey hidden. There is a game that comes to mind.
What is the game? Rebellion?

Why not? Becky, what have you got coming up?
Nothing in my life generally other than games. I'm gonna go wrong with that. Yeah, I'm gonna go for a game of Unfathomable that we booked in
like I said, I'm not gonna be playing
really good game really fun. Battlestar Galactica reskin everyone knows about it probably by now. We did an episode on it. We did an episode on it. So yeah, there we go. Listen back to the previous episodes.
Enjoy should be good for now.

He remembers for six months

the cat gets anyway.
I get hungry.
Yeah, rather than trying to look evil. You just got a cat clawing at you Yeah. How about you Rob?
Got nothing planned next week gaming wise, but the week after we've got our next episode of frost Haven coming us. So yeah, really enjoying it? I think I got a little bit sort of burnt out with the first one. Like after a while. We'll have Gloomhaven. Yeah, so really enjoying Frosthaven? Good.
How you find like, how do you find is different? Technically,
the characters are a little bit more set up in in kind of a more specific way. Okay. Where this the the skill is kind of synergize a lot better, especially the character that I'm playing anyway. And yeah, they we had quite an interesting Oh, you plan?
The Drifter? Yes. He's awesome.
So he's insane. Yeah, so
I'm paying what feels like quite a powerful character. And kind of suits him with that tank, sort of roll better.
And yeah, how to build it how you want it's quite versatile, you
can you can but a lot of the skills that I've been using kind of loading up for a tank really, and really enjoying it really, really enjoying it.
I feel like some of the characters are a bit more clear cut as to also the way that they've done the cards your combos a bit more easily read. And everything's a bit more clear cut in that sense.
Yeah, but we will carry we had a really interesting, really interesting scenario where for bout an hour and a half, we didn't think we were going to do it. Okay, I really struggling to
do it. And then somehow we managed to do it and it was a really good feeling that we you know, we needed we nearly been to off an hour and a half thing because there's no point in carrying on and then we got to the end and we managed to have managed to do it and it's such a good feeling when obviously you know thinking Oh god this is tough we're never going to do it and then you do it so yeah had a really good experience with the last one so quite looking forward to playing it again.

My experience so just had a flashback of Gloomhaven of just doing those scenarios where you don't quite make it and then you go she would just say we've won I don't want to do it for three hours Yeah, she would just sit Yeah, we wouldn't do it yeah because I think I thought I've got to set this up again and do the same song
and that was really good.
Cool. Nice. And JP What do you got coming on?
Man? You got the same one.
But no, no, I was waiting for it. Okay,

Yeah. Before everybody else. Yeah.
JP, so my one he stole it from the you know, stole my thunder. No, I'm not saying it's fine. I'm gonna talk about something else. I'm looking forward to watching The Last of Us I've been storing it up until it's finished. So now I can binge it because as of the last episode is just came out. I thought Damn good. Yeah. And I've been looking forward to it. Pedro Pascal is pretty much gold dust at the moment. There's there was that sketch they did that he's in the new Mario film.
You've seen that on Mario Kart? was great. It's like done like a dystopian future where it's all realistic. But as Mary Sally and I live sketches work is fine. But yeah, I'm looking forward to watching that and having a binge of that so good.
So unbelievably, I've never played the game but obviously I know a lot about
weirdly, everyone keeps saying it follows the game you really closely, which
a lot from what from what I understand it does. I think it's cut out like a lot of the action.
Yeah, they wanted to make Joel feel like a real human being. Yeah, because then the game is actually
killing 1000s of
animals and they wanted to make him you know, like an actual 40 year old man rather than
but it's so good. It's so unbelievably I don't do horror genre at all. Like the Walking Dead is too much for me. I don't do that last of us is just been fantastic.
Stranger Things is too much for me. Too jumpy.
