Well, loki season 1 felt like the kind of doctor hu we were missing at the time of loki season 1, and this episode feels to me like the most Doctor Hu of this series to date. Yeah. I think it's interesting because Ruby kinda takes a little bit of a backseat in this story. So it's Yeah. It's a bit kind a companion light. Well, it's it feels like rogue acts as the

companion. Yeah. Which isn't abnormal. In terms of who actually we normally can kind of do get companions of the week, and they sometimes do replace a lot of the companion stuff you know the 1 it doesn't remind me of obviously girl in the fireplace because again, that's where Billy Piper stuck on the space. Ship and docs going through and said their stories are quite separate, and then you get the companion of the week that's been the love interest and the That. That's so true.

Yeah. Good. Reference. I hadn't thought of that. But I think in the same way that Norman Pom is she's very charming and there's an instant connection it got ignoring the meet as a child bit. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He's with. Yeah. There's an instant connection between her and dock in the same way you get between rogue and duck here. Yeah. Yeah. That's so true. I had also made that parallel in my mind, but for

me, it had been. Solely superficial, like the historical setting, the aesthetics oled, but you're so right that that parallel goes way way deeper. Do you think that this works better or works differently? Well, I think that's a great episode. It is a fantastic episode. I love that episode. And I think the way that I... This 1

ent me slightly more. Is that in Mother Pom, she's a historical figure that he can't really mess with her timeline too much because it's, you know, fixed points and whatnot, so he can't Yeah, like, pluck her out and go traveling with her, whereas rogue is also presumably from the future and has his technology and has spaceship and, and so there's a potential future for them, which the... We then don't get to see.

But I don't know. I'm... I really, really, really, really hope like, Rogue last line of confined me is so just... Yeah. Oh, I'm so desperate for that to have it. I don't will, But there's this do don't think so. Now do. Because he leaves his doc has Oh, exactly. And in my mind that ring is some kind of homing beacon or something along those lines, like, he'll be tapping that ring or twisting it with his fingers or something and then all of was done the activists

or something and it's oh my goodness. Wait that I this can take me to a, you know, that kind of thing. I desperately desperately desperately want that to be true. I really hope choose too. Do you think that this would have been this episode would have been better suited earlier on in the series. So that the series could end with either dock getting a a link from the ring so that we know that there's hope or the 2 of them actually re writing towards the end Yeah. This is exactly what I

said, when Maria, I briefly discussed it. Try not too much stuff between us I opened brains. But, yeah. It's this is the faith I don't have in this being wrapped up because it comes just before the finale, which I won't go into what happens in the Finale, but we have watched it, will you know? And the comparison that you aid was that he would be this season's river, which whichever was so cool yeah and he feels like they sold have a connection that Dock and River had where they challenge each other and there's this line about them, like, arguing through the stars or something, and I feel like...

Fine know. But, yeah, That's the kind of relationship that they built up. So quickly in what episode in, like, in in the past 5 minutes. You knew exactly what the relationship would be like. Yes. You're right. We're not reviewing that now, but that's a 2 part so we get to spend 2 episodes double the run runtime with at least a couple of characters. They're the the overlap and and we get to build bigger arcs and bigger relationships. But this seems like the relationship that needed a double episode. This is the 1 that I want to spend more time on because I'm... Yeah. I don't know exactly where I stand on the whole like Duck is super duper. I'm totally getting around to it and their

fluctuations were absolutely fucking amazing. I mean, the energy on screen is incredible, but it it is likely if feels a little bit rushed to me that within the space of, like, 20 minutes, they have literally fallen in love, and they are that they've already decided that they're gonna spend the the foreseeable future together traveling around and having a relationship and going steady, and you just played each other. You you don't you don't go each other. I think I...

You know what I mean? Is... I took it as another level in the for, really. It's like... They were challenging each other to kind of out undo each other with their flirt flotation banter. And then the moment, the most dramatic moment is when they're pretending to make a scandal. And I I have a question in my notes actually. Because when Rogue gets down on 1 knee and presents a ring to

dock. Yeah. Genuinely seems a bit flustered, but this is all than the umbrella of dock is acting and trying to make a scene. Yeah. So it's genuine thing or is he still acting? And I think that's intentionally left open. But I think you're right. That's 1 of my introductory questions. I think not necessarily, are they hinting at something between

Dock and Rogue. I think it's something that I think they're hinting at maybe post river, Doc doesn't want to get married again or he you can't even really conceive of that notion anymore and therefore, It's too painful for him to be proposed to. No I don't know. Yeah. Something along those lines. I think I took it the same though

Partly they're playing and partly he needed to do a dramatic storm out, but there's a little pause where he's sort of face drops, and you see there is a little bit of, like, real heartbreak there. And, yeah, I picked him thinking back to river and thinking back to... Oh, I've I was there presumably. We didn't see... I don't think we saw in proposed, but we know they got married. So at some point, yeah, He was on it, Isn't given the ring to river, and it just

I think that's pitch higher than it they're really thinking. It's just they are, like, having immediate attraction, but they're not gonna jump into a relationship. It's just... Yeah. It's just like a powerful first. Introduction. Yeah. It could've led somewhere. It might lead somewhere. We Don't need. They have chemistry. But, yeah. I don't think they're planning a future. They're not planning to spend the rest of eternity to get. It's all at this point hyper perfectly. Oh, you're

right. That that sort of ground and brings it back onto to earth, and it's like, oh, hang on. No. This... I don't know this brand on money giving me a ring. But don't you think what they are actually? But don't you think sort of cutting in, but don't you think that they are considering a future Together, when they're talking about... Could we have some kind of partnership? But I don't think I don't think they're planning a future in the way that you said it's moving too fast and they're in love by the end of 20 minutes. I think they're just... They're planning a second date basically. Like, look, I can show you the stars, come travel with me in my spaceship, and we'll see where it goes. I don't think you're fully committing at this point. Because every time he meets a new companion or brings

a new companion on board. It's not like you are now on this hardest. The rest of your life. You're only gonna interact with me, you know, whatever. It's, yeah know, come on some adventures with me. And I think yeah. That's totally exception. They always for get to go home in between. Maybe in in the classics there there are some exceptions there. I think in new area. It's always... Okay. So when he refers to Ruby in this episode, he talks about her as his best friend. Like, oh, you mean, Ruby, she's my

best friend. You mean my best friend? Well, is she... You've also mean, relatively speaking, known, you know a short time, and you've had lots of other people that you've traveled with and that you've shared experiences with? Is she your best friend? Or are you only capable of dealing in extremes when you speak with, well, in your relationship with other people, so Ruby is currently your companion. A aka, She's your best friend. This person is someone you're flirting with and want to

go on a second date with. A aka he's in love with with Rogue. And rogue is in love with him. Is there something to be said about that hyper? I think he just very much lives in the moment, so that when he says Ruby is my best friend? I think he'd... Means it. I think he believes it, but it's just very much. She's my current traveling companion. We do everything to together that. She's my current friend. It doesn't mean that relationships. Stronger than the relationship with previous companions.

It's just that as he mentioned, he's lost everybody else, Yeah. Which isn't is exactly true, like, not everybody ends up dying, but they don't travel with them anymore. So yeah. I think Rub sees current best friend, which isn't that which shouldn't diminish that relationship. It just means there's been many best friends along the course of his life. But totally me with you. The second you said he's... He just lives in the. Like, wait. How could I have been so wrong? That's your love.

Late doctor. That's an amazing. The the only thing I wonder as well is I can't really think if they use the term companion in show often or at all? Is that we as the what as a doctor who call these people companions. Mh And they're always struggling to find a term for them in show. And Well mcdonald's units. Don't don't unit peeps refer to them as companions, not all the time but often. I feel like Ke goes will say, oh, Yeah, They were his companions or traveling companions or

something like that. Possibly. I sure we've had it where a companion like picks up on that as well and they're like, companion. Is that? Yeah. I... Well, I mean you said it like that. I mean it imagine Donna but... Yeah. Yeah. You're so right. I wonder if companion is wielded as a term in the Universe the same way that's... 1 of those doctor who jokes is wielded in the universe. Gary now is doctor doctor who, and sometimes they will refer to people as companions.

But I feel pretty certain that units the key specifically has used our as well. I think you might be right, but I think that also isn't a... Little bit telling because it's a third party again, describing the doctor and relationship with these traveling companions. And I,

I wonder if when you write that dialogue as well when you're trying to say, you know, these 2 people are having attraction between each other and they're flirting with each other for him to refer to Ruby as a companion, Does it stand out like A I sore thumb if you don't address it? It's not like a romantic companion. Yeah a traveling companion. I don't know. Oh my god you're totally right yours. So right. If I was at the club with, like, my guy, best friend, and Cute boy came over to

towards me. I'd be like, oh, no. He's my best friend. Don't worry about it. Like, it's a way of being, like, I've not romantically interested in this woman that I was dancing with. And they're all in in massive quotes, Gall faces, and not 1 of those faces is a bird, I think is essentially what would take away from that. And that that's when

he says, I'm not a shoulder. I am the last of the Time Lords. I am a time lord of gall, and just seeing all those faces and hearing him say that I think resonates with rogue to the point where. Well, I just wanna wanna finish this line of thinking because I also don't fully buy that as satisfactory explanation in show because I think if there

know. But it's like this, I think river, they kinda got it right. They've they've started They know how to pitch the dock against someone who's is at the same level, and I don't know. how well they pulled out. I think that's exactly what Was trying to say was like, I I really dislike when they try and do any romantic stuff with the doc and the companion because it always feels wrong, and the companions...
