Hello and welcome to Who Are You? We're a reasonably well done sci-fi watch cast by a couple of former strangers, now friends who are watching 2000 fours Battlestar Galactica. I'm Laura
I'm ja Fair.
and Jafer. You told me you need to talk about space real bad.
got it. I'm real excited. There was a news article published yesterday.
Uhhuh.
Uh, So it's not Today News. It's yesterday News by the University of Cambridge who are one of the universities doing work with the James Webb Space Telescope.
Oh, I've heard of this thing. Yes.
This is where we've gotten a lot of our exciting space news from in the last couple of years, is the James
Yeah, big, big news. The James Webb. Yeah.
Um, and so what the James Webb has discovered along with our people processing data and doing research over at the University of Cambridge, is they have found traces of dimethyl sulfide and do dimethyl di sulfide in the atmosphere of exoplanet K two 18 B, which is one of those super earth's
Okay. Tell me about Super Earth.
s super earth's. This is a planet that is, um, is it like five times the size of earth? Um, and it, it is, it is in a habitable zone for its planet size. It has water, it has continents. It is an earth-like planet that is very big.
Hmm. Can we go.
It is quite far away in terms of anything that we can possibly imagine or rationalize with our human brains.
Ah, nuts.
but maybe eventually. But what's cool is those two chemicals I'm listed off, DMS and DMDS are only known to be found as a byproduct of microbial life and marine photoplankton. They are not naturally occurring chemicals without life. So,
So what I'm hearing out of this is that we could have space whales, Seems like whales eat that
well, yeah, there could be space whales. Um, this is like, so the statistical probability here. Is they, they've reached the three Sigma level of statistical significance, which is something that as statisticians we know about,
Mm-hmm.
uh, You know, the three sigma ranges. Whenever you're talking about a Sigma range, we're talking about standard deviations listener, that's another math term that you might be more familiar with. Um, if you are more familiar with math as opposed to statistics as discipline in general. so that means that there is a uh, to reach this threshold, there is a 6e-05% chance that they occurred randomly and without life, but they're still doing or okay. Right now we're at Three Sigma, which is 0.3.
They need to do more observations to make sure they get to Five Sigma, which is effectively. Evidence at that point. so there uh, there's gonna be more follow ups and results. This is the first thing published, so it's not definitive yet, but it is very fucking cool. Um,
is really cool.
so there might be beyond base, like single cell organism life on this planet,
Yeah.
um, which would also factor into some great filter questions and stuff. Um, which is actually something that Battlestar Galactica really fucking Dodges. this is like a storyline slash like, producing requirement almost to keep the budget and set design down they purposefully, and also to not be Star Trek purposefully made the galaxy pretty barren on the path that Galactica is taking. So that way they're
doing a lot of planets. We've had two planets
planets in two seasons. Right? Like we don't do a lot on planets. And that's very much by design.
and I think pretty accurate for what we're going through, right? Like
Yeah. I mean,
it's taken us humans this long to find a planet that we're like, ah, this one maybe really has habitable stuff on it.
Yeah.
Whereas Star Trek, every week we found a new habitable planet.
I mean the
And sometimes if we wanna spice it up, it's barely habitable.
Yeah, I mean, to be fair to Star Trek there the speeds at which those ships move is so much faster than what we can like reasonably observe as a society right now, let alone get worry about getting to. So they're casting a much wider net than we can.
Mm-hmm.
and also they only go to those planets for the most part. They just ignore the other ones,
Yeah.
except when they,
you're the Cerritos that has to do some scanning science,
yeah, I mean, Voyager goes to that uninhabited planet to like get some raw materials. There's a couple stories like that. but for the most part they only really care about interacting with other cultures. That's star fleet's thing. So I wonder if there was a Regi show, if they would just be like going to planet scanning for Latinum and then leaving like, oh, there's a culture there. Can we sell them shit? No. They're more advanced or they don't have anything worth selling us. Okay. Peace.
Nevermind. Moving on.
yeah. Yeah. Well that is very cool. Science news. I'm so glad that we found something out there. Sometimes this week in, in economics, we were joking about the, um, the counterfactual earth. You probably made jokes about this in your economics classes where like, you know, you could have two different earths, one where you give the treatment and the other is the control earth, where the thing is happening. and uh, I wanna go live on the counterfactual earth.
Now I wanna be on control Earth Please. Pretty please.
Mm. Yeah. That's real. Simulation theory vibes, which I fucking hate, hate simulation theory. It's so dumb, like listener if, if you're a big subscriber of simulation theory, I'm not here to shit in your serial. I am here to ask, does it fucking matter? That's all. If it's true, there's no escaping it and everything is exactly as it was. 30 seconds before you flat that thought, does it fucking matter? That's all.
It just seems like it's such a pointless mental exercise because it has absolutely no resolution except anxiety, and it's just something I refuse to let into my brain.
Hmm.
Anyways, we got an episode of Battlestar Galactica to talk about. I
sure do.
will rant about simulation theory for forever. And by that I mean I won't because it's fucking dumb. So let's get on, let's get on this episode.
Yes.
I just I hurt somebody's feelings that I probably like. I'm sorry. We got season two episode four resistance.
yes, this is a very special week to be watching this episode.
Yeah.
This is uh, as of recording, listener. It is Easter weekend in the year of our Lord 2025 and Jair.
It was a good Friday.
He has risen.
Mm-hmm. Yes.
Yes. Daddy Adama on the fourth episode has risen indeed.
mm mm. Put up them spiritual antenna. All right. Yeah.
Arms up everyone.
He has risen, man. So it's WrestleMania this weekend and I don't ever remember WrestleMania being on Easter, but if they don't do a, like undertaker dead man walking, he has risen bit at WrestleMania on Easter. I am disappointed in the wwe. I'm just gonna throw that out the right now.
It's, it's time guys. Yeah.
opportunity, right?
But we don't, we aren't gonna get there till the end of the episode, but it is time. Finally. It only took
Three episodes.
episodes after
That's the number, right? Three episode, three days? Yeah. Hmm.
I We can make it three. We can jigg it around.
it was four, wasn't it? Yeah, it's, oh, okay. I don't
I, I think somebody had that in their mind when they're writing this, like Yeah, definitely. Especially 'cause he is like wearing a robe comes out anyway, let's not
it's the, the, the shroud of Adama. It's, it was a whole thing. It was crazy. All right,
I was just about to say that we're opening on Teel, sweating a whole bunch.
Sweatiest Tiral,
So
he's so sweaty. He is key in peel, sweat, sketch, sweaty here.
So I don't know how many people I accused of being silenced throughout this whole episode, but it started with Mr. Ciel.
I got a list from Aaron, like
Oh, you did? He, he told you how many people I accused of being silenced.
he net me told me he posted in Spoiler town.
Oh my God. He told everyone.
He didn't tell everyone. He told everyone he wants spoilers because we're laughing about it. Um, but in over in Spoiler town. I won't say why we're laughing, but we are laughing
Well, so here's why I accused Mr. Thiel here at the beginning of being a silent, so sweaty bin was so fucking sweaty and he is so fucking sweaty.
he is a sweaty Mahalo.
Yeah. Yeah. And then also, so we have sweat. Ty is grilling him about the whole boomer thing. 'cause we forgot that that went down and two year old's been gone and now he's back.
Yeah.
So he says he has no idea she was asylum.
Yeah.
He wants his fifth amendment rights to remain silent.
Ty doesn't give a fuck. He knows that Tyro is a damn dirty double S Did I ever tell that story? Did I tell that story to you? Have I told that story on Pod? Okay, so this is the Battlestar Galactica board game, right?
Oh, there's a
There's a board game. I will, I will bring it.
Is it a spoiler free board game?
Um, by the time we get there, I think we'll be okay. Like, if, if I bring it in August, I think it'll be okay. Um,
Okay. Make sure to review it carefully.
yeah, yeah, we will. so there's a, it's a board game and it starts off like everyone's on Galactica, everyone's doing their stuff right? And one player secretly is a cy. Everyone draws cards. It tells them if they're human or cylon, right? And when the Cy reveals themselves, they stop being on the ship and start doing sy stuff out, off the ship to fuck with the players. But you do cy, like you fuck with the players on the ship before you're revealed as a Cy.
And then halfway through the game, everyone draws a second card except for revealed Cylons. We are playing this game at a gathering of LARP nerds. and Ben is with me playing this game too. He can, he, he, so we were there and our buddy Eddie in the first half drew the cylon card. Right. But he didn't reveal himself and so e everyone got their second card and he pulled the second cylon card. So he was the only one at the table we had were expecting two.
Statistically there should have been two, but Eddie was so we were accusing him of being a damn dirty cylon. That's whenever someone, we were playing this game, everyone Oh, you're a damn dirty s every time. Right. It's, you don't, you don't just accuse someone of being a cylon. They are a damn dirty cylon.
Yeah,
Yeah, And so he was the damn dirty double cylon when he got revealed because he had both the cylon cards.
Wow.
Yeah.
That's fun. I. Yeah. So that's where I'm at with Tyrell At the beginning of this episode, at least Tyrell tries to list out his pedigree and tell you all about himself and his parents. Like his parents were spiritual people. Yes. Like one of 'em is a priest or an oracle and
he served on four battle stars. Not just the Galactica, but also the Atlan, the Columbia, and the Pegasus.
Yeah. So Ty does not care and smacks the shit out of him. And we end the scene on brief blood drip onto the deck.
So dramatic.
Yes. Also where I was saying silent, silent, silent. So Ty leaves and uh, is walking down the hallway and throws his flask,
Oh
he immediately retrieves it. He's not going to uh,
Not ready to give
And the then uh, the guards go put Tyrell with boomer, like in the same cell. That doesn't seem very smart to me. Like just in general, you probably should isolate prisoners as much as possible. Right.
if you believe them to be colluding against your interests. Like giving.
And, and we know these silences are super strong and if you think they're both actually silence the strong, beefy boys, like don't put them in together where they could possibly rip up your shit.
Yeah.
Not smart. Oh, well.
this, we cut over to caper yellow. We see a bunch of other humans who have Starbuck and Hilo in their sights to theme survivor, count down one,
down one.
crash down. It's just crash down. This somehow hurts more than when it drops by big numbers. And that is a hundred percent on purpose.
Right. Because it's like that one you knew you met that one? Yeah. Wow. I should start writing the numbers down in my notes. I'm usually like frantically scribbling a sentence from before theme, during theme. So I haven't been watching the numbers. I'm gonna
do you pause often when you do your notes?
Oh, so much.
Yeah, me too. Okay. Yeah. I just always paused right down the number. Yeah.
Yeah. I'll have to make sure I'm doing that too. so back from theme, we're still on Caprica yellow.
Yeah.
We've got star bes and Hilo kind of arguing a little bit about directions
Yeah.
until somebody snaps a twig.
Mm-hmm. Yeah. They hear some noise and they quickly assess the situation here, and they don't see any reflections or chrome, so they know that they're fighting humanoid sirens
Mm-hmm.
and they know how many at everything very quickly.
love how we get a little bit of dialogue from both sides. I think from the resistance humans and the human humans, the galactic of humans that they're knowing both sides that this is humanoid sirens and we've gotta do this and, you know, whatever. Very smart on both sides.
Anders is like. Very quickly calling out. It's all like, oh, that's weird. You usually don't see humanoid Cys without, you know, Chrome escorts.
Mm-hmm.
Like, that's weird, huh?
they've seen a lot of them apparently.
Yeah.
I like how I wrote they in my notes, so I don't remember which side it was that's talking about it, but they're talking about the human variety of silent isn't as tough as the battle bots.
says that, yeah, they're grateful that they don't have to waste explosive rounds. They
Yes. So Helos figured that out, or Star bes figured it out. I don't know.
Well, I mean, star Starbuck also notes that they bleed, which is enjoyable.
And we just had Chief Tero bleeding in the earlier scene. That's all I'm saying.
Okay. Yeah. I mean, yeah, anyone who bleeds is clearly a asylum. This is a good bet. Laura, you should follow this one through.
Yeah, no, I am like the height of paranoia at this episode. I do not know why it has just hit real hard.
Like, are you just gonna watch like three ahead When I'm on vacation?
I mean, maybe I, I don't know if I'll have time 'cause it's final season, but the, the spirit is willing, the actual body may not do it.
Uh, We cut over to Callie after this, who goes to Gaia to help get the chief free six PT points out that the term toaster is racist.
Yeah. She doesn't let this go in the background the whole
No, she's pretty upset about it. And she's just like, well, maybe you would help her if she wasn't a racist. Or are you gonna tell her to not use that racist epitaph? Come on guys, it's so good because a hundred percent this is what you know. I, I don't know. I feel like this is pretty funny but also very accurate because he deserves to be called out for the bullshit. But also this is something that the military is like fucking famous for constantly.
Anytime there is a war, we have some dehumanized char to refer to them that is totally fucking racist every single time.
Yep, yep. And uh, GAAS is such a shithead. He's not gonna actually call it out or ask her to reframe. He's just gonna try to like placate six PT quietly through his language, but he's not actually going to do anything that could possibly make another human being upset with him.
Yeah. One of the best turns of like the guy is double talk here is when, kelly asks if he, you know, you, you owe it to the chief to help. And six PT at the same time is all like, your child is half toaster. How do you feel about that? And he manages to answer both questions with the, like, I, you know, I'm overjoyed about this thing. Like, I would do something if I could. It, like, it answers just enough of both questions to like, not question it at all, but it's clearly aimed at both.
It's so good.
it is really good. But uh, Callie uses this opportunity to pull the blackmail card.
Yeah.
She'll uh, tell the truth about what happened to crash down. If Gais does not try to help Chief Tyrell.
Yep. Gaius tells Ty that the revelation of Boomer as a silent has allowed him to refine the CY detector, so there won't be any more errors.
What an ass. Oh man. I, I really did kind of enjoy Ty, like being pissed off about the cylon detector.
should be. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. I'm glad, I'm glad that we got some justice for the Cylon detector.
He's really rude to
yeah. T Ty also uses this opportunity to remind him like, this is martial law vice president, you don't exist anymore. You better go back to being worth something as a scientist,
yeah. You thought you were gonna pull that VP card outta your pocket, but that is actually a monopoly. Straight to jail card.
Ty does give him one more chance. For some reason, I guess Gaas has blinded him with science, um, and he says, okay, definitive answer on teal as six PT is also like in the background stoking rebellion in Gaas.
Yeah. After this we hear that some ships are refusing to resupply Galactica until democracy is
Mm-hmm. Specifically the Tillium mining ship, which we know was already inclined to rebellion. Oh yeah, the refiner. Sorry.
Yeah. This is gonna be a problem real quick.
Yeah.
We get shit from the pilots for missing card night as he heads to the Bri where D follows and walks with him, giving him some news of the goings on in the fleet, and also the current status of his father.
She's being really kind to update him on how Daddy Adama's doing, and also kind of, you know, mentions the rebellion stuff and, oh, ties in the bottle
Yeah. Just drinking away.
I wanna use this opportunity to fair, to call your attention to the name I have named myself for this session.
Yeah. Ellen Tai. So,
Theorized silo number two. I have given up just hoping that Ellen and Tai is a Cy, so she'll get come up and someday to believing Ellen. And Tai is a silo. I hate her.
okay.
I mean, okay. She can still be just a really shitty human. Really shitty humans exist. Yeah.
I mean, so. Watching the show at this timeframe, right? We're supposed to believe that Ellen is a silent, right? Like that was like, she shows up outta nowhere. She has a really flimsy story. We know we can't trust Gais. Like,
And she really sucks.
clearly is not having the best interest of she humanity in general,
No, not even Saul. It is her own best interest at all times.
a hundred percent. And so looking at all this, it's very easy to go, well, obviously she's a fucking s right?
Yeah. Yeah.
But at the time, my concern with that was all like, but she's been with Saul a long time. Like we saw her in flashbacks with, with Adama, you know, like 20 years ago or whatever.
I'm still not convinced that was her, but go ahead.
Okay, fair enough. No, no. I mean, it's supposed to be a little ambiguous, but I, I
they're, they're not making it like, yes, she's really here, right?
Yeah, and so that was always like the disqualifying factor to me was all like, well now she's been married to Saul for too long. They talk about how long they've been married, like
yeah.
she can't be a silent. So I think it's interesting that you keep ride or die for that because it is a character who, in my initial watch through, I had wholeheartedly dismissed of Eddie. So cylon capability because of this.
Yeah. No, I, so I, I. Do think she could just be a really shitty human? I think if she's just a really shitty human, then it's less likely that she's gonna get the comeuppance that I want.
Fair.
And God, I want that comeuppance. I don't like Ellen Ty every time she shows up the first time in the episode, I'm pretty sure I write Ellen Tai is the worst and yum. Yum. Ryan, I totally understand why you love Ellen Tai. I do. She is a chaos maniac and she is an extremely well-written character and I can't stop painting her. I'm sorry. So time rolls over his martial law problems with Ellen
Yeah.
in their
uh, urges him to not be diplomatic and to go for the fist
Yeah. She's just so manipulative of this man. She's figured out exactly how he runs and she's gonna push all the buttons.
Mm-hmm. Caprica yellow turns into a Mexican standoff, which I learned actually comes from the American Mexican War and the type of ambushes that the Mexicans would conduct against the Americans.
Hmm. Interesting. I was just gonna call it a capric standoff 'cause it is very funny the way this thing unfolds.
Yeah. We learned that these are the Caprica Buccaneers and this scene was written by someone who one day hopes that their obscure baseball statistic trivia will save their life. That is the only possible explanation for this.
Yeah. This is some game called Pyramid, which I guess we're probably gonna learn more about throughout the
Uh, this is what they play later in the show.
Yeah.
So the, the game that was in the Triangle Court that has a bunch of triangles all over it,
But I was imagining they're probably gonna wind up doing this a few more times maybe.
there's a little bit of pyramid in the show.
Yeah. But they like quiz each other about the statistics until they're all satisfied and uh, put everyone finally puts their guns down.
Yep. After this Ventor gets Rosalyn Herm meds and some Candy Lee passes word of the unrest as Ty orders Marines over to every ship refusing to resupply.
But tell me if I read this correctly, it sounds like there aren't enough marines.
There are not, gada says this, and the answer is to put pilots and deck officers in charge of Marines to free up more Marines to send out.
This is a bad idea. Everything about this is bad. And Rosalyn says as she's eating her licorice, which Black licorice? Yes. No. On this podcast. Oh, I like black
Okay. You can have it all. I like, yeah. Black licorice. Oh, it's the, it's the Anis. I don't like Anis. I always say I don't like poppy seed. Jagermeister Gold, Schlager. Um, a handful of sausages. Anything
Oh, I don't like it in sausage.
Yeah. This whole flavor profile is a no from me dog, so.
Black licorice, like German, black licorice. I don't remember where I got it. We had a German exchange student at our school for a while that maybe brought some, or maybe I went to the German grocery in Tulsa, but I got some real German black licorice. And I remember trying it and being like, Ugh, this sucks. I hate it. I'll just have another one
Mm-hmm.
and maybe another one. And yeah, a few more. And then I was like, oh, I think I like this. So that's how I learned to love the licorice.
I love the, like the Australian soft licorice,
Yes, we like that too.
the strawberry. Oh yeah. Gimme that. That's good shit.
I like the black one too. It's good. I'll take 'em all.
You know,
Thanks Ryan.
I don't think I've had a black licorice in a very, very long time because every time I do, I find it revolting. Maybe it's time to try again. I try to do that with my palate when there's some things I know that I avoid actively, that I really just don't enjoy. Every once in a while I'll make a go of it just to be all like, okay, still hate it.
Hmm. Maybe try the Australian
myself. Okay, well that would require buying a bag, which I don't want to do.
Or you can just, do you guys have sprouts up there? Just go to Sprouts and get some out of the bin. That's not weird at all.
Sample, not for me. Buy something else.
Yes, yes. Okay. So we send in the Marines and a riot breaks out on the Gideon.
Yeah. The coffee ship, not the coffee ship.
Anything but the coffee ship.
Yeah.
you think they got in there.
I mean, if the ship's full of it and they're roasting it all the time, it's the best smelling ship in the fleet hands down.
Can you imagine your clothes smelling like that all the time though?
Oh yeah. That'd be great.
Oh man. I don't know. I want my clothes to not smell like anything. That's what I need.
Ugh. Like, I mean. I don't know, maybe it's just like, listener. You can't see the side profile I'm giving right now. But the Chanas Thena has some vacuum behind it. I have a, a very strong and sensitive sense of smell, much more so than anyone else that I have ever met. it was a game in college. We would be walking by the cafeteria and I could just from outside of the building tell you what the specials were that day. I, I smell when people are sick, like not just obviously sick.
I can tell when people are sick usually before they know.
Uhhuh,
yeah, no, it's, it's real strong, the sense of
have you heard, speaking of people who can smell illness of, there's a, there's a lady that can smell Parkinson's
Oh,
on people and they're trying to figure out that so they can, you know, work on better detection.
Yeah.
But yeah, she, she like thought her husband smelled really bad for a while and then. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's and they went to a Parkinson's like, support group, and she was like, holy crap, everyone in here smells bad. And uh, that's, that was how like she connected with doctors and was like, I can smell this for some reason.
Huh?
So interesting.
I don't think, I mean, mine's usually just like, I dunno, people are a little, it's a distinct smell when
Yeah, like when you get a fever, you're a little sweaty and
Yeah. It's, I dunno, it's hard to describe. I would not attribute it to a specific disease ever though. That's so interesting to me.
Yeah.
Anyways. Okay. We're on the coffee ship. We got back professionals. Um,
Yeah,
I would not be upset about this at all. Like this summer I worked at the brewery and I would just smell like wart all the time. Ugh. Oh, so good. Just whenever I would help out there, I'd come through and it's just on your clothes for days. Whenever I brew, it's just on me for a couple days. I love that I was smelling like campfire. I'll smell campfire on myself for like a week, usually.
yeah.
Love that. Anyways for Lee and Rosalyn.
we didn't. We didn't talk about how many people got
Oh, oh yeah. They killed four civilians. We should probably not gloss over that casually.
Yeah, let's.
It's martial law. It's serious business. Yeah. So, uh, when this riot breaks out, someone's throwing coffee, one of the Marines fires a shot and they end up killing four people on the coffee roasting ship.
I, I believe there were more bullets flying around and we have some injured people that I don't know if they get taken to Galactica or whatever, but there's more than just four people shot, I'm sure.
Yeah. Four. Four is the number that coddle gives
Yes, four. Four is definitely the, what is it? Fatalities. Um, but yeah, in sick Bay, Ty wonders how this could have happened. How did four people die? And coddles just like, 'cause you're a dipshit.
Yep.
I, I really do like doc Coddle. I see where it comes from now. I was like, Yeah. give it to him.
Coddles so good. For Lee and Roslyn, this is the last straw they have to escape to rally against this tyranny, man. You ever think anyone asked Roslyn about her emails
Probably Tom Zerek. Totally, totally. Tom Zerek. Uh, Yeah, but she, she has a great point. She says, you know, the Cys are doing this. They're tearing us apart so that they can better pick us off.
Yeah.
Like if they can break us up, we're easier to
Oh, for
rid of. And she, she only sees the way out of getting out of here to try to keep things together.
Mm-hmm.
And I, I mean, I kind of identify with that and get it, but also like it is just going to Enrage, Galactica, and Galactica is the. Ship with all the guns.
It is the ship with the guns.
So Lee tells her that he can get them to a hangar but they need to get off the ship and hide. And Rosalyn believes she can get them off the ship. So each of them thinks they can do a piece of this, and Lee thinks he knows where to hide. And I clocked this instantly. I knew exactly where we were going.
Oh yeah, yeah, for sure. uh, after this tying Ellen fight, fuck
Uh,
The,
well first we have a bit of fair bit of whining. Let's not gloss over that.
well they fight and then they fuck.
you. Well, they tie wines and then they fight. He blames her for his bad decisions, which yes, she was manipulating you, but yes, you fell for it. You dumb fuck, like.
He is the worst. She's the worst. I hate all this
Yep. Yep. And you know why I hate it so much, Ryan? Because it's so real.
you love democracy. Yeah.
Yeah. I don't wanna see democracy taken down by two dip shits.
Yeah.
Hmm.
GAAS fucks with ti old to get information from Boomer here. There are eight silences in the fleet.
Which we already do, right? Well, okay.
It is, it is an important number for the silence.
yes, we knew that there are eight different models of cylon. Right. Well, okay. But we, we know of four,
Yeah.
like we already had four in our mind and we saw the note in, was it at the end of the.
The pi,
Uh,
miniseries. Yeah.
That said, there are 12.
Yeah.
So if we did a little math in our heads, we know there are eight left.
I just read about that in the making of book, that the reason that they put that in there was specifically because that Ron d Moore was just coming off of DS nine with the change links where anyone could be one, and he very specifically wanted to put the 12 cylons in as a story crafting limit on himself to not just let anyone be a silent. Yeah. He had to make it count every time because he knew that there was a limited number.
Yeah. That's smart. That's smart. I really want that to pay off at some point of who Put that goddamn note in there. You don't have to say if it does or not. I just really want it to.
I think I asked Spoiler chat about it and I got an answer.
Okay. Okay. Yeah, so we kind of already knew like there was the number eight out there that wasn't anything new to the audience. But she does tell him specifically there are eight in the fleet.
Mm-hmm.
They may or may not be different models. Ofcy, you could have some duplicates out there. Like we went sort of had two Doral. I don't know. That was kind of underwhelming for me 'cause I was like, well, yeah, duh, I can do a, a subtraction.
I can do maths. full disclosure, I did not check this for accuracy, the number eight. I don't remember if it's accurate or not. For right now,
oh, like that are in
check. Yeah, I'd have to go and check. But uh,
Yeah, I, I, um, I wasn't sure if she was actually accessing something or not, or doing what tortured people do and just saying a thing So you stop torturing them.
that is the real question.
Yeah. He thinks he's like torturing her subconscious to pull it out so that, you know, he can get it. And I don't know what Gais thinks he's gonna do exactly with that information. But he wants to know. Gais always wants to know.
like I get that you, you put this here for like. The advancement of the story, right? You put it here for some drama, you put it here, you know, to like show that Boomer has strong feelings for the chief. So that way at the end of the episode, when she tells him that she loves him, it not, doesn't necessarily ring as hollow, that she's willing to betray Hercy for him, you
Mm-hmm.
is why you do this. But also like of anyone on earth to do this. Gaius is the guy who literally figured out how to identify Cylons and then decided that he didn't want to know
Uhhuh.
the fuck is he asking for? Like is if, if, if they had told us that Geis was secretly keeping track. Like, I want to know, but I'm not gonna tell anyone the truth. I'm gonna say everyone passes instead of rewriting the program so that even he doesn't know, which is what they explicitly say he does. This would make sense because then he would know when he found them. All right.
Mm-hmm.
The fuck does this matter
Not sure what's going on here, except that we need another scene of Chief Terell must suffer because he is also Chief O'Brien.
Yeah. Uh, We meet the resistance on Caprica thir, currently 53 Strong.
oh. Yeah. Didn't we lose a whole bunch of people a couple episodes ago? These people could be really handy, couldn't they?
Yeah, it's a bunch of people.
53.
Rosalyn goes to Doc Coddle for help getting clearance to leave the ship as Lee works with de. To get the causeway that they need to move through. Closed GAA notices some weird calm traffic and asks Dee about it. She denies knowing anything.
Uhhuh. This is very interesting too, because he's giving her a chance, like. You can come clean to me
Yeah.
Everything should be done according to our rules. Doa, and she's like, nothing's being done, sir.
Yeah.
Yeah. Billy also goes to ask the corporal for a request. Uh, And Lee visits Daddy Adama to preemptively apologize.
DEMA. Dad, goodbye. That tea.
Goodbye. Daddy. I love you, daddy. And Adama's hand twitches after Lee. Let's go.
Yeah. Another deckhand we've seen a couple of times that I forgot the name of because I thought it was Ionis, but he's dead. Gives Callie hell and she gives him hell back.
Yeah, she's scrappy now. We're fighting. She throws some punches.
She has grown from her experience on cobal.
Is it growth or is it trauma?
Well, we'll find out by the end of the episode.
Indeed. Yeah. UAA makes one more little quick visit to Lee. Just a quick hallway chat says that she has everything set and she's gotta go. And then one of the pilots it was this racetrack,
Um,
stops Lee, because she needs some help with
I think that's race track. Yeah. 'cause hotdog is in space.
Mm-hmm.
uh, Is Eddie Olmos? Edward James Olmos,
Right? Yeah. Yeah. And this was definitely a lady,
Yeah.
So someone punches the corporal out, Venner.
Mm-hmm.
And it looks like they're kidnapping, Rosalyn, but you know, they're all just leaving. But they get stopped by a marine to commercial.
Yeah. The drummer.
Ugh. But Rosalyn has a speech, she's got a speech for everything.
Mm-hmm. Just got one in the chamber here, no pun intended as she convinces this marine to not shoot the president.
Mm-hmm. She didn't exactly stand aside. Like she, she was like, you can stand aside or you can shoot me. She didn't stand aside. But when Rosalyn moved the gun, she didn't move it back.
Yeah.
She does not shoot. But surprise twist,
Hmm.
so interesting. Billy tells Rosalyn he can't come with her.
Yeah.
He can't support the insurgency this is gonna cause,
Yeah. He's not gonna support the violence y'all. Which, you know, that's, that's a path.
Yeah, I don't, I don't know. There's no right paths in any of this. It seems like we won't know until we're looking at them from the future, what was right and what was wrong.
That is how it goes sometimes. Speaking of going, everyone gets on this raptor and takes off just before CIC finds out Ty has hotdog fire some warning shots, but orders hotdog to not shoot down the raptor.
Yeah. Ultimately, he can't do it. He cannot kill Daddy Adama's actual flesh and blood sun.
Mm-hmm. gada lies to Ty about off the book Comms Here. A Sparing Duala.
yeah. Ty quickly figures out like, wait a second. They could not have gotten this far without inside help and wants to know like, where are the, where are the calls? You know, GA has got nothing. He isn't going to sell AWA out. So I mean, he must feel empathetic to the president in some way. I don't think it could be just like, oh, I don't want to get Dee in trouble.
Yeah. Gada is just a simp for resistance.
Mm.
Whenever Gada sees a resistance, he's like, I want to be there.
But I'm here stuck in the military chain of command and
Yeah.
whoop.
He, he's the, he's the boss at the job who is all like, it'd be great if you guys unionized, knowing that he can't be a part of it. Just like, Hey, it'd be great. You know, do your thing. You know, I'd, I'll be over here. I can't start it for you.
Uhhuh. Yeah. He is not about this Ty command. I mean, rightfully so. Ty is not good at this. He's just not, and they're doing him a favor really, if they can get him out of command. So the Raptor makes for cloud nine, cloud nine's our little transportation hub kind of thing. And of course Lee called Tom Zarik for help.
Yeah.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Those are words
So Rosalyn has to kind of hold her nose a bit and work with Tom's Eric.
not pleased, but we'll deal with it.
Yeah, I think Lee has a good point. I, I'm going to really restrain myself from saying that anyone is right in the show. 'cause I don't think anyone is actually right.
Yeah, that's fair.
But he has a point.
After this we go back to Caprica, where Starbuck and Anders play some pyramid.
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. It's a very close contact in this pyramid game
She gives them shit for prioritizing, building a pyramid square or whatever they, pyramid, triangle, probably whatever the field is. It's all like, why'd you guys spend time doing this? Of all things?
When obviously that's what they were going to do. Like that's how they know how to live.
It's just sports bros. Being sports bros.
Yeah. She tells Anders that she played, but a bum knee took her out. And I'm like, is that the bum knee that happened during the show or did that, did she actually have a bum knee? And then that also happened during the show.
So has someone with a bum knee.
Uhhuh
Let me tell you a bit how this goes. Sometimes when you have a, when you have a strong knee and a weak knee, what ends up happening is you end up overlying on your strong knee. Which then makes it prone to injury. And then what can happen is your good knee becomes your worse knee.
Yeah.
And then
Now you
knee becomes your okay knee. And your good knee is your bad knee. And eventually your good knee, your bad knee heals up enough where it becomes your good knee and then you're relying on that too much and it's already injury prone because it's your bum knee and then you're just fucked.
Yeah.
So it could, I mean, I've had this happen where I've had my good knee become my bad knee, become my good knee, and I've had my bad knee become my good knee, become my bad knee again. So it could be that, it could have been an old injury, aggravated,
Mm-hmm.
um, 'cause Lord knows I've done that to myself enough, just falling sometimes.
But hers doesn't keep her from putting up a good show and all of this excess sexual tension.
Ooh. Ooh.
Yeah. So Tyrell gets released. Gaas has managed to clear him. I guess we don't really. We don't really like confirm that
Yeah. The guy just says he's good and he's got the silent detector, so it doesn't matter anymore.
and for some reason Ty will accept this and we don't know if he actually tested Tiro.
Nope.
Nope. Six PT is like reaching through the bars to caress him as he talks to Tyre.
And he like holds her hand on his own chest kind of when she's not in the scene. Yeah,
he's just like caressing himself.
Yeah.
It doesn't read as caressing, but yeah,
Knowing,
like touching himself. But I thought that was interesting that we have our silent behind the bars touching him. That seems artistic.
Yeah. I wonder if that's saying something about maybe a six and some foreshadowing.
Yeah. Hmm. Interesting.
did just meet these resistance humans who know so much about the humanoid silence.
oh no.
hmm.
hmm.
hmm.
He also tells Tyrell that Boomer is going to be moved and held for testing,
Yeah. Yeah. She's gonna be experimented on.
And I guess we saw when the Kelly's pick and fights with the other engineers that they were building like a smaller cage.
Mm-hmm.
And she was like hassling them about, are you gonna put Tyrell in that thing or something? I don't know. I, but they, they were working on this earlier in the episode and now that seems to be where Boomer is headed.
Yeah. Ellen gives Ty shit as Bill comes into the room.
Yeah, she shapes up real quick when Daddy Adama shows up.
DAMA is here.
Yeah. She's like berating Saul and then puts on her best military wife persona. The second daddy Adama walks in in his bathrobe
Yeah. He is immediately empathetic to Ty before he even knows the details. Ty's just like, I fucked things up so bad. Like, you don't even, you don't even know how bad this, I've fucked things up. He's all like, yeah, but no one else here besides me understands the pressure you were under.
yeah,
I get it.
me. You can tell your dad anything. We can work this out sport.
We're gonna work this out together,
Mm-hmm. Oh, but also, where is my real son?
Oh yeah. PS where are we at? Oh man. Speaking of Adama's sons, I was reading about the original battle startle Acta and fucking Springfield. Played Zama in the original Battlestar Galactica, like Jesse's girl Rick Springfield,
That's great. I like that. Why didn't we bring Rick Springfield back?
right? Fucking Fred Astaire was Starbucks dad in the original.
Hold on. I'm just Googling If Rick Springfield was dead,
No spoilers.
uh, Appears to still be alive, so. Okay. Could have done that.
All right. We get to Boomer getting escorted to her new cell. Crowds are taunting and jeering as Callie comes out of the woodwork. And shes her. She dies in tyre's arms. Her last words, she loves him. The show ends with a shot similar to when we saw earlier this time. It's boomer's blood dripping down.
Boop, on the deck. You wanna know my last silent call for this episode,
Yeah.
Cali.
Yeah.
I was like, man, the this is, this is the 3D chess that we're playing here. We had chief two yearold get manipulated by the one cylon who didn't know she was a cylon lady. And now we're gonna shoot that cylon with our other cylon, and now she's gonna manipulate tear old.
So, the list I'm looking at that Aaron sent over was Ellen, Anders,
Oh, definitely. Yeah.
Callie, and Rosalyn.
Yes. Yeah. Yeah. So I think I even said the Anders to you. Didn't I send a, send you a picture from the Discord where you, you shared how someone could access Battlestar Galactica and
off of Prime, which will have happened by the time this episode airs. So I hope you found a way to watch Battle Star y'all.
Yeah. The cover art for that little screenshot that you were sharing,
was. It was the last
famous Last Supper one, and it's, it's cropped, so not everybody's in it. But I was looking at Starbuck and Anders not having quite met Anders yet, but I circled. His picture and I was like, this motherfucker right here, canoodling. Starbuck is definitely a silent.
So I'm not gonna confirm or deny the status of any of these five characters is cys, but I will say that two of these characters end up in a relationship
Mm-hmm.
just 'cause that's fun.
Yeah. Well, I mean, I was kind of spoiled on the, the Anders Star beast thing, but I mean, it was
Oh no. Two of the characters from your five silence, two two of them end up in a relationship.
Like together,
Yeah. No names, no details. Just think
I'm trying to remember my whole list. No. Okay. Anyway. Yeah, no, I, I, at the end, Erin was like, wow, you are getting like really out there. And I was like, no. Callie like this is, this is how you get the, the defective silo outta the way. Like she wasn't working right. And they're about to be experimenting on her. So we just have the other silo shoot her real quick and now she can slip in there and manipulate two year. 'cause clearly he feels a kind of way about her.
I don't know if it's a romantic kind of way about her, but he definitely was like, you know, having her back with crash down and that whole situation. It's like, I don't know if it's little sister vibes or it's, you know, she's super cute vibes, but yeah, this is how you get a new one in there to, to
Yeah. This is how you end up in a sex cult. So, uh, before we move on, I just wanted to call out this episode was directed by Alan Roker,
Okay.
Who did Bastille Day in Season One, because the direction in this episode is very, like, stylized and it's all like, I feel like I've seen something else. This guy's done. And so I checked and I went on the, the IMDB. He did Year of Hell on Voyager.
Oh, he's an artist.
He also did
Elle is really good. Bastille Day was really good.
He also did 13 episodes of Deep Space Nine, including its finale.
Wow.
So he did the Voyager finale and the DS nine finale and did 26 episodes between DS nine and Voyager.
Yeah, we have seen
We've seen a ton of his work. He's done a bunch of other shows that I've seen. He did an episode of Supernatural episodes of stuff here and there. Um, some Twilight Zones yeah, all kinds of stuff.
But did he do any Airwolf?
He did do a viper,
Oh, how funny.
Not one that we watched,
Gonna go watch that one for fun.
no, no, I'm not,
I didn't think you were
although I will say uh, we've, it hasn't aired yet, but we've uh, we're already started recording our next show. Because we're a little bit ahead because of my pending vacation. And I can't believe I'm about to say this, I would probably rather be watching Viper than Billions right now,
No. I look forward to that coverage. I need more context.
Yeah. Well, I mean, eh Beth called it Entourage for Finance Bros. That's pretty correct.
That, could be pedantic. Yeah.
yeah.
All right. Ugh,
Yeah. All right, so episode rating time. Gimme that episode rating on a scale of one to 12 colonies.
It's so hard. 'cause it is really good. Like I especially loved the rapid pacing up to like. All the pieces falling into place to get Rosalyn off the ship. As much as I hate the shit going down with Ty 'cause you just want him to like be better man. It's a really artful, falling apart and really believable and really pulls at you and makes you feel things especially just how bad he's fucking it all up. And Daddy ADA's back. We miss daddy a so I don't know, I gotta give it at least like a 10.
Oh, this is an 11 for me. Yeah. I really liked this episode.
Yeah, I really can't wait for Star Bees to figure out how to get off Capa.
Yep. It's
I guess they have an idea. They were, they did talk in the episode about we've gotta get with all these people and steal Raptor.
yeah,
So there's that.
well, we'll see it. We'll figure it out and maybe we'll figure it out next week. We got season two, episode five, the Farm. Oh. We're gonna be joined by Gloria Anne from Cool Girls. Don't look at Explosions. Hey.
I can't wait.
This one she picked out I did not pick for her, um, after the, I don't wanna say it was a fiasco last time, but
Was she operating on strong Roslyn episode vibes again, or did she have another idea, or do we just need to ask her?
we, we will talk to her about it. Uh, But it Adama and Rosalyn fight for the hearts and minds of the fleets population as Starbuck finds herself trapped in a resistance hospital.
Huh?
Yeah.
I, we, we were only introduced to 53 people. I suppose they could have their own hospital
Hmm. Seems awfully suspicious from an episode description, doesn't it?
yeah.
slightly alter that one too. Uh, maybe I shouldn't have, but that's fine.
Huh?
Because I, I took out, I took out one word. I took out the word suspicious from resistance Hospital.
Hmm.
But now that we're talking about it and you're instantly suspicious, I feel like removing that word did nothing. So.
Yeah. No, I find it suspicious. Yeah.
Yeah, that's fair. You're supposed to,
How do 53 people rent a hospital? Like,
all right, well that's that. You know, I guess all that's left to do is say thank you. So let's, let's say thank you. Uh, hey, Jeremy. Jeremy Siegel, Jeremy Siegel, 40 two.bandcamp.com, the nuclear Jaguar. Thanks so much for making our theme music. Appreciate the hell out of it. Appreciate the hell outta you buddy. Thanks so
Yeah, we do. Yeah. And thanks to angry Duck time machine on Instagram for the podcast artwork.
Hey Aaron, thanks so much for editing this podcast and putting in all my stupid drops and making us sound funnier by adding a bunch of your own and uh, just making us sound like coherent, intelligent people instead of people who shouldn't have drank a nine and a half percent beer at 10:00 PM and now it's 1130 and you really just want to go to bed, which is where I definitely am.
You know, some days you get the early morning us and we're having our coffee and having a good time. And some days you get nighttime beer time podcasters.
Nighttime, beer time. Hmm.
And thank you listener for spending some of your day with us talking about Battlestar Galactica and all the crazy string theories that Laura has on who's asylum.
Yeah. Thanks so much for spending time with us. We got the Discord. Appreciate anyone over there love our Discord community. Maybe it's a five star rating. We'll give you a shout out on the podcast if you leave a review that has a username attached to it.
Yeah.
