This is about to be good radio. To me, a craft brewer is much more of a mindset. We just opened to cans. Spread the gospel of good beer beer. Tons and tons of stuff going on in the beer world. I love craft beer. I love different people's beer. It's the first favorite. Cheers two old US beer geeks and those new to the craft. What's on Tap? High five? Who? This is What's on Tap

Radio Beer and the culture that flows with it. Pears Beer Guru James Simpson, Beer Logics Chad Pilbean Finally, finally and waiting for this time all week. It's good to be back my Chad. Hey Bill, Hey guys, if we make it through December, we will make it. I promise we're gonna make it out. There's a finish line. And you know the thing is, it doesn't matter whether we want December to come to an end or not, or whether we're dying for it, like just really anticipating it.

It happens regardless. It's just insane how we're already in December. I felt like just a few months ago we were kicking off. Man, we're gonna have a great gear in twenty twenty three. Here our predictions, here's what we think is gonna happen, And here we are in December, going not ut that happened. Our predictions were wrong. No more glitter beer. I was predicting. I was like, wait, I heard COVID cases are coming back. They're gonna shut down the economy again, and blame breweries, bars,

and restaurants. That's what the brewery, bar restaurant skapegoat. God, do you remember that we used to do this stories years ago? But hey, oh my god, here we are. Man, I'm glad to have you a board. We got a wonderful show planned for you. Guys, got some beers on in the cooler here, ready to kick things off. But before we do, we got to do rights we gotta do it rights by thanking our partners in crime. It's stuck with us all year. Happy

I'm talking about Tantrik Brewing, Superior Pest Control, Bido Logic, Conference and Events, Rended, Tenak Insurance Group, the Backyard Grill, and of course sponsoring our podcast, which is available every place you looked at podcasts are available. That's cast branding, cast brand and cast branding.

Welcome to the show, and the first segment is brought to the table speaking of sponsors, brought to you by our good friends over at the Backyard Grill. Brought to the table were I'm cracking a beer, Chads cracking beer. I'm guessing Bill's probing cracks some beers as well. And I hope whatever you're doing, as long as you're doing responsible, you can have a beer with

us. Because right if you're watching a newborn right now, probably not the best time to crack open a beer, driving a car operating heavy machinery. Yeah, if you're rebuilding a transmission right now, probably not the best time to do it. No, But if your mother in law just shows up Hey, you know what, you can thank her for coming over and interrupting this fine program, and you're got two hours of beer for your Hey, mom, I'm gonna be busy for a while and it's just another reason to

go crack open a beer again. This is brought to the table, brought to our friends at the Backyard Grill on the northwest side of Houston, where, yeah, you don't have to bring any beer there. They've got lots of it, different beers. I'll bet you the beer I'm bringing into the table they have on tap at the Backyard Grill. Oh, you're gonna make a bold prediction, am party confident. The beer that I'm bringing to the table is available at the Backyard Grill. So if you like what I'm talking

about, when I'm i'm dressing it up, I'm ready. You know what you're gonna go first? Oh okay, I can do that now. This is a beer we brought to the table. We brought to the table many

times. But I got a friend who lives down the street who works for this brewery, who's ah, who's a brewer at this brewery, And he came by over of Thanksgiving and and shared Thanksgiving with us and him and his family, and he brought me some beer to bring and one of those is probably one of the most famous India pale ales in the state of Texas. Can you ticket guess what beer that is famouser? I p a. I'm going to say Kentucky Bourbon stout from Three Floyd's Brewering Company. Oh wait,

nail the real beer. They don't make that, but you guess it's it's Oh was it Trevor? Did Trevor bring it by? Oh? Actually, my good buddy Ryan Robertson. Oh yeah, he brought me a plethora of different loan pint Thora. We're doing those commercials plethora days, so only going practice loan pints. Now, wait, this is regular yellow Rose. This is just regular yellow Rose. Okay, so this is smash ipa single malt single hoped. I believe it's a mosaic. I pa as. I'm doing

the sales pitch on it. But didn't they just release Double Yellow Rose limited release? Stay tuned. I just scooped james next beer, and this is the beer that This is the elusive Double Yellow Rose that I have not got my hands on. So the second release of it. Anyway, James is sitting there smiling from ear to ear. Fresh. This is yellow rose, fresh, yellow rose, right off the canning line into my fridge here at Studio S and it is everything you want in a nice ipa single malt,

single hop. It has got a lot of flavor and it's coming to you. It's a little higher of an ABV than I anticipated. It's at six point eight percent. But yeah, the hops are simple creatures just hanging in there. But yeah, it is mosaic hops in there. Good call there, Chad, good call. But that's how I'm kicking things off. Yeah, nice in this smooth it's very smooth, and just a lot of complexity to it. All. Mosaic hops are pretty complex. Hop. It's not

really a single it's not a single note, single dimension on that. But all right, well that's what you brought to the table. Now I want to go. I want to give you time to bring your beer to the table. Then next segment, I'm gonna I won't need much time. Now. This one's gonna be interesting because see here. You may have seen me

on social media. I had a chance to go see the Spartans get their butts kicked a while back by Penn State and then I went and watched the Michigan State Ohio State game, and I drank Blueberry beer on our social media because I was wanting to see Ohio State lose. I'm not a big Ohio State fan at all, and I have had zero time to recover and go to the beer store. Thank goodness, Bill from Harvardlight Brewering Company stop by, and he brought some tasty, tasty beer. And then I look over

and I'm like, well, he brought some amazing beers. Bill, and this ladies and gentlemen, Oh yeah, we've got beer, James, I don't know if you have that, you get that cut, Let's go. Yeah, let's play some steely Dans in honor of Schlitz beer being brought to the bull. Hey, and it's a twist off fancy fancy bar blades for you. No, but you know it's a real good, basic beer. And that's my number one beer, lawnmower beer. Okay, yeah, yeah,

this time of year, I'm I'm thinking about mowing my lawn. Bill, Okay, yeah, that's what we're going well during the silver this time of the year in Michigan anyway, it's my snowplow, all right, well, hey, James, what do you got on that? Chad? What do I got? I got smells like beer? In fact, in fact, I hit up a dive bar recently and I walked in and I was like, hold on a second, is that uh? Is that dru Car

Noir? Or is that schlitz I it's not cologne. Hitchlit's all right, we're gonna talk more about this beer, but James, tell everybody what we got? What's on tap this week? My favorite story of the year always comes out around this time. What new gimmick is Miller Lite selling this holiday season that we're gonna try to get our hands on all? This is so much more, including the official what's on tapware? You a fun factor of the week coming right out. We'll be right back. We like to have

at least five practice beers before we have our actual beer. Well you need now, there's lots of practice. What's on tap Radio continues, Hey, you know, it doesn't matter what kind of beer you drink. Do you like it ice cold? Do you like it served its cellar temperature? Do you like it served in a fancy glass or just drinking it from a long

neck model? It doesn't matter because Everybody who drinks beer loves great food, and you're gonna find both at the Backyard Grill, located on the northwest side of Houston, Texas, at the corner of West in Jones Row and proud sponsors of What's on Tap Radio. Here's Chad Pilbem, the Beer Lout you guy here telling you to get out there and support those who support us. And when you go in there, hey, like I said, it doesn't matter what kind of beer you like. They've got it ice cold beer right

They got a secret stash forty eight taps everything you want in one hundred different food items at the Backyard Grill. Check out their beer beds, sign up for their newsletter and find out more at the Backyard Grill dot com. That's the Backyard Grill dot Com. There's a Yellow Rules in Texas. I'm going home see the alumn of Hill Hervey. Oh love to have some yellow Roses in my front yard. W nice, Welcome back to

What's on Tap Radio. Some dusty roads as I'm joining the Yellow Rose Smash India plol from Loan Pine Brewing Company Magnolia, Texas. It's a beer that we brought to the table for but it's a beer I'm pretty confident they have over at the Backyard Girl from time to time. Uh yeah, yeah, yellow Rose might be on tap almost always always. Oh it's been you know, I'm not gonna lie. Uh. Last time I was in town, I stayed near Producer Dusties or at even at Producer Dusties. And he lives

just down the road from Yellow Rose or from Loan Pipe Pie. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, And I was able to just swing out there and grab fresh yellow Rose whenever I wanted, and he has it in his fridge all the time. Did you go by the Probably didn't. Yeah,

he lit right by the brewery. Oh it's nice, nice, I know, And so I, uh, I didn't really have a need when I was at Backyard to get over there, and you know, they got one hundred different beers, Like I don't really need to order a yellow Rose right now because I just had it at Dusties, right, So you know that's uh. And I have it right at the brewery too. But was there double yellow Rose? No, No, that just came out and be nice. I'm not gonna confirm her deny whether or not I am going to

be bringing that later on in the show. But when those lists come out, we talk about these, We talk about these lists that come out every so often about the top India Palels in the country and the top stouts in the country and so forth. But when it comes to the top India palles, it breaks it down by states. Yellow Rose is always Texas always, even though we have some amazing, amazing India paleols here in the lone Star State, yellow Rose seems to always top that list of the most popular India

pale ales. But I think yeah, because people, you know, it's not as widely distributed, and therefore there's a little bit of that fomo fear of missing out. It's like if I get my hands on it, I want it, you know, kind of like Ghost in the Machine with the

Parish. When it first came out, remember it was it was so you had to go to the brewery to get it, and people were making pilgrimages over there to pick it up. And now one like onn't like you could just go into any gas station on the way over to the buer Logic World headquarters and drinking and porium and say, well, you got any Schlitz.

I want to thank you. There's not a line on Black Friday. There's not a line on Black Friday to get their hands on the latest release of Shits, but I do, I do want to take this time to take a sip and tell you what I taste. And because you know the listeners,

they want to know for those that haven't tasted it before. But if you notice, I got my loan pints, my low pint glass there, so I you know, I wanted to get all the aromas out so and go and take a ship and it's got a chalk white head on it there, chad, very clean malt, very clean malt backbone. I know you don't like that term, but this is what I'm tasting, all right, the hopson parts strong grapefruit mm hmm, pineapple in a touch, a blueberry

flavor in the aroma. So that's what I'm getting. Six point eight percent alcohol by volume. Again, this is a yellow rose from Long Pine Brewery and Magnolia Texas. Nice. That's all right. Well, with every sip, so Bill brought Schlitz and it tastes like beer, and that's what we are drinking on our the beer that made Milwaukee famous. No less. By the way, this is not your fun fact, but the reason that Schlitz

made Milwaukee famous. I don't know if anybody remembers this fun fact, but it has to do with the great Chicago fire that took out so many breweries, and well, Schlitz up there in Milwaukee decided to pack up some beer and haul it down there to the thirsty patrons as they rebuilt the city of Chicago. And doing so, people ask, where's this beer from? The said Milwaukee, of course, and well, the fine folks of Chicago, showing their appreciation, gave the gave the title of you know, Schlitz as

the beer that made Milwaukee famous. That's been official what's on top of your fun Factor of the week. No no, that's the official teaser. No no, we can do. We can do one better than that. We can do like something new that we haven't done before. Prove it now. The official What's on Tap Radio Fun Fact of the Week, brought to you by Who's ever checked? Clear? This week? I said proven, Chad

handed his slits to Billy, saying here, hold my beer. I know we had a lot of feedback on last week's fun Fact, it was like, Chad, were you completely comfortable doing the fun fact? I guess I don't know if it was last week, but recently the one about Steely Dan. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, the one I should have ran the

disclaimer. You don't have to run the disclaimer on this one. It's gonna you're it's gonna seem like it when I set this up, and you're gonna be like, Chad, this is not what we want to start off with, especially since we've got a really great story about how women might be saving beer. Oh yeah, oh yeah, that's on the one sheet. That's a good teaser right there, Like it is all right, but here we go as we drink our schlitz. And by the way, yes, the

story about Steely Dan little little awkward. Make sure the kids aren't in the room when you're listening. But I'm going to ask you, do you know what I can't believe. I'm going to say this, Oh man, what do Christmas and beating your wife have in common? Being crosby? Wow? Wow? Oh well that was I wasn't going to quite go there, but I was going to say. I was going to say it's a particular beer. There is a particular beer that has been associated with both beating your wife

and Christmas. This is a beer that has roots all the way back to the thirteen hundreds. It is Belgian in origin, and it was released on Christmas Day in nineteen twenty six and its name comes after the brewery owner and

founder and recipe maker for this particular beer and the Christmas Star. And this was a popular beer that was brewed all throughout Belgium, and they stopped brewing it during the World Wars, and then they started rebrewing it again in the nineteen sixties and then under contract it became very popular in the United Kingdom and in England particularly, and then it started to be brewed in England under contract

with Whitbread in nineteen seventy six and then Yeah Well in the nineteen eighties and nineteen nineties, the beer became so popular in London pubs that it was one of the most consumed beers and it was associated with people get rowdy drunk and starting street fights and disorderly conduct. This beer that we speak of is none other than Stella Artois. Stella Artois Artois, named after the brewer refounder.

Stella for Star was released in nineteen twenty six on Christmas Day. The star on the label has been associated with the Christian star with the birth of Jesus and the star that the wise men followed to find Jesus laying in the manger. However, as the beer became more popular in the United Kingdom, this was a beer that came in at five point two percent, when most British beers were nothing anywhere near that. They were three and a half percent to

four percent. So if you went to the pub and drank three or four four percent beers, you were fine, you were went home and you were a good husband and father. But apparently when you drank three or four five point two percent beers in the United Kingdom, well you would go home and beat your wife. Why because as the beer became more popular, according to reports, street fights and disorderly contact conduct broke out more frequently, and domestic

abuse started to increase. And this all at the time whenever Stella started to advertise the under the slogan Stella for the fellas, the guys who liked their beer stronger, and that all fed the testosterone, and all of a sudden if you started drinking Stella, everybody said, well call the wife and warner.

He's coming home. Ladies and gentlemen, your official What's on tap Radio fun fact of the week is because Stella was brewed at one point two percent higher ABV than most British beers, Stella was the nickname in the United Kingdom the wife beater beer of England because too many husbands, we're drinking it in excess in bars, and domestic abuse was on the rise. And Stella beer released nineteen twenty six on Christmas Day. So what do Christmas and beating your

wife have in common? Not just bing Crosby but Stella Artois. That's your official what's on tap radio fun fact of the week. Wow, that was an odd one. Okay, all right, well we're gonna take a break on that and come back and talk about Colorado, recover our female together like Mari, like Voltron, and we have a saving beer industry. All of this is so much more. We'll be we'll be right back. The only thing we throw back on Thursday is a pint of beer or two or three.

This is what's on tap Radio. Get back to James and Chad, the Holly Green, the Ivy Green. The prettiest picture you've ever seen is Christmas in with all the folks. All that place is nice time of year. Welcome back to What's on Top Radio, regrouping after Chad's interesting fun Facts. I was gonna say we missed an opportunity. We really did. We did this last year, but we missed it. That would have been a great opportunity if we had a you know, in studio producer to push the

do the research for us and remind us. It would have been nice to hear John Denver's please Daddy, don't get drunk this Christmas. That would have been we missed an opportunity. We've done that. I mean, we've been on the air for ten years. I know we've done it. And we've

done that. We came out of the story where where where basically, you know, pair you know, families are disappointed in dad's bad decisions and drinking too much and we're still arta We're not laughing about No, it's actually Stella is Stella is doing everything they can to get rid of that that story. Like they never will talk about it. They just don't want anything to do with it. Nobody talks about it. It just goes away. But that

is a public old race, public relations nightmare right there. It is. It is. And then all of a sudden it's like, wha wait a minute, we just can't we just got out of that story. I feel like, Casey, case how is it that we come out of a cut about a beer being called the wife beer and you miss an opportunity to play Please, Daddy, don't get drunk this Christmas? Am I dealing with a bunch of amateurs? Here? Come on? We are Sometimes it's not it's

not funny. In fact, later in the show, we are going to be talking about what I think is one of the most uplifting and logical, Like I mean, it makes so much sense. It's great for business, it's great for beer, and it's it's frankly, I'm gonna even say this, it's great for society as a whole. And what Chad's talking about? Your notre Light has come out with their latest gimmick and we're gonna see if we can get our hands on it. No, no, no, I'm

saying women, that's right, maybe the savior for craft beer. I believe they don't believe me. You gotta stick around and find out because this is gonna be I read the research on this. The story's great. I'm excited about it. It makes perfect sense and it's not as stereotypical as you might think. It actually goes a lot more to your head than it does your heart. It makes a lot of sense on this story. That's a good tease, Chad. But we gotta get some stories. But uh, yeah,

Chad's out of beer. He's done with the Schlitz that he brought. The table brought to you by the dock. I didn't bring it, billed it. By the way, I want to thank Harbor Light Bill for stopping by. He saw the light on and he's like, well, you know, maybe I can help keep the lights on someday too, you know. But meanwhile, I'll bring a beer for Chad and James to talk about. He brought Schlitz, okay, but that was just one of the beers.

I hated to bring more than that. But this beer that we're getting here, this is from Trail Point Brewery in Allendale, Michigan, home of Grand Valley State University, my alma water. And uh, this one here, it's the Sippa Potamus. It's not a hippopotamus, but it's a sippa, as in, take a sip sip apotamus citter i pa, and it is a triple dry hop citra i pa with a humongous citrus peachy nose, according to what it says in the yearbook, Jim. But let's have a taste

here, all right, chest, give it a nice swirl there. What you got there? I think it. I think it lives up to the name. But I'm also gonna I'm gonna make an observation. I noticed the can was a little squishy whenever I picked it up. I don't know if it was just a little lofill. I'm getting a little oxidation on it, just a little. But it's a little more refreshing than what I expected. Like it's it's very crisp, and it finishes clean. Yeah, very crisp.

And uh you know what that citra hop tastes like very citra hop forward. Wow. You know how whenever you drink an ipa, normally it leaves your tongue really dry. That's a brewers secret to keep you drinking. Yeah, this one here just clean, like doesn't really hang around too much, but it doesn't dry out it's a nice beer. I like it, so, uh Citra or sorry, sipa Potamus from Trail Point Brewing Company and uh it's it's like I said, maybe a little oxidation on that, but from

being a little low fill on that. I don't know, maybe or low carbon it's low in carbonation too, that's the other one. Maybe that's what I'm getting is it's because it wasn't completely full. But that's all right, all right, I'm not hating it. I don't feel cheated. That's what I care about right there. I feel like I got good value and I'm still drinking my yellow rose here smash India Pallel from Loan Pine Brewing Company Magnolia, Texas, which is very nice. But speaking of I p as,

I like it when posts on social media come topics on the show. So the other day, I'm just mind of my own business and I'm scrolling through the old social media killing time, and I come across pints and panels and pints of panels. It's a it's a great blog. Were her name's to come off the top of my head, I know we were gonna try and get her on the show at one point in time, and our schedules just didn't work out. Yeah, she's written many books. She's really awesome,

she's a great artist. But she came out with this this post and it says one I p A has to go, and she andrew all these I pas, which is very very talented, and one of these I pas has to go. And there's four of them. So starting with the first one is the Celebration Fresh Hop India Palleles there Nevada, which comes out around this time each year, which is one of my favorite beers. I love that beer. Yeah, that beer is not going anywhere. By the way, her name is m yes as An e m m m. That's right,

and I've met her before. She's really sweet, nice really she goes by. I got her story to my context. Yes, so all right, So yeah, first of all, that beer never going, No, you're not gonna if you got to get rid of one. I p A Celebration I p A not no. Next beer on the list Kalamazoo Michigan two Hearted India PL, rated number one India PL. I don't know how many years running. I think it was four years in a row. Yeah, four years in a row. So that's the second beer. Third Doer that's not

going anywhere. Third beer Julius, India Pall Treehouse Brewing Company. I'm going to take a beating for saying this, but so far Julius is gone the last do you have a thought on this? I've never had Julius. Okay, so he's with me on this one. It's really true. HiT's a super good beer. And the next beer on the list that rounding out one India pll has to go. According to the pints of Panels, Pliny the

Elder Russian River Brewing Company, Santa Rosa, California. Now, so one of these beers has to go. I know a lot of people who are going to pick on Pliny because Pliny was so hyped for so long, and they're like, yeah, it's not as good as ever. You know what, blind Pig is better. That's that's the thing. If you really want to know who the craft beer people are who've been in the game a really

long time. When somebody says, oh, I got some Pliny and that and somebody responds blind Pig's better, it's like, oh, here we go. It's like they have a more discerning palate. I don't know, James, you you brought it up, so I chimed in. Pick and before I before I say anything, Bill, what beer would you say that has

to go off this list? Well, the biggest problem for me with that ish Plane of the Elder being on the West coast, it's hard to get a good fresh Planet of the Elder anywhere east of the Mississippi, so we don't have the same tasting beer that they do out on the West coast. Best ip I ever had was enjoy by Stone Brew. But if you get it by the enjoy by date, which means it's fresh, happier, tastier, crisper, cleaner, they're all I p as are all better when they're

consumed fresh. And okay, Bill earlier, Bill, which which beer you get? Ready? Bill, which you get rid of? Yeah, he's buying time because he doesn't want to pick, because he's gonna piss off some who're gonna vote off the island. Pick one, Julius, Julius. I'm with you on this, Julius. I I like Julius. I think it's great, But using the same logic as Bill, you're not gonna get fresh

Julius on the West coast. And I'm okay with that. So I'm okay with letting Julius go, here's my here's my little That's what I have an issue with on this celebration. I P A single, I P A two hard at any single, I P A Julius, I P A single, I P A Plenty of the Elder double I P A kind of doesn't really fit with this category. I figured that you probably want to put why put a double in the appl al in there? Put another single in the appll there. But yeah, I don't know, I don't know. I don't

know, man. I's just so I say he's not a good comparison because Plenty of the Elder is a double India pall. So that says which I PA needs to go with Plenty is the double Indie apl Here's where I got a beating on the internet. Somebody and I quote said, god, what are you si cud or retord? Somebody said that and a quote quote that's a quote that somebody called me, what are you si cud retard? Like, whoa, I'm just correct, Okay, that's not politically credit. I

didn't say that that's what they called me. I just simply noticed that. Hey, I pointed out that Plenty of the Elder is a double INDIEPLL. Now, if I were gonna pick, I'd probably say Julius as well. But I just simply pointed out that Plenty is a double in the upll and maybe there should have been another India pl on this list. And I got a beating about it so much somebody called me a quote unquote retard. Geez, I know people are vicious on the internet. I mean it was it

was a drawing that sparked discussion, not controversy. And let's just face it, none of us we need to say this before we go to break because people are gonna start freaking out running the store and stop listing. None of these four beers is going away now. We don't have the inside scoop. They're all here, and also here, we've got a lot more that we're gonna be talking about. We're gonna be opening up more beers, and we're

gonna be talking about how women are gonna save craft beer. But let us know on your social on social media, which I pa you'd let go yep, let us know at what's on Tap radio at gmail dot com, or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. All right, we got to take a break, but coming up Colorado breweries coming together like Voltron. We'll talk about why this is what's on tap radio. Will be right back. And the teacher said, no, Bobby, there's no such time as beer oclock

fire that teacher, this is what's on tap radio. I want a hipple bottom us for Christmas. Oh hipp bottom. You know did she ever get a hippopotamus for Christmas? I don't know if I ever got in the update. Actually, I'm glad you brought that up. Okay, So that song was written in the United Kingdom right around the late nineteen eighties early nineteen nineties, and it's based on a true story. And there was a little girl

who wanted hippopotamus for Christmas. And dad was like, I don't know how I'm gonna do it, but in fact, I don't even think we can. So he went to the bar, he drank three or four stella artois. He's like, oh no, no, he did it, No, he did it, And he was on his way to go steal it from the zoo, and then some guy challenged him and he got in a fight, and he went home, got in an argument with his wife and she never got her hippopotamus. Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that. By

the way, all of that was completely made up. So I have to say that after the fact because the Telecommunication Act of nineteen fourteen, signed by Thomas Jefferson, says that if you're going to say it on the radio, it has to be true or else you have to say I just made all that up. All right, that is it. And by the way, I just made that up too. Welcome back to What's on Tap Radio, where yes, a little girl did not get the hippopotamus for Christmas? Or

did she? The question remains if you know the answer, let us know. Also, we had the sipa Potamus from Trail Point Brewery out of Allendale, Michigan, home of Grand Valley State University, and Bill and I are almost out and we just got of our hipopotamus stunt beer liver hanging out in studio and James was talking about a social media piece. Well, what would we do? You know which I p A would you get rid of? One has to go. I'm curious, what what? What? What says

you? We have Celebration Fresh Hop I p A from Snaring Avauda, which is amazing. I've yet to bring that beer to the show. I need to the two hard in the India Pelout, which is one of my all time favorite Indiapla the Julius Indiapla Al Tree House Brewing, which is a great beer. And then of course what we're talking about, playing the Elder, which is very hard beer to get because they don't really sell it well. Julius is hard to get as well. Julius is I just have. I've

got how I got my hands on it. But it's interesting. Real quick, before you guys crack that beer. That In Colorado, there's this restaurant. It's almost like a Chili's, but it's not a Chili's, but it's one of those American grill restaurants and it's tucked away in the mountains. And my father in law loves, loves this little hole in the wall little grill. And so we're in Colorado and we happened to stop there because he wanted to eat there and he wanted us to, you know, to try it.

And on tap at this hole in the wall little grill that almost reminded me of Chili's in the middle of Colorado, Blind Pig and plane of the elder on tap. Somebody had a good relationship with their distributor. That's exactly. I mean. I had to take a picture of the menu, and I have it somewhere, but I was like, just keep them coming, keep them coming, keep them coming. That's when you hand the keys over to your wife. Oh. I wasn't driving. My father in law was

driving, so I was along for the ride. And uh yeah, we had just gotten to the canyons and I just got blind Pig Pliny, Blind Pig Pliny. So anyways, blind pigs. Better just shut up. Funny story about blind pig. But go ahead, Chad, No, no, no, Dusty, producer, Dusty Man, I'm gonna pick up producer, Dusty. I know what I'm gonna throw this out. Oh yeah, that the story with Pliny, and it was blind Pid too. I think, all right, we'll get to that in a second. But this is this

is another beer that Harbor Light Bell brought. Uh the hang out here today, you know, because if you don't bring beer, you gotta sit on the floor. And well he's comfortably seated in the chair at the table with a microphone in his face. Black Rocks Burn Company, My kiss, I p A My kiss, I p A. This is a seven point ABV and uh. I like the can. It says we love beer, you love beer. Let's get together. Like that's it's eloquent in its simplicity.

Wisdom right there, words of wisdom. Yeah, I know, I'm gonna take a little sip here. Well that's nice. That is that's that's that's when you're drink an I p A. You want that little bit of bitterness and I I want bitterness. I don't want just grapefruit juice. This has some citrus notes to it, but it actually it's got bitter, a little bit of a bitter pile and I like that. Not too heavy in the body, it's not real clear. It's got a little chill haze to it.

Maybe or maybe they don't filter their beer. I'm not sure. But presentation is nice, nose is really nice. I don't build anything else you want to add to this? Yeah, a lot of citrus and uh just uh, super crushable. See. I like the bitterness that goes with it because it balances out that fruitiness. But what's the name of the beer again? It is My Kiss? Black Rocks Brewing Company, Marquette Michigan m y K I S S I P A uh. They're putting out some good stuff.

Interesting I always have. Yeah, it's a solid brewery. Brewery, solid brewery. Yes, in fact, that might even be a solid investment if you if you're looking for a breweried investor. Actually, I would never tell anybody right now what brewer to invest in or not to invest in. But we were talking about Treehouse, and Treehouse is in the news now They've got what is it, a million people that visit their brewery and I think they have four different location in the area. It's like, Okay, they're

making some money. But apparently that's the beer that people are voting off the island for this list. Well, at least the shareholders might be. It's a great majority shareholders are in big trouble because they have, according to one complaint from some minority investors, they have paid themselves lavish and excessive salaries and invested some sixteen million dollars from the brewery in other LLC's and holding corporations to

buy real estate which are not associated with the brewery. Oh Eric Granger, a two percent shareholder in the incredibly successful Treehouse Brewing Company, is filing a

complaint and may move forward with a lawsuit because he's identified. Since some of these smaller holding companies have been discovered and were mentioned as spin offs of Treehouse, they have basically they discovered the assets that are being held in there, and they were paid for by dividends from or rather cash from Treehouse Brewery. Now you may be asking yourself, what's wrong with that? Why aren't they

you know, why what do we see? The problem? The problem is is that the two majority shareholders who are the founders of Treehouse Brewery, who are investing and siphoning all this money off, Oh, well, they haven't paid any dividends to the minority shareholders. So for all the people who invested in this brewery, which has an economic impact of oh, according to one report, one hundred and forty three million dollars across its four Massachusetts locations,

has not paid out any dividends to the minority shareholders. This could be they're saying right now, over a million people come visit it has this economic impact. And oh, by the way, yeah, you got a limited liability corporation over here with thirteen million dollars in real estate assets including a home that is right on the waterfront, so they are. Now it's not officially a

lawsuit, but calls to Treehouse attorneys have not been returned. Nobody's talking about it, and litigation letters have been sent and they're demanding a response or else a lawsuit may move forward. So stay tuned to see what happens with Treehouse Brewing Company as the investigation continues into the dividends for shareholders and how funds may have been taken inappropriately. Cord, that's wild. You gotta think it's like, wait a minute, you know they were going to find out eventually.

I don't know how you wouldn't think that they they wouldn't find out like gre You think first it started off as just like all right, nobody know, and then they got more greedy. Well, I mean it's possible because if I remember correctly, they said something in here that they also bought themselves. Not besides waterfront, I think they also bought themselves Tesla's and there were a

few other assets that they bought. I'm trying to find the list here of everything that they paid themselves, but yeah, they bought cars and furniture and things like that. It was kind of a little bit excessive and according to that also a really really good salary. Wow. So all right, any for their developments, we'll bring it to you. But that's quite the story right there. All right. That's our number one of What's on Tap Radio?

Coming up next, our Miller Lite, just in time for the holidays, has a new gimmick and we're gonna try to get our hands on it. We're gonna talk about Colorado breweries coming together like Voltron and women saving beer. All this and so much more coming up and our number two What's on Tap Radio? Hang with us. We'll be right back and now your weekend forecast chance of beer. You've got What's on Tap Radio? All right, welcome to hour number two What's on Tap Radio? A lot to get to

this hour. Miller Light. Miller Light always comes out around this time of the year with their latest gimmick, and we have yet to get our hands on any pass gimmicks, and we're gonna try this year. We're gonna try this year to see if we can get our hands on their latest holiday gimmick. Colorado breweries or joining forces like Folktron will explain why and women are saving the beer industry all this and so much more coming up this hour. You

know, last hour we cracked open a beer. I'm not gonna put this beer on that list Vie that I want to try and debate. But this is you know what is it s the old saying I wouldn't mind having this beer in my fridge all the time. This is a nice beer. This is the my kiss ipa from Black Rocks Brewery. And I know James, you know, he doesn't have a stunt beer liver with us this week. This week I was kind of hoping that he was going to open the Double

maybe the Double Yellow Rose. Maybe. Actually, you know what, I don't know. I don't care if he does or not. He's in a different studio at the moment. I am in studio s so I may, I may not know. We'll see, we'll see. I can't confirm, deny what's going to happen here. But what I can say, what I can tell you is a real quick moore. I get in the hole my beer and watch this that. Speaking of Blind Pig and planning, the Elder

Russian River Brewing Company out of Santa Rose, California. We're at the Great American Beer Festival. I want to say. This was probably what twenty sixteen seventeen producer Dusty Travis two point zero. We're over at I don't know where you were, Chad. I don't think you were with us when we went to We were no. Remember I had a beer logic speaking gig and I flew in the was it the next morning? Oh, that's for the media right before I came in, right before the media breakfast at the Sam Adams.

Yeah, the Boston Beer. You actually came. You came with your luggage to the right to the restaurant to breakfast with you guys. Yep, we had the brunch and the beer. But the night before, Yeah, we go to Falling Rock, which we always did. When was I mean, one of the most iconic craft beer bars in all of the country. Chris Black one of our dear good friends. But the Bird they since closed the bar, but it was a huge event every time the Great Americana Act.

But they're pouring Blind Pig and Pliny the Elders. Yeah, and so they had some satellite bars outside where they were just had some jockey box, a beer stay, yeah, beer station, pine from a couple of different things, and they get some jockey boxes, and they were pouring blind pig and pliny, but they were pouring it in plastic cups. And so Travis two point oh and I were like, let's go and short put it in

a plastic cut poort in my hand. I don't care. But meanwhile, producer Dusty was like, I'm not drinking those beers out of a plastic cut. No, I'm not. I'm gonna go inside. I'm gonna get myself a glass and then come out and get it. But the lines were so long inside that it took him probably like thirty minutes to get himself a glass. And then he comes came, and he came back, and here he

is getting himself a pliny in the glass. Meanwhile, Travis two point oh and I had probably three plinties and three blank pigs in the time that he came back, all in our plastic cups. I have moral Dama stories because he has. He's a very principled individual. I love Dusty. You will not yet, yeah, Dusty, you will not. You know. You know some people it's like the old Groucho Marx line, which is I have principles and if you don't like them, I have others. Not Dusty.

Producer. Dusty is one of those very principled individuals you're not. He doesn't compromise on things that he holds a value, and he takes his beer seriously like most of us do. But not all of us. Insist on having proper glass war. Some of us can drink. In fact, he didn't even care about proper glasswar. But it's got to be glass. This is after we left the beer festival. This is about eleven thirty at night.

We've had a plenty of beers. I didn't care what glass I was drinking out of it, as long as I was drinking Pliny or blind pig. I didn't care. Love and producer dust a great guy, good people. All right, let's see this. Not you hold my beer and watch this brought to you by the ring meld of ten Hacen Insurance grew where they'll cover you for just about everything. They accept this. You gotta love live radio. I don't like how how did that creep get out of our way?

Don't give him any more airtime? When hey, yeah, James Sounder, James Watt the brew Dog. Okay, all right, let's talk about some thieves here. So some beer thieves are jerks, but some are kind of chill. But after being cornered, how are you going to be chill? In this case? Okay, so we're giving Florida the week off. A man in Oklahoma. A man in Oklahoma's names Jose Silvio wanted to be I hope not, but he wanted to be a early Sunday morning. But guess

what, he didn't want to pay for it. Did not want to pay for it. He wanted a beer, but didn't want to pay for it. He's one of those guys where the best beer is a free beer pretty much, That's what he says. And so he goes into a convenience store and he used a pipe to smash the doors of two coolers, stole beer, and then drove off in a land rover. The ployee Jose with the lead pipe in the beer store. Yes, it's like clue, I got it. Employees, of course called the cops, but he got away.

A few hours later, Jose crashes land rover through the front of the grocery store. It's unclear whether the accident was intentional or if he was drunk, but either way, he realized that uh yeah, he was done. He was done, so he cracked open a beer and chatted with a few of the witnesses while the police were on their way. When they got there, they arrested Jose for felony, vandalism, and larceny, along with other pending charges. So what happens Wait a minute, Hold on a second. I

just want to make sure I understand. He was driving a land Rover. Yeah, and he was thirsty, but he didn't want to pay for it. M mmmm. So he takes a lead pipe which you just which apparently is just sitting in the front seat of a land rover or maybe just gets all the beer and then drives and then crashes and he's like, yeah, I guess I've enough. I'm waving the white flag, come get me.

Yeah, he got away, He got away. And then yeah, later on that evening he crashed into a grocery store and then you know, it's like, I guess I'm I'm done and just starting time to go to jail. It's unclear whether or not he offered one of those witnesses a beard, but go with me, But he doesn't say what kind of a beer he stole either, But yeah, beer thie cracked open a brew and chatted with some witnesses while he waited for police to arrive to arrest him. That usually

hold my beer. And watched this, which is brought to you by our friends over at Renauld the tenake An insurance group, where they'll probably ensure you for that nice land Rover, But if you stole it to steal beer, probably not the case. That's your hold my beer and watched this. See give you the week off there, Florida. But uh, Oklahoma, what's going on up there? All right, we are going to take a break. Coming up, I'm gonna crack a beer and then I'm gonna tell you

the latest gimmick Miller lights coming out with him. We're gonna see if we can get our hands on it. And uh, we'll talk about Colorado brewers coming together like Voltron. All this is so much more. We'll be right back. Craft beer. It's not alcoholism, it's a hobby. This is what's on tap radio. If you're here in West Michigan and you have insurance needs, why not support somebody who supports us ring all the ten Hacen insurance

reach out to our buddy John Klunder. That's ringing all the ten Hacen Insurance RTI, Grand Rapids dot Com right feeling festive here, I'm back coming up here in a few minutes. I'm gonna discuss another light's latest gimmick. Every every time about this at the time of year reading it. Yeah, they come out with a a new gimmick and we're gonna try to see if we get our hands on it. We are, oh for what ten everything?

We're oh for everything, dude, I mean seriously, every time they come out with one of these, and you know what the stupid thing is. This is the dumb thing is we say we're going to stop because we're actually giving Miller Lite lots of free advertising. And we beat them up over and over again, and they're probably they're in the marketing department and they're sitting there and they're listening to their show because they listen and they're going, we got

them again. They say, they're not gonna mention us. And all we have to do is keep coming up with these gimmicks which we never release. We're gonna talk about that, talk about that, James. It's haid for me to crack a beer so thirsty we're empty you're empty. I'm out of my Yellow Rose. They smash India pale Ale Loan Pint Brewing Company that I brought to the table Magnolia, Texas at six point eight percent alcohol it by volume. But I'm going to go ahead and double that one, Chad,

I'm gonna double that one. I knew it. I knew it, So I'm going to do it to bring the newly released Double Yellow Rose Imperial India pale Al double I PA. Get it, Imperial India Palol double I PA. So I'm going crack this. I'm just gonna say this right now. Nobody cares. Shut up, James, just go away. Nobody cares shut up your dumb you're stew. I'm a little upset. This is the second release of this beer, and I love double I Pas and I still have

none, Blake Trevor. Yeah, I'm giving you name drops here at Loan Pint Brewery. Still no double Yellow Rose for this guy. I'm a little upset. Nobody cares, James shut up. You know what's scary about this beer. It doesn't drink like here, James. We have to hold him back pretty soon. It doesn't drink like a ten percenter I hate you right now so much. I hate you again. This is the double Yellow Rose

India Pallel from Company. I kicked it off the opening segment, brought the table with the India pal Al, and now I'm doubling it with the double yellow Rose India pall from Right now, Fire Marshal Matt is losing his mind. Also, our friends over at Superior Pass Control. Uh, they're They're not the real big i PA fans over there. They like the they like the sessionable Brownails Ambers Stouts. Yeah, I can get down with that. Is that nature and they and they, they gave us a story here that

we're going to talk about here in a second. But I'm sorry to do this to you guys, but I want to thank a friend of the show listener, somebody who's on the tour bus down at the Brewmaster's Craft Beer Festival on Galveston Island, Wordy Thompson. I want to thank him. He's working in the beer industry with a distributor, and when I was in Houston, he hooked me up with this from Turning Point Beer. This is the d

D H O A KC. The Oak Age double dry hopped Cama Citra Oak aged India pale ale with craps and needs more names and adjectives and things like this. Whoa, that thing exploded here. I don't know what the ABV is because I'm really excited about trying this, but I'm gonna go ahead and I'm gonna put Harbor Light bill on the spot. I just poured that form pale in color. But what do you smell there on that bill? There?

It is because it's a citra hop. In fact, it's a D d H double dry opped Citrah. This one comes at seven point four and and it's aged on oak. I don't know if you're getting that, but not in the nose, not at all. No, No, you're right. Just smells like a regular sitter ipa ah. But on the tongue, you do, yeah, you can taste it. Yep. So turning point beer. This is out of Bedford, Texas and nice beer. I think we're gonna probably crush through that. I think we also have some tantric beer

we're gonna open up on the show before the end. But uh, James, I don't know if I did mention? Did mention the Superior pest Control They send us stories and you know the holidays stories were a little light, you know, but they did not disappoint No, because they didn't. I wait for this story every single year. I'm like, what it's going to be the latest gimmick Miller Like comes out with for the holidays, And here we are. I got the story in my inbox, and boy, if

you can get your hands on this, I would take this one. Now. Let me ask you or anybody out there, Bill, Chad, do y'all know anybody that collects nutcrackers? I don't know any made that collects them, but I mean we have in our house. I think we have two just because we liked them. One was a gift in one we liked. But we don't collect them. No, I've met a little creepies creepy clown

right, just use the little metal ones. I don't. I don't collect them either, But I've met some folks in my in my life that collect nutcrackers. However I am not. But if you are one of those collectors, you might want to listen to this because Miller Lite is now selling a new ready for this one beer cracker for the Holidays that opens bottles and cans. You heard that right, A beer cracker for the holidays that opens up

bottles and cans. I think the bottle opener, well, the mouth, the mouth is a bottle opener, and if you take off the hat, you can slide the brim under the tab and crack a beer can. Pretty nifty, and they're selling there. Also there beer dements. Again we try to get our hands on. These are the beer ornaments which don't exist. Christmas tree ornaments a double as beer koozies, but they didn't. They did not bring the tree keg stands back that they also sold last year that they

sold out. That's the Christmas tree stand ex exists. That's a trick, that Christmas tree stand that fits a keg underneath it, which we try to get our hands on that we couldn't get. But the new beer Cracker hits Miller Lights merch website. Not gonna plug the website and it's going for thirty dollars. It's not because you can't buy it and it doesn't exist. It's only about already sold out, but it didn't sell out because it was never

there to begin with. It's only available through December, but it could sell out ever available. But you do have to be twenty one years or older to buy this. No, you don't because it doesn't exist. So again, beer ornaments just empty light middle light beer cans. That's a redneck Christmas tree right there is just you just take empty beer cans and hang them up on the tree. We're gonna save them the ornaments this year. We don't

have to worry about breaking them. In fact, every one of these ornaments in Michigan cost a dime because you know, yeah, the recycle deposit. But no, the beer ornaments. You could there's like a little ball that you put beer in that you can also sip from. You hang from your tree. We try to go to the right site. I remember that you drink, you drink Miller light out of your Christmas ornament and then when you're done, you don't put it in a dishwasher. You just hang it back

on the tree. Yeah, I mean, that's all you do, and just put it back up there. It'll be fine. As long as you didn't get a real tree and bring a squirrel in the house, it's fine. There's never a problem with that except it didn't exist. And by the way, James, I want to bring this one up back, but pre COVID. When we were in studio, we were hanging out with Johnny Hemburger. Oh yes, oh yeah, geek therapy radio. Good people, geek

therapy radio. He even brought he gave us this story before Superior Past control of West Michigan was sending us stories like this. Johnny Hemberger Burglar was geek therapy radio. And uh, he said, do you guys see this. There's a Miller light can just in time for Christmas. That's also a Bluetooth speaker that plays Christmas carols. Yeah. I was like, what it's like? Yeah, so it was. So it was a it was a can of beer. It looked just like a cannon beer, but it was actually

a speaker. And of course we said, Hamburglar, if you can get one, just get it and let us borrow it for the show because we want to talk about it. Of course, he tried to get it and couldn't get it. Why it doesn't exist, Well, if you're none these things exist. Is selling a beer cracker that opens bottles in Kansas holiday season and you can go to the Merchu website for a limit of time and buy

it for thirty dollars. It's available through December, and if you get your hands on it, send us a picture at What's on tap Radio at gmail dot com or at what's on Taprago, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Because we have yet to see anyone anyone, send anyone's who's purchased one of these items. Yeah, send us that photo next to your photoshop if you sit next to a unicorn, because it's all bull crap. There is no way these things exist. One time I dig it a listener send us a

picture of Miller like charcoal. I was like, yeah, it doesn't really count though, that's just his Miller like charcoal. No, we're talking about actual like beer ornaments and beer crackers and beer Christmas tree. I call bs on that that was photoshopped as well. All of its bull crap. All right, you light if you're listening, which we know you are, and laughing, screw you man. You we can never buy this stuff. I'm gonna try to get my hands try, all right, we gotta take a

break. We gotta take a break. Still to come. Colorado brewers joining forces like Fultron will explain why it's what's on Taprido hanging with us, We'll right back. Beer has hops hops or plants. Plants make salad, So beer is salad. Yeah, What's on Tap Radio? James and Chad talking about beer. All right, still a lot to get to you on this episode of What's on Tap Radio? So I got some I got some news

here. I went to the website during the break to try to get my hands on this beer Cracker Miller Light's latest gimmick that they come out with during the holidays. And you're gonna be surprised, Chad Bill, You're gonna be surprised as well. Sold out never existed, sold out, that's what you meant to say. Yeah, never sold out. You know what wasn't sold

out? Though. I got to tell you this so because I have another story that's not on the one sheet, and it was sent to us by our friends at Superior Past Control West, Michigan because they here in Michigan. You know, you're either go green, go blue, or go home because you're a trader. Okay, I mean that's just really what it is. Wow, that's that Chad Pilby. By the way, Hey, I'm just telling you how it is. You're either a Michigan fan, you're a Spartan

fan, or you're a trader. I got this story. I want to talk about Mint, but I want to bring something up that I mentioned earlier in the show when I mentioned what beer you're gonna bring? What I pa you're going to bring? And I think I said the Kentucky Bourbon County out

from Three Floyd's or something like that was joking around. So when I went to the Michigan State Spartan, Penn State and the Lion game at Ford Field, the marketing department, let's just say, maybe not the biggest of beer fans and those who were doing the merchandising, because they had a separate little kiosk set up where they were selling Imperial Stout and it was the featured beer

of the game, and it was Founders Kentucky Brand County Stout. And I'm like, wait a minute, I think you crossed the streams there because it was Kentucky Bourbon County style. That's what it was, Kentucky Bourbon County Stout. I'm like, wait a minute, Bourbon County Stout is Goose Island. Founders is KBS, which is Kentucky Breakfast Stout. You cross the streams.

And so they basically in the building they had both beers at one point in time, but they got the name wrong and it was a big running joke. So it was all over social media on Michigan craft beer enthusiasts. We were having a good laugh about it. We did not have a good laugh about the outcome of the game if you're a Spartan fan. But speaking of the Big Game again, I mentioned I was on social media from ford Field and I was also on social media from the Big House in ann Arburg.

I got to go see both games, the Michigan Ohio State game. And again I want to thank our friends with Spirit Pest Control West Michigan for sending this over. And this comes to us courtesy of the Columbus Dispatch newspaper. I want to plug them because this is pretty funny. James. You may not like this all right, Saucy, Yeah, you make it a little

upset here. Saucy Brewworks decided to troll the University of Michigan. They're big, big Ohio State Buckeye fans and University of Michigan and Jim Harbaugh and in the news for stealing signs, and so they decided to troll the University Michigan, making an amazing blue Saucy brew Works Stealing Signs Hazy Ipa with the likeness of Jim Harbaugh on the can. It's a six point five percent Hazy Ipa and it's kind of a rebrand of a beer that they released once before.

Because to start the twenty twenty baseball season, they also made a Stealing Signs Hazy Ipa in honor of the Houston Astros in an orange and blue kid. I remember that story. We talked about it, and so the Saucy brew Works getting a little saucy trolling the University of Michigan. They released it in a very very very limited release before the Ohio State game. But this is

the second release of their Stealing Signs series. They're just waiting for the next group of cheaters to come out and they'll re release it, but first released after the Houston Astros were busted for bang the trash can. Sorry, yeah, I know, I know, I remember that story. We talked about that. Good for them. I hope they make a million. I'm sorry, James, I got James a little upset. I hope they make a million dollars with that. I hope they know. You don't you want to

say, screw them is what you want to say. Yeah, but if I got my hands on the beer, I'd probably drink it. Yeah you would, all right, anyway, So Saucy brew Works, that's what they did to kind of troll. All right. Let's talk about Vultron. Remember that amazing cartoon from the eighties, great cartoon. If you're not old enough to know what Vultron was. After the show, After the show, after you're done listening, stop what you're doing. Go to YouTube. Yeah Voltron.

Yeah, they have a lot of the episodes on YouTube. But let's talk about it. You know, the craft beer industry is one of one of the things I love about it. It's the spirit of collaboration in Carmarawerie, all right, and now that's taking full shape right now in Colorado. So what's happening is this tightening economy has increased competition and are leading Colorado brewers to form partnerships to cut costs to stay open. So now what's happening is

there's a dry dock. The state's eighth largest independent beer maker is moving most of it's brewing and packaging to Great Divide in Denver. So they're moving their operations to Great Divide, which was I think they have two locations. They had that big location, then they had that satellite location. Well yeah, Great Divide has they have a tap room, they have a brew house and a brewery, and then they also have a barrel They have the barrel house.

Right, that's right, that's right, which we've been a few times. Fun place. A barrel house tour was amazing. Yeah, it was ridiculous. Primitive Beer, which specializes in barrel h sours and wild aals, is closing its Long Mounted brewery and moving its operations to New Image in wheat Ridge. So before yeah, before I made the so where are all these places? There are a lot of suburbs there within an hour or less or so of downtown Denver, Longmont, home of the original if I remember correctly,

that's the home of the original Oscar Blues. Correct. Oh, yes, I've been to that brewery. It's a huge brewery and one of the most inmpressive canning lines I've ever seen. But why they're doing this is because the economy is just being really difficult on all these breweries, and so what they decided to do was just join forces to survive these tough times, and that's what the brewery industry is all about, is you know, collaborating and

coming together and just to stay afloat. And so now you have all these breweries that are kind of teaming up that they're competitors, but at the end of the day, they're you know, collaborating to just stay open because you know, if we seems like every week we talk about another brewery closing their doors, and here they are teaming up, like Voltron to to you know, stay open. Also says that Divides also going to assisted dry docks sales

and marketing, and both companies will remain separate entity. So they will you know, be separate businesses but just on the same grounds, just operating. And the arrangement will benefit Great Divide too, because the brewery also explained Great Device also experiencing cutbacks and reshuffling their regional brewers being pinched by even larger and more efficient operations in the local neighborhood breweries. So these local neighborhood breweries,

yeah, like Chad said, they're all over the place. What Rhino has a you know, many great breweries, but I feel like, what was that one that we liked in Rhino that closed. Was it Barrels? What was that one? That barrels brewery? Yes? And in fact, every time I mentioned barrels to somebody and it was b a r r ls,

it was. It was a weird spelling on it. I said, just go there because I think three quarters of their beers were aged in barrels and just weird burials, but not weird for the sake of being weird, but just things you wouldn't think of doing, absolutely delicious stuff. Yeah, and then they went out of business sadly. Then one of the breweries, which we won't mention, which both James and I hated, is still in business. Oh it's a smaller brewery. We won't mention it. But it was

like you remember that brewery. It's like yeah, In fact, we both went there independently. Before we got there and we went, we were like, yikes, They're like they're still open, Like yep, I'm gonna say which one it was. You know what, We're good for them, and I hope they make a million dollars with that idea. But it's just it's cool to see them collaborating. But this doesn't work all the time because uh, we talked about four Collins. They had funk Works, and they had

it a long year. I think like it was four year partnership with Brooklyn Brewery that they ended in twenty twenty one. And Witson Brewing closed its tap room in twenty seventeen and moved into Denver Brewing Strange Craft here but later went out of business. So we'll see if this this business plan works. Their dry dock is going to be moving into Great Divide and then Primitive Beer, which specializes in barreled age stuff. It's going to be moving into New Image

and Wheat Ridge. So I hope they do stay afloat. But it's just they're formed together like Voltron to stay afloat, Colorado brewers joining forces to survive tough beer times, which is happening. It is tough beer times out there. In fact, even the industry has been reporting. Just have some cursory numbers here. I just I would share because the Thanksgiving holiday known for excessive

drinking. Why because well you have to hang out with family and pretend to like each other, and well, blackout Wednesday is the unofficial moniker given to the day before Thanksgiving and then Drinksgiving is well, the beer drinking you do on Thanksgiving blackout Wednesday. Beer drinking volume down two point five percent from last year, which they're actually counting drinks giving as well in this total, but

also saying that this is still down the second year. It's down, but far less drop than what it was last year, when last year it dropped seventeen percent. So people still drinking less on drinks giving, either they like their family more or they're cutting back on drinking. Oh man, okay, we gotta take a break. Coming on in the last segments, speaking of the industry women, how they can save the beer industry. We're gonna talk

about that all this and so they're gonna do it. They're gonna they're doing it. All this is so much more coming up in the last segment, hanging with us one more. We'll be right back. Craft beer. It's not alcoholism, it's a hobby. This is what's on Tap Radio. Tantrik Brewing Company, located in Alegant, Michigan, proud sponsors What's on Tap Radio

and located right here in my backyard. Chad Pilbeum, the beer logic guy, go in there and ask for free what's on tap High five and check out the amazing beers Tantic Brewing Tantic Brewing dot com Tantic Brewing dot com. All right, welcome to What's on Tap Radio. Last segment for the week, which, by the way, it's fifteen minutes past the hour. Do you know where your kids are? Remember that? Remember that? Psa that Oh my gosh, that's right. It's ten thirty pm on Friday night.

Do you know who your children are? Like? What? Wait, dad, leave in the back of a hot car? No? No, just go check. Actually that was before we actually worried about leaving kids in the back car. That didn't happen. Then. I don't know what happened to us as parents. You know, it's like, all of a sudden, we started leaving kids in cars and then it's a terrible thing. But before that, we used to say, do you know where your kids are? We're like, no, why would we need to know where our kids are?

Aren't they upstairs? And you go check before cell phones and everything else, it's like, oh wait, you open the door and you realize they snuck out. Does that make you a bad parent? No? Absolutely yes it does. You're a lousy parent. This last segment, Bill's like shut Bill's over ears like shut up. No, you're not a bad parent. His kids snuck out. I guarantee it. That's so what it was. That's why Bill's bringing that up. Anyway. Last segment it once on Tap

Radio for the Week, brought to you by Tantrik Brewing Company. Yeah, where I'm gonna say this Harbor Light Bill, harbor Light Brewing Company, South Aven, Michigan and uh Oakstown Brewery out of Granville, Michigan swings by sees our friends over at Tantrick. A little Christmas present that they packaged up.

They did a nice little four pack of their barrel aged beers. This one one of my favorite new artwork on the on the bottle rather, it's a little little saucy check it out, White Russian in a flannel speedo and yeah it's a flannel speedo with a bow right on the well. Well just say there's a bow there. And we're gonna go ahead on the espedo and we're gonna open this up. And that's how we're gonna sign off the show here today with old Bill and I. We're gonna ride out in the sunset with

a white Rushian and a flannel speedo. I'm not sure how I feel I'm saying that like that, but that's what we're doing. We want to thank our friends at Tantric Brewing Company for putting out great beers and supporting this fine program. We have a couple of stories to get to before we get out of here. We've been teasing this how women are gonna save the beer industry, and I'm liking this story a lot and chat I love this story.

I absolutely love the story. When I first started reading some of the statistics and who was putting it out, I was a little skeptical that this was just going to be like just kind of an angry, hardcore rage against male mass, toxic masculinity or anything like. Not at all. This is just logic, it's common sense. It's great for society. It brings people together,

and when you hear this, I think it Mark my words. Today, we're gonna all start shifting because this is great because more frequently we go into the beer store and we see these bold displays in the craft beer section, of brightly colored cans and geometric patterns, inviting customers to it, where before it used to be edgy, raw, even arrogant. Oh what am I saying? Oh yeah, oh yeah, very masculine and very aggressive marketing, but it's much more inviting. Now, where is this coming from.

Well, it's coming from women, and it may very well save the craft beer industry. Why because craft beer industry is struggling right now. We've been talking about this for months, about brewery's closing. We've been talking about this for months, about how the industry needs to evolve, to adapt, to figure out how to overcome some of the challenges. Women may be the solution.

They are pay attention closely, folks, because if you go on untapped and you start looking at what the most popular beers are by men, it is the beers that are high in ABV. However, if you go and look at the beers that are selling, it is the beers that are lower in ABV and fruit forward, hot tip ladies and gentlemen. That is what the ladies are buying. But it's not just ladies, it's men too. In other words, the ladies are forward thinking and driving the industry because that

is their preferred beer of choice. Now, I am stereotyping a little bit, but this is a generalization that is generated by women research. A couple of women who open to brewer up in Brooklyn. This is the Talia Brewery. They have discovered that seventy percent of their clientele are women. And guess what, ladies and gentlemen. Where women go to drink, men will follow.

Yes, and it just so happens that they are doing more fruit forward beers, which happen to be some of the more popular beer styles right now, not necessarily amongst men who are going for the high ABV barrel age this, but also not just fruit flavored and fruit forward, but also lower ABV.

So wait a minute. So the beers that are driving the industry most profitable, that are the most popular, that they're selling the most are also the most profitable and most popular amongst women in tap rooms, which are now dominated seventy percent by women. Oh and now the industry is saying not we used to talk about how women would go shopping and they would buy all the purchases, and they'd buy all the beer, and they come home with the

Schlitz for their man. Not anymore. Women have been drinking and consuming beer all along, but they've never been allured and drawn to the masculine tropes and advertising. That's been in the craft beer aisle. Now they are drawn to some of the more inviting advertising, and they're spending more money at the beer store. And by twenty twenty eight, it is estimated that women will control three quarters of the discretionary spending of all households. Hello, ladies and gentlemen,

pay attention. This is no longer a man's world. I'm telling you, it's a man's world. No, it's not, ladies. Not only that, there are more women who go to college, so women are becoming, well becoming. They are more educated, so they're smart than us. Okay, they are more educated. There they control more of the discretionary spending. And ladies gather more often than men in groups in social settings, and they drink and they don't just drink wine. Ladies and gentlemen. Guys aren't

doing this as often as ladies are. And tap rooms are filling up with more women, so they control more spending. They're more educated, they're making more money, they're they're continuing to grow and close the gap on those types of things. There are more women in the world than there are men. There are more women drinkers now than men drinkers. What, yes, ladies, drink more than men. All of these things combine with a change in

marketing that supports this. If you are branding yourself in a way that is inviting to women, you will pull the rest of the demographic, so says this guy, and this research that was done by Talia Brewing Company out of Brooklyn, which is supported by pretty much every industry report in every industry standard. And also the guy sitting across from me who owns up two breweries and two tap rooms is like, yes, yes, this all makes perfect sense.

Ladies and gentlemen. Women will save craft beer. And I thank them for it because I like what I drink. And I thank the ladies for joining us and leading the cause. And Chad, if you don't think this is true any time of the year, look at the bachelorette parties that go to wineries, breweries, distilleries, any type of craft beverage places. The parties are bigger, better, they spend more, and they are more inviting than most of the bachelor parties. It's the bachelorette's huge. That's who we're

that's that's who we're saluting this week. So cheers to all those women out there that you're right, I go to these breweries, I see them. They're there with all their friends. I see them at the breweries. That's awesome stuff, are yep, I've seen it plenty of times. All right, we got to put a bow on the show. Oh my gosh. Oh we were out of time. But I do want to thank uh Bill

for hanging out and contributing as always bringing some beer. But I also want to thank Chad for uh you know, kicking ass, taking names, but also our our sponsors. I do something for the show what it is, but that I guess sometimes let's Tantric Brewing, Superior pest Control, Biero logic, conference events, we don't have tenake, an insurance group, the Backyard

Grill, and of course sponsoring our podcast cast branding. So for mister Bill Logie, Chap Hill Beam, I am bery good jameson saying thanks for checking out what's on tap Rio. We hope you enjoyed it, and we hope that you enjoyed us. For another actually back Redeo show next week. We'll see you then, folks. Cheers
