I love craft beer. I love different people's beer. It's a first favorite. Cheers two old US beer geeks and those new to the craft. What's on Tap high five? This is What's on Tap Radio beer and the culture that flows with it. Piers beer Guru James Simpson and Beer's Chat

Pillbeam and see there it is there there, it is. It's magic chat, It's magic. I believe in it. I can be just chicked off of the world, just mad and all of a sudden, the mice you go hot and it just clicks like a like a switch and I'm just like, let's go. All that stress just melts away. Baby. I don't know. I think James has just ha be that he figured out that the price of a six pack is cheaper than therapy, and so he is happy to be on the air and cracking open a beer because all that stress and all those all those problems that we're building up, James just they're

gonna they're just melting. Get into it later in the program. But I miss a lot of the production meeting because I was on the phone with this repair company and they're giving me the runaround right now and I'm just furious. But all of a sudden, you know, I'm sitting here in the interest playing and I'm like, I want to cuss these people out, But then all of a sudden, the mice go hide. I'm like, oh my

god, I feel like, let's do a thing. So well, there's a relationship here because in Houston it's hot, kind of like the mice and the stress is like everything in Houston it's melting. Yeah, you know, everything in Houston is melting. Well, it's like that across the country. I mean, it's the dog days of summer. August is usually the time of the year where it's just people are just so like, oh, can we just bring the fall? Can we bring the college football back? Can

we bring the NFL back? We're almost there, but you know it's time just to just take a breather and crack some beers. And that's exactly what we're going to do. Welcome to the show. I am Berger, James Sipson, that is Beer Logic, Chad Hill Beaman. For the next two hours, we are going to entertain you. But without these fine sponsors, we wouldn't be here. And that being Tantrick Brewing Superior pest control, beologic conference events. We know a Tenaked insurance Group v Backyard Grill, and a

corresponsoring our podcast which is available everywhere. Cast branding in that first second is brought to the table. We have rules and rules and rules, but rule number one is we don't not crack beers until the mics are hot. And ladies and gentlemen, like I just said, it's like a flip of a switch where all the stress went away the mics are hot. Let's do a thing, Chad, brought to you by the Backyard Grill, oh byg Man, located on the northwest side of Houston. They've got over one hundred beers,

one hundred different menu items. And yeah, if you don't feel like cooking because it's two dang hot head over there, get yourself some ribs and some beer and some burgers. And they got it all dialed in places an institution on the northwest side of Houston. This is gonna tight everything together. You just said you don't feel like cooking because it's hot. I got a story to tell you coming up later in this show where it led me to

make a phone call to the repair company. But let's crack some beer's Chad, let's do a thing. Who's growing first? Man? You orm you aren't. You know what I can't. I can't get in your way. Son, I gotta get I gotta step back. You're the one with all the stress, You're the one on the phone with repair company. But I feel you're the one. I feel good all of a sudden, belt I'm

not gonna screw it up. I'm not gonna You're on a roll. Just open your dang beer, go go go, all right, I am bringing a beer from our friends over on the east side of the state of Texas, our friends from Louisiana, and I am bringing a beer from Fogborg Brewing Company that Suma IPA with Satsuma. And this is a goal medal winner, won a medal at the twenty twenty two World Beer Cup and the best specialty IPA in the United States. So I'm going and crack this and then again,

this is the Datsuma IPA with Satsuma fall Borg Brewing Company. And I'm gonna go ahead and pour this into my What's on Tap radio cast breading glass also known as the water glass w O t R. And you can see that the nice lacying on the on the glass. Good head, retention, nice bubbles. That is orange right there. We don't they don't call them oranges in Louisiana. It's called satsuma. All right. Oh wow, look at that big brain on James going out throwing out a regional dialect. You

know what this reminds me of? I don't. This reminds me of when I was a child peeling those satsumas on my mimos front porch. Oh memo, Yeah, yeah, that brings back memories. So the warm memories of Grandma. Yeah, this is I take. I get light, citrus bursting fresh Louisiana Statsuma's balanced with oh, with a heavy dose of hops. And this comes to you at seven point two percent alcohol by volume. And that

is how I'm kicking things off with the dat Suma. Satsuma India pale Ale fall Board Brewing Company, a gold medal winner from the twenty twenty two World Beer Cup. So alright, that's how you slid choice salid way to kick things off there. Now, James, feeling like he just peeled an orange, is sitting there smelling his fingers. Okay, it's a great and you know you don't want to get rid of It's like, oh, it just takes you back to those childhood days. Al Right, Well, that's a

bottle being cracked up. That's a weird sound. Yeahs a big beer in bottles now, that's right. Well, with all of this talk about the hot weather. I don't know about you, but when I think about hot weather and the dog days of summer, first thing that comes to mind october Fest beers. That's right. We already broke the rule before late. Oh no, James, I'm no see too late. It's already open for the record of thee not me. I stick to my traditions. Yeah, and

I don't. I don't have that tradition. I also break the rough. I'm like, I'm like a high school kid in class told not to get get on a cell phone. I'm gonna go ahead and drink a beer before the show. And I'm gonna open up in october Fest before Labor Day. Ladies and gentlemen from Great Lakes Brewing Company, and they are located in Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland. They are good Brewery, Good Brewery. This is their version of the Mars and Style lagger. October Fest coming in at a

hefty six point five percent. Why do I say hefty six point five Well, it's because traditional Mars and Octoberfest not usually in that upper or mid six range, a little bit less. But look at the color on this brilliantly clear. I mean, this is just beautiful. I know, I know you're teasing slightly off white Head at this point, you're just teasing me. Oh, I took a sip of that. We will talk about that little toffee note after we get back. But first thing, James, tell everybody

what we have on tap. What are we gonna talk about. We're gonna talk about did Kid Rock commit treason? That is, well, it's gonna be discussed on this week's episode of What's on Tap Radio. But we'll talk plenty more about these beers that we're consuming and all. This is so much more, including the official What's on Tap Radio Fun Factor of the week, which is coming right up. We'll be right back. Believe in something they say, we believe. We'll have another beer. This is What's on Tap

Radio. Back to James and Chad, Hey, you know it doesn't matter what kind of beer you drink. Do you like it ice cold? Do you like it's served cellar temperature. Do you like it served in a fancy glass or just drinking it from a long neck model. It doesn't matter because everybody who drinks beer loves great food and you're gonna find both at the Backyard Grill, located on the northwest side of Houston, Texas, at the corner

of Weston Jones Road and proud sponsors What's on Tap Radio. It's Chad Piling, the beerlogic guy here telling you to get out there and support those who support us. And when you go in there, hey, like I said, it doesn't matter what kind of beer you like. They've got it ice cold beer right here. Or check out their cellared beer menu. Oh yeah, ask for the special stuff. They got a secret stash forty eight taps

everything you want in a hundred different food items at the Backyard Grill. Check out their beer bed, sign up for their newsletter, and find out more at the Backyard Grill dot com. That's the Backyard Grill dot Com. Chad, I just want to let you know that everything on my end is good as far as my studio is concerned. A little behind the scenes, we had some technical difficulties on the last episode, but we didn't talk about it,

but Chad was giving me a beating. But hey, all good, all good, right now, welcome back to What's on Tap Radio where all as well. It's studios on the West side of Houston and Katie, Texas, and uh yeah, everything's good here in Algan, Michigan. Just beer, just hot man. But hey we got this cold beers keeping us nice and cool. In the first segment, I want to give him a plug one more time. It's a broad table sponsored by the Backyard Grill and uh,

I kicked it off with the fog War brewing Datsuma. I pa with satsuma and it's really really tasty. Of course it did win a World Beer Cup and uh, let me pull this up to us. All right, there we go, There we go, There we go. So it is at seven point one or seven point two percent alcohol by volume, and and yeah it's just light citrus bursts of fresh Louisiana satsumas balanced with a heavy dose of hops. And I'm a fan. I know you are. I saw

it. You were, like you said, reminds you of Memo appeeling oranges. But now you remember those days when sitting on the old porch and peeling hours and hours of those satsumas just takes you back to those simpler times. I never knew that a satsuma was just an orange about fifteen minutes ago before I started the show. Nice the extensive show prep that James does. Well,

I told you I was on the phone on the phone. I know I was here on the phone complaining about your whatever it is that you'll tell you. So I'm gonna get into that here in a second. Chad, what's the beer that you brought the October Because I know breaking James, but that's my rule. That's not Chad's rule. He says everything he's magically better. And then Chad cracks open in October Fest Marson style Loger from Great Lakes

Brewing Company at six point five percent. A couple of things about this beer. First of all, absolutely fan freaking tasks. Isn't oh no, no, no no. I would be like, oh my goodness, I want more of this. Okay. You know how some October fests they they kind of missed the mark, or they're a little too subtle, or they're just you know, there's a little off, just they're not that perfect balance of sweetness and dryness and and and chew your body and mouth feel. This is

a beautiful beer. I mean, this is an excellent example other than the fact that it is a little bit warmer, it is a six and a half percent a little bit higher on that. But if you were blindfolded and you tasted this, there would be no question you would take one sip. I mean, you could be a novice and you were like, but that's October Fest beer. Yeah, you're darn right it is. And tell me

what's the name of the brewery, Great Lakes Brewing Company? Great? Okay, I mean Great Lakes always puts out great beer, right, yeah, I mean yeah, they're known the one that they're really known for, the Edmund Fitzgerald the Boat. Yeah, yep. So yeah, they are just a great brewery. They're kind of an institution, employee owned operation. I mean, they're it's it's it's a good brewer. They're independent, one of the best things to come out of Ohio, if not the best thing other

than Cedar Point. And I know I just offended somebody, but delicious stuff. That's what we've gotten. Sorry, James, I didn't mean to burst your bubble and you know drink this. But here's the problem, James. This is the thing you didn't realize because of how they're releasing beers. Now, okay, this beer is already three months old. Okay, so I have to drink it is I've seen it on the shelf since July, like right after July fourth. I'm totally kidding, it's not. Three fourth comes

around and here comes the october Fest beers. Oh my goodness, we gotta drink it now quick. And October Overfest hasn't even started yet. Yes, but we must drink all the Octoberfest So but hey, I am excited. I'm a few weeks away from bringing all month of September and October bringing october Fest beers because it is my favorite style. But I disciplined myself, so I'm just kind of finishing off my summer beers to make room for all those

october Fest beers I'm consuming the next few weeks. So true story. Somebody caught me on this. I want to go ahead and share this because people. Some people ask, now that you've moved to Michigan, do you still drink heavy beers for your lawnmower beer? So I mowed the lawn on the weekend, got got done, went out to the lake because it was hot

and I was sweating. I grabbed myself a sixteen ounce can of Lua Brewing Imperial Coconuts stout, and I went and sat in the middle of the lake, and I got a sunburn, and I was just I was sipping on I thought I was on an island kid though. The coconut, I don't know man the stout though, Oh yeah, that's my lawnmower beer. Odd, but hey to each of their own. Oh, I want to say congratulations to all the parents out there that had sent their kids back to school.

I've seen many of my friends that have been enjoying happy hour while their kids are at school now now that they're not trying to keep their kids busy.

But since school is now in session now, it's really our obligation to do this chat now the official What's on Tap Radio Fun Factor the Week, brought to you by Who's ever checked Clear This week, even though we don't take time off to do these fun facts, we're giving education all year long, but we are welcoming back at large audience that has, you know, they take a little hiatus as a little sabbatical during the summer. You know

why they entertain their children. But now that the children are back to school, welcome back. Yeah, that's right. All right. So we are going to combine several fun facts and public service announcements and we're going to do a Ripley's Believe it or Not factor fiction all in one giant fun fact episode this week. So, ladies and gentlemen, we say all the time that we hear at What's on tap radio, give you two hours of beer for your ear. That's right. Ten years, ten years we've been doing this.

That's right, beer for your ear. And so I discovered while I was just doing some research for this week's fun Fact, I stumbled upon some information about scuba diving. And no, this is not drunk scuba diving, but when you scuba dive, apparently there are some shortcomings and some pitfalls that you need to worry about, including problems with your ear. Turns out, scuba divers have the ultimate solution to help prevent ear infections in any other problems

that come that are associated with scuba diving. It's a very common problem because of the ascent and decent. It's a huge issue and they have a homemade remedy that is called ear beer. Yes, you heard that correct, ear beer. It is a homemade remedy to prevent ear infections. And what it is is it's a fifty fifty of alcohol and white vinegar and so it's a

homemade concoction and you put it in. You put a couple of drops in and it prevents some of the common ear infection effects that are associated with scuba diving. I thought that was pretty cool. So I was like, I want to make sure that this isn't just fiction. So I looked up earber and sure enough, it's very common. And in the process of looking that up, I discovered a video on YouTube of a woman who claims to be

able to drink beer in her ear from a straw. What I pulled up the video and I watched it happen, and then, of course all of the MythBusters said, is it even possible to do it? So, ladies

and gentlemen, here are the facts. It turns out that there is an anatomical link between your ear and your throat called the austation two, and in order to get liquid from the ear into your throat, it is possible it would go through the estation too, but there would have to be a hole in your ear drum or the ear drum would have to be completely missing. So theoretically you could suck beer into your ear canal. It would go through the hole in the ear drum into the middle ear, and then through the

estation tube and down your throat. While it is theoretically possible, it is highly unlikely and listen up, ladies and gentlemen. Public service announcement, very very dangerous, ladies and gentlemen. The woman who in this video who appears to have done this did so without plugging her nose, which immediately raised concerns and people said, I don't think that would work because there's not enough counter

pressure. You would have to hold your nose to do it. But just so you know, if you were to do it, drawing alcohol into the middle of your ear could cause hearing loss. Also, it would be very painful to have alcohol there. Cold beer would cause immediate dizziness, and alcohol in your ear could cause an additional an ear infection. And upon further review, ladies and gentlemen, the video was a fake. So your official What's on Tap Radio fun Factor of the Week is it is possible to drink beer

in your ear, but it might kill you. No, you'll get get very sick or you could lose your hearing. That's your official What's on Tap Radio fun fact of the week. All right, good fun fact. I'm gonna try this in the break. See if it works. All right? Coming up? Did Kid Rock commit treason? We'll discuss right back. A real partner will make you feel loved, needed and sexy. Wait, it's beer beer already does that? What's on Tap Radio Continuous with James Simpson and

Chad Pillbeam. I'm telling you this show's magic. Hard to explain. Welcome back to What's on Tap Radio? Just dropping some fun facts and I did fact check Chad during the break. There is something called eater beer. There is there, really is. I was like, he's totally making this up. No, there is really something out there. It's even on the scuba diving like ficial dot org website. It is, I know. And I like how you said that, you know, it's like magic. And then

all of a sudden, totally unplanned. Again this I swear, just sometimes the show comes together like magic. I had a fun fact which I don't tell James in advance what it's gonna be about. No, nor do I tell him when the whole my beer and watch this? I do not know? And what what's the what's in the fun fact of the week a video that appears to show a magic trick of somebody drinking beer through a straw in their ear. Unfortunately, as I said, turns out it was a fake.

But I want to I want to stress this enough or again I can't. I can't stress this enough. I need to say this again. If you want to try this, don't, just don't. It is a bad idea and the only way you're gonna be able to drink beer in your ears if you have a hole in your ear drum. In that case, you may want to go see an audiologist or some of them specialist. You can't taste the beer when you drink it through your ear, So what's the point this is true? Yeah? Well right exactly, It's like, okay,

cool magic trick. You just basically screwed up your ear even more. You didn't get to taste the beer. And yeah, maybe I guess you got drunk, but you can't hear anything. No, Yeah, hey, I got a great buzz. I'm deaf now, but hey, good times. So I want to circle back to this story we're talking about earlier. How you said, hey, it's really hot out there, and so some people just didn't really want to be cooking because it's so hot. Well, let

me tell you why. I was on the phone with this repair company. So my wife is a cooksh I mean, she cooks and she caters, and she has this whole system down right. So the other day she's cooking this meal and this oven. We had one of these microwaves that's attached to the oven, and about about a month ago, our microwave went out, so we had a repair company come out and fixed the microwave. Well, the microwave was fixed, but now the oven doesn't really work very well.

So my wife is making these pork I like pork butts or whatever, and she's cooking it for like three hours on four hundred degrees or whatever it was, or maybe three I don't know. I don't know. All I know is she was cooking for three I'm glad she's the cook in the family and she knows the real recipe facts facts, Okay, And all of a sudden, up sitting here and I'm editing and the power and the whole house goes

out because the oven blew a fuse. And so I call this, I mean at the power store, and we've we figured out it was the oven that tripped the There he goes, she tripped a break. It tripped a breaker, right, I was gonna say, your house is a little more modern. So I called the repair company and I'm like, hey, you know, ever since you guys came out to fix the microwave, now like

the oven doesn't work and now they're giving us to run around. And so during this production meeting, I'm sitting here just like going back and forth with

this guy. And I'm not trying to get all Karen with this dude, but I'm just trying to explain to him, like, ever since he came out to fix the microwave, now the oven doesn't work and that blew a breaker, Like you shouldn't blow a breaker cooking in the oven, like what like what's gonna happen during Thanksgiving when we had to cook a turkey and over?

Yeah, And so I'm trying to explain this the guy and the guy who's like littre okay, okay, I mean whatever, I mean you know, so anyways, yeah, he was basically saying that, and I was, I basically just hung up on him, and I was furious, and I miss a lot of the production meeting, and I was, I was hot. I sat down and then the MIC's cracked and all of a sudden, it was just like everything went away. Everything went away. So I

feel better. But it just says, you know, people don't want to cook because it's so hot, so they're going out to restaurants, eating out more. And so we got this story sent to us, and I want to think superior pest Control for sending this story to us. The secrets are judging a good restaurant. Now, wait a minute, this is a show about beer. Yeah, well, guess what. When you go out to a restaurant, you want to have a great dining experience and you're gonna order

a beer, and beer happens to fall on this list. Well, of course it does, all right, So when you go out to a restaurant, what are the things that you look for? All right? What are the tried and true methods that actually judge a new restaurant or just any restaurant. And there's actually some interesting techniques and so apparently some people went online and they looked at some reviews and looked at the techniques that make a restaurant appealing.

And Chad, you tell me whether or not you agree with this list. All right, So, in no particular order, no particular order whatsoever, the menu comes into play. It can't be too big. It can't be too big. You don't want to like a book like now I hear people complain about the Cheesecake Factory. Now you go the Cheesecake Factory in the in the menu is like a book. I was gonna say, you need you need forty five minutes because it's like a novel. Yeah, so oh

oh you want the appetizers that's on page ten. Okay. So they don't really want to menu that's too big, or a menu that's too sticky, nothing like that, that menu, And it's just because they don't they don't wash them well or something, and it's maybe they someone spell coke on it or doctor pepper and it's just sticky. But they believe. They also believe in a physical menu and chat and I talked about at lenked on this show. A lot of these restaurants, you know, they're going touch list,

so it's all going QR codes yep. But people do still our old fashioned They want a sheet of paper, not just QR read on your phone. Yep. I look at the beer list and everybody like, yeah, our beer list is on untapped, and I'm like, yeah, I know, I get it. Well, cool thing is you go to the backyard Grill, you get all of it, you get QR code if you want, you can look at the beer list. You can go to untapped and you can look at or you can get a printed menu. That's what I like.

And they also have the screens at the Backyard Grill. So I'm like, we're catering to everybody. But I agree with this except for the list, for the idea that the menu can't be too big, and that's because if the menu is too small, people can say there's nothing done here. I want, well, I'm too big like Goldilocks in Three Bears. You don't want it too small, you don't want it too big, you just

want it just right right. If that menu sticky, dude, I've oh my god, I've totally had menus to hand it to me before and it's like there's like ketchup on it or mayo just disgusting. It just it grosses me out. By the way, always always take some hand sanitizer before you eat, after you touch that manu. All right again, we're talking about ways people judge restaurants. How about the service. I mean the service is pretty important, right, Look for servers who care? Do they have helpful

recommendations? Do they know you know if you need some recommendations. And this is where this this auctionaire thing comes in. People auction the food. Explain what the this auctioning thing because for somebody's never you know, worked in the restaurant, and these two tie hand in hand because sometimes you'll have a server who's just there to get your order as quick as possible and get out of the way. That's all they want to do. Turn right, I'm not

there to serve you. I'm not there to make a good experience. I'm there to get your order and get out of the way. Okay, I want to turn it as fast as I can. Well, sometimes when that happens, you are a little mismanaged, unorganized, and if somebody else brings out the food. You've seen that before, where the waitress or the waiter is taking your food order, but somebody else from the kitchen brings it out.

And when they bring it out and they don't know what food goes to which seat, they have to interrupt your conversation while you're sitting there, and all of a sudden, they're like an auctioneer. All right, who had the who had the fish? Who had the fish? All right? Who had the who had this burger? Okay? Who had that? And it's and it's a sign of being disorganized and that the kitchen doesn't communicate well with

the servers. And I don't know if I agree with that, because there have been plenty of times whenever, hey, you know what, I don't mind helping out the servers or the person bringing the food. It's like, no, that one's mine. Okay, cool, that one's mine. But if they start auctioneering the food at the table, all right? Who had this? Who had this? Who had this? Okay? Cool? Some

critics very harsh. They they'll downgrade you for that. So when you go out to a restaurant, again, we're talking about what people look for when they go out to a restaurant, the clientele. Do you walk in and look at the regulars to go okay, this can't be so bad, you know, looking at the you know you're profiling the regulars. But some people

they do. They go in there and they look and they look at the regulars and if they only have the regulars, yeah, that's the thing is if it's only the regulars, yeah, and there's just you know, not organic, that is a great way to drive away. Bit like regulars are great for business. And I mean again, go to BYG. You're gonna see regulars there all the time. But they have lots of seating, lots

of people. You come, people come in all the time. But if you are if the place is only regulars, it can get a little, uh, it can get a little intimidating when you walk in, yeah, because you feel like you don't belong right. Also, I mean this kind of goes hand in hand the cleanliness of the of the place. Is it the chair's clean? Are the tables clean? Are the plants dusty? Are the bathrooms they should also be clean and stocked. So if you go in

there there's no toilet paper and it's just like the floors are sticky. Gross. But important thing for me when I go out to a restaurant is I'm looking at the drink selection. Of course, many say they base their decision on a restaurant on the variety of drink options. Is there a decent selection of cocktails, a good wine menu, and the amount of different beer styles to choose from. That's what I kind of look for. So I had this big menu, and I want to have a different style to pair with

my food. I'm looking at the drink selection. So again, this is just a story that came across. I guess the secrets of judging how good a restaurant are. What do you do when you go to a restaurant? Reach out to us? What's on tap radio, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or what's on tap radio gmail dot com? Do you look for things when you walk into a restaurant for the first time? I don't know. And what's your restaurant? All right? I thought that was pretty interesting. All

right, we gotta take a break. Oh my god, we're on the time of this segment still to come. We got not all heroes word capes, and we got to talk about kid rock. Listeners want to know did he commit treason? I got about five emails about this. We'll talk about it. We'll be right back. Craft beer. It's not alcoholism, it's a hobby. This is What's on Tap Radio. I still got a lot to get to on today's episode of What's on Tap Radio. Thanks for tuning

in. I appreciate you joining us. I know we've been talking about did Kid Rock commit trees? And I've got about four or five emails from our beautiful listeners, And if you want to send us an email, you can do so easily at What's on Tap Radio at gmail dot com. But did Kid Rock commit treason? We'll discuss that. I got a not all heroes were Cape story out of Michigan. I don't know if you saw the story chat, but it's I'm a fan. I saw yeah, I saw it

in the production meeting. Yeah. So again I miss a lot of the production meeting because I was on the phone with this microwave repair company that's refusing to fix their crappy work, their shoddy work. And also we got an interview coming up next hour. So we got a lot to get to on this episode. Plenty more beaters to crack. We were talking about last segment. The secrets of judging a good restaurant is, so if you have a

something that you look for when you go to a restaurant. I would like to know, so you get a hold of us, you know what's on type of your Gmail dot com or through or social media, what's on type of your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, all that fun stuff. Yep. Absolutely, I want to go ahead and do a little shout out for a couple of folks in Iowa. Oh yeah, gotta throw some love over there. I've heard this thing over there called Iowa Nice. It's a

thing where Iowa Nice is one of these. It's like hospitality. It's their version of Southern hospitality. It's just be a good human, be nice to people, be polite, to be proper. And I love that about rag Brye because overall Rag Brye, the bile, the bicycle ride in the summer, which we did with the backyard grill. That was a good time over

there. I was a sagman the support and gear. And while I was there, Mark mcshaffrey, there's our name drop right there, the man who puts all that behind, all the muscle, behind the byg and the rag Bright crew and the brew crew. So I mean, he's the guy who created all that and we're just fortunate to know him and be friends with him,

and it's great. And he came up with this idea that everybody on the team, on the rag Bright team needed to have these shirts, and everybody has a nickname on there, and they put their patches, they sew their riding patches on the back. Well, I don't ride, I'm the sagman. I drive, I haul their gear, and I also buy their beer. So I reached out to some breweries in Iowa saying, hey, all these guys get their riding patches, I want to put beer patches on

the back of my shirt. And Toppling in Goliath and Reunion Brewery in Iowa said that's cool, send us your address. We're gonna mail you some stuff. So T and g Man, Toppling, Goliathe Reunion Brewery, thank you so much for mailing me some stuff. I've reached out to a few other breweries. I'm not gonna say which brewery, but there was one particular brewery that had a three dollar patch and charge me fifteen dollars in shipping. But I was like, okay, all right, well it's an eighteen dollar patch,

but I'm not gonna I didn't expect it for free. I did not, but I was like the same. Another brewery just down the street from them, though, had the same type three dollar patch and they charged me nothing and they threw in some extra stuff too, so I got I got some stuff. But I really wanted to say top in Goliath and Reunion, thank you very much. So that was cool. Now I'm gonna have some patches on the back of my shirt. I know this is people might not

understand this, but there's nothing like the beer community. How they really help each other out. And I'm not sure were really other industries that do that. For example, there will be a brewery down the road from another brewery and they'll run out of grain, and they're competing breweries and they'll run out of grain, and they'll call their brewery down the street, Hey, we just ran out of this grain. Do you have any extra that grain?

Yeah, stop on by. They do that. Tell me another industry that does that. So Chad calls them up and says, hey, I want to, you know, have these patches, and they send these patches to them. Yeah. I know they're not gonna do that just for anybody. I'm not gonna do that just all the time, and I didn't expect it. I told him I'll pay for the patches and I'll even pay for the postage. And somebody, and I hate to say it, but the one

brewery that I did that's charged me the like fifteen dollars for shipping. It was an automated response, and it kind of came back from their website and I was like, okay, by our merchandise, go here, and and I was trying to talk to a human being and well, it just kept directing me to the merch Those times are over. We're you're gonna talk to a human being. Now everything's just automated. AI. Baby, it's happening. And we kind of talked about it like a two years ago, I

think, and we're like, wouldn't wouldn't it be crazy? If you know, one day, Alexa or Siri, we're brewing beer and like ha ha, And now the next thing you know, we're looking at it like, oh, this is actually really happening. You know what's freaky about that is I used to be able to do that joke with you where we yell and I can't even yell it now, but I'll say it differently. But i'd say, hey, Alexa, but we yell it. Remember we used do that. Now I have so many devices that if I do that, everything

starts going yeah. Uh huh what ding ding? And everything starts going off. My holy crap. We used to be able to do joke about that. Can't do it anymore. Well, then our homes became smart, right, yes, smart? Yeah, And when they became smart, that's whenever people started, you know, I don't know, putting microwaves and stoves together and programming Internet ever, dumbest thing ever. Now you can't even fix my

microwave. Now my oven broke. Yeah, I know. Well, maybe AI can help you out because AI seems to guess what answered the automated service answered? I know. I know you can't get away from it. I know that. I'll tell you if you find real customer service right now on the phone, a real person. It's a good thing. But James, I hate to tell you this, but new data suggests that AI artificial intelligence. If you're not hip with the lingo AI, it's coming for your beer

job. Yeah, we've already seen it right now. It's that we've had AI create recipes for beers to see if they can brew better beer than brew masters. And now there's a brewer that did that experiment, and I mean, thank god, the human brewer one. But still it's like all they have to do is two tweaks of a recipe and next thing, you know, it's gonna be brewing better than the That's right, ye human brew master

and the brew master. Yeah, yeah, the AI brew master. You know, it just needs a little oil and you know, you occasionally a control alt, delete, reset, But I mean, it doesn't need breaks or insurance or anything else. And that's kind of freaky. But when I say that new data suggests that AI artificial intelligence is coming for beer jobs, we're not necessarily talking about just brew master jobs. But according to data that comes from a group called just Drinks, which is a segment of global data.

They track job postings across various industries, and looking at the beer and brewing industry, they looked at the time frame from June of twenty twenty two to the same time in twenty twenty three, and they found that breweries posted one hundred and eighty seven AI artificial intelligence related jobs compared to just ninety three twelve months prior. An increase of one hundred and one percent. That's crazy.

Now, when you sit here, like one hundred and one percent increase in the number of jobs, you're like, whoa, that's crazy, right exactly. But when you start looking at it's like, well it's only one hundred and eighty seven jobs versus ninety three, you're like, oh, well, that's not that big of a difference. However, everything has to be taken in context. That's why I love doing data reports. Here, everything in context. This is the beginning of what we may see as a trend.

Not only time is going to tell if this is the case, but according to this information, they're taking an account brewing, marketing, salespeople, distributors, all of this. When you look at this one hundred and one percent increase in anything is notable. It's going to be watched and it's going to be monitored, and if it's successful, you can anticipate exponential growth. Now, unsurprisingly, you know who's banking the big push. It's those who

have the dollars to invest in it. It's the big companies and Heiser Busch, Heineken, IBBEV, while ABMBEV that's the same group, Radberger and others. These are the top job posters in that industry. But you know that if it's successful, they're going to double down and it's going to continue to grow. So breweries they've got to deal with the whole logistics and accounting,

data crunching paperwork. Hey, if there's anything that you can automate and you can do it, they're going to find ways to do it, to streamline, to be more efficient because margins in the beer business are razor thin, competition is heavy, and there are a lot of competitors in the market. There are a lot of people out there. So report found out that in the global beverage industry and they did the math on this computer and math jobs

make up forty five percent of new AI jobs. So whoa. So if you're doing accounting, finance collections, forty five percent of new age jobs are in that segment. Wow, that's that's a lot. So it's entirely new to go into the beer industry like this, but AI can help breweries more efficiently handle all of these tasks. And unfortunately, some of this news is going to overshadow the actual brewing. But time will tell whether or not this pays off, and the story is not going away. We will be I

think it's only going to get bigger. Yep, it is all right. That is our number one of what's on tap radio coming up next hour. We got an interview coming up, Hold my beer and watched this and we're gonna talk about did Kid Rock commit trees? And a lot of our listeners reach out to us and wanted us discuss this. We're gonna do it. We'll be right back. This is what's on tap radio. Stat I'm a

scot Man at this hour. We got an interview coming up, pull my beer momentarily, and then a lot of our listeners reach out to us and said, hey, do you think that Kid Rock commented treason? So a lot to get to, a lot to get to. All right, Chad's empty. Time for Chad to crack another beer. Yeah, I was messing around earlier whenever I said, you know, to beat the heat, you need a good october Fest. But that was a tasty beer. But since

I did bring up Iowa, I want to dive right in here. This is a beer I picked up during rag Bry and I brought it home. Something that's made says canned for the lake. Well that sounds refreshing already. How about the West Oh Brewing Company out of they're here in Iowa. I'm looking for the location. Oh, of course, i'd look it up. West Oak Bogie. Yeah, West Okabogi. Uh yeah, isn't isn't isn't our good friend Brandy. Isn't she from there? Is that an Oregon?

No? No, it's an Iowa. Oh she's from She's from She's from Oregon or parents winery in there? Yeah, that's right. But anyway, this particular shandy is a This is a Lemon Raspberry Shandy limited release from West Oh. Let's crack this thing open and see how refreshing it is because it says it was made for the lake. I want to give a shout out to Fire Marshall Matt. Last week I brought the shandy from Paris Brewing Company and he was drinking alongside with us the same beer. I thought that was

awesome. Thank you Fire Marshall Matt for reaching out to us and showing us that. I like that a lot. James, how's it taste? How's it taste? It tastes like summer? It's first of all, I love raspberries, blueberries, Devil's fruit raspberry, angel fruit. This is amazing, but I want to say one I'm gonna give one little caveat to this. Shandies generally mouth feeling body. They're a little bit lighter, a little bit more crisp, a little bit more acidity and tartness. This has a little

more body to it than I would expect. It's it's almost it finishes nice and clean, but it has a little more body to it. But overall, absolutely delicious. I'm a fan. I'm gonna drink all of these. My wife's not getting any and I was looking for the ABV on this one here, but I can't seem to find it. But yummy delicious. West O Brewing Company, Lake West, Sorry, Woa west oko O bougie oi oh, I don't even know how to pronounce it. Iowa. Thanks guys.

All right, I'm gonna crack a beer here in a second, but I do want to do this number a real quick Hold my beer and watch this brought to you by the Ring alta ten haken insurance group where they'll cover you for just about everything except this. I understand the fascination, and it's a lot of Americans or the culprits of this. They go overseas and they'll go to like the Colosseum in Rome and like carve their names into the structure,

causing damage. I don't know why they feel like it's necessary to cause destruction on you know, a historical structure like that, a historical landmark. Sure, but it happens time after time. Now not so much in this story, but it kind of falls in the same footsteps because it involves people getting drunk and doing something stupid. I remember when there was an American who went to Singapore and they have a they have a rule there you can't spit

in Singapore, and somebody somebody's spit in public. They spit on the street. I'm perfect. He was arrested for He was arrested for it. And his punishment he was caned. They took a cane and they beat his ass. It's like this guy who was visiting in North Korea and I've somehow he got access to it and in the hotel he stole like a picture off a wall. I mean why yeah, anyway, So here's here's what happened.

Now. You you probably heard of people go into like a park or a cemetery or something and hiding out and not leaving when the place closes, because you know, they want to see what happens overnight and they want to stay overnight until the morning. I've never done that, but people do that. You know, they sneak into the cemeteries and maybe they're gonna see a ghost or something. But what happened here. Two people were caught having an illegal

sleepover in the Eiffel Tower, Paris, France. Eiffel Tower. All right, hold, lot of say so far. I'm kind of laughing about this because it sounds kind of cool, like, hey, we managed to pull this off. We got to spend the night in the Eiffel Tower. That sounds kind of get I get the angle, but why Okay, the two American tourists didn't say where, but you know, we have our guesses.

They were able to dodge security on a Sunday night and weren't caught until the guards were making their rounds before opening on Monday, so they were almost in the clear. They were almost made it. But that's what that's where pretty much happens. You let your guard down. You're like, oh, yeah, we got this, and then they got caught. So officials say they were drunk there. That's probably why they got caught. They probably drank through

the night. They probably weren't sleeping. They're like, we can't fall asleep, we gotta stay awake and remember the whole thing. Hey, we brought beer, right, Yeah, cool, let's keep drinking. It probably weren't drinking all night, probably putting this on TikTok or whatever. But yeah, the officials said they were drunk. It's not clear if they accidentally passed out up there or if it was just you know, they were just playing hatched

under the influence. But they were caught, and the security guards noted that they didn't seem to pose any threats, which is good, but it is against the rules. And they did file a criminal complaint with the police, and it sounds like it's just a minor trust passing this sort of thing. They'll probably be fine. And but they weren't any specifics on what happened or if they were gonna be hit with any jail time. But two Americans were

caught drunk sleeping at the Eiffel Tower. Real quick, James, My guess somebody's gonna go up there in a year or two. They're gonna be walking through and they're gonna find Hey, who carved these initials in the Eiffel Tower. Oh, I'm sure it's gonna happen. Yeah, it's like these people that you know they stay at the Walmart. They hide out at the Walmart or the Target or the bed bath and beyond you know these you know they hide out, these squatters. I know, we gotta take a break,

but this is sparked a new tourism. And I don't know if you've heard this in not chat, but I'm gonna roll this. Our sales department wanted us to roll this. But yeah, this is sparked a knew drunk tour. This is interesting. Do you like carving your name into the walls of the Colosseum or getting drunk and spending the night on the Eiffel Tower. Well, it's nothing new here. Drunken tours and bites you to places like Washington, DC where you can get liquored up and add your name to the Declaration

of Independence. Move over, John Hancock, it looks like Seymour Butts is the biggest signature now. Or booze your way through Philadelphia and take an off balance swing at the Liberty Bell I rang the bell, Where's my prize? And finally, no boozy tour of America is complete without taking a grand whiz into the Grand Canyon. Go to drunken tours and book your immediately forgotten memories today. Maybe that's what they did. This has been brought to you by

reading all it today an insurance group. Well, don't show you for lots of things, but not sleeping at the Eiffel Tower overnight. This is what's on tab radio. Hang with us. We got a lot more discuss We'll be right back beer. It's like pouring smiles on your brain. What's on tab Radio continues. If you're here in West Michigan, you have insurance needs, why not support somebody who supports us? Ring all the ten Hagen insurance.

Reach out to our buddy John Clunder. That's ringing all the ten Hacken insurance RTI Grand Rapids dot Com. Alright, still a lot to get to on this episode. We got a big interview coming up. Next segment where I caught up with a husband and wife team in Fulster, Texas Project Halo Brewing Company brining discuss all things from running a small business. In twenty twenty three, what's it like running a business with your spouse, and the controversial

topic of the cold India pale ale. So stay tuned to that, Stay tuned for that. All right. I want to thank our listeners who reach out to is at What's on Tape Radio, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Actually they send to this through uh What's on top Radio at gmail dot com. That's What's on taprido at gmail dot com. But when this story hits man our email, you got mail. You've got mail, You've got

mail because we saw ao. Well I'm just kidding. Uh, but it seems like and we're not We don't really talk much politics on this show, but it seems like the right is really losing its mind over this story. But the subject of its scorn is one of its own kid rock all right, because real quick, I want to interect I want to interject one thing. Yeah, I get hit all the time from people who say, yeah,

I like your show because you guys talk about beer. But I can tell that you guys lean this way and then and then all of a sudden, somebody and somebody will say, well, yeah, you know, I know which way you vote based on your comments. Second here and you know what, here's the thing. If you know, if you can figure that out about me personally or James, okay, good for you, but that's

not what we put in the content of this show. And now all of a sudden, I'm making comments about uh like kid Rock, loot, you know, this Kid Rock story, and I'm talking to people. It was like, well, wait a minute, I thought you were and they're like, wait a minute, wait a minute. We report the news. We report what was happening. Yes, we had commentary, but we are objective, and like James said, I'll tell you this is pretty interesting. People

are losing their minds over this stuff. Now, if you're not familiar with the Kid Rock story, James, do you want to reset? Kind of? So when the when the story came out of Dylan mulvaney, I guess I don't want to say a promotion because it really wasn't a promotion. Basically, bud Light put a transactivists a can and Dylan was the only one that

got the can. But everybody blew up, right, and then bad Light bashed their uh their oil drinkers, right, and then kid kid Rock kind of sparked it all because Kid Rock was you know, he went this whole thing on social media where he took cases of bud Light on his ranch and blew it up with shot it up with his fifteen R fifteen exactly. So news has developed because apparently he was spotted at a concert in Nashville last weekend doing the unthinkable. No, no, he was drinking a bud light.

No so kid rock fans everywhere moaning in despair. No kremitic trastion. Man, No, this is America. What are you doing? Oh my god. And this comes on the heels of just a few months ago, like I just mentioned, film posting a video of shooting cases of butt light saying fu bud Light fu an Hauser bush All because they partnered up the transactivist to sell some more beer to the LGBTQ community. But that actually backfired, backfired

everyway. It's gonna be a case study for every marketing. It really will be. There will be a chapter in books to come. But yeah, the video did help spearhead the cancelation of bud Light. It affect the sales. It was down. We reported it much on the show. But now the same people would jump in the bandwagon want to cancel Kid Rock. One guy even claims that he's already shot up Kid Rocks albums. Oh wow, yeah, but if there's no video of it, did it really happen.

I'm sure there's a video out there somewhere. But because here's the thing, you're not gonna shoot up. I mean, let's just be honest. Okay. Whenever you feel like your favorite sports guy traded you, you know, betrayed you because he took a deal with your rival team, you go out and you watch these guys they burned the jerseys or when they didn't like Nike for being you know, not you know, speaking out against China or whatever,

and they burn the Nikes and all this other stuff. It was like, nobody does that and says, yeah, I did that, but yeah, yeah, I don't have any video of it. They all have video of it. So this guy says he shut up all the kid Rock albums. Yeah apparently. But this also we mentioned on the show a few weeks ago that somebody was going to sneak some bud light into Kid Rocks bar Nashville. But when he goes into the bar, or they go into the bar, they realize that, oh, I don't need to sneak the bud light

in here because they have bud light on tap. They have Anheuser Busch products on tap. So interesting. It kind of makes me wonder, did really, Kid Rock, did he actually stop drinking by light? Was it just like a whole bit with his curtains clothes, He was, you know, drinking the bud light the whole time. I don't know. I like to refer to this, and I know this is my commentary segment here. I

like to refer to this as selective outrage. I am angry when it suits me and it's convenient, but whenever it no longer suits me, or it's no longer convenient, whatever, right, well I'll do whatever, yeah, whatever. So and now conspiracy theorist are coming out here, going well, that picture is five years old. How do we know that pictures a few weeks ago? You know, it's the whole back and forth arguing, But

apparently Kid Rock was spotted drinking a bud light. Well, you know, after shooting up case of bud light saying that do you know that it was in his bar? And he said heck no, So I don't know. I don't know. That's that's interesting, all right, well, James, on the flip side of that, I mean bud light it's light. It's light, it's very light. It's their hot profile is pretty non existent malt flavor. It's just light and crisp and refreshing. Supposedly, that's like the

only flavor profile of light beer. The flip side of that, though, James, pastry stouts. Okay, you see where I'm going here. I do see where we're going. No, I don't actually at all pastry stouts. Pastry stouts there. If you're not familiar with pastry stouts. They are rich, they are thick, they're even gloopy and gloppy. Oh yeah, I gotta be careful with that term. But they can get in trouble if

you use that wrong. But that it's actually a compliment now to be able to say that looking out thick and rich and smoothie like my beer is. Well. Turns out that speaking of pastries, there is a sweet, delectable treat that is now found in liquor form. Yeah, forty proof, that's twenty percent alcohol and it's a blend of booze and one of your favorite breakfast treats. Maybe you're thinking you are too old to enjoy an eggo waffle with

sweet maple syrup and rich butter and a hint of smoky bacon. But not if you're required to show ID to buy it. And now you can, Ladies and gentlemen, there is now an Ego Brunch in a Jar sipping cream, a forty proof boozy concoction that combines eggo waffles and alcohol. Yes, that's right. So this twenty percent alcohol is a blend of all those flavors that I just talked about, sweet maple syrup, rich butter, and a hint of smoky bacon. Now why would you want to do this? Well,

I mean I'm oh, yeah, I am too. Yeah, I mean this sounds like a great deal. I mean, what better way to start off your day with a special morning booze. Yeah, maybe you're not in the mimosa thing, but hey, liquid Ego yum, right there, Ego Brunch in a Jar. It's gonna be available at select retailers Nationwideen's only select states. I'm not sure we didn't do the research on it. There's a link here, and we didn't do that. But this is not the

first time that Ego has gotten drunk. Oh what? Yeah? For the holidays. Last year, they partnered up with the same distillery that is giving you Ego Brunch and a jar cream and they made Ego Nog, which, as you can imagine, is a boozy concoction of Ego waffle flavored eggnog. I think it's only a matter of time before Martin House Brewery says, hey, I want to make an Ego version of some It's gonna be like a Belgian waffle. Yeah. So Ego's coming out with their own special booze that

pairs with waffles. Yeah, what a time, What a time to be alive. I know, I got I got, I got an Ego waffle and I got a liquid Ego waffle. All right, So uh yeah, you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning. And Ego's got you covered. Interesting. All right, we gotta take a break. But coming up, I caught up with Project Halo Brewing Company again. We're gonna talk about controversial topic cold India paleles. Chad's already got that vein,

stick it out of his neck and all this is so much more. We'll be right back. And the teacher said, no, Bobby, there's no such time as bureau o'clock. Fire that teacher. This is what's on tap radio? All right, welcome back to What's on Tap Radio. So I got out of a studio headed a fulster, Texas, met up with a husband and wife team, Melissa and Steve Mendez of Project Halo Brewing Company.

They just celebrated their first anniversary and I sat down with him and I asked him what are some of the challenges they face in the first year of business. Honestly, I think, man, we're pretty much perfect, you know now, I'm just kidding out. How much time do you have? You know, you learn all the time. I've heard many people describe businesses as being, you know, constantly failing right to learn new lessons. But it's

been a pretty fun ride learning stuff. We've had our challenges. We had our challenges during build out as well, because inflation hit us pretty hard. But it's continued to hit us now. But we've been pretty resilient, adapted pretty well, and you know, we're continuing to grow and we're excited about that. So and uh, it's a family owner and operated Melissa Steve married, that's right, yep. What is it like running a business as partners. It's scary, you know, I gotta do what she tells me to

do, and she threatened me sometimes, so I'm just kidding. Uh, It's pretty cool, man. You know, when you work with the person that you love and your best friend, it's pretty easy to just kind of let her do her thing, we do my thing, and you know, we'll meet up and talk about it whenever we have time. And it's pretty fluid so far. So no major issues. I know some people out there,

I've had some struggles, but nothing crazy during freshman year. So what about you, Melissa, what's been some of the challenges that working with your spouse or even you know, having a small business, running a small business, especially with your spouse. Yeah, well, with working with Steve, you know, I take care of like he said, I take care of my stuff. He takes care of his stuff. And then so we're not like together all the time. So it's not I don't know, I don't

it's not a big deal, I guess. Yeah, we have very defined lane, so, like you know, the brillin space is her lane, so I don't dabble with that at all. You know, she does that on her own and I'll just check in on her like milestones, making sure we're on track on certain things, and she'll tell me if we need to adjust or not. And it's pretty easy, you know. It's just she does what she does and I do what I do, and you know,

that's pretty much it. Yeah, Now, do you take work home with you, meaning that when you go home you're sitting at the dinner table. Do you try to separate and balance work life versus a home life or do you all talk shop at home as well? I think right now, because

we're still so new that we do take work home. Just there's not enough hours in the day to you know, run this business, so we do, but we still try to I don't know, have Yeah, it's it's almost impossible since you know, we were a startup and we're still, you

know, a young brewery. We just now hired our tap room manager and we have a staff that we're comfortable with right now, so that may take off some of those small little ankle biters off the table for us, and we may be able to actually, you know, not have brewery talk twenty four seven. But for the time being, that's just kind of the way

it goes. We actually joke around all the time and say, if we just could add two more days of the week, we'd be we'd be good, you know, like two more days of the week, a couple more hours in the day. Yep, that's right. So I understand that you actually went to school for brewing. Talked about where where'd you go to school? I took a course from West Texas A and M and it's a It was a certificate program for Professional brewing impermentation. It was it was online since

it was twenty twenty. Yeah, I so watched a lot of videos, a lot of a lot of studying at home. Yeah, that wasn't the plan. Obviously we had a pivot, right, but yeah, that was the whole that was a buzzword of that year. Yeah, we don't like to discuss that year, like, yeah, pivot, pivot, pivot. What's the course hard? It's science? Man. Yeah, there were some parts that were Yes, they were they were pretty difficult. And he said he did it online, Like how how how do you do it online?

I mean did they tell you, like, hey, go out and get these beers and sample it. Yes? And no. So every course was recorded, I mean, every every class was recorded. So I got to see them doing certain things and they would say, you know, we're going to do this to test off flavors or what's the exam hard? No, one, not that hard. And the final I had to do a internship. An internship. Oh what did your internship had? Ingenious brewing? Okay? So I had to do an internship to receive my certificate, and I

discussed and structures. Instructors were always there, you know, with whatever questions I had. So the final was speaking to the instructors. Professor James Carlisle your name drop was? It was he the professor. He was the one at that Yeah, genius, did you have like a lab coat and a clipboard? And who was Yeah? Were you there? No? I mean this is what I can imagine that. So you you got your certificate and at that point you're probably like, Okay, let's open up a brewery in

Fullster, Texas kind of an untapped market. I know that we have the growler spot not too far away, but this is an area that's really like kind of developing. Every time I drive out here is like, oh, this is that's new. That's new? Why Fullster, Texas? Because it's close to our house. Smart We're lazy people. No, we did our risk analysis and we looked at the air at demographics. We really felt like

it was one of those places that kind of was a brewery desert. I know, no label and full worker down the road and stuff like that, but when you really say down the road, that's like twenty five minutes down the road, right, So things have been shaping more into hyperlocal focus. Brewery's kind of like preprobation times. So you know, when we looked at all the data, I just really made sense. And you know, our friends over at the Growler Spot, you know, they've been there for a

really long time. They were kind of like one of the big, big like icons in the craft beer scene as well. We've been big fans those guys for a long time. But we felt like adding the brewery would also kind of help bringing more people into Full Shure as well, and kind of we've seen some of that so far. So pretty cool. Tune in here. I'm actually broadcasting outside of studio. Project Halo got Melissa Steve Mendez Project

Halo. Tell me about the experience somebody walks into Project Halo. What kind of experienced are they going to get? Yeah, so the biggest principle that we kind of like share with our our employees is, you know, customer experience is the most important thing that we like to focus on. So engaging the customers and getting to know them, that's party number one for us. And that's what you're gonna expect when you walk in. You're gonna be creating

when you walk in the door. We're gonna take time to get to know you, talk with you, and eventually become in frequent enough, we'll definitely, you know, know everything about you and you'll know everything about us, and it'll be a friendship. So that's kind of how we like to do business. And we feel like people are really resonating with that, which is why I feel like we're kind of getting in a lot of tractions. So and in the first year, you guys accomplish a lot a lot of things.

A partner, Sure, you learned. Where would you like to see yourself in about you know, maybe three to four years. We're some short term goals. Short term is more space. We have a smaller space, but we do have air conditioning and that helps out of ten during the summer. But we want more tap room space, we want more production capacity, and we want to expand our canyon production as well to distribution, specifically to

crappier bars. We don't want to go into any stores or anything like that, but you know, just get the name out there a little bit more and then just kind of let Melissa keep doing that that good beer that she does and makes it easy after that. If there's one thing that people should know about Project Halo, what what should they know? Loggers and cold IPAs are delicious. Oh yeah, we have a lot of loggers here which is different and cold IPAs. I love them well. We love our loggers here

in Texas, especially in this heat. But hey, congratulations, I know that you guys picked up a acculade over the US Beer Open. What'd you guys win silver and the Logger category? Yeah, the Logger American Lugger Award winning brewery in their first year. Congratulations, Thank you Melissa. Out of all the year is that you brewed in the past year, what has been your favorite beer that you're the beer that you were so proud of, Like, I can't believe that the beer came out. It's just as good as

it did. I don't know. I've got two. I think you know, the Frieda, the Frieda Forever, the Cold Ipa. I'm that one's really good. I'm a big fan of those. We've had it since we opened because I mean it has a Yeah, it's our second best selling beer, so I think. And what's the name of it, Frieda Forever, Frieda Forever Yep? Okay, So Frieda Callo is a big inspiration to both of us, and that's a big part of our branding. And we have

you know, Frieda all over the tap room. We have pain that we commissioned for freed to some of our march has freed on it as well. So so that's the inspiration, that's right, Okay, it even inspired. I knew we're gonna get. I knew we're gonna get that inspiration. Yeah. Our beer palets, you know, we call them beer palets because it's like a painter's palet and it's shaped for you know, five five ounce beers,

but it looks like a painter's palet, you know. So so I'll throw the question on you, Steve, what is the beer that you're most proud is it? Also the Cold Ipa? I am incredibly proud of the Molists is Halo Light like that that logger beer drinks so good and everyone still continues to call and ask for it when it's in between batches. People are

just like eager to get it in their hands again. So but at the same time, our Mexican ember logger, the Gottels before Votteles, has also been our best selling beer since we've opened up, basically, so you know, to have two loggers that people are just constantly craving and wanting, I think that's pretty cool. So okay, and we gotta get a little controversial. I wouldn't be a journalist if I didn't get a little controversial. The

term cold IPA. I hear Chad, my co host, screaming at me right now saying, do you know there's no such thing as a cold ipa? You know for the purest because loggers. It's a logger, So it's ipl what do you what do you say to those out there out there are like, there's no such thing as cold IPAs, because I feel that there's might be one or two people, mainly my co host. Yeah, and

we've heard a lot of people will be stubborn about it. But if they actually break down the science behind it and look at it right, there's a very pretty significant difference between two styles. And you know, if you want to call it an ipl as long as you like to drink it, that's cool, man. If you want to call it a cold IPA, call

it whatever you want. I think there's a difference. There's a big difference between a Baltic porter, you know, and a California common you know, those use similar styles and and as far as like the productions out of it, but you need to use you know, ale or logger gise those but you know, no one says anything about that. But hanging out with Steve and Melissa Mendez Project Halo on the topic of controversial styles, IPLs IPA,

it's what I don't care. I just like a good beer. But I think also the cold IPA, it's the ingredients because you use an adjunct either corner rice to make it lighter on the palette. And you know, that's what a lot of loggers, that's how they're made, and that's how a lot of laggers are made. And so I think, I mean, it's a thing, like I said, there are those out there that are you know, purists, I guess, but h Steve, Melissa Mendez. Project

Michigan. That being Tantric Brewing Company that's right located right down there on the riverfront. Great beer, great views, great people, great times, and a lot of people have said I heard Alegan was closed, Like really, where'd you pick up that news? Well, we heard about all the construction. Yeah, well, let's see. When the infrastructure is eighty years old, it's time to replace it. And they are nearly like complete with the first phase of it. It is gorgeous down there. Wait, I

will walk you in the door and we'll have a beer together. And James is buying Yes, put it on my tab. Yeah, definitely put on my tab. All right. Decided for me to crack another beer before say goodbye for the week. And the last beer I'm cracking for this week is I'm going another brewery from Louisiana off Tropic Tula Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. And this is a beard that we actually talked about on this show when they released it, and I was very excited to get my hands on it.

And when I went out to this brewery, Urban South, I got to talking with him and they set me up with some beard to talk about on the show. And one of those beers is the Urban South Juvie Juice with a collaboration with Juvenile and this is actually half and half half hard iced tea and lemonade. I have a question. You have a beer that says Juvenile on it. How is it that they got label approval? It doesn't say it says juve right, but it's a collaboration with juvenile, and you

can't collaborate with juveniles in order to make beer. That right there is a violation of label law right there. I'm surprised at TTB and the at F and the FBI and the CIA and the irs haven't got all over that. Well now they have, Chad, thanks a lot. Oh oh wait, sorry, they were listening. Wait to go, Chad, wait to spoil it. Now they're like, gosh, dang it. You had to say something, didn't you, Chad. He had to say something, Okay. Juvenile is a rapper. Juvenile is a rapper. Nineties. He had a

song called back that thing up Cash Money Records. Yep, my high schools soundtracks. This is what else jamming on my CD deck when I was going to school, juvenile. But now he has collabed with Urban South and he was actually in town at the Urban South HTx for the release of this beer here in town. But again, this is the juv jews half and half half part I see and half lemonade and this comes to you at five percent alcohol by volume, and it's green tea, green tea and lemonade. How

do you, I mean, be honest, be honest. Are you liking it. Here's the deal. I should have drink this beer first before I had the Datsuma. I pas with that some of the Fog Brewing Company. But I had it at the brewery and it was like one hundred and ten degrees in the shade and it was very nice. So I think that it was just the order of beers I had it in. I'm not enjoying it as much as I should, but I am liking it. Again. We take pictures of the beers that we were drinking. Go to our social media

at What's on Tap Radio, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Give us a follow, give us a like, reach out to us at What's on Tap Radio Gmail dot com. Gives some suggestions. But so I heard, I know we got this story coming out of Michigan, but I want to just drop this on you really quick. Since we were talking about the alcohol alcohol boards and the governing bodies and everything. This from the Michigan Liquor Control

Commission and this justin ladies and gentlemen. We reported recently that the Big Ten or the State of Michigan, I should say, has approved alcohol sales at the football stadiums for the University of Michigan and Michigan States. That's good. People are gonna be drug driving now, right, Yeah, well, it was approved. Always say that. They always say that when a story comes out like this. I know, I know, it's like, now we're

gonna rule people definitely weren't drinking before then. So there were only three remaining schools in the Big Ten that which is now like twenty teams now or whatever if you follow college football, but Michigan, Michigan State, and Nebraska the last three teams to uh not sell alcohol and stadium until now, Ladies and gentlemen go green. Spartan Stadium will have beer this season, starting with the

second home game. Excuse me, I guess that'd be the third home game on September sixteenth, which is against Washington, and the fourth home game September twenty three against Maryland, and again on October twenty one against that other school from Michigan. Yeah, when they play the Wolverines, beer will be sold. And ironically November fourth, the last home game against Nebraska, the last

one of the last two schools to not allow alcohol to be sold. So that's good news followed that's at Beer Logic Chad Pillbeam where he'll be posting pictures of him shotgunning beers at the Michigan Oh not shotgunning, no, no, but I will be tailgating. I'll be drinking Tantrick brew and yeah, we're gonna have some good time, all right before we get out of here, speaking of Michigan. Not all heroes work capes. I love a good Not

all heroes work cape story. And this is the moment a hero stopped a man robbing in Michigan Mini mart by shooting the suspect all while carrying a six pack of Miller Lite. That's good journalism right there. Good journalist him right there, that's right he was. He had a steady hand, he had he had good grouping on his shots, and didn't drop the beer. And the journalist, the journalist even identified what kind of beer he was holding.

And that's how you do it. So the incident occurred on July twenty seven, when the suspect, it's almost like, hold my beer and watched this Cordelias and Anthony Martin, he was thirty five, armed himself with a box cutter and tried to rob at them. In he marks the unarmed customer who had a valid concealed Carrie Permits prompably took out his handgun and fired seven shots at the suspect. Martin entered the store. This is the guy who's robbing

in the store. He entered the store now seeing you know why I'm here before, pulling a mask over his face, and he threatened the store clerk with the box cutter, the cops said, and the customers told law enforcement that he could not see what the robber was holding, but he feared it might have been a gun because he was holding it to the clerk's face. And the man fired the shots, one hitting a liquor bottle, while the others catching the robber and the arm back and face. And while the shooting

occurred, the customer never put down the six pack of Miller lights. I love it. There's a survellance video. He's just shooting and he's just got his you know, his his Miller light and his and his six pack of Middle light in his hand. I'll watch shooting this. Uh, this alleged robber alleged. I love the alleged. They always got through the alleged because you know, because it's not finally any until court. But I want to see if Miller white steps up on. That's what I'm saying. That's right

new from the Miller Light merchandise website. Get your new Miller LIGHTE holster for your side arm. That's right available for Smith and Wesson glock whatever. I don't know, I'm just Remington. I'm just making Barretta. I'm just I don't I'm not a big gun guy. But I could just see it now, and then of course James and I will go and I'll be like, oh, yeah, I got a Barretta. All right, cool, let's go there. I'm gonna go have a Miller Light. Oh sold out because

it never never existed. So the customer told the police that the suspect fell on the floor was crawling towards him. He therefore ran to his car to grab another magazine and then held the suspect at gunpoint until the officers arrived, and the suspect was arrested, and it's arraigned on multiple charges, including robbery. But there is an investigation, and this is the part I don't like whether or not this hero is going to be charged with anything, because they're

gonna be looking at the fact was he had a threat. But we feel that he shouldn't. Even the clerk has said, you know what, this guy saved my life. So not all heroes were capes. A moment hero Michigan gas station customer calmly shoots a robber armed with the box cutter, all while holding a six pack of miler lights. When you hold a box cutter to a clerk face and threatened to rob them, I'm I'm pretty cool with them losing all rights. All right. Anyway, that's this episode of What's

on Tap Radio. Thanks for tuning in.
