Episode description

George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four just turned 75 years old. It was, and still is, the definitive dystopian novel, a horrifying vision of life lived under the strict control of a totalitarian government. Big Brother, Thought Crimes, Room 101, these terms may be from the plot of the novel, but they have since entered into everyday language. Dorian Lynskey, writer for Q, the Guardian and GQ, and host of the Remainiacs podcast, has written a biography of the iconic novel. We chat to him about what it means when we say Orwellian, and of course, about the novel’s continued impact on our political world.
