We continue our journey through the Lord’s prayer this week in our Praying on Purpose series by considering Jesus’ instruction to pray ‘forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.’ Jesus’ words raise many questions: if God forgives us when we believe in Christ, why do we need to ask forgiveness again? If we fail to forgive someone, are we no longer Christians? How can we forgive someone who hurt us so deeply or who hasn’t admitted they wronged us? What does forgiveness look like in our era of ‘cancel culture’ and going ‘no-contact’ with those who have wronged us?
