Episode description

I was diagnosed with mast cell activation due to toxic mold exposure in October 2021, nearly 3 years after I presented with my first symptom. What started out as migraines (no prior history), morphed into nearly 30 separate symptoms that affected every organ and system in my body.

I spent all of 2019, 2020 and most of 2021 seeing more than 20 different doctors, functional MD's, specialists, and naturopathic doctors - none of whom could figure out what was causing me to go from 100% healthy to totally disabled. Over the course of 3 years, I had 3 MRI exams, every blood draw you could imagine, cat scans, kidney function tests, urinalysis as well as 50 other labs performed by ER doctors, PCPs, neurologists, gynecologists, cardiologists, and migraine "specialists". All my labs looked "normal". Save for the fact that hormones were off, which lead me down the treacherous and ridiculously uninformed path of doctors who were "hormone literate" but actually weren't.

Finally, in October 2021 after listening to more than 200 hours of podcasts where I heard Dr. Neil Nathan, MD speak about mast cell activation and mold illness, I was able to diagnose myself! Testing my home, my body and writing to Dr. Nathan resulted in a correct diagnosis and treatment plan.

As of April 2023, I'm about 40% better. It's taken over a year and a half just to get mast cell response muted enough to go after the mycotoxins from the mold exposure which have colonized my gut (microbiome). At this time, I'm able to slowly, micro dose binders such as betonite clay and eventually, charcoal, Saccharomyces boulardii and welchol. These binders stick to the mycotoxins (which are from inhaling mold spores) and safely help me eliminate from the body. The final step will be anti fungal treatment.

At this time, I'm finally able to:

1. Walk for 30 minutes

2. Do gentle yoga

3. Work part time

4. Drive myself anywhere

5. Travel via plane
