Motivation Monday: How to do Powerful Affirmations

I've known about affirmations for years, courtesy of my insatiable appetite for personal growth and human potential content! I think I may have first heard of them when "The Secret" came out circa early 90's, and like many, I started applying the "law of attraction" principles outlined in the movie which included affirmations. However, I've found over the last 10 years of seemingly non stop insurmountable health/wellness challenge in my and my daughter's life, that affirmations don't cut it (at least, not the way they are taught in "The Secret").
Instead, I've used affirmations as a way to commit to a goal, an outcome that I want to achieve. I define my "why" behind it, and I don't give myself another option for it NOT to happen. It's more that I see no other choice than to keep pursuing action, thoughts, knowledge, resources etc..to lead me closer to my goal, whether it's wellness, career, love, home...you get the idea.
I was completely inspired to reignite my affirmation practice after listening to a powerful podcast episode with Hal Elrod and Cathy Heller, where he goes into more detail about his entire routine called the Miracle Morning. It's inspirational, moving, motivating, and very easy to start each one of his recommendations. I highly recommend his book and app if you want more information.
In the meantime, try affirmations with the statement, "I commit to ......because.....there is no other option, no matter what" and see how things start changing as you take inspired action along with affirming your commitments.
