Episode description

Dr Tony Fernando; a kaleidoscope of activity and a strong advocate of rest. He is an is an academic, award-winning teacher, cellist, cheap-eats foodie, Buddhist monk and reluctant ocean swimmer. Tony Fernando is a psychiatrist, sleep specialist, senior lecturer in psychological medicine at the University of Auckland, and compassion specialist who was temporarily ordained as a Buddhist monk.

This conversation is exactly what the doctor ordered for the somewhat crazy busy life we can find ourselves in – the yin to the yang.  Matilda, Art and Tony talk in depth about mindfulness, all things compassion and everything you have always wanted to know about sleep. Oh yeah, and crispy pork.

Recently Tony started a weekly mindfulness and emotional balance programme for inmates at Mt Eden Corrections Facility in Auckland.  We hear from Dr Fernando on the benefits that have been seen from this programme already.

Grab yourself a cup of tea, a warm sunny spot on the couch and some peace and quiet to enjoy the chat.
