Three talk WhatsApp o seven so five six seven one five six seven. As you well know, every year on July eighteenth, we recognize Mandela Day and it's a day where people are invited to set sixty seven minutes aside to do something for others and do an act of good will. No stranger to goodwill is the Ladles of Love organization. They're really shot to prominence during the COVID pandemic when they did such incredible work feeding hungry tummies
and they still continue to do so. To find out more about their Mandela Day campaign, it's a pleasure to say good morning and welcome to weekend Breakfast to Allison McCutcheon of Ladles of Love. Good morning Allison, thanks for joining us.
Good morning Amy, and hello listeners on this chilly morning.
It is chilly. Allison, and tell our listeners a little bit more about Labels of Love Mandela Day campaign and how they can get involved.
Okay, well, this is our seventh Mandela Day. Just before COVID, we started producing these Mandela Days and every year and surfy through COVID that got big and beg and we used to use it as a way to attract food donations so that we could sustain our feeding programs, and about two years ago we realized that actually it was more about bringing people together to volunteer in the spirit of a buntu, to roll up their sleeves and do
something to give back. So we've got a feeding scheme where we provide nutrition to children in preschools, and to sustain the program, we need to raise a lot of money every year tomorrow and procure healthy food for the children, but also to provide them items that help them grow
in terms of early childhood development. So we've got about seven just over seven thousand children in our pro and Mondela Day gives us the opportunity for people to volunteer, to come together and make items for these children, and by buying tickets to come to the event. And this year, traditionally we've done sort of sixty seven minutes, but it just wasn't enough. By the time people started doing things,
they were finished already. So this year we're doing two hour sessions and people paid two fifty for a ticket, which is actually a donation that feeds a child two meals a day four months. So you do good bye buying a ticket and then you come and join us and spend two hours making these items. So it's this year, it's bigger than ever before. We managed to secure the DHL stadium. Wow and Kardi that they've donated it to us in a huge, active, massive kindness, So we beside ourselves.
So after this big springbook game, we'll be moving in in the next ten days or so to start building up for Mondela Day, So thousands of people will be coming together to do this and it honestly puts us on our feet to raise the kind of money and awareness and items we need for these children at preschools.
Sure, that's fantastic. Is there still space and opportunity for people to get involved hundred percent.
That's why we had to move to a bigger venue because we just couldn't accommodate the amount of people that wanted to join us. With wellness in the workplace being such a key drive at the moment, corporates are booking tickets one hundred at a time, which has been fantastic, So they're coming to roll up their fleas and you know, school holidays, so I'm sure parents are going to jump on board because it's something really worth while for children to do to learn to get back to those less fortunate.
So in this instance, this year, there are four different disciplines, so you can are they come and make sandwiches. In the make zone and there's sandwiches you can fill the buckets of which is layers of dry goods that can one back at alone feeds about fourteen children. Or in the create zone you can create beautiful posters that go on the walls to educate the children, or little coloring
in books about numbers, letters. And then in the craft section they'll make dolls and we've even got car cushions this year and little piece dolls which are all about the emotional wellness of the little children. And then the last one is making. We call it the grower zone where you make little edible gardens. You create them for the children and the preschool principles can help grow little edible gardens and then that food will go in the pots for lunch.
And if you sign up to participate, do you do all four or do you choose one?
No, you choose one. You do two hours in one stuff. But there's more than enough to do and we provide all the materials. So you just arrived, you can bring your own coloring in because there's always an element of doing a beautiful card with a message of love and hope to the child that's going to be the beneficiary. So you can either bring your own coloring in stuff throughout those cards, or we provide everything through the generosity of sponsors.
I'm so glad that you mentioned corporates a moment ago, because there are there are ways for companies to get involved. I know, for instance, Pesto Princess for every bag of soup you buy from them, they donate a portion of that to you so that it's a one.
Hundred print be fed.
And I'm sure there are other companies out there getting involved. It sounds like a wonderful initiative. Allison, just remind our listeners please how they go about signing up.
It's really easy. List year. We put a ticketing system into our website, so you literally go to Ladles of Love dot org dot and it will take you straight through. There's a little pop up you click on that and it takes you and you choose the venue. Because we also had Kyle Lami Grand Prix Racetrack in Joannetesburg. Oh well, so you choose your venue, you choose your time slot. You can either do nine to eleven, eleven to one, one, two, three,
or three to five in the afternoon. So you choose your time stop, you choose which one of the disciplines that make create, grow, craft and grow and literally go to kat and choose a number of tickets and then of corporate it's one too. They can book directly through us. We've offer concierge service and if that is tickets at Ladles of Love dot org dot Saurday.
