Raul , sir , thank you so much . It's my pleasure honor to have you on this podcast . Thank you for being here today , my friend .
Thank you . Thank you for having me here . It's my pleasure . I just love what you do , my friend . You're a mindset strategist and then you help people to realize their dream . It's something that we have in common . Excited to be here to be part of your show .
Thank you , sir , thank you , thank you . Thank you so much for that . I want to get right into it . I want to do a really cool role in corporate America which is training and equipping leadership teams with personal development front , inspiring and adopting a positive mind . Talk conversations , man . I want to talk about that because that's I'm all about that .
First of all , I'm going to get into that in a minute , but tell us how you first , how you got started in that role . How does one do what you do ? How does one become a professional at what you do ?
Definitely . It's not something that happened overnight . It has come up with a lot of preparation and it was I believe it was in my destiny to come into this learning and development role .
In my role , one of the passion that I realized for mine was helping others getting subsets , and I was getting that adrenaline rush when I used to see someone moving up in the value chain or someone succeeding in their way of life . That really had that profound impact and that's when I started .
I thought that I need to go and give back to society and try to support the individuals who are currently stuck or currently have no direction and I can provide some ray of hope , ray of light and some positivity to them so that they can take action .
I love that let's talk about . You said keyword right . A lot of people in our culture right now are feeling stuck right .
There's a lot of people with inflation where it is and I'm going to bring economics and some of those things Inflation where it is , divorce rates where they are , the division of where our country is right now with a lot of these laws and a lot of these things and they feel stuck in a lot of ways .
They feel stuck because inflation is so high and they're not keeping up with their money is not taking them as far as they used to take them .
So that's a great question and I see that many of us have been in that situation once in a lifetime , or maybe a couple of times in our lifetime . I have been to that earlier as well . There are three things I would suggest to the listeners who are at the top .
Number one they need to have a mentor in their life , a coach in their life who is able to give them direction , as well as who has full trust in the abilities of the person .
So we need to have that individual in our life and , as you mentioned earlier that they need to listen to your podcast , maybe you could be one of the mentor or coach or people like you who have done it all . So that would be my first advice . Number two I would say it is we need to prepare ourselves to knif up in the value chain .
Things will not happen overnight and , as you mentioned in the question , a lot of people think that , okay , no one is listening to me , no one is understanding me . We don't need to have that blame to others . We ourselves are responsible for our destiny . We ourselves are responsible for our own success .
So we need to take action and for us to give that direction . What action to be taken . That's where that coach or mentor will play a vital role . So have a mentor , be prepared for the next steps and take consistent action . Don't have a pessimistic approach In taking action .
One of the comment I would make is which I have done mistake is I was always looking for the perfect action , or I need to make it perfect . Make it perfect and you know what . There is no such thing , in my opinion , like perfection . It's always a perspective . Maybe it's a perfect from your angle , maybe it's not perfect from someone's aspect .
So my request would be to take continuous imperfect action . What do you think about my mentor ? Prepare yourself and take continuous imperfect action to move out of the situation that you are in . I love that .
Mentor , coach , and I'm constantly saying that here you've got to find someone it's so important on who you are listening to , Like , that is , who you're surrounding yourself with your friends , who's in your ears , what information you're getting in your ears that is so important to your success , which you just said mentor . Find a mentor , find a coach .
Prepare to move up in the value chain . I want you to unpack that a little bit more .
So , before I go specifically on preparation , I would want our listeners , who are stuck in their lives today , to think of a similar situation that has happened with them in the past and how they have overcome that situation .
If this is their first time , this may not be relevant , but if it is something that has happened with them in the past , they need to think about okay , what did they do to overcome to that situation ? That will give them that comfort , feeling that okay , I got this , I can get out of here . That is the number one .
But if you are on the fence where it is the first time , think about a situation that you have mastered it . In our life there are many things that we have mastered . The master of the art it could be cycling or running , or maybe cooking or driving . How it happened ? It did not happen overnight . You practiced a lot .
You prepared yourself to become explored in that particular field . Maybe you are doing carpentering or maybe drawing or whatever it is . It is over a period of time . So preparedness I mean is practice . You need to practice practice till it becomes progressives .
The other thing sometimes we feel that if I don't have a solution , no one else in the world has a solution . That is the mindset I would want people to change . Every problem , in my opinion , has a solution . You may not have that solution , someone else will . So you need to surround yourself with people with positivity .
Your inner circle has to be so supportive , so helpful , that they can guide you and give you the direction and give you that motivation to help you out from that situation . So preparedness is more about practice , martin , and preparedness is about finding people who can give you a solution .
You may not have a solution , but you may find people who may have a solution . So that is what I mean by got it .
That's a really good , really really good answer . What do you tell people ? How do you change your circle ? Because that was always a big question for me , for investors . I have an answer for investors , but let's just say you're not an investor . Let's just say , man , I just want more , I want me personally .
I'm at a point in my life , raul , that I just want less people in my inner circle .
But I want higher quality people in my inner circle , and what I mean by that is I want to have friends that can come to my house so we can sit in our backyard , we can barbecue , we can hang out and I could just take my shoes off and talk about anything with them .
Right . So , as you initially mentioned about these people specific class of people they have low means , less means to do things . The first thing I would it does not require any money is about the changing the mindset , having that positive mindset . Now , how you can inculcate positive mindset ? There are a couple of things I would recommend . Number one would
¶ Positive Mindset and Mind Talk
be start practicing gratitude . Don't think about things that you don't have . Be thankful to Almighty for the things that you are your friends , your family , the surroundings , the people around you . You don't have any control on the thoughts of other people .
You have no control about what action the other person will take , but you have every control in your own thoughts and the action that you will take . Once you start practicing gratitude , you will start valuing the value of life . Number two I would suggest is be someone who is a resourceful person . Help others .
There is a sense of gratitude that you will get when you help others . It is so helpful , it is so beneficial . You give and the giver will be coming to you . You would be given . That is one phrase I have heard . You give , you will be given .
So try to inculcate that habit in you , where you are always working as a resource you are focusing on giving , giving help to others , practice kindness . And the other thing I would say is we need to prepare ourselves model with those life skills which are future proof , which are proof of recession no matter what economic conditions are , you are safe .
Those future proof skills , in my opinion , are positivity , positive mindset , your adaptability , your critical thinking , your ability to build relationship , ability to do networking . These are some of the skills which are which , no matter which economic condition you are coming from , whether of your society or a country , these conditions will be helpful .
And just to piggyback on how they can start , number one , social media . Maybe , let's say they don't have means of social media . Maybe they can follow the ethnic group or their religious group . Just find one person who is that ray of hope , who is that positive person , and that will be a ripple effect .
All this thing first , we have to consciously work to change our mindset .
Okay , that's great . So what can one person do to start working to change their mindset , right ? Is there something that you would recommend to someone that they could do daily ? There's something here in your intro that I read which was about personal self-talk or something like that . I mentioned Mind talk . Yes , I love that , right ?
What can you recommend to someone they can do who like start shifting that mindset ? Because , you know , maybe someone's 30 , 20 years old , 25 year old , 40 year old , right ? 50 year old , 60 year old , 70 year old listening to our podcast and they've had these negative thoughts for years .
So , as you rightly mentioned about the negative thoughts , as a human being , we get close to 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts in a 24 hour period . That is the research . The unfortunate part is that 90% of those thoughts are negative and we have to take conscious effort in converting those negative thoughts to positive .
So few things that we can do is read to positive literature . Talk to positive people and let's say those people are not around you . Quarantine yourself from those people who are giving negativity , who are sucking the positivity from quarantine yourself .
Number two is , since 90% of thoughts are negative , we need to inject positivity in our thoughts by talking positive to our mind . That positive mind talk will have an ability to distinguish our success and failure , and in my world , I have been teaching positive mind talk over years . My kids are now becoming of my guinea pig .
They are learning and they are experimenting it , and positive mind talk is telling yourself about things that you want to do . So I will give an example , more than years , so that people understand better . And this is an example of my son . This winter he was part of basketball team and we were just going to bed .
I just snubbed him and said goodnight and he said wait a minute . And he said , okay , I waited . Then I asked what happened . I was doing positive mind talk . I said really , what are you talking about ? I told to my mind that I want to be better in my game tomorrow than the last week and then I said what do you mean ? How do you want to do it ?
That last game I was not able to score . I was only able to assist . In tomorrow's game I want to impact this score positively . I want to score a basket , minimum one basket , and he's a nine-year-old in the fourth grade and next day he scored a basket . Now I am correlating it .
Not that there is a correlation , but what I said that when you think positive thing in your mind , god helps you in bringing that positivity closer to you . If you are thinking negative , negative things will come to our mind , because it is our mind that propels us to take action . So if you're thinking negative , negative action will come out .
If you're thinking positive , positive action , so think positively . Do that mind talk conversation and the mind talk . Martin , one thing I will tell you based on my experience the people who do and a lot of people use the self talk . So they who self talk or mind talk . They use the word I in the conversation , which is why am I upset ?
Why is this happening to me ? We use this word I or me . My request and suggestion would be insert your name instead of I or me . Why is Rahul upset ? Why is Rahul so negative ? Or why is Rahul so angry ? What happens when we use our name ? And this is according to the research .
It allows us to take a better control of our emotions , our feelings and action , specifically in a challenging time , because if the things are negative around us , you're all thinking negative and the negative thought process is making us take negative action . So inculcate this habit of positive mind talk .
Use your own name instead of using the word I or me , and feel the difference . I have seen the difference in many and I'm very confident you will also see the difference .
That's really good . I did it right now , as you were saying it . I was literally like , as you're saying it , I'm playing it in my head , okay , so why is Martin Perdomo , you know , mad about whatever right ? And what it did for me ?
I literally just did it myself as we're having this conversation , and what it did for me is that it allowed me to look at this at myself as a third party and allowed me to be more logical . That's what it did for me instantly , and I'm just saying this is just as you were .
Having this conversation allowed me to look at the situation logically , as a third party , versus emotionally in the movie , if that really sets . Yeah , I do a lot of that at times with when I'm trying to figure out a problem .
I don't do exactly that and it's interesting because you just gave me a name for it but sometimes I'll sit in my , in my , in my , in my desk at home when I'm journaling and I'll think of , okay , I have this problem here with this property or this situation and I have to figure it out , and what I do is I would like I don't know .
I go into the state when I look at the problem from an outside , so I no longer , and Martin in the problem . I look at it kind of like a chessboard . Hmm , I kind of look at it like a chessboard and I say , okay , so if this is the problem , what should be ?
What should be the next move to get to fastest to the solution and to Overcome this problem ? So it's kind of a strategy that I personally use when I'm kind of trying to figure out a problem and it's a mental thing .
I do it and it's like it's weird because I get in this zone and I sit back on my chair and I Kind of see the problem and then I kind of see it like from above and I see like what needs to happen for all of this to work out . And it's favorite for me and it just that just occurred to me .
As you were saying , you use your name and it gave me that same feeling of that third party Logically and took takes out the emotion . And I don't know if that's your experience or that's what it's supposed to do , but that was my experience just now is like this yes .
So that is what research showed , as I was telling you earlier , that it allowed us to Distinguish between our own emotion . It allows to take more rational Thinking about our feelings , emotions and the way we will be taking action . Otherwise , we may take decisions which are irrational , and that is another thing .
I would comment , martin on this is , let's say , if we want to quit on something , quit on any product , wait on any of the aspects . My recommendation would be Never , ever , quit on a bad day . If you want to quit on anything , always quit on a . And you're on a good day , when you're keeping your head head high , you will not regret your decision .
That is a very big and on learning that I had , it's very good ways . Yeah , and then we are Mad at things . When we are not in a good mindset , good frame of mind , we may take action which we will regret for life . Yeah so don't take action or don't quit on things when you are not in a right Mindset , not in a frame of mind .
I want to ask you this final question before we wrap it up , and that is you mentioned earlier that 90% of 60 to 80,000 of our thoughts are negative . I , I , I , I .
I , I , I , I , I , I , I , I , I , I . We are talking to someone . There is a lot of negative connotation , negative words that are being used and it is Not deliberately . Sometime it is more subquantiously . So what our mind is getting is on negative , negative , negative , negative , negative , and that is when we start thinking about things negative .
So , for example , there's a different example . Let's say , when you are having your meal and if you want to have a dessert , the research shows that if you wait for 45 minutes Before you start thinking on your dessert , the likelihood of you not eating the dessert increases by close to 80% . But think about it .
What happens when we go to a restaurant Before our meal is finished ? The server will come . Please look at our dessert winning . Whether you are thinking about having a dessert or not , it is coming to you right in front of you . So where I am going at is when we are seeing and observing a lot of negativity .
That is the reason why our mind is thinking negative . So we have to take subconsciously in our mind , effort to think positive , to use our words , more positive words . I think there is a game where you cannot use a word . No , there is a kids game we have tried to see if , in a day , how many words are you using which are also negative connotation .
Start changing those negative words to positive and you will see some positivity .
Thank you so much , raul , for coming on and sharing all of your wisdom and insight with myself and the audience . Really , I am proud of you .
