A Death Investigator's Memoir.

Transcript

Welcome to the WBZ book Club. I'm Jordan Rich. Barbara Butcher is the author of a new memoir story of an alcoholic who sank to the very bottom, found relief in AA and serendipitously wound up in a whole new career. She became a coroner and writes about it in her book What the Dead No Learning about life as a New York City death investigator. Her work over the years took her to the scenes of fatal accidents, homicides, suicides, and

any number of challenging situations. She was an investigator who covered all parts of the Big Apple, from Park Avenue penthouses to the city slums. Barbara Butcher was only the second woman to take on that role, and she worked many famous death scenes, including the crash of American Airlines Flight five eighty seven and the Staten Island Ferry disaster in two thousand and three. A fascinating story about

a woman who met death head on. Always mindful and respectful to those who lost their lives, do check out Barbara Butcher's new book, What the Dead Know. And That's the Book Club. WBZ, Boston's news radio
