Welcome to the WBZ book Club. I'm Jordan Rich. I've recently been getting into the collected What If eminent historians imagining what might have been edited by Robert Cowley over the years. And what If is just that imagine what might have happened if history turned out differently. The combined volumes feature essays by historians, columnists, and philosophers and pose some pretty head scratching questions. For instance,

what might have happened had Pontius Pilot spared Jesus from crucifixion? Or what would have happened to the United States during and after the Civil War if there was no Emancipation Proclamation? What if the Spanish Armada had successfully landed in England? But if American forces and not the Russians had taken Berlin in nineteen forty five? What if George Washington had not escaped after losing the Battle of Long Island.

So many more questions framed in very smart essays. For those who love counter factuals, check out What If, a compilation of essays by thirty four distinguished historians edited by Robert Cowley. The book Club WBZ, Boston's news radio
