Hello, this is the WZ Book Club. I'm Jordan Rich and I'm hot on the heels of a brand new detective series. I discovered the first book, The Cold Cold Ground, featuring Detective Sean Duffy, published back in twenty twelve. The action takes place in Northern Ireland during the Troubles Spring

nineteen eighty one, the center of the Troubles Belfast. Sean Duffy is a tough, young, very smart Catholic detective working in the heavily Protestant Royal Ulster Constabulary, and he's tasked with trying to track down a serial killer targeting homosexuals. But things, of course, aren't what they appear, with one of the victims a high level operative for the IRA.

What appears on the outside to be the work of a serial killer turns out to be a tangled web of politics deceit with sectarian violence at the center of it. The author, Adrian McGuinty, has written several Shawn Duffy novels, and McGuinty gets it right, from the locales to the dialogue. It's an unusual crime thriller set in a dangerous time and location.
