Welcome to the WBZ Book Club. I'm Jordan Rich, one of Cbe Bernard's colleagues. A fellow author wrote this about Bernard's latest novel, Small Animals Caught in a Trap. It's reminiscent of Ken Keysey's Sometimes a Great Notion. A novel that gives you love and heartache, disappointment and joy in equal measure. The story takes place in a small town in Oregon. The town is actually named Disappointment. That should tell you something. They're a former boxer, a
washed up pug named Lewis Yaw makes a living as a fishing guide. His family background and choice of career that of a boxer certainly set up Lewis to be damaged goods, but he meets a woman who changes his life. They come together and she gives birth to their daughter, Gray. At first, Lewis's hesitant, and he's unsure whether he can be a good father, something he didn't have. But as the child grows, the two become close and tackle a series of challenges in this small town. Together. The X boxer
and his daughter live up to the challenges until tragedy strikes. The title of this novel is apropos, smart animals caught in traps, deep and heartbreaking, and that's the Book Club. WBZ, Boston's news radio
