A Memoir.

Transcript

Welcome to the w BZ book Club. I'm Jordan Rich. The book is called Running Man by Charlie Engele. Charlie was an addict, addicted to crack, cocaine and booze, and like so many, hit rock bottom after a near fatal six day binge. What turned his life around was running, and it not only kept him alive and sober, but focused on achieving a goal. He took on endurance races, including a one hundred and fifty five mile

run through the Gobi Desert. He became an inspirational speaker, even the subject of a documentary called Running the Sahara narrated by actor Matt Damon, in which Charlie helped raise millions of dollars for charity. But the story takes a turn. Charlie was sent on to prison for what seems like a petty crime, and while there he became known as the Running Man, helping other inmates find new hope through the sport of running. A truly inspiring memoir about a guy

who's had some serious ups and downs but continues to move forward. Running Man by Charlie Engel. The book Club w BZ, Boston's news radio
