Hello, and welcome to the WBZ Book Club. I'm Jordan Rich. A new historical book is being released this month. It's called Out Maneuvered, America's Tragic Encounter with Warfare From Vietnam to Afghanistan. The author is James A. Warren. There's no question that America has led the world in war fighting
over the last couple of centuries. But historian and foreign policy analyst James Warren is looking at the failures that occurred from Vietnam to Afghanistan, and he makes a very strong argument that misguided foreign policy, ineffective intelligence, and lack of military options on the ground have led to wars with endless fighting and either stalemates or actual loss in conflict.
The author points out that many politicians and leaders began ignoring the realities of war in the nineteen sixties, wars that pitted the United States not against harsh political systems, but in uphill struggles against religion and ideology, where the old idea of nation building just doesn't cut it.
