Episode description

The Science and Art of Longevity.

Transcript

This is the WBZ Book Club. I'm Jordan Rich. I am halfway through a rather large book called Outlive The Science and Art of Longevity. It's by Peter Atia, MD with Bill Gifford. The author became interested in longevity and how diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer's disease. They all play a role in an unhealthy system, and the age old axiom that prevention is worth a pound of cure is more prescient when it comes to good health in

later years. The best science out there says that what you eat matters, but how you eat matters more, how many calories you're taking in and how much exercise is right for you, exercise being the magic bullet that consistently ranks as the most effective way to stave off the four horsemen. What do I

like about his approach? It's not a one size fits all. Everyone's physiology is unique, and as doctor Atia points out, quote, you must be well informed, medically literate to a reasonable degree, clear right about your goals, and cognizant of the true nature of risk. Concepts that people of any age should check out. Outlive the Science and Art of Longevity by doctor Peter at the book Club. WBC Boston's news radio
