Transcript

Welcome to the WBEZ book Club. I'm Jordan Rich. Local author Patrick McShane has penned a beautiful tribute to his late father called Five Days with Dad. Now, Patrick McShane has meanted his life's work to care for older adults. Patrick is currently the director of sales and Marketing at a senior living facility called

New Pond Village in Walpole. It's a beautiful spot. Up and out there as a speaker many times, he's written an engaging book that focuses on his own family, a big one coping with the loss of a patriarch, Gerard McShane. The inevitability of losing an elderly parent is something so many of us have to come to grips with. This is just one family story of humor amidst the heartbreak of a proud father who gets the chance to say goodbye to

his children and they to him. The story had me tearing up. The writing is exceptional and I'd recommend it to anyone who's experienced the loss of an aging parent. Five Days with Dad by Patrick McShane. That's the book Club. WBEZ, Boston's news radio
