This is the WBZ book Club. I am Jordan Rich. Last year, Robert Sapalsky released a book called Determined, A Science of Life Without free Will. Sounds a little controversial, doesn't it. It does tackle the question of predestination versus our free will, an argument that's been going on in

religious circles since time began. It's the assertion of the author that there is much less of it that is free will than we generally assume, and a lot of this is science based, with modern research of the brain showing that when people make decisions, we rely on past

behavior determined by neural responses and learned actions. The book goes pretty deep into this topic, as the author, Robert Sapalski, takes a look at what happens in the justice system, what happens when it comes to crime and punishment, the ethical dilemma if and when we sideline free will. The author does make some very convincing arguments, cleaning from various

philosophical and religious texts throughout the centuries. Determined, A Science of Life Without Free Will by Robert Sapalski The Book Club WZ Boston's news Radio
