Welcome to the WBZ book Club. This is Jordan Rich. If you follow the news, particularly geopolitical news, you know that semiconductors are one of the world's most important commodities. So in the book Chipwar, The Fight for the World's Most Critical Technology, author Chris Miller looks at the semiconductor industry the demand for products, certainly here in the West, for our defense systems and military establishments, not to mention millions of electronic devices, including the cars we drive.
We find out that the main manufacturing equipment is produced in Asia, in Japan, and a fifth of all chips are fabricated in Taiwan, which is a definite hotspot in the American Chinese rivalry, with the Communist Chinese Party hinting rather loudly that they have their eyes on the semiconductor industry in Taiwan. Who controls the chips could control the world, certainly the world's economy as we know it now. The book is called Chip War, The Fight for the World's
Most Critical Technology. The author Chris Miller, and that's the book Club. WZ, Boston's news radio
