You're listening to KFI AM six forty wake Up Call with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio app KFI and KOST HD two Los Angeles, Orange County. It's time for your morning wake up call. Here's Amy Kid. Good morning. It's five o'clock. This is your wake up call for Friday, March fifteenth. It's the IDEs of March. We're actually gonna be talking to somebody from ABC, Sherry Preston, in just a couple of minutes. She's gonna tell us what that actually means. I just know that it's March fifteenth.

I'm Amy King. Thanks for starting your Friday with us. We're almost to the weekend. Yay. I have to tell you Santa Ana wins yesterday. Boy were they blowing. But I'm so thankful because in spite of you know, trees falling down and that kind of stuff, one person hurt. We'll tell you about that in just a second, but there were no fires,

and I'm going to say thank you to the rain for that. It's always scary when the Santa Ana's kick up and the moisture levels are low and all of that, but not this year, at least not so far. Hey, have you checked out? The new Eras tour on Disney Plus premiered yesterday at six o'clock hour time. I know some of my friends were going to watch it. I didn't because I had to go to bed and I didn't want to start it and not finish it. But I think that might

be on my agenda. I'm not going to pay you to go see that concert, but I might watch it on TV. Here's what's ahead on wake Up Call. A ship carrying two hundred tons of aid has approached the coast of Gaza to open up a sea route and get humanitarian supplies into the war ravaged Palestinian territory. A judge in Florida has denied former President Trump's request to dismiss his classified documents case. Trump is facing dozens of charges for keeping classified

documents at Mar A Lago after he left office. His legal team are Guso's charges should be thrown out because of the Presidential Records Act. The judge yesterday disagreed. A system outage at some McDonald's around the world has forced some restaurants to close, and the app apparently isn't working, leading to a lot of complaints on social media. McDonald's restaurants are on a global network. Some say kiosks are not available to use, and others say they can't order on the

mobile app. McDonald says it is not a cybersecurity issue. At six oh five, it's handled. On the news, Chuck Schumer is calling for new elections in Israel, which has going over like a ton of bricks in some circles. Let's get started with some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsrooms. Strong Santa and the winds have knocked over trees across southern California. Cars and homes have been damaged in Lake Balboa, Alta,

Dina, Pasadena, and La Crecenta. One person in Pico Rivera was hurt when a tree fell on a home. A wind advisory is still in effect this morning until eleven o'clock for the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area, the San Gabriel Mountains, and the Golden State and Anelote Valley Freeway corridors. That's five and the fourteen. The Santa Clarita Valley, Malibu Coast, Calabasas and western

San Fernando Valley are also under a wind advisory this morning. A man's been arrested for allegedly attacking two children in public, including a young girl, in Santa Monica. The second attack happened on the Venice boardwalk, where a seven year old boy was punched in the head while walking with his family. An LAPD source says police responded yesterday morning and arrested the man also believed to be responsible for hitting a six year old girl on Main Street in Santa Monica Sunday.

He was described by witnesses in Santa Monica as possibly homeless and suffering from a psychotic episode. The man is charged with child abuse. Michael Monks KFI News a traffic stop in Riverside County has led to a big old gun bust. Deputies say the driver pulled over in San Jacinto Sunday had several arrest warrants out on him. Deputies searched the guy's car and say they found eight guns, ammunition magazines, and five pounds of explosives. A search of the man's

home turned up even more AMMO and explosive materials. Pomona Valley Hospital says Saint Patrick's Day weekend brings a thirty to thirty three percent increase in dui trauma that typically targets an unlucky sober person. The absolute hardest thing to do is tell a loved one that their family member has died. Pomona Valley Hospital Trauma medical director doctor Michael Jimenez says, the spike includes paralysis, lost limbs, and

even deaths. And it could be that you hit somebody, or it could be your best friend, your wife, your son, your child was in the car with you, and then later you find out that it was because of you that that person no longer lives. It's the worst feeling on the planet, he says. All this can be prevented when partiers prepare a sober ride home in advance and party coordinators prepare advance rides home for their guests.

In Pomona, Corbin Carson k if I News, of course, Saint Patrick's Day on Sunday, guessing a lot of people are going to start celebrating on Saturday, so get that d D And of course uber or Lyft always a great idea. It's five oh six on your wake up pull. Let's say good morning now to ABC's Sherry Preston. And before we get started, Sherry must say happy birthday. Well, thank you, that's very very sweet of

you. Yes, the Eyes of March has always been my birthday. You know what, that's pretty crazy because you know, you can't really say has always been because of course it's your birthday. Yeah, the date is like one of those things. Whenever I was a little kid in grade school, people would come up to me and say, beware you, beware the Eyes of March. What why do we say, be where the eydes of March? Sherry, I don't. I don't know the history of this very well

except it has something to do I don't know the history. Accept it as something to do with Julius Caesar. Julius Caesar in the play Okay on the Stay actually in forty four BC, the Eyes of March is the eyes just simply means a new moon, okay. And this was always a The Eyes of March was a celebration that they had to start the new year. It was like, you know, the end of winter, the beginning of spring.

So the Eyes of March is when they would usually celebrate it. Because the Eyes was usually between the thirteenth and the fifteenth and the forty four PC when Julius Caesar was assassinated. It was on March fourteenth and in the play by Julius by William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar passed passes this soothsayer, and the soothsayer says, you know, beware the eyes of March, and Caesar's like, oh, what does that mean? And other people are like, oh,

it's nothing, it's nothing. Well, it was a little something. I mean, Caesar is one of these people who was sort of usurping a lot of power, and a lot of the senators and the Roman council thought that he had a little too much power. So what they did is they plotted to assassinate him, and on the eyes of March, Brutus and Casius and all sixty other sixty senators in total, on the eyes of March they

stabbed him to death, all sixty of them. And they, you know, sort of started the beginning of the end of the Roman Empire when this happened with Julius Caesar. So that's how we've always gotten that. It's because Shekespeare wrote about that in his play, and that's the date that it supposedly happened, back in forty four PC. So the phrase at two boute can also be like you too, brutus, like really brutus. You were my buddy, and then you know, then you turned around and you stabbed me.

You know, other people have said different origins as well for what that means. But that's what the eyes of March actually means, and just been down through the years, people have said, beware the eyes of March. You know, some bad things have happened on this day. You know, back in I think it was like nineteen seventeen, the czars are Nicholas in

Russia. He advocated the throne and you know what happened after that, Well, wasn't too long after that that the Bolsheviks took him and his whole entire family to the euro Mountains where they eventually shot and killed them all stuff, you know, Anastasia and everything else. So that was not a very good thing. There was also the case in well, if you consider you're a TV fan, were moving ahead many many years, but he was also on

the stay in nineteen seventies one that CBS canceled the Ed Sullivan Show. It's a big deal for a lot of people because Ed Sullivan was huge. However, you are in LA so it was also the day in nineteen seventy seven. This is a little good news if you're into seventies, TV threes company debuted. Hey fucking me, say all right, anything else good happened? Or is it just basically a cursed day and just deal with it? Well, you're going to say that, since the threes companies fans out there,

I think that they would say it's a little bit better than that. But yeah, there's a lot of good things that happened. There was a band back in the sixties named The IDEs of March. Great origin story Heather song Vehicle began. The lead singers young girlfriend kept calling him up for rides and he said, you know what am I? You're limousine And somebody said, you know, limousine is not a great title for a song. What if we came up with a song called vehicle and that song became our top ten

hit. It was on Billboard charts and earned them a Grammy. So that was kind of an interesting interesting Then he ended up marrying that young woman as well. It may be married more than forty years. I love that. Okay, Well, Sherry, I know you have to go because it's your birthday and you probably have a lot of things on your docket for the day. I have a great one, you too, Thank you very much. All right, thank you so much, Sherry Preston. I will not beware

the IDEs of March. We'll see what happens here is good. Some of the stories coming back from the let me start that over. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Do you see what just happened? I said, I'm not going to be aware of the IDEs of March March, and my mouth stopped working. I might have just cursed myself. Robo taxi service Waimo has expanded driverless rides for

people in LA. The company's cars have been used in LA on a trial run since last October and since then have provided more than fifteen thousand rides way most Nick Rose says the company believes the cars are safe without a human insight, even though La County officials disagree. We focused very hard on safety, and we take a continuous improvement approach, and we take these into consideration and we continually try to make improvements to the system. The service was expanded to

areas in Santa Monica, veniceon downtown LA. People were able to catch the temporarily free rides as of yesterday, but eventually they will have to pay for the service. In La Chris Adler KFI News, Nope, not ready to take that yet. That's just me. Though. Liability claims have cost LA close to four hundred seventy two million dollars in the last three years. City Controller Kenneth Mehea says most of the money went to covering the LAPD more than

one hundred and twenty five million dollars in claims since twenty twenty. Other top payouts were from the Sanitation Street Services Department or the Sanitation and the Street Services Department. Former Treasury Secretary Steve Menuchin is putting together a bid to buy TikTok. He says he's building an investor group to acquire the app from byte Dance, the House approved to build this week. That would force the company based in China to sell the app or have the app banned in the US.

Manuchin says he thinks the legislation should pass in the Senate, which it's questionable at this point, and that TikTok should be owned by a business in the US. Russia has begun three days of voting in a presidential election that is expected to keep Putin in office for six more years. The outcome is expected because of crackdowns on independent media and prominent rights groups. People are voting in

Russia and in annexed regions of Ukraine. And speaking of annexed regions, Russia has completed its process of imposing citizenship on nearly the entire population of occupied Ukraine. Hundreds of thousands of people now have Russian passports that means men living in occupied territories can be drafted to fight against the Ukrainian Army. LA has announced

a partnership with Finland to fight climate change. Finnish Minister of Development, Cooperation and Foreign Trade Via Tavio says his nation is a natural partner for a city like Los Angeles. We are both front runners in the search for clean and smart solutions in the field of mobility, logistics, build environment and energy. The letter of intent signed yesterday identifies four areas of possible collaboration, ports,

transit, buildings, and energy grids. Speaking of transit, I was expecting a FedEx shipment earlier this week, actually last week, and I have to I'm frustrated as I'll get out with FedEx right now and tell me if this has ever happened to you. So I was supposed to get a shipment. It's from a wine club up in Oregon, and because it's a wine club, I have to be there to sign for it. You need somebody over

twenty one. And so they send you the notifications and they say, hey, your shipment is on the way and it's going to be there on Friday, and it should be there before two o'clock. And I'm like, great, okay, So I'll head home after work on last this is a week ago, and I'll you know, basically wait around because I want to make sure that I'm there to sign for it because I need my wine. And so the shipment doesn't come, doesn't come, and then I get a notification,

Oh, we've delayed it. We're gonna we're going to deliver it on Saturday. I was like, okay, fine, and so I kind of waited around Saturday, not completely. If I miss it, fine, I miss it. But then they send me another notification on Saturday, sorry it's been delayed until Monday. And I'm like, okay, fine, Monday, that's even better. And then they write back the next day and say,

oh, your shipment's on the way Sunday. I'm like, come on, So I wait around on Sunday and apparently they came by, but I didn't hear it because then I get a notice of a failure to deliver and that somebody has to be there and we couldn't drop it and we'll try again. I'm like, okay, fine, whatever. So I get a notification on Monday, Hey, your shipment's on the way, and I go home early so I can wait around. And then I get a note saying, oh,

sorry, we're not delivering it today. We're going to deliver it tomorrow. So this goes on all week, and finally on Wednesday they called me and they said, hey, we've been trying to deliver the shipment and we haven't had luck, so will you come pick it up in Arcadia? And I was like no, I paid for this, so I said no, can you try to deliver it again. They finally delivered it yesterday, and of course it said it was going to be there by one o'clock and it

got there at like five o'clock. So I basically wasted several several hours this week waiting for a shipment. But the good news is I did finally get it. I was just like, really, you want me to come pick it up? When I paid FedEx to deliver it. I'm a little frustrated. Normally I love them because they're you know, when it absolutely positively has to be there overnight. FedEx is so great about that. This time not so much. You're listening to wake Up Call on demand from KFI Am six

forty The IDEs of March. It is your wake up call. I'm Amy King. Here's what we're following. In the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Alec Baldwin says the rust manslaughter case against him should be dropped. In new legal documents, Baldwin's's the grand process in the case was rigged and witnesses were biased. If his request for dismissal is denied, his involuntary manslaughter trial would start in July. Former Treasury Secretary Steve Manuchin is putting together a bid Dubai

TikTok. His announcement comes after the House voted this week to ban the app if its parent company, Byteedance, doesn't sell the social media company within six months. The humpback whale population in Alaska has declined twenty percent in the last decade. The National Park Service says there are almost seven thousand fewer North Pacific humpbacks in the waters. Researchers say a lot of the whales starved to death during a spike in ocean temperatures that killed fish and seabirds. I don't know

if you've ever seen humpbacks like in real life. We did a trip to Alaska and oh my gosh, we saw so many of them. It was so so amazing. At six oh five, it's handle on the news. Palestinians may finally be getting a little relief as a ship approaches the Gaza shoreline packed with supplies. Let's say good morning now to abcase j O'Brien. Good morning, Jay. We're going to talk about some trouble in Gaza and also in Haiti. So let's start with what happened in Gaza earlier this week.

Do we have Jay right? That occurred in Rafa? Can you guys hear me now? We can hear you. Thank you so much, Jay, Sorry about that, Satia, no worries. Good morning. So this happened in Rafa, which is that city in the southern portion of Gaza that you know of that a number of Palestinians have fled to amid that ongoing Israeli bombing campaign. And so this was what the IDF says, the Israeli Defense Forces say was a targeted strike on a Hamas leader that was in or near this

AID warehouse. But the UN says that in addition to that Hamas leader, there were twenty two AID workers and civilians and others who were wounded in this strike. So the White House says that they are concerned by that House wants

an investigation. And it goes back to this broader theme of while the IDF says that it is conducting these targeted strikes, so often similar civilians get caught in the crossfire, as you know, And the White House has consistently had to come back to this line, which is that Israel and their view, has right to defend itself and certainly a right to go after Hamas. The White House would say. The President said that in the State of the Union

himself. But the White House is also trying to impress upon Israel the need to protect protect civilian life, and they've had to walk this tight rope really for months, and every time something like this happens, they come back to that phrase. But they just have to keep coming back to that phrase. It's not signaling much of a change we're seeing in in White House policy beyond little changes here and there. Well, and initially I think the White House's

stance too was, of course, we support what Isra's doing. They have a right to defend themselves, they need to protect the pet Indians. But when it comes down to it, they don't control what Israel does. And it sounds like it feels like they're kind of walking that back, like we need to get involved in what Israel does because this is just not it's not playing well with all the civilians that are caught, like you said, caught

in the crossfire. And I think it opens up this can of worms as to what degree, what kind of influence can Washington and does Washington have on the Israeli government. The White House would say, even now to some degree to your point that they don't control what Benjamin meton now who's decision making is

like, but what the White House's critics would say. Progressives in President Biden's own party largely a lot of whom voted for him, would say that yes, but there are levers that the White House could pull on that would have a lot of influence on Israel, like US military aid and things of that nature. Now, is that a road the White House wants to go down at a very fraught moment for Israel, both domestically here in the US but

also course in Israel after that October seventh attack. That remains to be seen, and certainly the White House has showed little interest in exploring those avenues other than trying to through diplomacy and through conversations with its counterparts in Israel try to say that the temperature needs to be brought down. Yeah, well, I think, as you said, they're walking a tightrope and they're going to continue to have to do that because I there's no signs at Israel slowing down.

Moving over to Haiti, which has been overrun by gangs and is in such turmoil that the US is expecting there's going to be a flood of migrants from Haiti headed our direction. What's the latest on that. That's the concern. It remains to be seen at this flood of migrants materializes. We know the Florida governor has sent state personnel to the shores of the Keys to prepare for

this. There was a conversation and reporting that the White House was considering using Guantanamo Bay as a facility to house migrants if they're as a refugee crisis because of that deteri rating situation in Haiti. The headline on that today is that John Kirby, the White House National Security spokesperson, said that that is not a quote unquote concrete plan. So it sounds like reading between the lines of what Kirbys saying is that that is one of a series of plans that the

White House might be considering. So they're trying to manage this ongoing deterier rating situation plan for the possibility of a migrant crisis that hasn't yet come about, while also watching the situation kind of get worse by the hour in Haiti. Well, and I'm wondering if it hasn't turned into a migrant crisis just because

it's it's so hard to get off the island and get over here. You know, you have to arrange for transportation, and I would guess that a lot of people who try to get here spend a lot of time planning on it. It's not just like a rash decision. It is And you know, I covered South Florida for years, and you know, boats of Haitian migrants showing up on Florida shores, it's pretty consistent. When I was there, it would probably be maybe even once a week. So you're right in

that those plans were months in the making. Typically, when I would talk to those migrants who traveled, they had saved up for this. This was something that they were ready to do, and they head again to your point, planned for. So I think you're right. It's interesting to see how that factor is in here. Okay, well, we'll be watching it. And Jaobrien, thank you so much for the update. Appreciate it a ton. Thank you. All right, let's get back to some of the stories

we're covering in the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Federal agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement will soon be wearing body cameras. ICE has two parts, Homeland security investigations, which handles transnational crime, and enforcement removal operations, which deports illegal immigrants. Officials say eventually all agents in the field will wear body cams

as a way to promote transparency and rebuild public trust. An official in LA tells me their ROS team is on the list to get the cameras, as well as agents along the California Mexico border. The FEDS are still working out policies and procedures, including discussions with labor unions. Steve Gregory King of Fine News, A father in Michigan has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter for killings carried out by his son at school. A jury found James Crumbly guilty on all

four counts yesterday. His wife, Jennifer, was found guilty last month in the school shooting in twenty twenty one on the same charges. ABC's Trevor Alt says the parents are the first in the US histories to be held criminally liable for their child's actions. We are now in a new day in how America responds to mass shooting and school shooting. He says, when James Crumbley heard about the shooting, he rushed home and looked for the gun, telling nine

to one to one dispatchers, I think my son took the gun. A judge in LA is allowing most of actress Leah Remeni's claims against the Church of Scientology to proceed, but has also dismissed some allegations. Remedy left the church in twenty thirteen. Her original lawsuit, introduced in August, included allegations of civil harassment, stalking, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and defamation. Scientology leader David Miskovich is also a defendant. You're listening to Wake Up Call on

Demand from KFI AM six forty eight to briotte YEP. It's the IDEs of March March fifteenth. Here's what we're following in the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. People are moving out of California in droves. Economists say the high cost of housing is driving the exodus. Census data shows Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, and Santa Clara Counties are among the top ten counties in the country with the highest levels of out migration. More than fifty six thousand people

left La County in twenty twenty three. A ship carrying two hundred tons of aid has approached the coast of Gaza to open up a sea route try to get humanitarian supplies into the war ravaged Palestinian territory. System outage at some McDonald's around the world is forced some of the restaurants to close, and apparently the AP's not working either. That's leading to complaints on social media. McDonald's restaurants

are on a global network, so it's affecting a lot of them. Some say kiosks are not available, Others say they can't order on the mobile app. McDonald says it is not a cybersecurity issue and they're working on it. At six oh five, it's handle on the news. It's election day in Russia. Yes, who's expected to win? At five point fifty We're going to find out what's new at the theaters and on the stream this weekend with ABC's Jason Nathanson. But right now it's time for us to catch up with

the house whisper and the host of Home on KFI. It's Dean Sharp. Good morning, Dean, Good morning Amy. Okay, so I'm going to do some home renovations and I can plan and plan and plan, but I better not get started until I do what Well, until you find out whether you need a permit, and then go get that permit. And also while you're getting the permit, find yourself a builder. And those are scary complex

things. Probably the scariest part I think of improving your home is that initial step into like, oh, it's just a foreign world, like what I got to do? What with the city, And where in the world am I going to find the right kind of builder? Because I've heard every horror story in the world, and so now it's me. Now it's my head that's on the chopping block. Now it's my project, and what's going to

happen? Am I going to have one of these Oh I oh, we only went four hundred percent over budget and it took ten times longer than they thought, or tractor walked away with my money. I mean, it's just nightmare after nightmare, and people are scared to death of the process. And so this weekend we're going to help you navigate through it and understand how to avoid most, if not all, hopefully of those terrors. I love that.

Okay, So when it comes to permitting, Dan, and I know you're going to go into a lot more detail this weekend on your show, But what kinds of things do you need permits for? I mean, because you know, if you want to do something around your house, I always feel like, oh, I can do just do that. I remember one time I had I had an electrician come in and put in an outlet for a home sauna. I didn't permit it. I probably should have. Technically,

Yeah, and it's a little it's a little weird. It's a little weird what it is that you need permits for. In most people's minds, at least, there's a certain logic to it, because it's really about essential systems that could cause harm if they're done wrong. That's probably the easiest way to think through would a permit be necessary here? So something as minor as oh, it's just a little electrical outlet, but it is an electrical outlet,

and so you want that done right. You don't want it short circuiting the rest of the circuit that it's connected to. You don't want it dangerously wired wrong for personal safety. That's the kind of thing that actually requires a permit. The same with moving plumbing around, heating and air conditioning stuff around, stuff that keeps your house dry, like roofing. All of these things require a permit. It's not really about how much it's going to cost.

And that's the thing that confuses a lot of people. For instance, technically, and I say this technically technically a kitchen remodel if you are gutting your entire kitchen, all of those kitchen cabinets and putting in brand new kitchen cabinetry and tile and countertops in your kitchen, but you're not moving the sink, and you're not changing any electrical None of that requires a permit because kitchen cabinets, for as expensive as they are, and I mean you can blink and

a kitchen can cost you eighty thousand dollars, but it's technically finished carpentry and it is not a permit issue. Well, it makes sense though, because like it's if it's not a electrical your house can't burn down when you're putting in new cabinets, and if it's not plumbing, then you're not going to flood the house with your cabinets. So exactly, the city doesn't really care whether your drawers come out the right way, where you store your paper towels,

or they're not that concerned about that. They're like, you know, what, that's on you, amy, but you know, don't mess with the electrical outlets. And there are varying degrees of permits by the way, too. When people think, oh, permit. They think, oh, I don't who is going to draw all of this stuff and submit plans. You know, the vast majority of permits that are pulled there are no plans

attached to them whatsoever. They're what we call over the counter permits. It's just the city basically wants you to sign up saying, hey, I'm moving three electrical outlets in my kitchen, and they count the outlets and they valuate them in terms of the permit, and they will just issue you a permit

right there, over the counter. Okay, here you go. But this means that you're on record now and the city inspector at the right time will come out and take a look and say, yep, you did these three outlets right, and check off your card and walk away and you were good to go. It's only things that are far more extensive that require plans and pages and pages of plans and all of that kind of stuff. Okay, and then let's move on to builders, because you need somebody to carry out

those plans. And how do you find a good one? Yeah, how do you find a good one? Well, here's the good news. The good news is, especially here in southern California, major metropolitan area. There are a lot of really good builders. However, there are also a lot of really not good builders and also predatory builders. So the key is this vet them, vet them, and seek out multiple bids and estimates. This is where your energy and your efforts are really going to save you hassles.

You've got to get out there and you've got to get references. You can get references from family members, neighbors who have successfully worked with contractors before, realtors who can recommend contractors to you. There are online references. I particularly, I'm not a big fan of Angie's List at this point because there have been some issues with that in the recent past. But I'm a big fan of hows houzze howse dot com. There are places where you go to your

local buildings supply center. If you're looking for a painter, go to a paint store, not a big box store, but a paint store. I was just standing in Don Edwards Paints in our town the other day and you look over on the wall and here's a wall of business cards up there. Now, what do those tell me? Not much? But I grab them. They are references, and then you check references. There's a lot of

work involved in getting a contractor right, but you call their references. You want recent references, by the way, too, because generally speaking contractors, it's small business, and small businesses can change with the win sometimes just sometimes, life circumstance can I mean, a death in the family can throw a small business out of sync as far as its reliability or its ability to be

able to serve you. So you want recent references. It's great that that contractor did a fantastic thing ten years ago, but you want to talk to the customers that they're serving right now. Okay, And then I have a question. You also probably need a lot of patience when it comes to it, because I would imagine the really good ones are booked up. Yes, And that's the other thing that you have to expect. And I you know, I always encourage our clients and our listeners that time. Time has to

be your ally in this process. If you rush, something is going to go wrong. I just ga and te at two. So time taking the time, being patient, not only to taking the time to find the right contractor, but understanding that, yeah, the good ones they are booked and just expect to get into the queue, but they will be worth waiting for. Okay, we can hear so much more about this coming up this weekend on Home with Dean Sharp right here on KFI six to eight am on Saturday,

nine to noon on Sunday. Can't wait to hear all about what I need to know before I start pounding that hammer. Thanks Amy. All right, thanks Dean. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four our newsroom. Installed fourteen million dollars sand replenishment project for shrinking beaches in San Clementy could resume by the end of the nup end of next month. The delay started in December because rocky sand was delivered to the

beach. San Clementi Mayor Chris Duncan says the concern was the dredging equipment would return to the Northwest install the project for years, and you're thinking, oh, well, another project used sand from there. Can't you just sort of pick No, you have to go back and get another permit from the State Lands Commission, Coastal Commission and everybody all over again. Duncan says the project will provide four hundred thousand tons of sand to prevent coastal erosion while protecting tourism

You're listening to a wake up call on demand from KFI AM six forty.

By the time flies when we're having fun. Thanks so much for starting your day with us today. Here's what we're following in the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Powerful Santa Ana wins made a mess around southern California, uprooting trees and knocking down power lines, wind us up to seventy one miles per hour. We're recorded. Yesterday, a tree crashed into a home in La Crecenta.

Cars and homes were also damaged in Lake Balboa, Pasadena and Pico Rivera Wind advisories remain in effect this morning for Santa Clarita Valley, the Malibu Coast, Calabasas, and the western San Fernando Valley. Windsor expected to die down this afternoon. Former Treasury Secretary Steve Manuchin is putting together a bid to buy back Ticktalk or not buy back, but just buy it. His announcement comes after the House voted this week to ban the app if its parent company,

Byte Dance Byte Dance doesn't sell it off within six months. We're just getting word into the KFI newsroom that a judge in Georgia has ruled that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis will not be disqualified from prosecuting the racketeering case against former President Trump and several co defendants, but because of the appearance of impropriety, she or the special counsel she had a relationship with, must step down from

the case. We're just minutes away from handle. On the news this morning, a SpaceX Mega rocket has disintegrated on its return to Earth. Why that's not a bad thing. Right now, let's say good morning to ABC's entertainment guru, Jason Nathanson. Jason Mark Wahlberg is the King and is expected to be King of the box office this weekend. Whoop, hold on, I can't hear. I can't hear Jason. Robin, Hey, Robin, you got Jason. All right, we're working on a little technical issue. We're

gonna try again, all right, Harry is hi, Jason. Hey, how's it going. Oh, it's good, you know, technical stuff. Sure, it's the IDEs of March, you know? Is that so they're radio gremlins on the Ads of March? I think so. We talked, Yeah, we talked to Sherry Preston earlier and she said, you know, the Ads of March, there's basically a curse on the day. And I said, I don't believe in that, and then things started happening. That's what you get I know, right, it's either that or the wind.

You can blame it on the window. Oh okay, so Mark Wahlberg, Yes, Mark Wahlberg, Well, Mark Wogger, He's not the King. Dog is the King. Oh, the dog is the King. Oh, then I'm going to go see it then, yes, Arthur the King is about a dog who well, Mark Wogger. This is based on true story.

He plays a guy named Michael Light who does this thing called adventure racing, which I did not know was the thing where you for five days, basically a team of four they go hundreds of miles and then they're biking and they're cycling and they're running and they're It just seems horrible to me, right, but this is this is what people do. And he Mark Wahlberg is

an adventure racer guy on They basically his last race. This is the last chance to kind of win and get a team together, and they go to the Dominican Republic and along the way there, you know, there's lots of street dogs, and along the way they kind of pick up this dog that becomes their team mascot. And the whole thing is about, you know, perseverance, what you can do if you set your mind to it, and you know, dogs and things like that, and it's a really nice story.

We've seen the beats of this before. It's it doesn't really offer a whole lot new, but it is a it's a nice story. It's beautifully done, the settings are are really cool and what these what everybody went through is a very inspiring story, to say the least. So I liked it, you know, and in terms of box office, it's going to be the top of the new releases, but it's not going to be anywhere near Kung g Wupanda four in its second weekend or We're Dune in its third weekend.

Okay, so worth a watch though, Yeah it's okay, I you know, I mean you could probably wait till it comes on streaming. I don't know if you need to go see it in the theater, but it's enjoyable. If you're like I need to get to the theater, well, if you need to get to the theater this weekend, I would say One Life is the is the one that you should see. Okay, what's that?

That is the story of Nicholas Winton who going into this and you see this in the trailer, so it's not really a spoiler, but I'd seen this clip floating around the internet, and I think a lot of people have of a guy on a British talk show in the eighties and he did something fantastic. We don't really know what it is because we don't have a whole lot of context in the clip, but he says the host of the show says, is there anyone here in the audience who owes their life to Nicholas

Winton? And he kind of stands up and looks around in everybody in the audience this guy had saved their life when they were kids during World War Two in Czechoslovakia. I think I've seen that, You've seen it. A lot of people have, and I think I'm crying already. I mean, it's immediate tears. And I didn't know the story behind this. And this is the story behind this guy, Nicholas Winton. He was a stockbroker in London

in the nineteen thirties. He goes to Prague just as Hitler's army was invading Czechoslovakia, and what really strikes him is what the kids are going through and what these parents they want to save their kids, and so what a lot of parents did at the time in various countries, was they sent their kids to Britain, to strangers, to the families of strangers, basically, and Nicholas Winton helped get visas for these kids ended up saving hundreds of kids' lives

when their parents perished during the Holocaust. And it's a remarkable story. A lot of people know it best is the Kinder Transport and this is kind of an offshoot of that, and this story tells the story of Nicholas Winton in the thirties, but also later in life fifty years later. He's played by Anthony Hopkins, and he's kind of dealing with remember in Schindler's List, at the end of Schendler's Lift to you know this watch could have saved one more

person and stuff like that. Nicholas went and is dealing with some of that regret that he wishes he could have saved more lives and he has to grapple with all that. And then you get to the scene with the with the talk show and you know, everybody just starts crying. I can't even talk right now, Jason, I'm crying right now. It's it's a great it's a. It's a fascinating story and it really it does it justice. And so you have Anthony Hopkins, who does a fantastic job hello, Helen A.

Bottom Carter and Johnny Flynn who plays the young Nicholas Winton. You know what, like mister Rogers already always said, look for the helpers. Yes, yeah, okay, moving over to the stream, just a real quick thing. Did did Taylor Swift break the internet last night? It seems to still be working, although it is the IDEs of March, so well we'll see. But yes, her her concert video, The Air Tour, is streaming now on Disney Plus, so you can watch that, which is fine,

and I know a lot of fans are going to watch it. For me, the most interesting part of it was seeing it in the theater with all the people. They're jumping up and down and seeing a long and stuff. It was just interesting. I don't know if it's something that I would watch at home, you know, necessarily, but but the theater experience was was a lot of fun. Okay, we've got no more time, but I want to hit both of these. There's an Abraham Lincoln movie or a

movie about the assassination of him. The series. Yes. Oh, it's a series on Apple TV Plus about the man hunt for John Wilkes Booth in the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln's assassination, which is pretty fascinating story. Did not know, Okay, good, bad? Indifferent? Yeah, no good, I liked it all right. And then also there's a documentary about someone you

might recognize, former KFI host Phil Hendry. It's a documentary coming out with a guy you might recognize in it as well, talking about him named Bill Handle, and Handle's in it. Handle is in it, Michael Krozer is in it, Crozier's in it. A couple of different KFI people are in it as well. I didn't know that. Yes, And this is it's all about Phil Henry. And what's fascinating is is I listened to Phil Henry, you know, years ago, and he loved him and his body was

so so funny. But I didn't know. Also, he influenced Bill Hayter, jud Apatow, Kevin Pollock, Henry Rowlins, like a lot of people, a lot of big names. Bill Hayter, especially in the documentary, loved him. He and John Mulaney would listen to him and he would inspire Saturday Night live sketches and things like that. So it's a if you are a talk radio fan, if you're a KFI fan, if you're a Phil Henry fan. Definitely an interesting watch, all right? And is that streaming?

Yeah, you're gonna have to look around for it. It's not easy to find, but you're gonna have to pay for it and you're gonna have to search it out. It's called Henry. It's called Hendry, all right. Jason Nathanson, thank you so much. Sure thing, take care. This is KFI and kosd HD two Los Angeles, Orange County. Did not

know the Krozier and Handle were on that documentary. You've been listening to Wake Up Call with me Amy King. You can always hear Wake Up Call five to six am Monday through Friday on kf I Am six forty and anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app
