You're listening to KFI Am six forty wake Up Call with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio app. Welcome to Monday, February twenty six. This is your wake up call. I'm Amy King. Good Monday morning for you. I hope you had a good weekend. I was kind of expecting to wake up to rain, but now we have a chance of rain a little bit later today, so and then we've got another storm headed our way for the weekend. Isn't that fun? But we'll get a break in between.

So in preparation for the rain, I decided I was going to hunker down for the weekend, and I finally started watching Yellowstone. I know it's like ten years old, Tony, don't give me that look, but I did. And now, of course I'm hooked, but I don't know that I love it as much as everybody says they that they have loved it. I love Kevin Costner, I like the show. I'm hooked. I pretty much wasted my weekend watching it. But anyway, I'll let you know what I

think when i'm done. You guys probably already know because you probably already watched. I think I'm the only one who hasn't, But anyway, here's what's ahead on wake up call this Monday morning, crews have begun putting bigger, stronger fencing around the tagged towers in downtown LA. The unfinished high rise has been covered in graffiti recently. Last week, the LA City Council approved one point eight million dollars in funding to secure the building, which someone broke into

and base jumped off of earlier this month. Cruise in San Clementi are about to start work on a one hundred and sixty foot tall retaining wall along train tracks. The goal is to create a barrier to prevent land movement and mud slides that have covered the tracks. Following recent heavy rains, the rail lines closed down until at least late March. Ronald McDaniel is stepping down as chairwoman

of the Republican National Committee. She announced this morning that she's going to resign next month after former President Trump endorsed North Carolina Republican Chairman Michael Wattley for the job. McDaniel's been the chair of the RICE since twenty seventeen. At six oh five, it's handle on the news. Nikki Haley got thumped by Trump in her own state, but says she's still in it to win it. Bill's going to weigh in on that. Let's start with some of the stories

coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Police in la are trying to find a woman who grabbed a four year old boy at a Target store in Koreatown. They say the woman put the kid down yesterday and took off when she was confronted by the boy's parents outside the store. The woman is black, about forty five foot five, one hundred and fifty pounds. A man believed to have been racing in a Chevy Camaro has been killed in a

crash that involved at least four vehicles in Resita. The crash late yesterday morning damaged some parked cars and sheared off a fire hydrant. Paramedics say eleven people were evaluated at the crash site. Six were taken to the hospital. The driver of a Dodge Charger was treated for minor injuries then booked on suspicion of murder. Nikki Haley has lost the Republican presidential primary in her home state to former President Trump, but she says that's not the end of her campaign.

She held a rally last night in Michigan ahead of that state's primary tomorrow. Okay, those first early states, they can say Donald Trump won. I give him that, but he as a Republican in coumbent didn't get forty percent of the vote of the primary. Trump won South Carolina by about twenty points on Saturday. He won every Republican primary so far. Florida Congressman Byron Donalds has defended former President Trump over some remarks the NCAA or the NAACP and others

have called racist. Trump told black conservatives on Friday that all the indictments against him have increased his appeal with black voters. Congressman Donalds told me the press, the government is going after Trump with foolishness. This is political persecution from the Department of Justice and from radical das throughout our country. This is something similar that black pepeople had to deal with the justice system themselves. Tump recently

confirmed that Donald's is on his short list of possible running mates. That spacecraft that landed on the Moon last week has tipped over. Steve Altimus says the Moonlander performed as designed, but as it touched down, one of its legs hit the surface. At the wrong angle. The vehicle is stable near or at our intended landing site. Ultimus is the CEO of Intuitive Machines, the

private company that built and launched the spacecraft for NASA. He says, the lander came in sideways and we came down and touched down at about six miles an hour with a downrange traverse of about two miles an hour. Ultimus says, nothing appears to be broken. Steve Gregory King, if I News it's five six, let's say good morning now to ABC's Jordana Miller. Jordana,

we may have movement on a ceasefire deal. What's the latest. Well, Iseel and the mediators for Hama, led by the United States, a very successful round of negotiations this weekend in Paris, and it looks like there's some room for optimism. That is that a framework has been agreed on. The deal is still not closed. There are still some gaps, but it feels like we're moving closer to a deal that would see a six week ceasefire in

the Godza stret in exchange for the release of forty Israeli hostages. Among them now all the women, not just the civilian women, but even those younger Israeli female soldiers that Israel is so concerned about, given the very credible testimony that some of them had already been assaulted in captivity. So those young girls nineteen twenty will come out, along with the elderly and the injured, and in exchange, Israel now says it is willing to release hundreds of power and

prisoners in exchange for just those forty Israeli hostages. So that is some flexibility shown on the Israeli side. We are still here in Druth form waiting to hear exactly the response from Hamas. It might take another day or two because it has to go through into the Gaza strip, the Cinoir, the head of Hamas, who's there somewhere in the tunnel Tiden, and then his response has to come back out. So we're gonna have to wait and see.

But this is a step forward for sure. Doesn't guarantee we have a deal, no, but this is the most progress we've seen in many, many weeks. Okay and Jordana, you mentioned that it was forty hostages. We know that several of them are already dead. Does it say live hostages? They are live hostages. That are out in the first round. Yes, there are alive. The bodies will come out later, okay, in another phase of this deal. Okay. And you mentioned that the two bodies you

mentioned that it's uh women are coming out. Do we have any word on US hostages or US citizens who are hostage. So there are six hostages that are still presumed to be alive, to have already been declared dead. An older couple that were on a walk in their in their community that morning of October seven. They were both murdered in their bodies taken to Gaza. The six that are alive, there's one young American man in his twenties, Kirsch

Goldberg Pollen. His parents actually lived not far from me. His arm was severely injured by a grenade on the day of the attack. But he's a medic and he was able to to close, you know, close the bleeding and walk out and be taken a hostage to to Gaza. And if be injured, he may fall into the category be injured in this first group of forty, and he may come out, even though he's technically a man. So there's a little bit of hope that maybe Kirsha will come out okay.

And as we're waiting for Hamas to respond to this net and Yahoo was on us TV yesterday saying we're going into Rafa ceasefire or not right, Well, the Prime Minister says we're going to go to Rafa and fight Hamas there. He's not going to do it during the seat fire, but he's saying that

a seat fire would only delay it. So if the seat fire breaks down and we'll go to Rafa, if the seat fire is not extended and the Israeli soldiers are not released or the body's not released and the war starts up again as well, we'll go into Rafa, not before, you know,

before they try to evacuate the civilians. And Natanielle has now begun to present the cabins, the war cabinet with those plans who don't know exactly what they are yet that they are they have been devised and they're in the process of being finalized. None of this is really imminent. So Nathaniel we have to remember Nathaniell is using the Rafa operation to put pressure on Hamas and the negotiations. That's part of the strategy here. Okay, okay, And just to

refresh everyone's memory. So Rafa is down in the far south end of by Egypt. That's right, Okay, all right, it's a city on the border, that's right. Okay. Jor Dana Miller, thank you so much. We'll keep our fingers crossed that they can come to some sort of a deal. God willing. All right, let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Four people in Riverside County have been arrested for fraud. The Riverside County Sheriff's Apartment served a search

warrant to the city of Hemmett on Saturday afternoon around one thirty. During the search, deputies allegedly found counterfeit ID cards, fake checks, and the machines used to make them. Among the ID cards were also counterfeit state and federal military credentials. But the list goes on because the department also says that they discovered modified tools that would be used to open community mailboxes. Meth, mushrooms,

and fetinal pills were also allegedly confiscated. All four suspects, all from the Inland Empire, are all facing felony fraud related charges. Andrew Caravella KFI News. Senators are said to be sworn in as jurors for the impeachment trial of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Majorcis, but it may not get much further than that. Senate leaders have shown little interest in spending much time on the effort.

House Republicans impeached Majorcis earlier this month over the Biden administration's handling of the US Mexico border. The group Human Rights Watch says Israel is not complying with an order from the UN's top court because it is failing to provide urgently needed aid to people in the Gaza Strip. The International Court of Justice ordered Israel last month to follow six provisional measures. Israel denies it is restricting the entry

of aid and has blamed humanitarian organizations operating inside Gaza. The man accused of killing a nursing student in Athens, Georgia has been ordered held without bail. Judge Donna Reel Green said Saturday. Jose Ebarra is a non citizen from Venezuela. Mister Ibarra has been charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, obstructing an emergency call, and

concealing the death of another person. The young woman Lake and Riley, disappeared Thursday while out for a jog. Her body was found the next day in a wooded area on the University of Georgia campus. AT and T says customers are getting a credit for the network outage that left tens of thousands of phone users without cell service. ABC's Chuck Steverertson says the companies apologize to customers for

the outage last week. AT and T says it recognizes the frustration the outage caused, disrupting people from connecting with family, friends, and others and filing up small business connections with customers. So AT and T says it's proactively applying a credit to their accounts for the average cost of a full day of service five dollars. The company has said the outage was caused by a coding error, not a cyber attack. It says it is taking steps to prevent any

more outages like this from happening again. Well, the SAG Awards happened again. They actually happened over the weekend on Saturday evening, and they were live streams, so it's the first big awards show to be live streamed. And SAG Awards are voted on by the actors. They're acting awards only, so you don't get like Best Director or something like that. And when we were talking to ABC's Jason Nathanson on Friday, I said, do these really have

an impact? And he said yeah, because a lot of the Academy members are also actors and so they can be a good precursor. So if this is a precursor, I think most of the awards were pretty expected. I did a tallly of like what I thought would win and then what I wanted to win, and the ones that I wanted to win didn't win that often. But the ones that I thought would win, I think I only got

two of them wrong. But kind of interesting. So the Outstanding Performance for Male in a Movie or a TV movie or Limited series, Oh wait, this was for TV, so it doesn't really count for the Academy Awards,

but I still think it was interesting. The show Beef, did you see that about the people who they get into a car crash and then how it kind of destroys both of their lives, both the female and male won Best Actor and Actress for that, and my biggest surprise of the evening was that Pedro Pascal won for the Last of Us, which I think is great because I loved him in that show, but I was really expecting one of the

Succession guys to get it. Succession won for Best Ensemble and a Drama Series, and then I wanted hot Hannah Waddington to win for ted Lasso, not only because I think she is incredible, but I love that show and I was there last year, but it was I can't say her name, io Eda Biri from The Bear, who also was fantastic. And then in the movie categories, Lily Gladstone got Killers of the Flower Moon she won Best Actress.

I think it should have been Emma Stone. As much as I didn't love Poor Things, I think Emma Stone was just phenomenal in that role. And then Killian Murphy was kind of the shoe in for Oppenheimer, even though I wanted Paul Giamatti, but Killy and Murphy want it. And then Oppenheimer won for Best Ensemble Cast, which I totally agree with. Oh and Robert Downey Junior won for Best Supporting Actor for Oppenheimer so we shall see when the

Academy Awards roll around. Are they this weekend? I think they might be. Whatever it is, I'll be watching when we come back. It's time for a little refresher course on cell phone etiquette, because yes, it is a thing, and if you're like me, you're probably already breaking the rules. You're listening to a wake up call on demand from KFI Am six forty.

Here's what we're following in the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. The De la mol Fashion Center in Torrens is cracking down on out of control teams and fights at them all. They're launching a chaperone policy starting this Friday. Anyone under eighteen has to be accompanied by an adult after three pm Fridays and Saturdays.

Nikki Hayley says she's still in it to win it. She lost to former President Trump in South Carolina's Republican primary on Saturday, but says she's a woman of her word and will continue her campaign to win the presidential nomination Michigan's primaries tomorrow. The lunar lander that touched down on the Moon last week tipped over, but operators say it's still alive and well the Odysseus Lander is the

first US spacecraft on the Moon in more than fifty years. It's transmitting data back to the NASA needs for a crude Moon mission that's planned for twenty twenty six. At six oh five, it's handle on the news and here we are again, after kicking the can down the road. The government will run

out of money on Friday of Congress doesn't agree to a funding plan. Okay, so we're gonna talk about cell phone etiquette because and producer A and I were working on a on a segment that's something that we talk about basically, and we were talking to our very own Blake Trolley or we were texting with him, saying, hey, Blake, can you hook us up? We need a contact for this. And what does Blake do? He calls us, He calls us, He calls us. And we have heard through the

grapevine that if you text Blake, he doesn't text you back. He calls you. And Anne, who is a very busy woman, said I don't

have time for this. No, not in that way. I'm just like guess, I mean, that's awesome, that's the way to get the answer right away, right, But no text, text text text text text, So I did a little digging to find out, like, because it was weird that he called an which is stupid that it's weird that he called because normally, like you said, you want an answer, you call somebody,

And that's how I am too. If I want, if I need an answer, I either call them and continue to call them, or like if you're in the office, just go chase them down until you find them, right because you get answery if my mother calls me, what is she what? What? What does she possibly need that can't be said in a text sentence? Okay, well, then let's go over some cell phone etiquette,

Anne, because I looked it up. So first of all, it is it is protocol now to text somebody before you call them, with an exception of friends or family members. So your mom has a pass on calling. Really, yes, friends and family, But if you're gonna, if you want to talk to somebody else, you're supposed to text them first. Are you available to talk right now? Exactly? Because you don't want to get in their way because everybody's so busy. And then here's something else that I

uh. If you do call, and you do, you leave a message. You're supposed to leave your full name and your phone number and not assume that just because your phone number is going to show up that they know who it is or what your first and last name is, right, which that's kind of a given right. Uh, you are not supposed to as a general rule, FaceTime anybody? Oh god, no, no, what is wrong with these people? I would never pick up a FaceTime call at home.

I mean like I would arrange it, like and I've even been on the phone with friends and they try to initiate it. And they try to initiate it, I'm like, oh no, I don't have makeup on. I don't want to do that out of here. Yeah. So and the other thing is, again, even like the conversations we used to have, I'm always dumbfounded by this because like Nick and I are pretty tight. Nick, are you there? Yeah, I'm here. I am. I don't think I've ever heard this many words out of Anne's mouth. I'm so but

speaking you understand, speaking of words out of mouths. Nick and I are pretty tight. We never talk on the phone like maybe once really once a month if that okay? Lobably yeah, and it's it's usually after we've already done the etiquette thing of like, hey, can you talk. We got to cover a couple of things real quick. So yeah, right, okay,

but it's so that's just the way of the world. Now. So here's another one that I just found out, and I don't know if you guys know this, but it is now okay according to etiquette people to use all lowercase without punctuation the bugs. That seems sloppy. It does. It just seems lazy, lazy, and too many times for me personally, if there's not a period versus a question mark, there's too many things that I'm confused by. If that makes sense, Are you asking me or telling me?

It does a lot automatically capitalize the first letter, and then if you do two spaces a, it's a, it's a period. I don't think it automatically does that. But like if you write don't, it'll put the apostrophe in there for you. Yeah, if you have the autocorrect on. But I don't know. So okay, When is it okay to leave a voicemail? Always? Never it's it's okay to leave from a voicemail. Oh

my god, I don't listen. Well, that's Exactly what this says is a lot of people don't listen to the voice transcript, right, That is why. Yeah, that's exactly why, because it's super helpful in that regard. And also you have to, like you already said, Amy, you need to leave your name and your number because even like AT and T specifically the transcript thing, it won't let the message get to the person because it's

verifying that you're actually a human being and not a robocall. So by giving those detailed information, those pieces of information, it verifies it's to your human being, okay, and it's and apparently it's never okay to leave a long winded voicemail okay, guilty as charge. I've done that a few times, okay, uh randomly FaceTime no oh, business correspondence professional. I'm not good at this. You're not supposed to put emojis in your text, but I

do almost always. Oh, I always do on texts. I do. Because you cannot convey emotion. You can't say hi, it's great to see you, or hey, I haven't heard from you for a while, because I mean even that, hey I haven't heard from you for a while, like are you mad? Exactly can you take it so many ways. Yes, exactly. Yeah. Still not okay to have your smartphone at the dinner table or during meetings and use your inside voice and watch your language when you

are talking on your cell phone. That I totally get. Yeah, okay, people shouldn't do that, Nick, I'll text you fine. Sounds good, good. It was great to hear you. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour news room. Southern California could see some light rain and mountain snow as a cold front moves through the area. Forecasters say the rain could linger into early tomorrow in the northern part of La County, but it's not expected to be as strong as recent

storms. Cool, mostly dry weather is expected until Friday and Saturday, with more substantial rain on the way for the weekend. News brought to you by Simper Solaris. A little girl has been shot while riding in a car in Santae. It happened last night near seventeenth and Spurgeon Streets. Please it's not clear if it was a drive by shooting or if someone was shooting at the vehicle. Video of the car shows at least two bullet holes, one in

the trunk and one in a rear side panel. Oppenheimer has taken the top prize at the twenty twenty four Producers Guild of America Awards. We Sank. There's a chance that when we pushed that bucking, we destroy the world. Chanzes aren't near as are. The film by Christopher Nolan, won the award

for Excellence in Producing for a Theatrical Feature Film. Other movies were up for the award last night, including Barbie, American Fiction and Adime of a Fall, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower, Moon, Maestro Passed, Lives, Poor Things, and The Zone of Interest. Hulu's The Bear took the top award for a Comedy Series which follows SAG. Both Oppenheimer and The Bear won awards for the Best Ensemble Casts at the SAG Awards on Saturday. When

we come back, Worl'll be checking in with ABC's Stephen Portnoy. Nikki Haley got smoked in the South Carolina Republican primary, but she's not given up. You're listening to a wake up call on demand from KFI AM six forty. Good morning, It's five thirty six. I'm Amy King. Thanks for joining us. On wake Up Call. Here's what's ahead In the KFI twenty four hour newsroom, crews have been putting bigger and stronger fencing around that tagged towers

in downtown La. The unfinished high rise has been covered in graffiti recently. Last week, the La cit Council proved one point eight million dollars in funding to secure the building. A two year old girl has been shot while sitting inside a car in Santa Anna. The shooting happened around eight last night. Police say they think it may have been a drive by or a car to car shooting, but they don't know for sure. Two bullet holes were seen

in the car, which was spotted outside Children's hospital in Orange County. Two identical bills have been introduced in the California legislature, one in each house to get rid of the time change. Both call for moving the state permanently to standard time and dishing daylight saving time. Voters already approved the idea in twenty eighteen, but it's up to lawmakers actually make it law. At six oh five at Handle on the News, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says they're they're going

into Rafa with or without a cease fire. At five point fifty, we're going to be talking with a volunteer with the Mohave National Preserve about what camels are doing in our deserts in California. Right now, let's say good morning to ABC's Stephen portnoy Steven. A big win for Donald Trump in South Carolina.

As expected, Donald Trump won, and not just with a significant margin over his opponent, Nikki Haley twenty points, but also when you look at the delegates, BC News projects that of the fifty delegates that were in play for the Republican Convention, Donald Trump won forty seven of them. Nicki Haley won just three. She won in just three of the state's forty six counties in South Carolina, state where she twice was elected the governor, so she's

staying in the race. Tomorrow's contest in Michigan is the next one, and then, of course, a week from tomorrow is the Super Tuesday contest in more than a dozen states, including the biggest of California. In many of these contests, there are rules that are favorable to a frontrunner such as Donald Trump. In fact, in the state of California, with one hundred and sixty nine delegates at play, if the statewide winner tops fifty percent its winner

take all. Donald Trump achieved that in South Carolina, he could perform as well in your state, Well, then he'll walk away with all one hundred and sixty nine delegates. So between now and next Tuesday, Niki Haley is going to be spending time in states that have different rules, for example, Texas, where it's winner take all by congressional district if you win a majority

of the votes in that congressional district. So she's going to be playing in places I imagine like Austin and Houston and Dallas metropolitan cosmopolitan areas where she can hope to perform better than Donald Trump in those places and try to win as many delegates as she possibly can. But all this is happening as the influential Coke backed network Americans for Prosperity Action said over the weekend that it's no longer going to support Nikki Haley, having given money to her effort for months.

They're going to and these are this is me putting words in my mouth in their mouth find other places to spend their money more efficiently and effectively. Are they Trump supporters? I mean they were Haley. But are they gonna now support Trump. No, no, they're not. But the idea is they're no longer backing Haley and they're going to put resources, perhaps into statewide and

congressional races. The other element of news this morning is that Donald Trump is now urging Republicans to rally behind his choices to lead the Republican National Committee. Ronald McDaniel, who's led the party as its chair for the last eight years, is stepping down at the end of next week at the former president's urging.

His choices include Michael Wattley, who is the chair of the Republican Party in North Carolina and a big time election denier, and Lara Trump, who is the former president's daughter in law, is his choice to be co chair of the party. Originally, didn't we hear that he wanted her to head the party. Well, the rules have it that you have to have two different genders in the chair and co chair role. So he's decided that he would rather have Michael Wattley as chair and then Laura Trump as co chair.

It's not up to him, though, it's up to voters of the Republican National Committee. It's the former president's endorsement. However, that carries a lot of weight, right and for Nicki Hayley. So the Koch brothers who have a ton of money, they're pulling their funding. That could get in her way because she was even though she wasn't winning, she was still getting funding,

so why not keep going? Well, that's why she's going to She still has campaign cash to spend, and she's going to be spending more than at least a million dollars. I'm not sure exactly how many much. It's been described as a seven figure sum on television and radio advertising in the key states that are voting next Tuesday. And that's her right, it's her opportunity,

and she'll do it. And then likely a week from Wednesday, we'll be speaking on this station at this time to describe all the states where Donald Trump. Okay, and we will look forward to it. Stephen Porteno, I thank you so much. All Right, let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Of vigil has been held in Westlake Village for the two young brothers killed by Rebecca Grossman.

She was found guilty Friday of murder and other charges for the crash in twenty twenty that killed Jacob and Mark Iskander. Family friend Jennifer Nagel tells KTLA the boys parents are thankful for the support, but we're not up to being at the vigil yesterday. Just affected so many people, so many waves of this tragedy going through everybody. It affected me personally. Mark used to play at my house. Grossman is facing up to thirty four years to life in prison

when she sentenced. In April. News brought to you by Simper Solaris, a study by the National Association for Business Economics shows twenty twenty four looks to be a better year for the economy than experts were forecasting just a few months ago. The survey found the economy I mean looks set to grow two point two percent this year after adjusting for inflation. That's up from an earlier projection of one point three percent. The Supreme Court is set to hear cases related

to the content social media companies should allow on their platforms. ABC's Derek Dennis's Texas and Florida are pushing laws that would ban social media companies from restricting contents. The Florida law bans tech companies from suspending the accounts of political candidates. The Texas law makes it illegal for tech companies to remove political content based on

someone's viewpoint, even if it's hate speech. Supporters of the laws say social media platforms have been censoring users, especially those with conservative or religious views. People in New York have been leaving flowers, letters, and other items remembering Flocco the Owl at his favorite tree in Central Park. The Eurasian eagle owl died last week when it flew into the side of a building in Manhattan then hit the ground. I would bet that if Flaco could choose, he would

choose his year of freedom. Even though he died, he died free, as opposed to being trapped in a cage alone. Flocko had been flying over the city since February of last year, when someone broke into the Central Park Zoo and freed him. Police they're still trying to find whoever did that. You're listening to Wake Up Call on Demand from KFI Am six forty. Get in your day and your week started with us. Here's what we're following in

the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. The Dilomo Fashion Center in Torrents is cracking down on out of control teams and fights at the mall, and is launching a chaperone policy starting this Friday. Anyone under eighteen has to be accompanied by an adult someone twenty one or over after three pm on Fridays and Saturdays. AT and T is offering customers affected by last week's network outage a five dollars credit. AT and T says a software update is to blame for more than

seventy thousand customers losing sales service across the US last week. AT and T says the credit will show up on your bill in one to two billing cycles. The lunar lander that touchdown on the Moon last week tipped over, but operators say it's still alive and well. The Odysseus Lander is the first US spacecraft on the Moon in more than fifty years. It's transmitting data that NASA needs for a crude Moon mission planned for twenty twenty six. We're just minutes

away from handle. On the news this morning, Governor Newsom is starring in a national ad campaign. Wonder why right now let's say good morning too. Jennifer la Gusker, who is a volunteer in the Mojave National Preserve. Good morning, Jennifer, Good morning. So it's not unusual to see a camel in the desert, but it is unusual to see camels in the Mojave Desert. There's a lot of people would say that there is a history out there though, with camel's being in that part of the world. Believe it or

not, we used to have camels, we did. So they were to get back to the Ice Age. The great this cousin of the camel was roaming this area in North America, then over the Bearing Street, you know, all of that was vised over. They headed over to the Old World. That's how we got them in Africa, India, and then in the eighteen fifties, right before the Civil War, they were reintroduced and shipped over. Everyone was making that you know, big grand trek over to the West

with where there were many big promises. But in order to do that you would have to go through the Majave, through death valley courses. Neils, donkeys weren't cutting it. So camels rocked that truck. Okay, So let's talk about why you have camels in the Majave Desert now. And this is a I wanted to talk to you because this is such a cool like a circle of life kind of thing, or at least has its origins in that.

But why do we have camels going into the desert now? So in the places so twenty twenty over for forty thousand acres of the preserve burned to lightning, and that's you know, possibly connected to you know, global warming, and just because everything is extra extra dry out there and there are so there. The preserve is part of this new project where they're trying to replant baby Joshua trees to revitalize that area that was burned. It's never been done

before and it's a four year project. So there are certain areas of the preserve where you can't have vehicles, you know, no ATVs, no cars go through. So a front of mine Man's site is actually the one that has really the heart. Her heart is out in the in the preserve. And then she loves camel So she introduced this idea to me, Hey, can the camels carry these baby uh you know plants out into the desert with water? And I said, of course, what better way to show the

camel's you know ability that than to do this project? So that's why they're out there. That's so cool. So but and they work better because of the sand and the terrain. Camels are much better suited for this than horses or pack mules exactly. And I mean people, people aren't. We did use horses or mules in the first year, so twenty twenty four is going to be at the fourth of last year. The thing is that camels have padded feet there. They don't have hooks, So that's one of the many

adaptations that camels have to exerting less energy going through the desert. So instead of like having their their their hooks, you know, sinking or you know what, have you these pads? How do I explain it? I know, I know, it's like snowshoes but on the sand. Yeah, exactly, that's exactly. I love that analogy taking it. Yes, I just thought of it. How smart am I? Okay, So, Jennifer, then, so how many Joshua trees have you planted? And do you have

any idea of how much success you've had? Because it is dry and well, they don't need a lot, they do need some water, that's right. So the project, So I believe the last time I spoke to the one of the lead bonds. It's like eighty percent of them did not make it the first year. And again this is the first time attempt in this replanting, you know, the project, and every year's gotten a little better, you know, Like the first year, for example, we had four

different methods of planting to see which one would work better. The first method was just planting the baby, you know, without anything around it. Second was having a cage around it, third was having a cage around it with a baby nursery tree right next to it. And then the fourth method was no cage, just the plant baby nursery plant. So they wanted to see which one had a better rate of survival. The cage definitely helps the nursery

plant. This did not seem, you know, to affect the survival rate. So every year it's gotten a little better. Last year, well, between two camels, they carried over twenty trees between them, and each tree was weighing about five pounds. Third camel was in charge of pilling the water. So again trying to you know, figure out which method works. They do have to get watered and that really I'm not sure how often they're going out to do that just because the camels are part of it's a one year,

you know visit. Then the preserve does have human volunteers that go out and water that throughout the year. I just don't know how often, Okay. And then the other thing that I thought was really fascinating about this, Jennifer, is that you would mentioned that Campbell's used to be here, and like we said, you know, we see him in the deserts over in Africa and India, but they used to be here, and in a different way, they used to help like spread the seeds that you know that kept

the Joshua trees growing. So and I have to tell you that is needs to me because the credit always goes to the giant ground slow the giant Yeah, okay, yeah, and these are our eight their series, right,

because there is no proof that they actually did it. But I was part of another interview and they uh, they went ahead and talked to the Labria tarpet like a specialist that that knows about that time, and they're saying that the that the distant camel cousin might have also played a role in spreading the seed, which I thought, how perfect is that to have these new age camels help with the replanning the restoration project, right, And so the theory

is that the animals eat the seeds and then they you know, poop them out and then that's like fertilizer in its seeds and spreads the seeds. And now we don't have camels in there, and we don't have giants loss, So who's going to repopulate the Joshua trees? Oh, it's the yuka moth and a little tiny squirrel. So it is quite the undertaking for it's such little animals, you know, compared to the the ground floth and the distant

camel cousin. And that's the reason why botanists are are so concerned, because there's only so far that the little you know, desert squirrel can got guy, I know, and then and let alone the Yuka moths. So you know that that is the concerning part, whether or not be certain. And and and this fire was one of there was another fire believed last year, the York fire, that also took out you know, acres of Joshua trees.

So that is the concern whether or not we can restore these vast areas just because we don't have the swaths in the cameloid of the ice age. Well, we've got a few camels and we have some people who are volunteering and trying to preserve the Joshua trees, which are so spectacular looking. One of my brothers of photographer and one of his favorite places to go is out into the desert to take photos of the Joshua trees because they're just so cool.

So they are, and you know, people don't realize, you know, the common person things, well, desert, you know it's dry, no life, but it's the complete opposite. There's so much life out there and to see, you know, some of these deserts come out with beautiful colored flowers. It's just most people don't realize it. And that's one of the reasons that's that attracts me so much to the desert. And I am

honored to be part of this project. Jennifer's there some where people could go if they want to find out more information about about what your group is doing. Uh yeah, so the National Park Services is definitely the website to go. So they want to be a part of this last year of volunteering to replant these trees. Then I own reptacular animals and we do educational when they're

not out volunteering. We go out into the inner city communities and do educational presentations to expose the communities, you know, of the greater Los Angeles the animals they've ever seen before. So uh, it's Rectacular Animals dot com uh and also our our our social media reacular. It's at Rectacular Animals where I usually post things of upcoming events, just like the restoration project. Awesome, Jennifer lec Oskar. Thank you so much for what you're doing and for your

time this morning. We learned something I love this yay. Thank you so much for having me. Take care. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour News from students at a middle school and Beverly Hills. You're accused of creating and sharing AI generated nude photos of classmates, and email sent last week to parents at Beverly Vista Middle School

says the images superimposed the faces of students onto AI generated nude bodies. One eighth grade student says it might be animated, but a couple of the images look real. Police are investigating an active duty member of the US Air Forces set himself on fire outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, d C. He's in critical condition. The airman said yesterday he would no longer be complicit to genocide. Officials say they believe the man started a live stream, set down

his phone, then doused himself with an accelerant. He was allegedly heard shouting free Palestine as he burned. Israel has denied genocide allegations and says it is carrying out operations in Gaza in accordance with international law. Sylvester Stallone says he's leaving California for good. The announcement came in the season two premiere of The Family Stallone, where Dad broke the news to his three daughters. He told

them mom and Dad are relocating to Florida. Stallone bought a thirteen thousand square foot home in Palm Beach in twenty twenty for more than thirty five million dollars. Thirteen thousand square feet. Okay, you're ready for free wings? Do you remember this?
