You're listening to KFI AM six forty wake Up Call with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio app Wednesday, March thirteenth. Good morning, I'm Amy King. It's five o'clock straight up. Time to get up, get going. I got my coffee ready to go. Got a lot ahead today. Here's what we're working on on wake Up Call. This stage has been set. President Biden and former President Trump each clinched their party's nomination, setting up

the rematch of the twenty twenty election. Recent polls showed the two or basically in a dead heat in the race. It'll be the longest general election campaign ever. Other polls also show that voters would prefer that neither one of them would run for president. Students have jumped fences to get away from the Taft High School campus in Woodland Hills following an Instagram threat that someone was planning to

shoot up the school during the fourth period. LA District officials say the threat that caused the panic was not credible, but extra parole patrols are being added on and around campus as a precaution. The Dodgers and Angels haven't fared too well in a new study that ranks stadiums based on their concessions. The study looks at how many concessions are available plus the prices of beer and hot dogs. Angels Stadium ranked twenty fifth on the list of thirty, the Dodgers twenty

seventh. The best park for concessions in the country Seattle's t Mobile Park at six oh five. Its handle on the news Robert F. Kennedy could tap a quarterback or a wrestler to be his running mate. Let's get started with some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour Newsroom. Trial has been set for film director Roman Polanski, who's accused of raping a minor

at his home in la in nineteen seventy three. The woman making the allegation says Polanski gave her tequila before and during a dinner date, and when she started feeling sick, he took her back to his home and led her to his bedroom. The woman, known only as Jane Doe, said it took a long time to make the decision to expose what he did to her, but I finally did make that decision, and I decided that I want to file it to obtain justice and accountability. Polanski was served with a lawsuit in

Paris, France, last September, where he remains a US fugitive. Because this is a civil suit, he won't be required in court for trial next summer. Chris Adler KFI News. An appeals court has reaffirmed the ruling that Anaheim did not violate state open meeting laws during a deal to sell Angel Stadium. Anaheim's Aaron Ryan says it's the second court to reject a lawsuit's claim that the one hundred and fifty million dollars deal was secretly done behind closed doors.

There were serious allegations, but a lot of statements made with the lawsuit and those were not found to be credible. We welcome the court's decision. The course I found that Anaheim did it right. We followed the Brown Act. Last week, the court criticized Anaheim's decision to accept six hundred and forty three emails as public input instead of also offering public comments by video like they did during the pandemic. The Angel Stadium deal eventually collapsed, and the mayor at

the time pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges. President Biden says the US is sending another three hundred million dollars in weapons to Ukraine. Package includes munitions and rounds help Ukraine hold the line against Russia's brutal attacks for the next couple weeks. The Pentagon says it found some cost savings in its contracts to be able

to provide more weapons. Officials say the additional aid comes as the military remains overdrawn and needs at least ten billion dollars to replenish all the weapons it's already pulled from its stocks to help Ukraine fight Russia. Downtown LA has had more than seventeen million visitors in the last year. The annual survey by the DTLA Alliance shows the average length of stay for out of towners was just over two days, with folks from San Francisco and New York City visiting the most.

Executive Vice president Nick Griffin says outside people see downtown as a destination even if the rest of the city doesn't. Other cities recognize that the downtown is key to what they are and to their economic viability. In some way, I think that the city was just doesn't fully grasp that. The downtown residential population

is now estimated to be eighty thousand. Michael monks KFI News. So, as you know, if you've been listening to Wake Up Call, we've been following the Big Bear bald Egle cam for well about a month and a half now and Jackie in Shadow great parents. They're the bald eagles that live in the nest about one hundred and forty five feet up a tree that overlooks Big Bear Lake, and they laid three eggs this year and thousands of people have been watching the Big Bear bald Egle Cam. I've been one of them,

and producer and is one of them. Several people around the office are watching them, and sadly we got a post that as of Monday afternoon, there had still been no confirmed pips in any of the eggs. That's when the eaglets start to break through the shell. This is later than Jackie's eggs have hatched in the past, and so Big Bear the friends of Big Bear Valley are saying it is probably unlikely that any of the three eggs are going to

hatch at this time. They say that miracles do happen, so you never know, but it's probably not going to happen, and they wrote this beautiful I'm not sure if this was Sandy Steers, who's the executive director of Friends of Big Bear Valley, but whoever wrote it, it was a beautiful little narration of what was going on in the nest. And she or they said, it's not a matter of giving up. It is simply a matter of taking what is in front of us and moving forward, just the way Jackie

and Shadow do. And they also going to say that with the nest camera, they're observing Jackie in Shadows everyday journey and it's been such a great journey to watch. And as of right now, they're still on the nest, they're still protecting the eggs, they're still switching off, they're still doing all of those things just in case. But at this point the eggs are probably not viable. And as to why the eggs haven't hatched, they say they

have no way of knowing. It could be environmental, it could be biological. But she said, or they said, we're going to continue watching and learning and enjoying Jackie in Shadow as we see what happens next. And even without new baby eglits, they are an amazing pair and so fun to watch, and you can always watch it at the Big Bear Eagle camp. Let's say good morning now to ABC's Tom Rivers. Tom, we were just talking

about this after twenty days in Mariupol won an Academy award. That Ukraine isn't really front and center in the news right now, but the fighting continues and Ukraine is making some efforts to take the fighting into Russia. Exactly, very very disturbing, but basically it comes with asymmetrical attacks a few days before the

Russian national elections with your Friday, Saturday and Sunday. These one case an incursion, another case a wave of drones are not going to affect the election, but they just want to get their message across that Ukraine is still here, and I just want to make a note of that, even though it looks like Putin is obviously going to win another six year term. On the ground, a cross border incursion attempted by the Ukrainians ended very very badly by

the Russian numbers. Two hundred and thirty four personnel shot and killed on the Ukrainian side, seven tanks blown up, three Bradley fighting vehicles. They were knocked out of commission two other APCs as well, So a real bloody nose for the Ukrainians on that score. On the drones, yes, the Ukrainians, you know, with Western backing. And of course, couple of months ago the UK said they'd be shipping over hundreds of additional drones. And it

may well have been one in this case, we don't know. But it flew a long distance four hundred miles into Russian soil and attacked a couple of oil refineries, one of which about one hundred and twenty five miles southeast to Moscow. Two people slightly injured there. It caused the fire that was put out a couple hours later. So, yes, this stuff is carrying on, and it's now as you say, getting onto the Russian side, or in the case of the ground troops, very close to what is now wrought

western Russia. And we just start finding out that the White House has found three hundred million dollars so they can send some more weapons to Ukraine. In the grand scheme of things, how much does three hundred million dollars worth of weapons help? Not much? And it is kind of interesting, don't you know. The accountants of the Pentagon, they seem to find you know, money under rocks all the time, with you know, some regularity. But

yeah, that's the latest. Three hundred million is not going to change the outcome of this war. Okay. And then just as a refresher, that three hundred million is a bit of a band aid, but there is is it? How much is on the line in that funding bill? Is it's not sixty billion sixty million. I think it's sixty sixty four billion, sixty four billion, So three hundred million is like nothing, nothing exactly. I

mean put it in context. A number of the countries, France, the UK, they've got different timetables, but they all chuck in about two or three million excuse me, two or three billion per year, and the UK said they're going to do that for at least three years. France says we're going to do that for ten years. But that's the drop in the bucket of something like sixty four billion of one time shot. And there's going to be other one time shots down the road for the US taxpayer as well.

Okay, and Tom, from what you're seeing, for a while, it seemed like Ukraine was making some advances, but we haven't heard any of that. Are they taking back any land? Are they losing ground? Well, again, they're not they're not making any real progress and this thing is gonna, you know, carry on carry on as of right now. Again, it is still a special operation that is not a total war. If Russia

wanted to really really ramp this thing up, they could. They are trying to just secure is, you know, the eastern side of Ukraine at this stage. And that's kind of the motors Operendi they've been going with for two years now. So no real change. Again. Russia occasionally gains a little bit more land, but nothing dramatic. As for the Ukrainian side, No, it does not look very good at all. Right now, all right, ABC's Tom Rivers, thank you so much for the information and the update.

Appreciate it, Dick you all right, let's get back to some The story is coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Gusty Santa Ana winds are headed to the Southland. A high wind watch kicks in tonight and lasts through tomorrow afternoon in the eastern Santa Monica Mountains, the Malibu Coast and the San Fernando Valley. Wins also expected to blow in Santa Clarita Valley,

Calabasas and the Five and fourteen freeway corridors. Winds gusting up to about sixty miles per hour are expected, with isolated gusts up to seventy five miles per hour. A six year old girl has been attacked by a homeless man in Santa Monica. The girl and her family were visiting over the weekend when the man suddenly punched the little girl in the face. This woman is a family friend and tells KTLA it was awful. I was afraid he was going to

hit her again. I was afraid that I was afraid that my friend was going to get hurt protecting his kid. The family had just left an ice cream shop when they walked past the man, who was on a bus bench. She just walked away after the assault. A new bill has been introduced in California to regulate active shooter drills at schools. Assembly Member Chris Ward says

the drills sometimes include role playing with fake guns and blood. Now, when it comes to fire drills in our schools, we don't invent actual things on fire and put smoke in the hallways and turn up the thermostat we should not be doing the same to our kids. When it comes to active shooter drills. Ward says research shows the drills have been linked to increased anxiety in students.

He says the Safe and Prepared Schools Act would prohibit simulated gunshots, would require drills to be age appropriate, and require schools to notify parents, teachers, and students that there was going to be a drill. Puberty blockers have been banned for miners in the UK. The country's National Health Service announced the decision yesterday, saying the blockers will no longer be permitted outside of clinical trials. This comes as protests have increased against the treatment. In the US,

spring has not yet sprung, but allergy season has. Doctor Darien Sutton says people have been feeling symptoms earlier than usual. Normally, allergy season should start during the month of April, but given the fact that we've seen warmer climates, we've had a limited number of freeze days, so that means that the plants to treat the pollen out there have not frozen as much as they normally do. The USDA says allergy seasons have twenty one percent more pollen than three

decades ago. About eighty one million people in the US were diagnosed with seasonal allergies in twenty twenty one. You know, I think I have allergies now. I never had them as a kid, but now I have them. And when I go to the doctor, they go, oh, you have some postnasal drip. I'm like, what the heck? I never had those. I hate that you develop them. Later. Hey, when we come back, we're going to be talking to KTLA's tech reporter Rich DeMuro and how

tech is going to help you find the best restaurant ever. Can't wait to hear about that. You're listening to Wake Up Call on Demand from KFI Am six forty. Here's what we're following in the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. A man has been convicted of killing his four children and his mother in law while she was babysitting. Jermarcus or David turned himself into the Lancaster Sheriff's Department after killing the one, two, seven, and eleven year old children and

their grandmother in November of twenty twenty one. He was convicted on eight charges, including five counts of murder. A three hundred million dollar weapons shipment is being sent to Ukraine. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan says the funds come from savings the Pentagon was able to identify in army budgets. He added, it's only a temporary fix and Congress still must pass the Emergency supplemental, which includes

about sixty billion dollars for Ukraine in its war with Russia. Speaking of big money, there was no winning ticket sold in the Mega Million's drawing last night. That pushes the jackpot for the next drawing on Friday up to seven hundred ninety two million dollars. There hasn't been a jackpot winner in Mega Millions in the last twenty seven drawings. Tonight's powerball drawing is worth five hundred and fifty nine million dollars, not too shabby At six oh five. Handle On the

news, Florida is on high alert as Haiti continues to fall apart. Right now, let's say good morning to the host of Rich on Tech right here on KFI and KTLA's tech reporter Rich Demiro. So, Rich, you have a way to find a great restaurant and it's all thanks to AI. Yeah, and this is a great app in general if you are just dabbling in AI. It's called Perplexity AI and it's just one of the better apps out there because you can ask it questions and it kind of guides you with that

question. So if you don't exactly know what you're trying to ask, it will help you with that. But then it pulls information from various sources and

it pulls it all together. It shows you where it's getting this information on like a lot of AI, but they have Yelp built in now, and this is really cool because now instead of searching Yelp for say, best barbecue restaurants in Austin, you could search perplexity and not only will it take into account what Yelp says, but it will also look at a whole bunch of other food websites and things like that to come up with a really well rounded

answer. Okay, so and then does it It gives you a top ten list or just kind of a list of the best I You know what I call these AI answers book reports, because that's basically what they are are. They are looking at all the information from a whole bunch of different places and they almost come up with a little book report. You know, the web

is just links. Yeah, so you might if you search best barbecue in Austin, you'll probably get a whole bunch of you know, just blue links back that say, hey, the best barbecues here, the best barbecues here, the best barbecue here. This gives you kind of like a full answer, like here's why this is the top barbecue place. Here's why people like this place because of the ambiance. And you can do this with any city. So I just looked up like best hikes in Hawaii with kids. I

mean, there's a whole bunch of things you can do. I think having that Yelp information is really nice because it adds a nice dimension of reviews to these answers. Yeah, and sometimes when I go and I look through Yelp, it just gets to be too much for my little brain. Oh yeah, it's a lot by the way. You look through Yelp and one person says this is the best place I've ever been, and the next person says one star the worst, and you're like, wait what Yeah, so this

this hopefully kind of helps you out. Have you searched for best restaurant in la I actually I was going that's a good question. I think that's such a subjective thing. But let's see, I'll do best steakhouse in Los Angeles. How about that? No, I want to go now. I mean, there's like, there's so La is such a big place, and I think it's really tough to even but let's see what they say. See now it says, understand the question what type of steakhouse casual or fine dining.

I'm gonna say fine dining. Do you have any dietary restrictions? I'm going to say no. And so now it's looking for the best fine dining steakhouse in Los Angeles. It found seventeen sources and as we wait on live radio here for the answer, of course, it takes longer than it usually does. But maybe we'll have to come back because it's still it's still searching. That's oh, here we go for a fine dining steakhouse in Los Angeles. Steak forty eight and Beverly Hills stands out. Never heard of that. I

heard of it. Okay, well, there you go. Another notable mention is the penthouse that Mastros and Beverly Hills. Of course, that's a very popular place. And let's see, is there one more that it's coming up with. It's writing all of this in real time, by the way. Okay, those are the top two it gives. So there you have it,

all right. Good to know masters always a good bet. Okay, So there's a new website that hopefully is going to help you because I know that I have run into this where your computer's slow and everybody's saying we have the fastest internet, but who really does? Yeah, and I think this is a great website. So if you've ever gone to that website speed test dot net, you know, to do a quick speed test to see what's

going on. They have now taken all of that behind the scenes information and created a new website that reveals the all the data on internet providers in your zip code. Now, I'll just fair warning this does not work for every single zip code in Los Angeles. There are some spots where it doesn't work. But this is brand new, it's only about two days old. But what's nice is you pop in your zip code and it will show you all

the providers with real world speed test results. What does that mean? Instead of seeing what they advertise on TV or the radio, you can actually see what real people are getting for their download speeds and more importantly, their upload speeds. Because all of these people only advertise the download which is always really fast. If you're working with video or anything like that, like myself or

your business, you may want a faster upload speed as well. So it reveals those numbers too, okay, And that's at speed test, dot net speed Test, dot net slash Performance. I also link it up on my Instagram at richon Tech. If you check my stories. Love that that'll make it easier to find. And this is always a cool thing. You score points, or you earn points with your credit card, and you earn points and then you want to go on vacation and then you don't know how to

use those points to do that. Yes, impossible to use every single time, or you just don't know if they're a good deal to use, or it's just you know, it's kind of a pain. But anyway, two websites to know about. One is called points Yeah Points Yeah dot com. And this is an instant free, you know website that searches. You can

even narrow down by your credit card or airline program. So if you have Chase points, you can say, oh, I just want to see how I can use those, or if you have Capital one miles, you can see how you use those, or if you just have United miles. You can see how you can use those. It's it's kind of limited on the free search. You got to log in if you want some more, and then if you really want the everything, you got to pay a little bit

for the year. There's another one called point dot me, very similar. I use this one all the time. Point dot me, and this one is really great for finding the cheapest way to fly with your points. It's a really great website. Again. You know, you can get three searches for free. No one's giving this stuff away for free in a big way because it's it's expensive to to do this kind of search. Okay. And this is for mileage or is it for also for vacation points like I don't

know, like Hilton Honors has hotel points and stuff like that. This is just for airline points. Yeah, so both of these work with airline points. Yeah. So these are just for flights, okay. And we can find these on your website. Of course. It's Rich on tech dot tv and you can listen to more of Rich. He is our tech reporter and the host of Rich on Tech here on KFI Saturdays from eleven to two. Thank you so much. Rich, all Right, Amy, have a great

day, all right, you too. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. The political stage is set and it will be a rematch for the White House in twenty twenty four. President Biden and former President Trump each clinched their respective parties nominations yesterday. Now we have to get back to work because we have the worst president of the history of our country. His name is Joe Biden, sometimes referred to

as croocket Joe Biden, and he must be defeated. Trump says he would close the border, drill baby drill, and pardon people convict in the January sixth attack on the Capitol. On Day one, Biden issued a statement warning that freedom and democracy are at risk here at home in a way they have not been since the Civil War. Recent polls show that two are basically in a dead heat for the White House race. The La Innocence Project is argued

DNA evidence could prove convicted killer Scott Peterson is not guilty. Peterson appeared by video in San Matteo Superior Court. Innocence Project lawyers yesterday asked for DNA testing they say could prove Peterson didn't kill his wife, Lacy and their unborn son in the Bay Area back in two thousand and two. The case and trial drew national attention twenty years ago and inspired TV movies and specials. Peterson was

originally sentenced to death, but is now serving life without parole. A hearing on the DNA issue was set for May twenty ninth. Michael Monks KFI News, Paul McCartney and The Eagles will headline Keep the Party Going, a tribute to Jimmy Buffett. It's happening April eleventh at the Hollywood Bowl. Other performers Eric Church, Brandy Carlyle, John bon Jovi, and Kenny Chesney. Of

course, Kenny Chesney and Buffet were good buddies. Buffett's touring and recording band, The Coral Reefer Band, will be part of the All Star concert. Ticket pre sales today. General on sale is Friday. When we come back, Amy's on it. I'll be taking a look at something old and something new, and how those two look a lot of light. You're listening to a wake up call on demand from KFI AM six forty. Here's what we're following. In the KFI twenty four Hour newsroom. The stage has been set.

President Biden and former President Trump have each clinched their party's nomination, setting up the rematch of the twenty twenty election. Recent polls show the two or basically in a dead heat in the race. It's going to be the longest general election campaign ever. A federal judge in San Diego has struck down a

California law that bans people from buying more than one gun per month. California will likely appeal the decision over the next month, but there could be other state gun laws overturned based on similar arguments that state gun policy has to be consistent with the Second Amendment. On the national level, the Dodgers and Angels haven't fared too well. In a new study there ranks stadiums based on their concessions. The study looks at how many concessions are available plus the prices of

beer and hot dogs. Angel Stadium ranked twenty fifth on the list of thirty, the Dodgers twenty seventh. The best part for concessions in the country Seattle's t Mobile Park at six oh five. It's handle on the news. You've all these police chief has resigned even though his officers were cleared of wrongdoing in

the rob Elementary High School massacre. At five point fifty, we're going to be checking in with ABC Stephen Portnoy about the grilling on the Hill for the guy who investigated President Biden's handling of classified documents and whether either side scored any points. Yesterday, Amy's on it, Aami's on this, Amy's on it. What am I on? I'm on a lot of streaming, sometimes movies, sometimes books, but mainly streaming. And the reason I'm on it is

because there is so much out there. It's so hard to find what's good. And I mean you can scroll endlessly and try to figure something out, but then you get a lot of misses. Because I've gotten a lot of misses, and then every once in a while you get a hit. But here's how I do it. I take rest recommendations from friends and family and co workers, and then when I find something I like, or maybe even something I don't like, maybe to save you the time, I also pass

that information along so hopefully I can help you out a little bit. I was going to be on Elle'sbeth this week. It's actually a network show. I believe it's CBS. Yes it is because it's on Paramount Plus, but there's only one episode out so it's a little too soon to tell, so I'm going to hold off on that one. In the meantime, I came across the remake of Lindsay Loewen's Mean Girls from two thousand and four. It's the new version, starring a Gory Rice as Katie Herron. That's who Lindsay

Loan played when she did the role. Also, Tina Fay is in this one. She was in the first movie too, apparently she's reprising her role Tim Meadows. Jenni Fisher is Katie's mom, and Busy Phillips is also in the show, so there's some names in there. Oh and did I mention John Hamm. It's kind of a cameo role, but it's kind of fun

to see when somebody like John Hamm shows up anywhere. So Katie Heron is a new student at Northshoe Hi. She gets invited to join the popular girls known as the Plastics, and then she gets wrapped up in their world and kind of predictedly becomes a mean girl herself. So the acting in Mean Girls the new version. Oh and it's a musical, did I mention it's a

musical. It's sort of a mix between a regular movie and a musical, you know how the acting in musicals tends to be a little more over the tops, kind of that sometimes it's almost right on part and sometimes you go and it's a little overacted. The music was good, but there was no what was I made for? Kind of song, you know, like, nothing like that incredibly haunting and beautiful song from Billie Eilish from the Barbie movie.

Of course, there's a twenty twenty four twist, so there's social media mixed in, which is kind of fun because when you go back and watch the first one with Lindsay Lohan, which I also watched because I wanted to have reference, and I had never actually seen Mean Girls, it has all the social media and everybody's got their phones, and you know, twenty years

ago everybody didn't, So that's kind of a fun little differential. But there is the social media twist, which makes it very relevant and more like what would probably happen in real life. And of course a mean girl always gets her come up, and she does just like in the first movie. It is a little bit more crass than the first one, and the Mean Girls

are even meaner, but it's still kind of a sweet story. And I like a story when someone gets knocked down and then gets back up learns a lesson, and that happens in Mean Girls, And in the end, it was a little bit touching and sweet. Not a great movie, but it was okay. And like I said, the music was okay. It was good, not great, So if you're looking for some light entertainment, this

would be a good one. Again, I'm glad it's out on the stream and glad I didn't spend the money in movie theaters, but to be able to watch it at home, I think it was a good one. And that's what I'm on this week, and I'll let you know about Elsbeth. The first episode was interesting, but I'm going to reserve judgment and try to get a couple more episodes under my belt before I make any recommendation. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour

newsroom. Researchers say nearly twenty percent of new cancer diagnoses at City of Hope, Orange County are for people younger than fifty. I was in shock because we didn't have family history of breast cancer. Orange County help Officer doctor Regina Cincio Kwong says she was diagnosed in twenty twenty two at just forty three years old. I was really into more of that healthy lifestyle, reducing all my risk, all kinds of different ways eating healthy. If you ask my family,

they know that about me. And here I was faced with that diagnosis, but she says because of early routine screening, I was able to take care of it and be cancer free almost immediately. However, Brandon Narbini was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer at just forty years old. It was devastating and it really surprised me. I didn't smoke, I didn't drink. I

have no family history of cancer. City of Hope, O C. Physician in Chief, doctor David Kim says cancer and people younger than fifty is projected to increase thirty one percent by twenty thirties. Not just an older smoking person who comes in. These are younger professionals who don't understand why they're being diagnosed

with late stage cancer despite living healthy lifestyles. Kim says Orange County lead southern California with more than two thousand cancer diagnoses each year at City of Hope OC Corbin Carson k if I knews hy. That's scary. And they mentioned colon cancer and you may have known I had that a couple of years ago. So always harping on people to get those tests done, the routine testing.

I mean, it's just it's such a good idea. It's inconvenient, but man, it can save your life and not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. A new bill in California could ban public schools from serving food that contains artificial dyes. It would prohibit synthetic food dyes blue number one, blue two, green three, red, forty, yellow five, yellow six. Those dyes can be found in foods like ice cream, candy, flavored milk, frozen yogurt, baked goods, breakfast cereals, and

pudding. The authors of the bill, announced yesterday, say the state has the responsibility to protect children from chemicals that can cause harm and also harm their ability to learn. The police chief in Uvalde, Texas, is resigning. Chief Daniel Rodriguez announced yesterday he is stepping down on April six. The news comes just days after a city Council report cleared several officers of wrongdoing in their

delayed response to the rob Elementary School shit shoting in twenty twenty two. Rodriguez announced his resignation in a statement, but did not mention the report or the mass shooting in which nineteen children and two teachers were killed. Costco is expanding its Kirkland signature sushi counters following the success of the first location in Washington. Costco started working on its sushi counter concept for the US in twenty twenty two

and opened its only location last summer. The chains culinary team flew to Japan to study the art of sushi making and tested out recipes. It's unclear where the new locations will be. I hope one of them is in California. Costco Sushi Who Knew. Paul McCartney and the Eagles are going to headline the Keep the Party Going a tribute to Jimmy Buffett on April eleventh at the Hollywood

Bowl. Eric Church, Brandy Carlyle also known as Carlyle, John bon Jovi, and Kenny Chesney are also going to be performing at the All Star concert. The ticket pre sale are today and then the general on sale is Friday. I have a feeling that one's going to sell out pretty quick. You're listening to Wake Up Call on Demand from KFI Am six forty. I'm Amy King. Thanks for getting your day started with us. Here's what we're following

in the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. House Republicans are moving forward with a vote on a bill that would effectively ban TikTok in the US. A vote on the measure is scheduled for today, and if passed, the ban could go into effect if TikTok's Chinese parent company, Byte Dance, doesn't sell to an American company within six months. More than one hundred million people use TikTok

in the US. Police are looking for a homeless man who punched a six year old girl in the face as she left an ice cream shop with her family in Santa Monica. Witnesses say the attack Sunday was completely unprovoked. The girl's recovering at home. The Batman Part two is being delayed. The film was supposed to be released October third of next year, but now it's been pushed back to October second of twenty twenty six. The sequel will star Robert

Pattinson as the title character. Once again, he wasn't my favorite Batman. We're just minutes away from handle on the news this morning. If it's artificial, kids in California may not be getting it at school anymore. Right now, let's say good morning to ABC's Stephen portnoy So Steven. Special Counsel Robert hur got grilled on the Hill by both Republicans and Democrats yesterday. He did, and it depends on your political persuasion and your view of the world and

politics. That's the prism through which you probably saw yesterday's her testimony. And this is the former Special Council coming to the House Judiciary Committee to explain why he decided the charger should not be brought against Joe Biden for his handling of

classified information. As you know, last month, he reported to the Attorney General that there should not be charges brought because while there's some evidence that Joe Biden willfully retained classified material and shared it with his ghostwriter, nevertheless, the likelihood that a jury would would convict Joe Biden is low, and for that reason charges should not be brought. That Herbert determined he couldn't prove it beyond

a reasonable doubt. And so Democrats yesterday said, your report exonerates President Trump President Biden, and the response from Robert Hurst saying, no, that's not what my report does. My report does not include that word. And Republicans said, well, there's a double standard here because the Justice Department is bringing charges against Donald Trump, and Her said, well, there are key differences

between the two cases. As he lays out in his report. President Biden opened his homes to the FBI, sat for two days with her and his team for an interview, and on the whole Biden was cooperative while Trump was

evasive, and it's alleged obstructed justice. You had Democrats, particularly Congressman Schiff, say that her had a political motivation for including in his report the fact that Joe Biden's memory was fading, and her push back against that and said that is not what his report did and that's not why he did it. That he had to assess the president's mental state, and he had to review the president's memory in order to make a determination as to whether on how a

jury would perceive what Biden did. I thought so it was interesting when they were talking about that back and forth between Schiff and her because Schiff is saying, you are politically motivated, and he said, no, it would be politically motivated for me not to put it in there, because that's what I

had to include that information to explain why I came with that determination. The public generally does not get to read what are called declination memos that are written by prosecutors inside the Justice Department for internal purposes to determine whether to pursue or not pursue particular cases. And most often the public sees when an indictment is brought because the Justice Department has decided that there is a likelihood of success and

that it's in the interest of justice to pursue charges against an individual. Why that decision has made me in the reverse, we never hear about it. And what's rare in this circumstance is that we are reading a declination memo.

We're seeing the internal deliberations of the Justice Department. And while Democrats say it was gratuitous and beyond the norms and policy of the Justice Department to put all this in writing, Hers says just the opposite, that this is exactly what prosecutors do and it's important for him to have put it in the note in the report so that his seniors at the Justice Department could understand his thought process.

Yeah, it's kind of interesting then to see the secret sauce, you know, because, like you said, we normally just say yes, we're going to prosecute or no, but we don't know why. And I thought it was interesting to the whole likelihood of success thing. So where he said, oh, we found stuff, and he probably willfully took these things, at least that was some of the verbiage, but said if we prosecuted it,

it wouldn't go anywhere. So well, right, And one of the reasons it wouldn't go anywhere, and this is in her report, and a lot of has been made of it, is the idea that Joe Biden would come off sympathetic to the jury, that he would come off as well meaning and forgetful and not someone who seems to have intentionally committed a crime. Here. Republicans view it differently. They say, all you have to do is look at what happened here. Joe Biden met as soon as he and before

he left office with a ghostwriter. He had a design to write a book to cast himself as someone of presidential timber in the future, that he had an eight million dollar advance for this book, and that those all constitute a motive for the retention of classified materials, but which you could also argue, and her put this in his report. There's precedent in the case of Ronald

Reagan. Ronald Reagan took diaries. Some of what he wrote down was based on and derived from classified information, particularly about Iron contract, and no one ever suggested, or at least the determination was made in the late nineteen eighties that Ronald Reagan did not commit a crime and should not be prosecuted for it. So if you had a former president who had classified material at least in his own hand, how could you charge a former vice president doing the same

years later? And that is an argument that her said that Biden's defense lawyers would make to a jury, and it might be persuasive to a jury, and that's why he determined the charger should not be brought here. Okay. And so now we've had both sides yelling and screaming. Okay, they guess they weren't yelling and screaming. They were raising their voices a few times, though from what I saw and both either made their points or didn't get what

they wanted out of it. Does anything come of this hearing, I mean other than this conversation. No, I don't think so. I mean, look, it's an opportunity for the country to It's part of history, it's part of our collective understanding. But does it advance the Republican effort to impeach Joe Biden? No, I don't think so. Does it, you know, help either side politically? I'm not sure. It's sort of a wash, but I think it, you know, for we could say, is

this chapter's closed? The White House said yesterday it's simply case closed. I don't see anything more coming of it while Joe Biden is president. Okay, Stephen Borteno, I thank you so much for sorting it out for us. You bet. All right, Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. A landslide has slammed into a home in Sherman Oaks. That happened early this morning on Ventura Canyon Avenue.

Part of the home has been destroyed and there are huge cracks around the pool and the property. The vice president of the LA Police Commission has reached reacted to a media report about the way the department uses less lethal force. Rosha Gurgis says a story in the La Times doesn't accurately portray a recent report on less lethal use of force, so you know, les lethal force is essentially leading to Dudley encounter. She asked Chief Troy yesterday if he agreed with that

story, I absolutely disagree. A report was requested by the Commission after officers killed a man who had a plastic fork, though officers had been told he had a deadly weapon. Choice said he stands by their training. It's a less lethal option to disk late a situation, and it's not causing more lethal force situations. Steve Gregory king if I news, well, this sounds like

it could be a good idea. LA City officials have launched a new effort to clean up trash in the often littered Westlake and Pico Union neighborhoods, including the deployment of dozens of new trash cans. Plan calls for ninety new trash bins along high foot traffic corridors like Vermont Avenue, Venice Boulevard, Washington and Alvarado Streets, and also surrounding MacArthur Park, which if you've driven by you see lots of trash there.
