You're listening to KFI AM six forty Wake Up Call with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio app Tuesday, March fifth. I'm Amy King. Thanks for getting your day started with us today and you know what today is, right Super Tuesday. Poles open at seven o'clock. They'll be open until eight o'clock for in person voting. Of course, you can also drop ballots at like hundreds of different locations. Go'll prove all the experts wrong. They're saying

voter turnout is going to be less than thirty percent in La County. You can change that. Here's what's ahead on wake Up Call. Three seats on the La County Board of Supervisors and seven seats on the La City Council are up for grabs in today's primary election. DA George Gascone is also facing eleven challengers in his bid for a second term. Measure HLA is also on the ballot in La. That's the road diet measure that would mandate replacing traffic lanes

for bike and bus lanes. Expect gas and electricity prices to go up a lot. A California Air Resources Board has released a report that says amendments to the state's low carbon fuel standards could drive gas prices up thirty seven cents a gallon this year, and then even more down the road. The price of gas in California is averaging four to eighty three a gallon. Nationally, it's three thirty five. A new immigration law in Texas is headed to the US

Supreme Court. Justice Alito issued an order putting the law on hold yesterday for at least a week while the High Court takes a look at it. It would allow local police to arrest people crossing the border illegally. The law was blocked by a federal judge, but that ruling has been overturned and now it's headed up to the Supreme Court for a louxie. At six oh five, it's handle on the news. Some are surprised by a Supreme Court justice take

on whether former President Trump can be on the ballot in Colorado. Bill's going to tell you about that. Let's get started now with some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. One of the most closely watched races in this election is for the US Senate seat held by the late Dianne Feinstein. Looks to be a close contest between Democrats Katie Porter and Adam Schiff and Republican former Dodger Steve Garvey. The top two finishers will advance to

a runoff in the general election in November. New faces are slated to represent southern California in the US House. Two incumbents are seeking the same promotion and two others are retiring. That leaves four House seats open. Fifteen candidates are vying for the thirtieth House district, currently represented by Democrat Adam Schiff. He's running for the US Senate along with fellow Democratic incumbent Katie Porter. Her forty

seventh district in Orange County has ten candidates on the ballot. Competitive races have also emerged to replace retiring Democratic incumbents Tony Cardiness in the twenty ninth district and Grace Napolitano in the thirty first. Michael Monks KFI News, an ex employee of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Pasadena It's been sentenced for using federal COVID money to pay off his real estate debt. US Attorney spokesman Kirian McAvoy says the

man also used the governmental loans to fund an illegal marijuana farming project. He pleaded guilty last year to defrauding a government sponsored loan program designed to help people and businesses survive the COVID nineteen pandemic's economic impact. A judge yesterday sentenced the man to two years probation and handed him a ten thousand dollars fine. The man admitted to lying on his loan application in twenty twenty, and pleaded guilty

last year to account of wire fraud. A man and a woman have been killed in a fiery car crash in Alta, Dina. HP s's officers were called Di Loma View Drive just after midnight. They found the car flipped over and engulfed in flames. Fire crews had to pull the pair out of the wreckage. Both died at the scene. The cause of the crash not yet known. The laped says a guy's been busted trying to steal an autonomous vehicle an employee of way Mosas. The white Jaguar sedan had just dropped off a

passenger in Your First Tomine in downtown LA. When the guy jumped into the driver's seat and tried to put the car into gear. The employee said they were alerted Saturday night about the attempt to mess with the car, and through remote communications inside the vehicle, they tried to warn the guy and told him to exit the car. He refused, so they called the police, who then arrested the thirty three year old A short time later. He was booked

for attempted grand theft auto. Steve Gregory kay off I News, Let's stay good morning now to ABC and five thirty eight senior elections analyst Jeffrey Skelly. Busy day for you today on Jeffrey, Yes, Super Tuesday is always the busiest day of the election calendar until you get to the actual general election in November. You know, I think most of the attention is on the Republican presidential race. They are fifteen states voting in that particular contest, but Democrats

have sixteen races of their own on their presidential contest. And then I also have five states including California, with down ballot primaries. So yes, very busy day. Okay, So let's take a look at it by the numbers. Since you guys are the experts with the numbers, what are we looking at like in the presidential race? Does Nikki Haley have any chance of winning any states or is it just going to be Trump Trump Trump. Well, that is really the big question. I don't know. Trump is going to

win most everywhere, and really the question is can Haley break through? You know, my guests would be no, based on what we're seeing in polls. However, I would say that, you know, her best states are probably going to be places that are maybe the Republican electorate is going to be a bit less conservative, in part because it allows non Republicans to vote like independence, say in a place like Massachusetts or Virginia, which is an open

primary state with no voter registration. And then there's also Vermont, which is somewhat similar in that respect, and then maybe a place like Colorado. Otherwise, though, I mean a lot of the states in the South are going to vote very heavily for Donald Trump. You know, say like California with Republicans have a closed primary, so most of the people participating will identify as Republican, they'll be registered as Republican, but most of those people will identify

as Republicans. So I would I would expect Trump to do quite well in California. I'm going to be interested to see what happens in Colorado since the Supreme Court just decided yesterday that yes, he can be on the ballot.

So it'll be interesting to see, you know, what the vote count is on that, just as oh yeah, absolutely, you know it's interesting we actually had no polling in Colorado. I thought someone would have come in and asked about Trump on the ballot and Trump off the ballot among Republican potential Republican primary voters. But to be fair, Colorado hasn't has only recently started using a presidential primary, and so perhaps that was perhaps it was challenging to get

a rid of that race. But you know, I, as in most places, I would expect Trump to be to be favored to win, Okay, And so because it's it's well, it's Hailey Trump on the primary. And then on the Democratic side there are there are contenders against Joe Biden on some of the ballots. But are they expecting because it's really kind of a ford, it's expected to be kind of a slam dunk, are they expecting

voter turnout to be high or low or do we know? I mean, on the Democratic side, I would expect relatively low turnout when you have a situation where, now I know this might seem a little paradoxical, because on the one hand, what I was going to say is Biden is so heavily favored to win renomination that I would expect to see relatively low turnout because there's not much of a race there. Now on the Republican side, you could

argue there's how much of a race there either. However, you do have a really noteworthy candidate and Haley still challenging Donald Trump, whereas on the Democratic side, I mean you have Dean Phillips. Technically Maryon Williamson apparently has gotten back into the race officially unsuspended her campaign. But these candidates are not remotely in Haley's league in terms of their sort of notoriety and their their campaign apparatus.

So in that sense, the Republican contest is much more heavily contested. And if you're an independent voter, and even if you're a Democratic leaning independent voter, the race where maybe your vote would would seemingly make a difference would

be more on the Republican side than the Democratic one. So if you're in a state where you can vote in that primary, you know, I would expect some of those voters to participate in the GOP contest instead of the Democratic one, and then Jeffrey by the numbers, barring any surprises after today, if Trump does as well as he's expected down, he's expected to like he's leading in some of your polls by thirty forty percent. Is there any path

for Nikki if Trump does as well as expected today? Oh, I would say there hasn't been a path for Nicki Haley for some time, just to be just to be frank about it, you know, if the goal is to win now? Is her goal now to win or is her goal to sort of carry on the mantle of maybe a more traditional Republicanism or what have you. If if that's her goal, then she could keep going regardless of

the results today. So it's kind of tough to know. I mean, the way she stated things previously is that she would at least take it to Super Tuesday, So you know, she very well could drop out tonight. Okay, I guess we'll have to wait and see. Well, thank you so much for the sharing the numbers and your numbered predictions, will call them. Hey, Well, thank you so much for having me, all right,

take care. Jeffrey Skelley. If you want to follow Jeffrey also, you can follow him at Jeffrey VS at Jeffrey spelled Geoff r e y VS. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Six to eleven feet of snow has fallen on the Sierra Nevada in this latest storm. That's great news for California snowpack. We're now up to one hundred and four percent of normal for this date and ninety four percent of our April first average, so we've come a very long way in

a couple months. Lead scientist at the UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab, Andrew Schwartz says the snowpack in January was just twenty eight percent of normal. What a change, huh. He says. The state should reach one hundred percent of its April first average, and might even get there a couple weeks early. We get so few of these years where we have an abundance of water and we don't have to worry about drout, and hopefully this will pay

off in the summer as well with lowering wildfire dangers. Schwortz says, it's nice to not have some sort of water crisis for a second year in a row. After years of drought. Orange County has been named the hardest place to find an apartment in California. Study by rent Cafe shows ninety six percent of apartment complexes are full. Owner and president of Coldwell Banker Diamond Alex Horowitz has been in property management in sales for over thirty six years, and he

says interest rates in the market are forcing people to rent. We've also noticed new developments coming in apartments, but they also seem to be more luxury driven in higher rents. Horowitz says. Another issue is that large corporations are buying single family homes and taking away opportunities from families and small investors who would normally rent the properties at a cheaper price. Chris Adler KFI News. Five people

have been killed when a small plane crashed near a highway in Tennessee. National Police say the pilot made an emergency call early Friday night reporting engine trouble. They say was given clearance to make an emergency landing, but radio back saying the plane wouldn't get to the airport. Officials say it burst into flames when it hit the ground. Lawmakers in Colorado have shot down a bill that would

have classified embryos and fetuses as a person. It would have allowed prosecutors to criminally charge mothers who got an abortion, and also said any judge who overruled a provision of the bill could be impeached. Claudia Perez with Planned Parenthood or the Rocky Mountain says the bill went too far and could have had dire situation

consequences. The reasons we're concerned about that at Planned Parenthood is that bills like these are abortion then bills, and they seek to strip away access to care for Colorado's The bill's only sponsor, Republican Scott Bottoms, introduced a similar,

unsuccessful bill last year. The Kelsey brothers are going to be honored in Cleveland with bubbleheads at the Cavaliers game Kansas City Chiefs tied end Travis Kelcey and his brother Jason, who just retired from the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday, are Cleveland natives and have long supported the basketball team. The many Kelsey's will be given to a select number of fans tonight who are decked out in blue calves jerseys with

their respective NFL numbers eighty seven and sixty two. When we come back, scammers are trying to get your tax refund before you do. And got a pet, been thinking about getting pet insurance. Joel Larsgart has some thoughts on that. You're listening to Wake Up Call on Demand from KFI Am six forty. You already know this. It's Super Tuesday. Here's what we're following in the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Voters in more than a dozen states,

including Colla, California, are casting ballots today. On the California ballot, Dianne Feinstein's old Senate seat is on the line, with the top two finishers moving on to the general election in November. Polls we'll open for in person voting at seven am and be open until eight tonight. Metros offering free rides on trains, buses, Metro bike share and the ride share Metro Micro for today's election. Ballot dropboxes are also set up at nine Metro locations, including

Union Station. Well There are smart cars and now Riverside counties making a smart freeway. Construction on a stretch of the fifteen or Temecula is expected to get underway this summer, it'll use synchronized signal lights and even allow drivers to use the shoulder of the freeway during peak hours to reduce the logjam. Have you been out on the fifteen and Temecula lately or towards Temecula. It's crazy, a little two lane road and it does seem to be clogged up quite a

bit. At six oh five. It's handled on the news. Bad guys in the Wheelshare district have figured out how to disarm your surveillance cameras and alarms. I'll tell you more about that, but right now, let's say good morning to the host of How to Money on KFI. It's our very own Joel Larsgard. Good morning, Joel, morning Amy. So we have several things to talk about today. But first I just saw this story, and that is that scammers are trying to get your tax refund before you do,

and that affects our money. So let's figure out how to stop. Yeah. They're so sweet, right, always finding new ways to get into our savings to basically take money that's ours, And this one has kind of been around for a long time. Essentially, you go to file your taxes and you find out kind of towards the end when you attempt to file that somebody already filed your taxes for you, and you're kind of like scratching your head.

Why would some benevolent citizen do this paperwork on my behalf so that I don't have to. Well, they're not actually nice people if they're stealing your refund that's the whole goal of this, right, So scammers are filing taxes as if they were you taking the refund check. And it is a massive

pain to try to get that money that you are owed back. And a lot of people count on that tax refund amy just they're kind of planning on it every year, right, and for a lot of folks it's to the tune of three thousand dollars somewhere in that vicinity, And so it's a pain not to have that. It's a massive problem there is. For a long time, there wasn't really anything you could do. You were just hoping, crossing your fingers, praying to the deity above the you would not be the

victim here. But the IRS has now implemented pin codes over the last couple of years. They did a trial run in a few states, and now you can get a pin code no matter what state you live in, and so go to IRS dot gov and get sign up for one of these identity protection pins and do it every year. You have to do this every year. I would put a reminder on your calendar in mid January when they allow

you to start to start signing up for those pins. Then when you file your tax return, they won't accept it unless you have the PIN attached. It's kind of like dual factor authentication when you log into your retirement accounts. Okay, but then here's the question, what if a bad guy goes in and gets your pin or gets a pin for you? Okay, that's a really good question too. Yeah, I don't know, because you have to

submit some personal information. So the IRS is it's a higher threshold to get that pin because you have to include a lot of different personal information that only you will likely know. It's a lower threshold to file taxes as if they were you of that information has been flying around the internet because of breaches like equifaxes in twenty seventeen. But there's an extra threshold to get the pin to

verify your identity there, so I think that's less of a worry. Do make sure you keep your login to IRS dot gov safe when you get that pin, because yeah, you don't want that floating around because then, yeah, your pin's at stake. Okay, Then one other question before we move on for that, how can they file your taxes without your W two. That's a yeah, So I don't know how they're getting some of this information

right, and so that's it. Yeah, that's an interesting question. And sometimes the IRS will accept returns without having every single piece of paperwork there. I'm thinking about my own taxes right now, and I've got ridiculous amount of papers. Then I'm I might miss something right, and the IRS will still accept my tax return. They might come back and say, hey, guess what you're wrong, or they might say we think you lied, or we

think you owe extra money. But oftentimes it will accept a return even if it's not one hundred percent complete, if you have it included every single document. Okay, Okay, let's move on to pet insurance. I have two kiddies now and going to the vet is not an inexpensive thing like it used to be, and so now you can get pet insurance. Is it worth it or is it really just kind of taking your money Okay, so you said if you had thoughts on this, Joey, I do have thoughts on

this. I do have thoughts on this, and they typically upset pet owners. And it's not that I'm I don't want I don't want you to not take care of your pet. I don't want you to not love your pet and spend money on your pet in the ways that you've budgeted for, in

the ways that you see fit. But pet insurance most of the time isn't a good idea and it's not necessary, and I feel I think for most pet owners it feels like it's the use of mind is the security blanket, but it costs a lot of money too, And so it's about the numbers, right, It's not about making sure that your pet is taken care of because I want you to instead of buying pet insurance most of the time, because in some situations it can make sense, But most of the time,

I want you to self insurance. That just means patting your savings account the tune of hundreds or probably in the case of let's say you have an expensive breed of dog, probably to the tune of thousands and thousands of dollars, just in case, And I know what this is, like, I've had a great day and I remember watching a friend's great day one time and she cut her paw while she was at our house. And it was a five hundred dollars fix. And it's probably that was twelve years ago, so it

probably cost a whole lot more now. So it's expensive to make sure that your pets are taken care of. But when you look at pet insurance, premiums are skyrocketing, deductibles are going up, there's limits on policy payouts,

claims are getting denied. The pet insurance might not be as good as you think, it is as good as you want it to be, And so I think the better thing to do is to just stick more money in your savings account what you would have paid in premiums, and then a little extra stick that aside for a rainy pet day, so you have your rainy day fund for you and your rainy day fund for your pet. Yeah, exactly. I mean I want people to be properly insured. There's lots of different

kinds of insurance that really makes sense. But it's just like you go to the electronics store, you buy a laptop and they say do you want the extended warranty. The answer is always no, it's way too expensive. It's

way too an expensive form of insurance. And now I realize that people want to make sure that their electronics item isn't at risk, But there are other ways to do that, and the best way to do that typically, especially given the low failure rates that we know of a lot of electronics items, if you do your due diligence ahead of time, you're better off pocketing the money that you would have spent on the quote unquote insurance and self insuring and

buying something else if something were to go wrong. But buying that policy at the store is not a good idea. Joel Larsguard, you always make such good sense. And you can find out more of his good sense. You can listen to how to Money with Joel Larsgard on KFI Sunday's Noon to two. You can also follow him at how to Money. Joel. Thank you so much, Joel, we'll talk to you again next week. Sounds good. Thanks Amy. All right, let's get back to some of the stories

coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Police in Orange County are looking for a guy who broke into a barber shop and stole a bolted down atm. This guy lives across from the shop, says he was awakened by the commotion early yesterday morning. He was getting in his truck, backing in and out, backing in and out. You could tell that he was trying

to pull something out of the stores. Security footage shows the guy using a pickup truck with a toastrap to yank the ATM out of the Golden Touch barber shop and drag it away. The owner says he showed up to a mess. I was just in shocks because I've just seen all my heart work and all my life savings down the drain, like I'll just see a bush of glass everywhere, Like this place was unrecognizable. He says. Five thousand dollars

in cash was inside the ATM. The business sat about five thousand dollars in damage. Police say the truck was stolen. News brought to you by Simper Solari's, a tax attorney in Orange County. It pleaded guilty to not reporting nearly two million dollars in income. Has been sent to five years probation and five hundred hours community service. The woman was also accused of embezzling from a dead person's family trust, but as part of the plea deal, she was

not charged with that crime. She agreed yesterday to pay nearly seven hundred thousand dollars in restitution and transferred two properties acquired through the trust over to the irs. Krispy Kreme wants to reward voters for turning in their ballots this Super Tuesday. The donut chain says people can go to any Krispy Kreme and get two free original glazed donuts. In my huntbold opinion, those are the best ones

anyway. They say it's their own version of Super Tuesday twos day. You don't need to show any proof of voting, but they say getting the I Voted sticker never hurts. When we come back, we're going to be checking out with ABC Stordana Miller to find out about a potential rift in the ruling party in Israel over a meeting with Vice President Harris. You're listening to a wake up call on demand from KFI Am six forty. Here's where we're following

in the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Three seats on the La County Board of Supervisors and seven seats on the La City Council are up for grabs in today's primary. DA George Gascone is also facing eleven challengers in his second term bid Measure HLA also on the ballot in Lost Angelus. That's the road diet measure that would mandate replacing traffic lanes for bike and bus lanes on thousands of miles of roadway. Forecasters say no widespread drought is expected in the Golden State

through early twenty twenty six. The prediction by ACI Weather Forecast comes on the heels of one of the coldest snowiest winter storms that California's seen this year. More than seven feet of fresh powder fell in some locations across the Sierra over the weekend, and more snow is expected through midweek. A new immigration law in Texas is headed to the US Supreme Court. Justice Alito issued an order putting the law on hold for at least a week while the High Court takes

a look at it. It would allow local police to arrest people crossing the border illegally. Was set to take effect this weekend. The law was blocked by a federal judge, but that ruling was overturned and that's why the Supreme Court's taken a look. At six oh five, it's handled on the news, and immigration law in Texas that would let local police make arrests is on hold. As I just mentioned, Bill's going to be talking about it. At five point fifty. A total eclipse of the sun is just a month

away. ABC's Jim Ryan says, for some it's going to be a big boon for business. Right now, let's say good morning to ABC's Jordana Miller in Jerusalem. Jordana, Israeli Cabinet member Benny Gantz met with Vice President Harris yesterday. Why was Prime Minister Netanyahu's so peeved about that? Yeah, it's a great question. Well, first of all, General Benny Gantz is one of Nataniell's most formidable rivals. He helped push him out of power a few

years ago, then he came back temporarily during COVID. He's the most popular politician in Israel, empoised to be the next prime minister, and of course, on the back of tensions between Nataniel and the administration, you know, he's suspicious of Gance going to Washington when he would really be like he would like to be the one going to Washington and represent venting Israel's views. Having said that, there's a lot for GNS to talk about. He's a former

defense minister, he used to head the Israeli Army. He's in the war cabinet, he is part of you know, he's been part of planning and executing this war since October seventh. So you know, if the administration is looking for, you know, an inside look at what's happening, guns will be able to provide that, obviously within certain limits, and also to bring back a message from the United States about how important it is for AID to

get into Northern Gaza. Israel weighing now opening two crossings directly into northern Gaza. That was going to be part of a hostage deal and ceasefire arrangement. But as those negotiations continue, it looks as if Israel's going to move first to get the AID in whether or not we get a deal. Okay, well that's that's obviously good news. So yeah, So I'm so confused about why why Gance, Why that was a problem for him to meet with Harris,

I mean, because who sees it is undermining him exactly? He sees it as a threat YEP and undermining him. He called Gance and I think tried to convince him not to go, but that didn't really work, you know. And you know when Metaia, who buts heads with US presidents and administrations, there have often been people in the background that talk to the United

States and try to smooth things over. Metanie well could have he could have welcomed Gans's trip there and sent messages and other things instead of having, you know, an adversary position to the visit. But even back when Natanyao used to clash with President former President Barack Obama about the Iran nuclear deal, there were close close people in nataniel circle who were also talking to American officials, such as General Gabi Ashkenazi who was then part of the Defense establishment. So

you know, this has happened before. But Natanyao, you know, he he likes to stay the number one, you know, person on the political scene for Israel in this scene as kind of cutting them out a little bit. Yeah, I mean it's happened here in the US too, And I see that, Like, if you don't want to feel like you were end arounded by somebody, like you know, follow that chain of command. So

I get that. So you mentioned that it was making efforts to reopen the truck routes and what other aid is getting in there, is the situation starting to improve or at all. Well, there's been several air drops another one today that the US took part in with Jordan and other regional partners, which helps. But we have to remember the air drops they can never really replace the amount of aid that can get in on trucks because usually an air drop

will be the amount of one or two trucks. But you know, at its best, we've seen two hundred trucks come into the Gaza strip and that's already been half of what used to come in during peacetime and only a small fraction or getting to northern Gaza. So you know, air drops are helpful, that they can't they can't really solve the problem. That's why there has to be, you know more, there has to be some kind of I

think international coalition that helps safe the safeguard the delivery of aid. The problems really the delivery of aid and it's getting it in because the goal is to not have Hamas take it and make sure that they're not getting any kind of weapons or any other supplies, right, you would think right that there the international coalition could help search those vehicles or something to speed this up. Right, It's really about protecting them from local gunmen and Hamas who also attack the

trucks and want to take some for their own groups. Yeah, and that creates you know, the kind of deadly incident we saw last week where you know, there were several incidents along that convoy, one that did involve the Israeli Army firing on some gosens who approached a tank, but most of the people who died in that event, you know, from Israel's initial assessment and their continuing to look on it, most of those died in local gunfire and

stampedes further up in the in the convoy of further up in the number of trucks that got through to northern Gaza. So you know, something has to change or we're going to see more of this. Yes, the people are lawless, lawless, Yeah, lawlessness is only increasing in Gaza as as Israel takes a part Hamas and begins to really make gains on the battlefield and defeat them. You know, they were they were the police, they were Hamas

was everything. So you can see how without when Hamas has been hit hard. You know, UNRA, the un agencies can come in, but even there it's complicated. No easy answers on this one, and we're very appreciative that we have you there to help us sort it out. Thanks to you, Dana Miller. We'll talk again soon, Thanks so much. All right, Yeah, let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the

KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Voters in California you're going to be deciding the future of mental health care in the state as they fill in primary battle. Governor Newsom says the six point four billion dollar measure will dramatically increase asset access to treatment beds and support of housing. He says Prop one would fix years of failure to address the mental health crisis. Opponents of the measure say with

slash funding for already successful programs. A professor in Costa Mesa's teaching Civil Discourse tips to gen Z voters who head to the polls by the millions for the first time this Super Tuesday. Vanguard University Political Science Assistant professor Eunis Kang says the goals taught to gen Z students could be useful to all voters. First, instead of listening to geurope for a response and answer, why don't we

try listening just to listen. Second, students are taught don't demonize because people are more than their political beliefs. Number three, we can disagree without being disrespectful. Number four, don't contradict because you won't convince. Number five. Be a peacemaker, not a troublemaker. Gen Z Student voters are also taught to be wary of misinformation presented as news. In Orange County Corbin Carson k if I news, the dreaded misinf Springles has announced the return of its honey

mustard flavor that's not misinformation. The company says the flavor has an incredibly passionate fan base and people were very upset when it was discontinued in twenty twenty two. It says it got thousands of social media posts begging for its return, and now the crisps are going to be back on shelves for good. You're listening to Wake Up Call on Demand from KFI Am six forty. Here's what

we're following in the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Voters in more than a dozen states, including California, casting ballots today on the California ballot, Dianne Feinstein's old Senate seats on the line, with the top two finishers moving on to the general election in November. Polls again open for in person voting or

to drop off your ballots from seven this morning till eight tonight. Well, there are smart cars, and now Riverside County is making a smart freeway construction on a stretch of the fifteen near Temecula that traditionally is a nightmare for travelers is expected to get under way this summer. It'll use synchronized signal lights and even allowed drivers to use the shoulder of the freeway during peak hours to help reduce the logjam. Police are looking for a guy who broke into a barber

shop and orange and stolen atm that was bolted down. Security camera footage shows the guy using a pickup with a toe strap to yank the ATM out of the Golden Touch barber shop early yesterday morning. The atm had about five thousand dollars cash in it. We're just minutes away from handle on the news this morning. Lawmakers in France have made abortion a constitutional right let's say good morning now to ABC's Jim Ryan. At the time, I was falling. Look

now, I'm only falling apart. Turn around right ice. There's nothing I can do a totally clips of they tier, Jim Ryan, how many times have you heard that this morning? And you're talking to different radio stations? Oh? Ok, nubers three? All right? I thought I was being like so fun and creative Google eclipse song, and that's the one that's gonna pop up. It's not as though you can find a lot of others out there. Might be the only one. Okay, So we got a total

eclipse coming up. Yes, and if you've ever seen a full solar eclipse, you know it's something pretty spectacular. And we got another one coming right. I think the last one was twenty seventeen and it was dark for a little while. I remember that very well. But this one is going to be different. It's going to be a total eclips Well, it's not at

the heart of the sun. So this one is gonna take a different path than the last one because the last one was hit totality in Oregon, and Oregon was a nightmare if you wanted to get there because so many people went to go see it, all right. Yeah, well, and a lot of people are going to come and see this one too, especially here in Texas, because we picture a beauty queen winner. Remember the little card the monopoly when the guy wins the beauty contest and he's got that sash across his

chest. Okay, Texas has a sash across it running from the southwest to the northeast that goes through places like Uvaldi, It goes up through San Antonio, through Waco, Austin and Dallas Fort Worth, and then up into Arkansas and beyond finally going off the coast up in Nova Scotia. So Texas, and I think we're going to have twelve somewha million people who will be in the path of totality. And that is in the dark for a few minutes

anyway. And so yeah, some of these communities you are expecting an influx of people and they're celebrating that. The place called Hillsboro, Texas, which is about forty miles south of here of Dallas Fort Worth, it's got a day long celebration plan concerts and food and a big festival atmosphere going on just to celebrate that four and a half minutes of darkness that the town of Hillsboro will see. That's one of the longest stretches of totality though in the whole

world, so they're trying to capitalize on that. Other places though, down south of Waco, the Bell County Commissioners have declared a state of emergency because they think that traffic is going to be overwhelmed. Nine to one to one. Operators is going to be overwhelmed because so many people are coming in. I think it's a reflection of how many people are expected around here amy well.

And there's a lot of room for people to go. So, like I said, when it was in Oregon, I didn't think get to go up for it, but I'm from there, and so I talked to a lot of people who went and saw it. Campgrounds were completely booked. And then like in eastern Oregon, which is like high Plains, it's sort of like Texas. They had just these great, big patches of land that people were renting out spots, I mean, no amenities, but they probably brought

in porta potties and stuff. But it wasn't developed camping by any stretch. But people came by the hundreds of thousands. Yeah, well, they'll do that again this time around. And textually there's kind of ground zero for that.

And you know, social media being what it is, it's easy for a town like Hillsboro or even Dallas for worth, or places that will be in the path of the of the shadow to get word out about things going on, and word spreads and people start booking flights down to Texas or booking flights on the American Southwest I think Delta. They all these airlines have eclipse

flights that they're launching, so they'll you'll start in San Antonio. I assume you know, take off from San Antonio around the time of the eclipse. It'll be dark on the airplane. You'll continue northeast up through Dallas and then Russellville, Arkansas, then Carbondale and you know, so you'll stay beneath the shadow of the moon. It'd be like flying at night, right, And it's so special, but you know, it's one hundreds of dollars and so

the airlines are certainly will need to capitalize on it too. Yeah. And then but you said that the one area declared a state of emergency. I would imagine business owners though they're expecting a pretty big spike in business during Oh absolutely yeah, with that, with or without the emergency declaration, people are going to be coming in and spending time in Bell County down there. I've been through Bell County many times, been through. I haven't bothered to stop,

but you know, there you go. But and other companies also, Okay, you've heard of Warby Parking. Warby Parker makes eyewear glasses. Well, they're offering free eclipse viewing glasses that will protect your eyes and hoping that you know, people will try on their sunglasses their Warby Parker land seeing I like these make I'll go buy some actual glasses from Warby Parker. They know

what they're doing. It's not an accident, yeah, exactly. So it's coming up April eighth, right, yes, And if you are going to go, like I said, Oregon was flooded, so I'm imagining that everywhere along that path of the eclipse is going to be So if you want to make if you actually want to go and see it from I haven't seen it here. It's very cool. If you want to see it in person, then you start making your plans sooner rather than later, right, Figuring out

where you'll be for those few minutes. There's an app that I downloaded this morning, the Eclipse App, which is free, and it tells you that how long until the eclipse, tells you where to go in the various states I think thirteen states where you'll be able to see this. You pay a little extra money and you can get cool features like the cloud prediction. The

cloud forecast based on historical data. Right April eighth is sometime, it's over a month, so they don't know what the cloud cover will be like in Hillsboro. But this app has taken a look back at historical data for April eighth in the past, and it'll tell you the percentage of times that the sun has been blocked by the cloud, so you can adjust your route. Yeah, that would be a downer. You go all the way to Texas to see the solar eclipse and it's cloudy. I thanks so much, Jim

Ryan, have a great day. See Amy. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the Camfi twenty four hour newsroom.
