You're listening to KFI AM six forty Wake Up Call with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio app. Oh my gosh, it's March already. Do you know what that means? Like nine and a half months till Christmas? I know, so big day here in southern California. Because we're on PIP watch the Big Beer eagletz could hatch any time. Thousands of eyes on the Big Bear Eagle Cam, including my eyes. They're in the on the camera that's looking out over a big bear, like about one hundred and forty five

feet up a tree. Jackie's sleeping. We're hearing rumblings that there's movement in the eggs. But it's an exciting time. I know it's ridiculous, but it is really cool. And I got Anne completely hooked on it. She is completely hooked up it and she was cursing me yesterday because of it, and she's like, I'm so obsessed. But you can see it a Big Bear Eagle Cam. Just google it. It's on YouTube and it's just really

cool to watch. And so we're hoping something happens over the weekend. Of course, we know that snow is going to be a falling on the weekend, so it could be a very chilly welcome to the world for any of those eglets. And I might as well watch it all weekend because my Direct TV is out. We told you yesterday that Direct TV is having some issues and something to do with satellite positioning. Not sure if that's what my issue

is, but I don't have a service person coming out until Sunday. Oh, I guess I could read a book now, the Beauty of TV today as I can stream. I don't need my Direct TV. Here's what's ahead on wake up call. We have a big storm headed into California. The mountains of northern California are under a blizzard warning. Up to ten feet of snow expected to fall in and around Lake Tahoe. Caltrans is urging drivers to stay off the roads and says travel is going to be nearly impossible because of

whiteout conditions. Hundreds of officers have lined the sidewalk and applauded as my Michael Moore left LAPD headquarters more officially retired yesterday after more than forty years with the department, the last six as the Chief Assistant Chief Dominic Choi will be sworn in as the interim police chief by Mayor Bass Today, millions of people in

California will be seeing credits on their utility bills in April. It's thanks to the state's climate programs, which require businesses to pay a so called carbon tax. The average credit for socow Gas, SoCal Edison, and other heat and power suppliers in the state will be one hundred and forty six dollars At six oh five. It's handle on the news. Sawmakers have passed a stopgap bill to keep the government running while they work out details on bills to fund the

government for a whole year. This time, we'll see if they can get it done. Let's get started with some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Yosemite National Park has closed until at least Sunday as a blizzard is expected to dump more than a foot of snow in the area. Yosebody Valley itself could see up to eighteen inches of snow, other areas might more than that. ABC's Alex Stone says. The National Weather Service

has issued a blizzard warning. Up to ten feet of snows expected in the Sierra Nevada over the weekend. Road closures, power outages all expected. At least one resort in Lake Tahoe has closed today. Backcountry avalanche avalanche warnings are in place. A beach closure and other warnings are still in place in La because of recent rains that have left the bacteria levels pretty high in the water. The La County Department of Public House says Inner Cabrio Beach in San Pedro

is closed. Warnings are in place for Santa Monica Canyon Creek at will Rogers State Beach, the Santa Monica Pier, and the Pico Kent Storm Drain at Santa Monica Beach. Customs agents say more than nine million dollars worth of illegal drugs have been seized in a five day period at the California Mexico Border Agentcay from February nineteenth through February twenty fifth. They grabbed five hundred and fifty four pounds of cocaine, two hundred and twenty nine pounds of fentanyl, and sixteen

hundred and fifty pounds of meth. The drugs were seized during forty two separate smuggling attempts in a five day span throughout the San Diego sector, which includes Sandy Sidro O Taimesa, San Diego Airport and Seaport, Calexico, Takat and Andrade officials have said the last couple of years have seen record drug seizures along the border. Steve Gregory, King of iOS, crowds of people have shouted the name of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny as a hears carried his body through

Moscow. He's being buried today in a suburb where he used to live. Navalny died in a Russian prison last month. Is widow this week again blamed Russian President Putin, who she says ordered Naval's and his torture for three years. Buchin must answer for what he has done with my country. Pujin must answer for what he has done to a neighboring, peaceful country. And Puchin must ask for for everything he has done. Tolivsi prison official claim Navalny collapsed

and died while out on a walk. Kit's five six on your wake up call. If you're a veteran or someone in your family is this could be a very big thing. Let's say good morning now to the Department of Veterans Affairs Under Secretary for Health, doctor Sharif Elna Hall. Good morning, doctor Elna Hall, good morning. Thank you for having me well, I appreciate you getting up early to share this great news for veterans. We've got the

Department of Veterans Affairs is expanding healthcare benefits. So tell us about the program. Well, well, really excited because this very well could be the largest expansion of veteran healthcare eligibility in the VA than ever before. We are, as of March fifth, allowing any veteran exposed to any form of toxic exposure pesticides, herbicides, nuclear material, really anything that could affect their health to enroll in VA healthcare, regardless of any condition that they may have that may

be associated with that exposure. In addition, any veteran who is deployed to a post nine to eleven conflict or the Gulf War, including Operation Enduring Freedom, Iraqi, Freedom, New Dawn, and many of the other missions will also automatically qualify for VA healthcare regardless of their health care conditions or income. And so we're really excited to extend this access to more and more veterans across the country. Okay, and so these people have not been eligible for the

benefits to date or do they just become eligible later. I'm confused. I thought that they would be eligible as soon as they get out of the service. Well, there have been provisions before within a certain timeframe, especially for post nine to eleven veterans to enroll in VA Healthcare. This eliminates all of those timeframes, and it also eliminates the requirement that they have a medical condition that they connect to an exposure or to a condition that they experienced during their

service. And so we're really talking about millions of additional veterans qualifying for VA Healthcare and really covering more of the cost of that healthcare from many veterans who are already enrolled. That is good news and what is allowing for this expansion because I would imagine that it costs a pretty penny to offer this coverage to everybody. President Biden signed a piece of legislation called the Pact Act in August

of twenty two. That legislation really allowed us to expand care for veterans who are exposed to toxins in various ways. Originally, the Wall called for new cohorts of veterans to be eligible every two years leading up to twenty thirty two, the President has decided to accelerate eligibility, which is an option for the agency under the law, to allow all of those veterans to qualify as of

March fifth, next Tuesday. And so we really encourage all eligible veterans to apply, and if you're not sure if you're eligible, just try us out, go to VA dot gov slash pac. Even if we've had to say no to you before, there are many many more opportunities to say yes,

which is why I'm trying to get the word out about this today. Okay, and doctor elmahall, So you're saying that some people may have tried to get the benefits before, but then we're told no, you can't have them, So try try again, because now they probably can exactly, so many more doors open with this March fifth eligibility expansion, and so we want any veteran who thinks they might qualify to apply for healthcare. Okay, And like you said, if you're not sure, try anyway. And what kind of

difference is this going to make in the lives of veterans. This is healthcare coverage for life, so a lot of veterans otherwise have to have employment based health insurance or wait until they qualify for Medicare or other programs to get coverage for healthcare. Remember that via healthcare is a set up one hundred and seventy two hospitals across the country, so many more clinics, hundreds of clinics, more opportunities to get care, and you are eligible for that for life once

you enrolled. Then we're really trying to get the word out about that for this reason. All right, well, that is certainly good news. So if you again, if you are a VET, or if you know somebody who may have tried or may maybe didn't think they were eligible, so haven't even made the attempt, where did they go to find more information and to start the process. They can go to www dot va dot gov slash pact and click apply for healthcare and all the instructions will be right there on that

website. Okay, veterans, you've earned it, take advantage of it. Doctor Elnahal, thank you so much for your time. I hope lots and lots of people go and sign up and get the benefits they so richly deserve for serving our country. I agree and thank you again for having me. All right, thank you. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four our newsroom. The South Park Neighborhood Association says

LA needs to take control of the so called graffiti towers. The association's vice president, Devor Shroudt, says the unfinished ocean wide plause is a safety hazard for people breaking in. She also says the building has attracted taggers to hit other parts of the neighborhood. It's just little things, but when every block you go, you see something that's not good. The association is urging city officials to consider different options for taking control of the building, including buying it

or getting a receivership. City Councilman Kevin de Leone's office says the city does not have enough money to buy the unfinished building in downtown La Blake Trolley kaf I news. A fugitive charged with making violent threats against officials in Orange County has been caught trying to cross the border Zunigas Sanchez attempted to enter the United States. The FBI LA's loura I Miller says Santez's warrants include reckless driving,

evading police, domestic violence, workplace violence, and the criminal threats. An email that was sent in July said quote, you're already dead. The remainder of my life will be dedicated to assassinating judges, attorneys, and a police station's entire staff. Santaz With arrested Monday. The guy also posted on social media that law enforcement better pray and sleep tight. The demons come out to

play tonight in Orange County, co Ben Carson KFI News. Doctor Seuss Enterprises is celebrating the author's one hundred and twentieth birthday by giving away of course books. Babies born tomorrow can get their very own Cat in the Hat birthday present. The offer is on a first come, first serve basis that caps at ten thousand copies of the book. New parents will have ninety days to claim the free book, which comes with a personalized message commemorating the child's Sussian birthday.

Well, the weekend is here, and that means there's lots of stuff to do around the LA And how do you know what to do? You check in with Nick Pouliochini. We're looking for Nick. We need your top picks for this weekend around the southern California. So The first one for me is going to be something that you're excited about, and that's the Oscars that

are coming up in two weeks. But right now at the Academy Museum, you can actually attend the nominees program today starting all the way straight on through that, well what's happen being able to see you can see all the things that are nominated right now, and it is included with your visit to the

Academy Museum, so it's really really impressive. They have screenings for everything from the history of how you know where the Oscars came from, to all the animated shorts that are available, and all the animated features have little featurettes to kind of get you ready for the awards also any of the visual effects and everything to that effect. Plus, if you're interested, coming up on Oscar Sunday, which is March tenth, they actually have an viewing party happening that

you can attend at the Academy Museum. So if you haven't been there yet, it's a beautiful facility. It's well worth checking out anyway, but this is a great opportunity for you to see things heading up to the Awards show in two weeks. But again, it all starts today and this weekend is really when things get kicked off for that awesome milesee, I got what you and I are going to be excited about. And we won't talk too much

about it because it is coming up. But today is the very first day of Disney California Adventure of Food and Wine Festival, and that will be running all the way until April twenty second, but this weekend is the first one. There's lots of different food and wine tastings happening, so a lot of celebrity chefs will be running through the Disneyland resort. So that's something that's really fun and exciting. And then the last thing is if you're looking for a

way to get out of town and enjoy yourselves. Also, a food festival that starts out today is going to be at SeaWorld down in San Diego. This is an event, the Seven Seas Food Festival, that happens every year.

It runs to April twenty eighth, but it starts on It only happens on the weekends, so Friday, Saturday, and Sundays you can check out all the amazing things and live entertainment that are available at SeaWorld included with a mission, but they have some really amazing food and as opposed to Disney California Adventure, where it's things around the state of California, the Seven Seas Food Festival are all around the world and all related to things that are near the

water, just like SeaWorld. Sounds delicious and there's much more than just those three things happening. Nick. Where can people find out what's going on this weekend? You can always visit This Weekend with Nick dot com to catch the podcast, and you can check out Instagram for This Weekend with Nick or Nick Poliochini. He has lots and lots and lots of great recommendations. Do go check that out when we come back. Both the president and a former president

made a visit to the southern border yesterday. ABC's Jim Ryan was there and he's going to tell us all about it. You're listening to Wake Up Call on demand from KFI AM six forty. Here's what we're following in the KFI twenty four hour newsroom, which just a few days left to return ballots or head to a voting center before the March fifth primary election. A key pole shows Democrat Adam Schiff and former Dodgers first baseman Steve Garvey leading in the race

for the US Senate seat that was held by Dianne Feinstein for decades. The top two finishers in the primary will face off in the general election in November. A coffin with the body of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalney is making its way to a cemetery following a short funeral. The funeral was open to the public, but some had been warned that there could be a risk to attending. Hundreds of people were arrested a few weeks ago for paying tribute to Navalney

after his death at a Russian prison. Snow levels in southern California expected to drop to about four or five one thousand feet and high wind watches up in the Analote Valley foothills and West San Gabriel Mountains through Sunday afternoon, with win gus up to sixty miles per hour expected at six oh five. It's handle on the news. Even attending a funeral in Russia can put you at risk.

Mourners have shown up anyway as opposition leader Alexey Navalney is laid to rest let's say good morning to ABC's Jim Ryan in Texas, where both President Biden and former President Trump made their pitches for border security yesterday. Yeah, not a lot of surprises, I think, Amy, And they had their supporters here, They had some detractors here. Biden came here to Brownsville. Trump was at Egel Pass, Texas, painting different pictures of the border situation.

Biden blaming Trump for sinking the immigration bill that went before Congress a couple of weeks ago. The Senate voted it down at the urging of Donald Trump. Donald Trump, of course, blaming President Biden for the continued flow of migrants across the southern border. The numbers happened dropping off here, the number of apprehensions on the Texas border with Mexico. But the officials here, including Greg Abbotts, say that's because of the tough stance that Texas has taken on immigration.

And so as we were kind of talking about yesterday, we were expecting that in Brownsville, you weren't going to see a whole lot of action as far as people trying to cross the border because they've effectively shut that down. Well, yeah, essentially, they certainly have a better handle on it here than elsewhere on the border. Of course, you didn't have the people waiting across the river during Trump's visit there either, you know, for whatever reason.

And again Greg Abbott says that his initiative, the so called Loan Star Project, the Operation Loan Star, moving National Guard troops and setting up barriers including concertina wire there at Eagle Pass, has helped to drive down the numbers. Moving everything sort of to the west, including the California Yeah, we're

getting a lot of it so as it shifts. And then we also heard that then President Biden kind of laid out an invitation to Trump to work with him, yes, and to urge Congress to pass another immigration bill, a bipartisan immigration bill or something very similar to the one that was put forth earlier this month or last month. Right, and Biden also is looking at potential executive action on immigration, including a move to bar migrants from seeking asylum by

coming in between the ports. As it is, if you come, if you even coming between the ports of entry, come across illegally, the border patrol takes you into custody. You can immediately apply for asylum at that point. While this initiative that Biden is looking at, would make that not legal, would not make that an option for coming into the US. Okay, And for all the bluster at the border, I'll college, since they were both there yesterday, are we expecting anything? I mean, nothing really came

of it. It was just like a hey, here we are and yeah something, you're right. It was just it was a photo off as much as anything else that Biden and Trump could both call it, you know, fact finding mission or a chance to talk with it, get briefed on the border situation. But no, nothing concrete has come out of it. I think some folks were thinking that maybe Biden would use the opportunity to issue some

executive action, but that didn't happen. I mean, if Poles continue to show that voters care about immigration, you'll have to do something if he hopes, because clearly, according to Poles, Trump has an edge over him over Biden when it comes to immigration issues. Do you think that either one of them kind of got what they wanted out of it, especially because there were

like you said, there wasn't a lot going on at those places. And if you really want to tell the American people that, yeah, you're right. The border crisis is really bad. You would think you would want to be in a spot where it was and looks that. Well. I think

they did. Yeah, well, I mean the optics are still there if you're looking at a big ballered fence like you do here at Brownsville, and there were pictures of Biden standing there with this big fence, this big barricade in the river, and then you'll pass the same thing, you know, even though you don't have people coming across the specter of concertina wire and armed National Guard troops standing there at the border. I think it's sort of what

they were looking for. That's the backdrop they were sort of seeking. The only thing I would have made, just as a side note, the guys, both Biden and Trump. Trump was wearing a blue jack, had a sport coat and pants and slacks, and Trump was wearing a full out suit with his signature red tie. And they're not walking around to the dusk. You would think they would would put on jeans at a collared like golf shirt just to try to fan a little more with the surroundings. But anyway,

that's just sort of it. I'm being a fashion consultant now, well, I don't think that you're wrong on that. It's sort of like, you know, dress for your environment and be a real person. And I think that. But you suggest to something yesterday, Amy that that stuck with me. Later you said he is either Biden or Trump going to talk with any migrants, and I started, altah, of course, not. Well they

didn't. But would that be such a bad idea? Would it be so wrong for either of them to because there are plenty of folks going through processing. You could go sit down with people and say, what are you doing here? What is it? Why did you come here? What's the situation at home? That well, I think would have been fact finding right there, right right, Like if you really wanted to solve the problem, maybe you'd find these things out. Yeah, yeah, And I think neither one

of them wants to humanize the people who are coming across too much. Yeah, which is too bad because because they are people, you know, you know, despite the portrayals as criminals and thugs and all edge primarily families and a lot of women and little kids in some cases. All right, Jimmery, and thank you so much for checking in with us. We appreciate it. Have a great weekend fighting here. Take care. Let's get back to

some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. LA County Supervisor Katherine Barger says officials are paying attention to the ongoing odor and health issues around the Chiquita Canyon landfill in the Santa Clarita Valley. This board, in collaboration with our state partners, will hold the landfill accountable and ensure that they deploy every resource available to solve this problem. Neighbors have sued to shut

the site down. Chiquita Canyon says it's continuing mitigation efforts. Local officials say the site is not out of compliance and can't be shut down yet. Lots of reports of a really foul stench coming from the canyon and also health issues resulting from that. The last of three men charged have pleaded guilty to bombing an abortion clinic in Costa Mesa with a Molotov cocktail. They have a cocktail

of hatred dust. Attorney Martinez Strada says the group was caught with banned weapons, silencers, neo Nazi paraphernalia, and writings declaring an unbelievable desire to murder journalist the hatred towards LBGTQ individuals, towards women, towards people of different races, and trying to start a race war. He says. On top of the twenty twenty two abortion bombing, the group planned to attack a power grid, anti defamation facilities, and Pride Night at Dodger Stadium. The last man

pleaded guilty yesterday. The first sentencing is set for next month at federal court in Santa Ana. Corbin carsen Ke, a fine News governor knew some sys stories of favoritism in the state's new minimum wage law for fast food workers are absurd. Panera Bread was said to be exempt from the law because a franchise, he is a friend of the governor and a longtime donor. But ABC's

Andy Field says Panera may not be exempt after all. California's new law says only restaurants that produce bread for sale on site qualify for an exemption, and since Panera mixes its dough off site, it's not exempt. The minimum wage law takes effect in April, and Chick fil A is recalling some of its sauces. The chain says it's Polynesian dipping cups yummy taken home between February fourteenth and the twenty seventh may have a different sauce in them that includes wheat and

soy allergens, Customers being urged to just toss them. When we come back, we're going to be checking in with the house whisper and the host of Home on Cafe. It's Dean Sharp, fresh off a trip to the International Builders Show, so you can bet he's going to have the hottest new tools to tell us about and all the happening new toys and trends too. You're listening to Wake Up Call on Demand from KFI Am six forty. Here's what

we're following in the KFI twenty four hour news room. Northern California Mountains are under a blizzard warning, with up to ten feet of snow expected to fall in and around Lake Tahoe. Cal Trans is urging drivers to stay off the roads and says travel is going to be nearly impossible because of whiteout conditions. Hundreds of officers have lined the sidewalk and applauded as Michael Moore left LAPD headquarters

more officially retired yesterday after more than forty years with the LAPD. The last six as Chief Assistant Chief. Choi takes over as interim police chief starting today. The University of California at Riverside has increased the maximum size of its class on Disneyland. Students in the class designed theme park rides and attractions. Sounds fun to me. The class has become so popular it's dealing with a real life Disneyland issue, a long line of students waiting to get in. At

six oh five, it's handle on the news. No any want aheaded to Mexico for spring break. We'll tell you why. You might want to rethink that. At five point fifty there might actually be something worth seeing at the movie theater this weekend. And we have ABC's Jason Nathanson to tell us all about it. That's coming up in about fifteen minutes. Right now, let's say good morning to the host of Home on KFI, our very own house

whisper Dean Sharp. Good morning, Amy, Good morning Dean. Fresh off your trip to Las Vegas and the International Builders Show, you got lots of goodies to share with us. Yeah, yeah, it was a good show. It really was great. We just touched down yesterday afternoon, so we're back and we're getting back into the flow, and there was a lot, a lot of confirming some of the things that we've been telling our listeners for a while. But there's always fun new stuff to look at. I was

impressed. I don't know if you got a chance to look at the couple of the videos that I sent you, but I was impressed with how many modern appliances, and I mean, like high tech just hot off the press, modern appliances are being wrapped in vintage packages, vintage skins. This is a trend now. A lot of people interested in retro like modernism, nineteen fifty stuff. They want a kitchen that kind of has that vibe to it

and up until you know, in the last few years. Technically, the way that you handle it is by going and finding, you know, maybe a seventy year old oven, like a hot point or something like that, Yeah, and paying a lot of money to have it restored, at which point you've got a functioning oven, but it's a seventy year old oven as

opposed to something lean and mean and high tech. Well, now you don't have to make that choice anymore, because you can have an oven or a cook top or refrigerator that looks like it came right out of the fifties, but is brand spanking new with twenty first century technology. Okay, here's my

question on this. Is that going to be a passing trend? Because when you get one of these things, especially like I'm looking at this retro looking fridge, I mean, that's that's a big investment and it should be around for a while. Is it going to lose you know, lose its luster quickly? Yeah, you know, I get asked about that all the time, and it's it's it's not it's not a trend. It's and this is not for everybody. This is for people who are committed to for instance,

modernism architecture. This you know, you've got a post modern home, you've got a nineteen fifties kind of of how and you're committed to it. There's no way out of it. There's no way avoiding the fact that this is the architecture of your home and people have been frustrated that they haven't been able to match those up with appliances. So it's not so much a trend where everybody should run out and get an old looking stove, because yeah, not

many people are in that category. But if you are and there are a lot of folks who live in those mid century alms. Palm Springs, for instance, is filled with them. There, that's like the world capital of them. Then you're looking for stuff that fits with that home better than modern appliances have in the past. So it was exciting, okay, and then staying in the kitchen, going to from retro to full on. While this is interesting and innovative, tell us about this kitchen sink that's more than just

a sink, a whole lot more. Yeah, So this was one example, and that's kind of the stuff that we're aiming at everybody when you're planning your new kitchen. When it comes to your appliances and your fixtures, like a sink, you don't have to just think inside the box of Okay, well it's a sink right now, there is everything imaginable at the sink though, the one that I showed you, it has three basins. It's a large sink, three basins. The center basin large enough for big cookie sheets

and pans. It's a big, single basin sink. But on each side the basin to the right that is a top loading mini dishwasher, and the basin to the left is a basin where there's a little bit of a recess container where you can put your veggies that just came from the market. You can set those down there, close the lid, and it will actually do the spray washing of all of your produce for you. So you've got a produce wash bay and a top loading miniature dishwasher for those very very small loads.

Maybe you've just created two or three dishes that need to, you know, to have a run through. All of this is sitting there as a part of this sink, and it's cool looking and you can close the top then too, so you're not looking at that all the time. You see the sink, and then the washer on the right and the left just closes down right exactly exactly way. In fact, when you're washing your vegetables, you want to close the top because there's the bottom sprayer that spray, and

so yeah, they completely close down and seal out of the way. And that means more counter space actually, because you can use the lids to a stack in store things and the sink in the middle. And that's just one example of all the multiple configurations that you can get these days. When it comes to a kitchen sink, okay, and then heading over to the stove. I like this idea because you get those the vents that are big and ugly, the very functional over your stovetop. But this one is disappearing.

Yes, I've had a long difficult relation with hood vents overcooked tops, just because they're either huge and they have to be you know, there's this big bell coming down, and we have to make them look like they belong in the kitchen up. You know, these days, even when we're doing a historic kitchen, so often I just want it to kind of go away. I want to move on to other things. This is the kind of vent hood that works in that way. It actually hides behind cabinetry. It's up

out of the way. It's not a low bridge that I hit my head on all the time at six' three, believe me. And yet it has an eight hundred cfm fan and when you call for it, and you call for it by waving your hand underneath it, it actually telescopes down to about a foot or so away from the top of the pan. It's completely adjustable. You get a fan that powerful right next to where the smoke or the steam is emitting from nothing, I mean nothing thing gets out into the

room. So it reaches down, it puts the suction exactly where it should be when you need it, and then when you're done cooking, it just goes away. That is a very very cool new toy. I like that one. And then the last one is it's a beverage cooler. And going back to the retro thing that you can put in a party room. And it looks like an old classic Fiat it is. It is literally molded from the front of this classic little mini Fiat car and you lift the hood.

It's half of it. It's just you don't get the windshield, but everything windshield for it, you get the front tires, the bumper, the headlights. When you lift the hood, what you find is an amazing, again very high tech beverage cooler in there. So there's room for there's beers and sodas, and there's an ice dispenser and it's all just great. Now it doesn't go outside, it goes inside, but it's so creative. And yes there's a little hole hoorn and the headlights work too. I love that.

I love party rooms because you can have so much fun with them. That would be a really cool thing. And you can hear more about what Dean discovered at the International Builders Show and lots of other stuff going on this weekend on Home with Dean Sharp. You can listen six to eight am on Saturday and nine to noon on Sunday. Thank you date absolutely, Thanks Amy. All Right, let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the

KFI twenty four hour newsroom. The latest snow survey in the Southern Sierra shows the snowpack in the area at seventy seven percent of average, compared to one hundred and seventy seven percent this time last year. Statewide, the snowpack is at almost eighty percent of average. On January first, that number was just twenty eight percent. State meteorologist Michael Anderson says the blizzard conditions this weekend will

add to the snowpack. I mean, these are phenomenal accumulations of snow five to ten feet above five thousand feet one of four feet in that three to five thousand foot range. Northern California already has more snow than the state average, and as we've been telling you, it's expecting another ten feet of snow to hit this weekend. You're listening to a wake up call on demand from KFI Am six forty. Thanks for starting You're Friday with us. Here's what

we're following in the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. The big storm moving through northern California is prompted Yosemite National Park to shut down. Visitors have been told to leave no later than noon today. Several feet of snow is expected to fall in the park through the weekend. Snow levels in southern California are expected to drop to about four or five thousand feet, with up to a foot

About four hundred people are going to lose their jobs. We're just minutes away from handle on the news this morning. Elon Musk has sued Open AI the company behind chat GPT. Bill's going to tell you why. Right now, let's check in with ABC's entertainment guru. It's Jason Nathanson. Jason, finally something to look forward to at the box office this weekend. Yeah, thank god, because there's been some real stinkers the past few weeks and not

a whole lot of money at the box office so far this year. So June two is going to open. It's going to be the biggest opening so far this year. This was a movie that, remember, was moved from November of last year to this time because of the strikes, remember the actors str Yeah, those things, those things that happened last year. They thought, you know, Warner Brothers was worried that this movie wasn't going to get

the promotion it deserved. And for sure, you've seen a lot of promotion over the past couple of months with they've had endless screenings and the cast out there doing all kinds of interviews on every show and everything. So finally that all comes to a culmination and now you have Dune Part two, which I got to say, I went into a little bit apprehensive because I was not a big fan of Dune Part one. Ah huh, it just did not work for me. I thought it was long. I thought it was pretty

boring. I didn't get into the world and the mythology and everything. Dune Part two fantastic. Really, Yeah, this is what I wanted I guess Dune Part one to be, which is interesting because I mean it's rare for a movie a sequel to kind of shift a perspective like that. Yeah, and really come and not only be better, and it is, you know, in terms of the reviews, it is much better reviewed. Although Dune Part one was pretty well reviewed and got a bunch of Oscar nominations and wins

for special effects and things like that. People really liked it and it did well at the box office, but it didn't sit right well with everybody, and I was one of those. So part two, if Timothy Shallomey is back as Paula Trad's and he is basically this is a revenge movie. The first one set it up where everything happened, and you know, his family was wrong and his father was killed and now he is out for revenge. I highly recommend if you're gonna go see this, that you catch up on

what happened in the first one. So it's going to ask you do you have to go Do you have to watch the first one? You don't have to watch it, but you need to read a detailed description just to remember, because if you're anything like me, you know, hours after watching something, it's out of my head. I don't retain that kind of stuff. Yeah. So and this was, you know, the first one came out

in twenty twenty one. It was one of those that came out, you know, it did come out during the pandemic and when people weren't really going to theaters, although they did go to see this. The opening weekend was something like forty million, but it was I think it was they released it at home or around the same time as well, so you know, you might not It's been three years basically, so you might not remember. And this is very complicated. It's sprawling, there's a lot of characters, a

lot of characters with weird names. You know. It's just one of those things that you're you're not going to remember everything. And the more you know, even I you know, read up on it and got detailed stuff, and even with that, I was still some stuff still confused me a little bit. In part two. Not gonna lie and you do this a living as are screwed, right, there's a lot going but there's a lot going on. Yeah, But this time around, for whatever reason, the mythology

is so much richer and more interesting. The cinematography is beautiful, of course, the special effects absolutely captivating. Okay, and and everybody you know. Rebecca Ferguson is absolutely fantastic as Timothy telling his mom she gets a lot more to do here. Zendaia is also great. She gets a lot more to do. She was barely in the first one. Florence Pugh this time around, Austin Butler as the bad guys. Right, that is Elvis correct in

a in a very almost unrecognizable character here he's he's fantastic. So all around, two thumbs up, you know, whatever scale you want to give it, that's a glowing recommendation. Yeah, Jason, all right, let's switch over to the stream. Adam Sandler has a new movie out, and he's not funny in this one. No, And I wish I liked Spaceman as much as I liked doing Part two, but that's sadly not the case.

Spaceman is a it's not your typical Adam Sandler movie. So don't expect, you know, going in with him doing the spaceman, you know, doing an accent and things like that. That's not what this is, because that would be funny. That would be funny. He plays an astronaut who's on a very long I think, like over a year mission to go check something out in space, and he's by himself. So this whole thing, the whole movie is about loneliness. It's about loneliness and leaving. I don't need

to go to the movies for that. Well, then you can watch you can watch it at home alone, alone, by yourself, and that loneliness. I think the appeal of this movie, especially for an actor like Adam Sandler. And they didn't say this during the press, but that this is about it's very similar to an actor who leaves their family and goes to do a movie for six months or a year. The same kind of feelings of loneliness and talking to your family over the phone and not being able to really

connect. There's a lot of that here, and I think that's what it's really about at its core essence. But it's achingly slow. It's all about dreams and flashbacks. Which I really don't like. There's a there's a His wife is played by Kerry Mulligan. She's pregnant and back on Earth, and you know they're having a tough time really connecting. There's a spider like alien voiced by Paul Dano who the two of them do connect. He's not a scary it's not a scary movie type thing at all, but it just it

did not work for me. Okay, Well, then let's move on to something else. Yes, sure, Showgun, Yes, fantastically reviewed news series on FX, a ten episode limited series. There was an Amy winning nineteen eighty NBC mini series. You might remember this with Richard Chamberlain. I went and looked it up last night. There you go, and this is I haven't seen it yet. It's getting rave reviews. I think at one point it was one hundred percent frush rated on Rotten Tomatoes. Men's Health magazine said

it's pure epic television. Well, there you go. I haven't read Men's Health Magazine in quite a while for their movie and TV show recommendations. I didn't either. I just read the headline because I was wondering if it was tied to if it was a remake of the nineteen eighty movie series. I mean it's based the original source material is a book, James Clavell's novel,

so that's where they both come from. It's set in feudal Japan. It's sixteen hundred, so it's period piece, civil wars brewing, and you kind of get to the sides of that. So this is definitely one that I'm going to be checking out this weekend. Okay, So Showgun worth a watch, and you highly recommend Dune too. There you have it, you guys. You know what to do for the weekend. There you go, and I know what to do because my direct TV is out, dang it.
