You're listening to KFI AM six forty Wake Up Call with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio app five o'clock straight up. Time to get up and get going if you have to get up and get going. This President's Day, Happy President's Day. Wouldn't be cool if we had more cool presidents like President Washington and Lincoln. Just a thought. A lot of people not working today. Of course, if you're listening to my voice right now, you're
not one of them, so we'll all get through it together. But no no mail service today, no banks, stores are all open, and isn't now the time for good sales on mattresses the President's Day? Think okay? Also, the rain is here. Roads weren't too bad when I came in this morning, but the rain's expected to fall for the next couple of days. And of course there's floodwatches and that kind of stuff. So if you are hitted out, just my words to the wise, slow down. We
didn't have a lot of speeders on the roadway today. There actually weren't very many people on the road this morning. Of course, I come into work at three point thirty in the morning, so I might have a different experience than you got lots of fun stuffan plan for you. Today, We're going to take a look back at the People's Choice Awards which happened last night. Also the Baftives were handed out last night, which is like the UK's version
of the Oscars. And we're going to get a little shaky. And we're also going to decipher some dreams. That's all coming up in the next hour. So much to do, so here's what's ahead on wake up call. The latest winter storm to hit southern California has much of the area under a floodwatch and that's going to last through Wednesday. Forecasters are calling for two to five inches of rain in coastal and valley areas, four to eight inches in
the foothills and mountains. Up to a foot of snow as possible above seven thousand feet. Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalney's widow has accused the Kremlin of hiding his body to cover up his murder and promise to continue her late husband's fight. These teams says his mother and lawyers were denied access to his body and
told the investigation into what killed him had been extended. Former New York Republican Representative George Santos is suing Jimmy Kimmel, claiming Kimmel duped Santos into making cameo videos and then making fun of him on his late night talk show. Santos is seeking seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars in damages. Let's get started with
some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. More rain he is moving through southern California's I just mentioned the National Weather Services the Central Coast is at risk of significant flooding. Flood watches and warnings have been issued for coastal and mountain areas up and down the state. Governor Newsom has
activated the State Operations Center to help coordinate the response to the storm. He's also directed the state's Office of Emergency Services to reposition swift water rescue teams and other equipment in several counties to be able to respond quickly if needed. The LAPD says gang enforcement officers in South LA have arrested three men and confiscated seventeen
weapons, including a half dozen ghost guns. Police say officers were monitoring a group of fifty to seventy gang members on Saturday who were drinking and smoking on a public sidewalk copsey. One guy tried to toss a gun, another allegedly left with a weapon. More guns were found inside a warehouse and outside between parked cars. Pastor Joel Ostein has held a special Sunday service at his megachurch in Houston to talk about living without fear. It comes a week after a
woman with a rifle opened fire in his sanctuary. As a church, we could shrink back. That is dangerous. Let's hide our line, Let's just go under the raid ar. But this is a time to shine brighter than every he told the congregation. God's God us covered. The shooter was killed by two off duty police officers. Her seven year old son was shot in
the head and is in critical condition. A missile attack by Houthi rebels in Yemen has severely damage a Belize flagged ship in the Bob Almandeb Strait that connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. The British military's United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center reported an explosion yesterday close to the ship. The crew had to abandon ship. A Hoothy general issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack,
saying the ship was at risk of sinking. Oppenheimer is the big winner at the British Academy Film Awards. The film swept the Baftist Sunday Night, taking home seven awards. Christopher Nolan won for Best Director, Gillian Murphy took home Leading Actor. Robert Downey Junior got Best Supporting Actor. The movie also won Best Film. Poor Things came in second. It had five wins, including a win for Emma Stone for Leading a Leading Actress. And as I
mentioned, the Baftis are kind of the UK's version of the Oscars. Okay, so last night was the People's Choice Awards and it was on CBS, but it was also live streaming on Peacock, So I don't know if they keep those awards shows up on a street service. Maybe can go watch it if you're interested in watching it. I like People's Choice Awards because it's voted on by the fans. It's the only one that's actually voted on by the fans. But until I went and googled it last night, I was like,
how do fans vote on it? Well, apparently there's a website and they had voting open between January eleventh and nineteenth. Obviously I didn't vote on it, but maybe next year I will. Kind of an interesting show. I thought it was very heavy on the just kind of stuff around the show, and I wanted to just see the awards. I like awards shows. I want to see who won. But you know, they had Lenny Icon or Lenny Icon. Lenny Kravitz got the Music Icon Award, and I hate
when they lip sync, but I love Lenny Kravitz. But he did say probably the best line of the night when he won his award, and toward the end of it, he was talking about his career and everything, and he said, I just have this message because he's all about peace and love, and he said, one God, one people, one planet. I loved that. I just thought that was a cool message. Adam Adam Sandler got one of the Icon Awards, and he did this weird rambling speech before
it got cool at the end when he thanked his family. But here's here's one of the things that I think is interesting about the People's Choice Awards too. If you it's one of the few, well, it's the only awards ceremony that I've actually been to, and it was kind of fun to go to an awards ceremony, but they're not that fun to be at, you know, because they're made for TV. They're not made for the audience necessarily.
But I I think that they well I know this that the winners know ahead of time, so they've been told because it's not one of the big ones where everybody's going to come out for it. So they're like, oh, Jennifer Aniston, you won, you better be at the award show, and she was. But because of that, when they're showing the celebrities and the audience, if you know that little secret, you know who won already.
Like Gray's Anatomy was there and they kept showing the cast of Gray's Anatomy and I was like, wow, why aren't they showing any of the other TV shows? Well, Grays and Anatomy won for Best TV Show. So again this is fan voted because personally, I think Gray's Anatomy has kind of
jumped the shark and has been over for a couple of years. But whatever other TV shows that won for comedy was only Murders in the Building, which is interesting because it's nominated a lot, and that's with Steve Martin and Martin Short and it's always nominated, but it almost never wins, so that the
fans like it is interesting makes me want to watch it. The Last of Us won Best Drama, Yay Loki got the Best sci Fi Fantasy Show, and then as far as the binge worthy shows, I thought this was a fun category because I love a good binge the most binge worthy show or the best binge worthy show, and it was up against things like Beef and Jury Duty, which I loved, and Bridgerton the Queen Charlotte version of it The
Crown, and the one that won was The Summer I Turned Pretty. I've never even heard of it, but I think it's not necessarily for me. I think it's for younger, younger people, so and I when I would guess that the fan voted thing that they the younger people is voting more. Jennifer Aniston won Top Drama TV Star for The Morning Show That's Great, and
then for movie Barbie one for Best Movie and also Best Comedy Movie. Ryan Gosling got Best Actor, Margot Robbie got Best Actress, and Best Drama Movie was Oppenheimer, which, by the way, I watched over the weekend because it was a binge kind of weekend, and I thought that was cool.
So here's my idea, because the going back to the winners already knowing that they win, because they come up on stage and they act really surprised and they give these, you know, very nice speeches, but they act like they didn't know, and I'm like, dude, we all know that, you know. So my idea is, do the show announce who's nominated, but then have the winners come out onto stage, not like hang out in the audience because it's a giveaway, and just acknowledge that they won, and
then they can still think all the people that they liked. Right. I also think it was a little too much fluff. Just do the awards and then one final note on the People's Choice Awards, which overall, you know, it's not a bad awards show. It's an awards show. But when they come out and they go I love you guys, I love you all. And Jennifer Aniston, who I really like, she came out and said I love you all, and I was like, Jennifer, you don't love us all. You don't know us all. Stop the I love you all
stuff. Anyway, that's People's Choice. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. A man and Van Eyes is recovering after he was attacked by two people who broke into his home. Police say the man came home Saturday night and found the two people inside. They say the bad guys attacked the homeowner and then took off with money and other items from the home. Didn't say how much. No arrests have

Corbin Carson kf I News, Ohio Republican Congressman JD. Vans has told a security conference in Germany Russia has an incentive to negotiate peace. He says the aid package for Ukraine that's stuck in Congress would not fundamentally change the reality in Ukraine because what they need is weapons America, and this is true by the way of Europe too. We don't make enough munitions to support a war in Eastern Europe, a war in the Middle East, and potentially contingency in East
Asias. Former President Trump and Congressman Lindsay Graham have said the sixty billion dollars for Ukraine in the aid package should be alone, not just a gift. The Top Court of the United Nations in the Netherlands has been listening to arguments over Israel's occupation of lands wanted for a Palestinian state, including the West Bank and East Jerusalem, South Africa brought the charge that life for Palestinians in Israeli

This is a vision of a twenty fifth century apart time. South Africa has called for an end to the war that started with Moss attacking Israel in October. Health officials in Gaza say more than twenty nine thousand

He also said he was a little disappointed that he didn't get to take
a picture with Tiger Woods, who withdrew from the tournament on Friday. Turns out he had the flu. You're listening to wake up call on demand from KFI Am six forty. If you are like us working today, here's what we're following in the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. The National Weather Service has issued a floodwatch across southern California. It's going to last through Wednesday morning. Their warning of heavy rains, strong winds, rock slides on canyon roads,
and debris flows in areas burned by wildfire. Mayerbaths says the risk of mudslides and power out is greater because of all the rain we've had in recent weeks. President Biden is headed to La tomorrow for fundraisers. He will be at one hosted by Casey Wasserman, the chairman of the LA twenty twenty eight Olympic Games and actually the planning group and also a longtime party boosters Hayme and Cheryl Samons. The bahn Deadline reports tickets arranging from thirty three hundred to a quarter
million dollars. Hi Yai. What may have been the last weddings ever at the Wayfarer's Chapel in Rancho Palace, Verde's has been held. The ceremonies yesterday came days after the chapel was closed. Indefinitely, possibly permanently, because of land movement under the historic Glass Chapel. Our own Chris Adler went out and did a story there last week after they announced that it was closing. Gosh, it's beautiful. You can check it out. It's on the on our
Instagram at KFI AM six forty at six oh five. It's handle on the news. The deadline has passed for the tagged Tower high rise in downtown LA to be cleaned up and secured. Bill's going to talk about what happens next. High above Big Bear Lake, bald eagles Jackie and Shadow are patiently perched
in their nest, incubating three eggs. Jackie laid the eggs in late January, and I have to tell you, I am obsessed with watching it and I got producer and obsessed with it too, because she's always like, have you seen him? Have you seen them this morning? So Jackie's already dealt with strong winds and a whole lot of snow. So far, so good. The eggs are growing. We're getting closer to hopefully the arrival of three
new eaglets. We caught up with the executive director of Big Bear Valley, Sandy steers so sandy with thousands people watching the nest thanks to the camera trained on the eagles and the eggs. This year, as I mentioned, is a big one because there are three eggs and that is a big deal. That's the first time she's had three eggs, and it's actually a rare thing
in eagle world as well. Okay, and last year know that she did she laid three eggs, but none of them ended up surviving and they weren't all together, right, Yeah, and the third one was actually broken when it came out, so that was yeah, it didn't count as three.
Really there was two only, yes, So what are we going to see when we tune in Over the course of the next month, Jackie in shadow that mail will be switching places on the nest, and as the snow gets a little lower, you'll be able to see the three eggs and as they roll them when they stand up, they roll the eggs to make sure that they stay healthy and fresh and developing. Insight of there, and they will
take turns. Often a shadow will bring food for Jackie. He catches fish and brings it to her on the nest, and we get to watch and see what happens with those eggs less than thirty days cool. And one of the things that I've seen there's a live chat that it's not always live, but there's a chat when you go onto the YouTube channel, and a lot of people say, oh my gosh, she's buried in snow. Oh my gosh. Isn't that bad for the eggs? But they're kind of built for
this, right, they're built for this. She is keeping the eggs very warm, and that's why she's been on the nest now for over forty eight hours without leaving, without eating, without anything, And she has over seven thousand waterproof feathers on the outside and down feathers underneath, so she can get completely buried in snow and she just stands up and shakes it off. And she's fide okay. And has has a shadow come to visit or is he
staying away from the nest right now? He has done a couple flybys that we've seen, and yesterday they turtled back and forth at each other, you know, just calling to make sure everything's ok So he's out there. He's keeping a close eye on everything. But when there's bad weather, Jackie won't let him trade or have his turn on the nest. She's the only one
that she trusts to take care of things in bad weather. Okay, what makes this Sandy so special for people to watch because you get to see up close and personal the personality of the eagles, how they interact with each other,
what they do, how they take care of everything. It's not just like watching something far away or something distant, but they have a real personality, so they it's like they're entertaining everybody at the same time as just being who they are, and it's fascinating to watch all the details of what they're doing. It really is, like I keep saying, it's my obsession, and in fact, I had my news director Chris Little came in one year. It was about three years ago. He goes, you got to turn
that camera off. But it's so interesting because, like you said, you see the eagles interact, and you see how protective they are and how they nurture, and especially after the eaglets hatch, it's so fun to watch them feeding them and watching the eglets grow. I have to tell you though, it's also a little bit heartbreaking, and I have shed more than a couple of tears because a couple of years ago. You know, we had two eglets and I sat there and one of them doesn't look well and then it
died and it's heartbreaking, but it's also circle of life stuff. It is you're watching nature up close and you have to watch the whole thing and just see what happens. And sometimes it's sad and sometimes it's you know, amazing and heartwarming and funny, and so you get the whole gamut. Yeah, okay, before we let you go, Sandy and my producer An says, find out how they got the camera up there, because you have cameras trained
on this nest twenty four to seven and they don't go that. I mean, they're on all the time and they're one hundred and forty feet up in a tree. Yes, it's supported by a whole solar panel system to keep it running, and we had to hire special climbers biologists who can also handle all of the equipment and know all the electronics to be able to climb that
tree without harming it. There's a very special way on ropes to climb the tree, and they had to get up there into that nest to be able to install all of this, including pulling cables up, and yes, it was an amazing job that they did. And you got to do it when the eagles aren't there, right, Yes, we do always in the summer when the eagles are out and about around the lake and they're not really paying
attention to the nest because it's not nesting season. Yes, okay. So if people want to tune in, where are they going to find the eagle cam? They can go to our Friends of Big Bear Valley YouTube channel, or they can go to our website friendsobig Bear Valley dot org and both of those have the cam, and we also have a white angle camera that's down from snow right at the moment, but it should be back to there tomorrow,
okay. And if people want to donate to help keep this project going as their place to donate to support Friends of Big Bear Valley, yes on our website again, friends of Big Bear Valley dot org. And every little bit helps because that's the donations are what's supporting this camera and everything we do with it. Okay. And these are truly truly majestic animals. There are a national symbol and so beautiful. So if you get a chance, give them a look. And Sandy Steers, We're going to be watching. I'm
going to be watching. And when are we expecting the first eggs to possibly hatch? If starting starting leap day? Is that when we start pipwatch, which is when the chicks start hatching out by putting a pip in the egg, and so the last day of February or between thirty five and thirty eight days from when they were laid. Okay, great, Sandy Steer, Executive director of Friends at Big Bear Valley, thank you so much for coming on this morning. Okay, that's ten days away. And I've been watching.
An's been watching, and it's cool because the eggs have gotten really big, so I think they're all they're all doing good. And it's gusty, blustery winds up in the Big Bear Eagle cam nest this morning and there's Jackie. Her feathers are flying and she's just hanging there. It's so amazing to watch. I think it's really cool and it's it's kind of peaceful. I don't know, let me know what you think. Let's get back to some of
the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. A substitute teacher in West Covina has been removed from a classroom for allegedly watching inappropriate material on a cell phone during class at an elementary school. Right now, let's say good morning to the author of the Dream Dictionary From A to Z. It's Teresa Chung calling us from When's the UK. Good morning, Teresa. Oh, a dream to be here, Amy, Thank you for inviting me, Oh
anytime. So you know what, I actually have read this book before, and this is like a reissue of a book that you with some updates of a book that you had written a while ago. Right. Oh, it's been around for about twenty years now and it keeps getting reissued. I feel very blessed. It came out in hardback first, and then paperback and then
reissue, reissue, and it's a dream come true for an author. It really is to have a book like that coming out time and time again, and each time it comes out there's renewed interest, and I think it's something that kind of universally people are interested in because we all dream, and you're a dream expert. So Teresa, I'm going to ask you the first incredibly
broad question, what are dreams and why do we dream? Dreams are your uncought, conscious thoughts, feelings, wishes, and hopes, and you get to see them up close and personal every single night when you fall asleep, and to not recall a dream is such a precious waste of precious wisdom.
And I hope everybody listening, because we're early in the morning where you are, that there's some dream recall on their mind, because pondering the meaning of those dreams can lead to all sorts of creative connections and associations that can aid your personal growth and in some cases push humanity forward. Dreams have changed history.
Well, so here's my question, because I knew I was talking to you today, Teresa, and so I was like, I'm going to remember my dreams, and here here are just a couple of them that I had last night. One I was on the air with Gary and Shannon, they host our midday show, and also was on the air with my old morning show partner from like twenty years ago, who since passed away, and they
were both in their dreams last night. And it's basically you connecting your past self with your present self and also maybe wanting to return to that early passion when you began your broadcasting career, finding you know, strength in that as
you look forward to your future. I mean, it's beautiful that kind of dream when you have symbols from the past, reminding you of why you're doing something, because sometimes we forget, we get so busy with the day to day routine, we lose touch with what really was our passion in the beginning and what gave us meaning. And that dream is just reminding you carry on doing what you're doing and remember why you're doing it. Oh, I mean,
dreams are deep. They are messages from your deep And as I say, when people share their dreams, they really are sharing a piece of their souls, of their true self. Dreams don't lie. That's what I often say to people. It takes a while to convince them because dreams speak in this symbolic language. A big problem with dream interpretation is people want the literal meaning. And ninety nine nine percent of the time, your dreams are talking
to you like a poet or an artist would. They're putting in poetic or artistic narrative for you to go away and decode. And what's the value of that. It encourages you to reflect more deeply on who you are and the meaning of your life. And I don't know anyone's life who would not benefit from more reflection. And that's what dreams call us to do night after night after night. Okay, well, then here's a problem with that, Theresa.
This leads to my next question, because I had my three dreams that I remembered from last night that I wrote down like right when I got up, and by that time I had already started to forget them. Why do we forget our dreams so fast? Because they come from a different state of consciousness when we're asleep, an alternate reality which is subtle and gentle, and
it's the voice of intuition and creativity. Unfortunately, as soon as we wake up and go into conscious reality, our ego the stresses of the day ahead, logic and reason, which are totally absent in the dream state. That's the beauty of it. There's no logic and reason. They are more dominant, and they take over, and they will squash it and say this is
non right, this is actually random nonsense. But I'm on a mission to get everybody to reconnect with their intuition and creativity and the place where they can to spend logic and reason for a while and make creative connections they simply couldn't do in their waking life. Because when you're awake often logic and reason will say no, that's not possible. In the dream state, you see, anything is possible, and it is actually one of the greatest manifesting tools.
People don't realize that if you can actually dream yourself doing something, it means you're unconscious actually believes it to be possible. And we all know that when you believe, truly believe deep down something is possible, that's when you start attracting it to you. Go ahead, go ahead. Now, a lot of us talk do the positive thinking and the affirmations and say, but deep
down we've got those niggling doubts and fears. And that's why dream works so powerful, because you can get to face those doubts and iron them out and learn from them and grow from them and heal them. But you can't always do that when you're awake. Okay, So, Teresa, then that is interesting that you say that those are like dreams and aspirations because my favorite dream
is flying. Oh. I hope you fly a lot in your dreams, Amy, because it means you're rising above and seeing the bigger picture of your life. Flying dreams. I wish everybody would have more flying dreams. Unfortunately, the majority of our dreams tend to be anxiety seemed, those too got a lot of things. But that's because in our waking life we deny and we repress and we don't want to go there. Okay, but our dreams know that we need to go there for our personal growth. Because you never
learn in your comfort zone. You learn outside your comfort zone. Your dreams want you to get comfortable getting uncomfortable, you know what I mean. That's where all the growth and meanings to be found. Okay, and Teresa the like, we were talking about the dreams and deciphering them is the big issue, and that's where your book comes in. It's the dream Dictionary from a disease. So in thirty seconds or left, just give us a quick quick
recap of what your book is about. It's basically an A to Z of the most common universal archetypeal dreams that sleep research and dream research suggest you are going to have at some point in your life. So you can look in
there and it will kick start that symbolic metaphorical thinking that you need. We once all spoken that symbolic language, but we've lost touch with it over time because we've got so logical and rational and It will kick start that ability to look beneath the surface and not interpret on the literal level, but to go layer deeper and deeper for the hidden meanings. And once you use the dictionary on a regular basis, soon you will become your own dream decoder. Because
really the best person to interpret your own dreams is you. But sometimes we need that kickstart, and that's what the Dream Dictionary is. It will kick start that ancient symbolic thinking that can really lead to such precious wisdom if we just give ourselves a little bit time to remember our dreams in the morning, I trust me you will not regrett it. Okay, Teresa Chan, author of the Dream Dictionary. From A to Z, thank you so much.
I love that you have a dream decoder, so thank you for your time. I'm going to start writing down my dreams more often because when you do think about them now, I'm sort of remembering the ones that I had last night, going those are so weird, I wonder what they mean, And now I have your dictionary to let me start it out. It's a poetic voiceover commenting on your daily life, and it's fascinating to go back in time
and sometimes reread dreams that you had from weeks past. And see, oh my goodness, my dreaming mind knew exactly what I should do, but I wasn't picking up on it. It's that poetic voice over a narrative. It's fascinating. The best book you will ever read really is your own dream dictionary. You're a one that you write yourself. Love Teresa Cheang, thank you again for your time this morning. We really appreciate it. Sweet dream, thank you, thank you. And if you want dreams, we have a
copy of her book to give away. And it's the Dream Dictionary of Me to Z and I've been like thumbing through it again, really interesting and like you're going, oh that means that, Oh, that could mean that. So we've got it for caller number ten. It's the Dream Dictionary from A to Z and the number to call is one eight hundred five to zero one KFI. That's caller number ten at eight hundred five two zero one five three four And you two can decode your dreams. When we come back, we're
going to be uh getting ready. Let's start that again. When we come back, we're gonna get ready to do some shaken in La. You're listening to wake Up call on demand from KFI Am six forty. It is President's Day. Did you set your alarm by mistake and you don't have to work today? Well you might as well stay up. You're up. Now here's what we're following in the KFI twenty four hour news room. Oh but before
we do that, congratulations to dreen in Lake Elsinor. She just pick up a copy of the Dream Dictionary and is going to learn how to decode her dreams. Pretty fascinating. Now here's what we're following in the CAFI twenty four hour newsroom. The National Weather Service has issued a floodwatch across southern California goes through Wednesday morning. There are warnings of heavy rain, strong winds, rockslides
on canyon roads, and possible debris flows in areas burned by wildfires. Mayor Bath says the risk of mudslides and power outages is greater because of all the rain we've had in recent weeks. What may have been the last weddings ever at the Wayfarers Chapel in Rancho Palace, Verdies were held. The ceremonies yesterday
came days after the chapel was closed. Indefinitely, possibly permanently. Because of land movement under the historic Glass Chapel, fans are going to have to wait a little while longer to see new Dodger Shohe Otani play his first game for the Boys in Blue. The team says Otani will not play in the Dodgers' first spring training game in Arizona that happens Thursday. The Dodgers are hoping to have him ready to hit in time for their first game that counts on March
twentieth. We're just minutes away from Handle. On the news this morning, four hundred Russians have been arrested for protesting the dest death of Alexei Nambalni. Right now, let's say good morning to the chief Mitigation officer for the California Earthquake Authority. It's Janille Maffey. Good morning, Janille, good morning. Nice to talk to you this morning. Well, thank you for getting up early to join us, because we have important information about how you can get
your home ready for shaking. Tell us. Tell us about the bolt. I'm sorry, where is the name of it? Tell us about the grant program that you are offering. Yeah, no problem, earthquake brace Bolt's program. Yeah, so older houses, I would say pre nineteen eighty you might have this problem. Pre nineteen forty, you do. Older houses just were built before we had all the seismic information in our building codes, so they
don't have the same protections as newer houses have against damage to earthquakes. Earthquake Brace and Bold has a grant program of up to three thousand dollars plus supplementary grants for income qualifying households to retrofit these houses, and registration is open through
midnight Wednesday. Okay, so time is running out on this and so important because you know, Janielle, when you watch earthquakes in other countries like in Turkey and Afghanistan, there's been just devastating earthquakes and you hear about the death toll is super high and the houses are just flattened. And we have such so much better earthquakes standards, which is the reason that the devastation is still
there. But you know, people's survive earthquakes here. Absolutely. We have had a California building code for a very long time with seismic provisions, you know. And we're also fortunate in that our predominantly our single family dwellings are wood framed, and they're not as dangerous as these taller concrete buildings, but they do come off their foundations, these older ones, particularly the pre nineteen four and when they do, it's disruptive, it's dangerous, and you know
the dollars. You could be half a million dollars in damage and the retrofit is about two hundred dollars. That's the median throughout the state. So really really great cost benefit analysis and this program will help you do it. And who is eligible for the grants, right, So you need to be owner occupied, you need to be in one of our zip codes. We're now in eight hundred and fifteen zip codes, great coverage throughout the high hazard areas
in California. And you need to have this particular kind of house. So this is not a slab on grade or a hillside house. This is a house that has a crawl space. So you can see those vent holes around the bottom of your house. You could poke your head in an access panel and see the wood framing and it just needs to have bolting and plywood bracing
in that crawl space. Takes about two to three days, pretty easy to do, and we'd love to have you join us if you've got this vulnerability, okay, and that's amazing that it's an average cost of like just over five thousand dollars, because I was worried that it was like a three thousand dollars grant for a fifty thousand dollars project or something like that. No, no, no, no, yeah, so affordable. And boy, it can save your house and your life probably, that's right, that's right.
When these houses come down, even if they come down just two feet with the furniture flying around, this can be dangerous as well. As you know the map earthquake two years to get back in your house. Oh and that's no funny either, being out of your house. Okay, Where do we find out if our homes are eligible and how and where to apply for the grants because as you mentioned, we only have until midnight Wednesday to do it, right, So earthquake bracebolt dot com. Earthquake brace bolt dot com.
Lots of easy questions and great customer service if you need our help with with the registration. Thank you so much. Janelle Maffey. Of course, encourage you to do this, protect your house and protect yourself for the next shaking. It's only a matter of time. Thank you very much. All right, thanks Janaille from the California Earthquake Authority. Let's get back to some of
the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Descendants of a black businessman have called on the City of Santa Monica to return land they say is rightfully theirs. The land is currently home to the Viceroy Hotel. It once belonged to Silas White, who bought the property in nineteen fifty seven and was hoping to turn it into a beach club for local black residents. A year later, the city took the land through eminent domain. White died in
nineteen sixty two. The effort to regain the land comes a few years after La County returned to property in Manhattan Beach known as Bruce's Beach to the Bruce family. The City of Manhattan Beach took that land through eminent domain in the nineteen twenties. Three members of our team made the ultimate sacrifice. The vigil's been held in Minnesota for two police officers and a firefighter killed by a man who shot at them from inside a house with seven kids inside. The first
responders were answering a domestic violence call early yesterday. Police Chief Tanya Schwartz spoke to people at the vigil last night. There is an officer who is in the hospital. He and his family also needs your good thoughts. The family in the home was able to get out safely. The shooter was found dead inside. A golden eagle found unable to fly in Riverside County has been released back into the wild after spending two weeks at the San Diego Humane Society's Ramona
Wildlife Center. The eagle was covered in mud and manure when it was found earlier this month. It had some abrasions on its feet and was underweight. A team of vets gave the bird pain meds, treated it for parasites and dehydration, and gave it time to recover. It was set free yesterday. Love that you've been listening to Wake Up Call with me, Amy King.
