You're listening to KFI AM six forty wake Up Call with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio app KFI and KOSTHD two, Los Angeles, Orange County. How goes it, mister Warlock? Winter? Please? I've got my magic power working just fine. I can cast up a big freeze, Yes, sir, I think I can guarantee oh white Christmas wonderful. Then let's be off. It's time for your morning wake up call. Here's Amy Kay. You bet watch John? You bet are not? Try? You bet?
Are not? I Sata Clauses coming to the time. Nos he is in twelve more days. I check in it. It's five o'clock on your wake up call. Good morning, I'm Amy King. Happy Tuesday. I just watched Santa Claus Is Coming to Town the other night. I do think that of all all of the Christmas movies, that is my number one, and I still I'm such a wiss I still get teary eyed every year when I watched it. Here's another way that I got into the Christmas spirit.
Yesterday went to Disneyland. I mean, how do you go wrong when you do that? Had a great day. They have their Festival of Holidays going on where they have all these kiosks set up in Disney California Adventure and you get basically it's not tapas, but it's small plates of stuff so you can go around and try stuff. Food's delicious. So we kind of sampled our way through the parks and we watched the tree lighting in on Main Street in Disneyland. Did you stay for the snow? No? No, because I
had to get home go to bed. I did not see snow, but it was kind of like we had snow because during the tree lighting there were these kids with those little bubble makers behind us and they had those going full force, and we're like, what is that? It was children? And here's when thing that I noticed yesterday that I probably notice all the time. But you know how like there are parking lots all over the place that it seems like more and more they have more of those compact spots, which just
means door dings. Disney does not do that. They have those massive parking structures and there's room for your car. So when I got out of the car, I was like, I'm thankful for Disney and no door dings today. So anyway, that's that was my takeaway from Disneyland yesterday, but a
lot of fun. Here's what's ahead on wake Up Call. LA Police helicopters cost taxpayers about forty six million dollars per year, and audit by the city Controller's office shows sixty one percent of the time the seventeen LAPD helicopters are in the air, they're not for high priority calls. We're going to be talking more about this with ABC's Karen Traverse in about two or three minutes. Authorities are trying to figure out how a man from Russia was able to get on a plane in Copenhagen, Denmark and fly to Lax without a ticket or a passport. A man apparently wasn't
hiding. He was sitting there with other passengers. He appears to have snuck by security in Copenhagen. He's been arrested and is facing charges of stowing away on a flight. Let's get started with some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. A fire has destroyed the California Yacht Club in Marina Del Rey. The fire was reported late last night and was soon declared a second alarm, which means more firefighters are needed to fight it.
Two firefighters were hurt. They've been taken to the hospital. A former La Kenny Sheriff's deputy who improperly detained a man in Compton then tried to cover it up, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison. The judge said mcgilvy Vega's conduct embarrassed every person who puts on a badge. Vega and his partner and properly detained a man who told them to leave two men they were
questioning alone. After driving away from the park, Vega continued to taunt and threatened the victim, including threatening to drop them off in gang territory where the victim would be beaten. US Attorney spokesman Kieren McAvoy says Vega crashed while the man was in the car, which injured the man. The deputies then told other deputies. In twenty twenty that they detained the guy because he was high on meth. Blake trolley k if I News. A suicide bomber has attacked
a police station in northwest Pakistan, killing twenty three officers. Officials say the man was in a vehicle full of explosives that were detonated at the police station's main game gate. Pakistan's army says six militants then started shooting. The fight with security forces lasted hours before the terrorists were killed. A pregnant woman in Texas who was seeking an abortion has left the state to have it done. The Texas Supreme Court last night ruled against the woman, who wanted an emergency
medical exception to the state's strict abortion ban. ABC's ran On Alice's Kate Cox had already left Texas when the decision came down. Cox's attorneys say the decision left her with no choice but to seek medical care in another state, but she still wanted to pursue the legal case in Texas. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton argued the condition of the woman's fetus did not meet the medical exception to the state's abortion law. The Texas Supreme Court had called on the State's Medical
Board to provide more guidance on the medical emergency exception. Let's say good morning to ABC's Karen Travers at the White House. Karen, a pretty high stakes meeting for Ukraine's President Zelenski today, Yeah, it is. The President will be going to Capitol Hill first to meet with lawmakers, try to make his case for why Ukraine aid is so critical and why the US cannot have any
laps in support for his country. And then he'll be coming here to the White House to meet with President Biden in the of a office for a couple of hours, and then the two leaders will deliver remarks and take questions from
reporters. But Winehouse says that this visit comes at a very critical time, exactly the right time for Zolensky to be making this case, because Russia is increasing their missileing drone attacks on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, and Zolenski will be saying what this means for his country and how the people in Ukraine are suffering right now, and how the support from the United States and also European allies is what is keeping them in the fight at this point, and what it
will mean for his country in January and February if it stops. But we've talked about this. The site on Capitol Hill is beyond Ukraine. It's about border policy right now, and it's not clear where there is a compromise to be reached, and it's not clear what will satisfy Republicans on what the president could compromise on. Nobody is talking publicly about what the negotiations are entailing at
this point, so we don't have a lot of details. But it's hard to see what President Zolensky can make a case about today that can convince minds on the border aspect of it, because there's such two separate issues, right It's like he can go in and say, hey, I really need this, and everybody will go, yeah, of course you really need your aid. But there's another issue looming and just sitting out there that needs to be addressed. Yeah, and you have Republicans who are at the center of the
border negotiations, James Langford of Oklahoma. There's like Mitch McConnell, the minority leader, Mitt Romney, a leading voice who all support aid for Ukraine, but they say it has to come with major concessions by the White House major agreements on border policy, so that's the sticking point at this point. They don't need to be convinced necessarily by Zolensky to get the aid done. It's
just a matter of how it gets done on the House side. Maybe Zolensky has more of a case to make, but he's also made this case before, and it's not clear that anything he'd say now would be changing minds on some of the more hardline Republicans there. We don't support this assistant. Okay, And Karen, has anyone er have you heard any rumblings about why they don't just break up this aid package so we can do the Ukraine part and
then deal with the other one, because it likely wouldn't get passed. They it all tied together because if it doesn't have any of the border security measures included in it, Republicans would not vote for it. So they've got to have to tie it all together to get it across the finish line. Okay. And President Biden has said publicly I'm willing to move on the border issues, but has he said what? No? And that's you know, the
White House will say we're not going to negotiate this from the podium. We're not going to negotiate this in an Air Force one briefing, so it's not clear exactly where the President is willing to compromise. He said he is willing to meet them somewhere on this issue. We do know, you know, in the request he made, he asked for about fourteen billion dollars for border security. It's more border ai jins, more immigration judges, more asylum officer.
So that was a request for funding. But in terms of the actual policy changes, the White House is not giving any details of that. Okay, well, it's up to Zelensky to shine today. We'll see what happens. Thank you so much, Karen Travers. Appreciate the insight. Have a great day, all right, you too. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. A woman who pointed a gun at a three year old child's head has been shot and killed
by San Bernardino police. It happened at an apartment a complex Sunday. You don't only understand what the purpose or the reasoning was behind the suspect's chaotic behavior, you know, she had actually been very violent with the residents there. For quite some time before we've been got there. Lieutenant Jennifer Correll says.
The woman appears to have been a friend of the child's family. She was out on the balcony when police got there, but then ducked inside and locked the door with the child and wouldn't come out, so they had to kick in the door, and as soon as the door opened, they saw the suspect was standing over the child within just feet with a gun I played directly
at the child's head. That's when the woman was shot. Carrelsa's the woman threatened the child's life again and then was shot again by officers a second time. The intruder spent about a half hour inside and also took religious and sentimental items. The guy was caught on security video.
DJ Rodney Bingenheimer, who was on K Rock for forty years, has been accused of sexually assaulting six underage girls decades ago. Rolling Stone published a report yesterday detailing two of the claims from Gogo's guitarist Jan Wheedland and runaway songwriter Carrie Chrome. Wheedlin alleges she was assaulted by Bingenheimer when she was fifteen and he was about twenty seven. Bingenheimer hosted Rodney on the Rock. On K Rock. Officials in New York say it's a miracle nobody was killed when a
building partially collapsed. ABC's Jim Dolans's witnesses described it as a series of collapses yesterday that started near the top of the building and cascaded down the corner floor by floor. They say it coust a massive pile of dirt and to bring on the ground below, and then a frantic search for survivors. The fire department says it searched the rubble of the multi story complex in the Bronx for nearly seven hours, using drones and canines to see if anybody had been trapped.
The cause of the collapse is being investigated. Officials say they're looking into several reports of violations and complaints about the building. Mexico is putting up its own version of a border all to try to stop people from crossing into the US. San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond praised the efforts, saying the number of crossings along the Tijuana River Canal south of Sandy Cedro has dropped in the last month. I think they should be doing enforcement on their side of the
border as well. A lot of these migrants come from all over the world, so they didn't just start in Mexico, so they're coming through Mexico to get to our southern border. Desmond says the Mexican National Guard is patrolling the area. Signs have also been put up telling migrants that crossing the canal is
illegal and to use the CBP one app to apply for asylum. Hey, I mentioned that we were at Disney yesterday, And as you might have heard us talking about, there are Disney after Dark events, and last year we got to go to i think Princess Knight and also Star Wars Night, and they're fun. They're separate ticketed events and they go from like nine o'clock until one o'clock in the morning. You get access to the park at six,
so you pay for like a separate partial day ticket. But the really cool thing about it is each one is themed and attendance of the park goes down dramatically, so you really if you don't love the crowds, which are part of the Disney experience, it's really kind of a cool chance to go.
There's shorter lines to the rides, and they have all these cool things, like on Star Wars Night, they have Star Wars characters everywhere all over the park, and they have different photo ops and they have specially themed foods and that kind of stuff. So Disney has announced for Disney after Dark events for this year. So it's Star Wars Day, it's Sweetheart's Night, it's the
Gay Pride event, and also a new one is Disney Channel Night. So Disney Channel apparently is going to have like backdrops for photo ops for Camp Rock and the Teen Beach Movie and Lizzie McGuire ive always loved Lyzia McGuire Halloween Town Xenon and for two of these events. If you are a person who wants to go, and you know, you got to get on your computer and you got to start dialing in early to get them because they're in high demand.
Actually go on sale today, so if you're interested in those, then you might want to check that out. And then the Star Wars Night and also the Gay Pride Knights are going to go on sale later, but it's for multiple nights for each event and they're really fun. If you want to check them out, there you have it. Israel says its forces are surrounding

That's up from thirteen percent five years ago. Hispanics make up about half of the total population, and the Asian population is up about two and a half percent. At six oh five, It's handle on the news. Is the cost of LAPD's helicopter program the largest in the nation? Worth it?
We'll be talking about that right now. Let's say good morning too. Joel Larsguard, the host of How to Money here on KFI, Good morning, Joel, morning Amy. Okay, we were going to talk about this last week and we ran out of time, but so we decided we're going to talk about it this week. An article in The Atlantic says inflation is your fault. How is that possible? Because they're talking to you and me and you right right, just every individual out there. It's on you.
Sorry to bear the bad news, but it's you spending that's driving inflation. And it's not that there's like zero accuracy to the headline. But the truth is it's so much more than that, as we all know, and so reading that article, I was just like kind of pulling my hair out, thinking any individual reading this is just going to be like upset and rightly pissed off, because it's not all your fault. There's anybody remember COVID. That
was a big issue that led to so many domino effects. There were there were staying home orders, and then there were there was supply chain issues. And think about all the all the ships sitting off the port not too far from here, and the increased cost of goods because of wars overseas that we had nothing to do with as individual Americans. I mean, all of these things led to the inflational inflation reality that we saw. And so did our
continued spending increase inflation and keep it around a little bit longer. Sure, but the government also stuck money into our accounts three times, And so I guess it's just it's a tough headline to stomach, a tough article to read,
because there's it's just so much more. There's so many more reasons inflation happened than just like Americans spending money well, and during the pandemic, if you're going back to there when they were the incentives people were saving during that period, right, Or are we kind of hoarding money because we didn't have anywhere to spend it? That's exactly right. I mean, yeah, we're staying at home and we're getting our takeout food to support the local restaurants.
But there were just fewer places to spend money. And so when money gets shold into your account and you can't really go out to spend it like you normally would, you don't go to the stores, You're maybe not going to the club you might have gone to to stimulate the economy, more of that money sets in your account, and so there's just been an excess of savings, which is not a bad thing, but that's getting spent down and that
has led to inflation sticking around longer than a lot of people expected. But then again, inflation has come down significantly, and I feel like we're the Fed keeps talking about this soft landing or were going to hit this soft landing where unemployment doesn't spike, where there is no recession, and where inflation gets
you know, comes under control. And it looks like we're headed there, but those headlines, it's just it's kind of tough the stomach because there are so many other realities of inflation and what caused it's not thus spending money. Yeah, and then the other thing you just mentioned. Inflation is coming down
and the rate of inflation is coming down, but there's no deflation. We're still spending, like I just and I know that people talk about it, how much higher the costs are at grocery stores, but everything is higher by like twenty thirty forty percent. Yeah, And I talk about this a lot. Is that your individual rate of inflation is different than whatever the consumer Price
indexcess. Right, So if the CPI says that inflation is three point two or three point five percent or something like that, well you're your particular inflation number as an individual could be a lot higher or it could be a little bit lower. It depends. Like if you bought a house and a car last year, your personal inflation rate is much higher because those are two things that have gone on. Or if you go to a bunch of concerts,
Right, that's another place where I've seen a lot of inflation. But if you know, held off on all those purchases and you bought a flat screen TV or whatever, and you spend your money in other ways, then it's not impacting you to quite the same degree. But you're right, we are saying, and it's really important for us to think as consumers, like,
well, where am I going to spend my money? And so the truth there is some truth to the buyer's revolt, right that if something costs too much, and we say, you know what, I wanted to go to Paris this coming summer, but the plane tickets, you know, fourteen hundred. I'd go for eight hundred, but not for fourteen hundred. That's a really good opportunity for us to exercise our muscle. And granted, none of us as an individual can bring down inflation, you know, but we can
bring it down in our own lives. And I talk about it like it's got this kind of Captain planet effect where if we all kind of combine our powers together, we become Captain Planet. If we all kind of start to balk at some of these higher prices, we do help to bring inflation down. Okay, So then this brings us to our next topic. Because you mentioned houses and you talked about us acting like Captain planet and all bonding together.
Young people want the housing market to crash. Oh yeah, yeah, there was a Yes, there was a new study, and thirty five percent of Americans overall to see a housing crash. But fifty three percent of gen zers and forty six percent of millennials want the housing market to tank. And the answer is pretty self evident. It's it's that, Hey, I want
to buy a house, and I can't afford it right now. And so if prices come cratering twenty thirty forty percent back down, if it's reminiscent of the two thousand and eight housing crash, then maybe I can get in and actually afford to buy a house. So I get the sentiment, But the reality is a housing market crash is highly unlikely given all of the data that we have. So too bad. You're stuck. You're not going to buy a house anytime soon, not necessarily. And I will say there was an
interesting there was an article in the Wall Street Journal this week. It said the math for buying a home no longer works. And the truth is, I'm feeling these questions from listeners all the time. It's like, Hey, I want to buy a house, but it kind of doesn't make financial sense, and part of it the market will come back into some sort of normalcy.
Like the spread between rents and mortgage price is greater than it's been in a long long time, and so you have to be willing to zig when other people are zagging in if something, we have to make value judgments kind of like I was talking about, be willing to walk away from higher prices, and so I think for people who want to buy a home but don't feel like they can afford it yet, even though rents have gone up, well, that mortgage amount has like skyrocketed at a much much faster pace.
So I would say, be willing to hold off, not because there's going to be some sort of housing crash, but so that you can save more of your money, be more prepared when there is not a crash, but in all likelihood more of a minor correction as rates come down more supply comes on the market. I'm not saying that prices are going to come down significantly. I don't see that in the housing market future. We still don't have enough supply as a country. But I think the more you can do to
be prepared on a personal individual level, the better. Off. You're going to be all right, Joel Larscard, Thank you so much. I'm going to smash away my money and be prepared. Sounds good. And we'll get Knos some cash for Christmas too. Yes, all right, we'll talk to you next week. Thanks so much, SIRL. for Christmas interesting. At six five I it's handled on the news. A guy from Russia got on a plane and flew from Copenhagen to lax No passport didn't go through. Security officials are trying to figure out how the heck he did it. At five p fifty we're going to be checking in with ABC's Jim Ryan. It's a porch pirate's paradise out there. We're going to be talking about where to worry the most and how to protect your packages. You
know, this year there is a new twist to Christmas shopping. As you probably have seen by now, more and more businesses have iPads that are asking customers if they want to tip for what, in many cases is just a simple transaction with no extra effort. So that growing number of businesses using credit card machines and they flip it around and they ask you do you want to tip? Well, Diane Gotzman runs the Protocol School of Texas. She says,
you shouldn't be pressured to do it. That little app that they've turned around is a suggestion and we don't have to take that suggestion, She says, the mostly simple transactions at the counter are part of an hourly worker's job. Consider that app a tip jar that's discretionary. Jesuys it is appropriate to tip servers since most of their salary comes from tips. And I agree, and I would say that, Nick and I go out and run around a
lot. Nick POLIOCHINNI yeah, And we're seeing more and more that everywhere you go they flip that thing around and look at you. They really do. And I'm like, I don't get it. I am all for tipping servers, and I will generously tip servers when I get good service, but well, this one just goes to me. It just goes beyond the pale that they're asking us to pay more. Well, not just that, but also, and we've talked about this a couple of times, we don't really know
where that money's actually going. That's true because so not only yeah, so not only is it you know that what you just said, this specifically to somebody who has a lower salary, the tip really helps, but we really don't know at the end of the day, where's that money actually going. Is it going to those people that are turning the screens around to us or
is it going somewhere else within the organization. And I think that's really at the end of the day, my biggest concern is if I'm going to put in, you know, and I'm saying, we're putting in like you know, a couple, you know, rounding up for the tip kind of thing. It's nothing crazy that way, but if we don't know where that money is going, I'm feeling a little bit, you know, I pressured as well as everybody has, you know, kind of like you've got somebody staring
at you now. But then where's that money actually going in the end. That is a very good question, and that's why I think we were talking to somebody and gosh, I'm spacing surprisingly, I forgot, uh, But we were talking to somebody who said, if you're going to tip somebody in that instance, tip and cash, because then you know that they're going to get it same thing with you. And I don't do this at restaurants enough, but better to tip and cash, give them the money. If you
get great service, tip and cash. Although I don't really carry cash much anymore. Yeah, well, I think that's the bigger issues. Most of us don't but even if you go back to that, a lot of times the service if we're going back to the service issue, when you give them
on the bill, it comes out of their taxes as well. So if there's something you know, granted, we always want to support people paying taxes and everything that effect, but they're not get back fedal well under staying because that's my biggest thing is you're giving it to the person and they should be putting it into taxes at the end of the year as opposed to automatically being taken out and you know in the beginning, So I don't want to be
big brother and over people's shoulders saying not not no, you need to be giving you Uncle Sam, I your a certain percentage here as opposed to if we provide them with the cash, then they can do that at the end of the year when they file their own taxes. Yeah, and speaking of tipping it as the holidays and uh, the insidious tip is back for anybody
you had interaction with over the last year. And I'm I'm sort of split on this because there are some people that I think, yeah, like you should give somebody a little extra little something something like I have a wonderful woman who comes and cleans my house every once in a while, and she does a fabulous job, and so I'm going to give her a little boost, like, thank you for doing a fabuls less job for me all year round. But the list of people that you're supposed to tip is getting a little
extensive. So here here If you are have interaction with any of these people, be prepared. Delivery drivers, babysitters, nannies, repair people, housekeepers, okay, pool cleaners, trash collectors who I have never seen once in my life, landscapers, pet walkers, groomers, sitters, personal trainers. You're supposed to tip your personal trainer, really, hairstylists and beauticians and newspaper carriers? Are there even newspaper carriers? And like letter carrier? Do you
guys tip your letter carriers? No, I don't even know. We have so many leather carriers. I mean, now, not to be creepy or anything, but I mean I looked at my ring camera. I must have at least two dozen different mail carriers. So I don't even have a regular mail carrier to be able to do that with. Yeah, and I I used to know my male carrier. His name is Scott Lowell. I'm listening Scott like I stay in touch with him from twenty five years ago. But
I don't know my carriers anymore. I never see them, I have no relationship with them. So I just think that the tipping thing has gotten out of control and I'll probably get hate mail because last time we talked about tipping, we got a few responses. I am a firm believer in tipping and tipping well. But and then there's here's the other thing too. You're not supposed to give cash to everybody, Like you're not supposed to give co workers
cash. They're supposed to give them gifts if you're going to give them something. And then same thing with like long term care facility workers, teachers, principal, school staff. Although I wouldn't give my head, then does that mean like a gift card does that count as well or not? Well, they're saying that you shouldn't pay them directly, so I don't know if it
gifts card counts. But it's supposed to be a gift because I can give them a Visa gift card and that is a gift, but it's cash realistically at the end of the day. So yeah. And then there's certain people who can accept gifts public service to government workers, healthcare workers, lawyers, realtors and accountants and financial advisors. I always get a gift from my financial advisor and I'm you're not supposed to give them a gift back. Hmm,
interesting, right, very much so. And they do say if you don't have a lot of extra money and you can't afford to tip, and that's understandable. We're all, you know, there's a lot of people, including me, who are you know, it's it's a little tight right now. You can write them a nice card and say thank you, and that's acceptable too. I got crickets from everybody. Maybe not okay, so it's nice. I'm sorry, no no no, I think I no, no, no. Thank you letters are really nice and I was going to say no,
no, no. This is really quick to wrap that up. It's specific for me. I've always been told that that's one of those things. And we don't send cards. And if you ever think about Christmas cards, and not to go a little off a topic, but everybody gets those pre made gift cards. If you're going to do something heartfelt and thoughtful to write the little note by hand. I mean that you and I itself, as silly as it sounds, is so unusual in twenty twenty three. That is
not something that is done any longer. And really, you know, some people will not appreciate it, but more often than not, folks appreciate it because they're like, oh, somebody actually took the time to sit here and write me a heartfelt, thoughtful message. And it wasn't just printed out by you know, like cardstock dot com or something like that. Yep, I think that's a really good that's good advice. Nick Poliochini, thank you so
much. Good teamwork there, Amy, kay. I know, let's get some back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. The La City Controller's offices, the LAPD has not justified the need
for its helicopter program. Chief of Accountability and Oversight Sergio Perez, says the police department has not collected data on whether helicopter's lower crime despite decades of helicopter operations, Despite sophisticated operations in staff and resources, an audit by the Controller's office found thirty nine percent of the helicopter's flight time is spent on high priority
crime. Thirty four percent was used for patrols in general flights. The LAPD currently spends more than forty five million dollars a year on its seventeen helicopters. got away with about five hundred dollars. Cooper and Cohen are still campaigning for a boozy evening just getting word into the CAFI newsroom that Harvard's president, Claudine Gay will remain president of the Ivy League school following the comments she made at a congressional hearing on anti Semitism that have been strongly criticized. The president of the University of Pennsylvania resigned over the weekend because of the
comments she made at those hearings. Israel says its forces are surround the last Hamas strongholds in the northern Gaza Strip as the war continues. The Gaza Health Ministry says more than eighteen thousand Palestinians have been killed since the war began.
October seventh, a more than five month long strike appears to be over for employees at four hotels in Sokow. The Beverly Coasta Mesa and Anaheim Hilton's, and also the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills have all reached tentative labor agreements with their union. Five other hotels have already made deals. The strike continues at fifty one other hotels. Governor not Governor. President Biden is going to be welcoming President Zelenski to the White House. We'll be talking about that on handle
on the news in just a couple of minutes. But right now, let's say good morning to ABC's Jim Ryan. Jim, tis the season for presidents and packages and dreaded porch pirates. Yes, naturally, during the pandemic, we were ordering things online all year long and collecting them off far front porches, so too were port pirates. That's when they really met their heyday.
But yeah, it's continued though. People have gone back to work in the office and they're still ordering things online, so those packages are sitting there on their front porches for longer periods. You know, hours at a time sometimes, and we're finding that indeed, porch piracy is a major problem, about six billion dollars in losses all together. If you add up all the stuff that's stolen, seventy one percent of the packages were valued at one hundred bucks
or less. But if you pick fifty bucks, that's the average loss. That's where you come up with a six billion dollar aggregate. There, seventy five percent of us amy have had something stolen from the front porch. Forty percent of those it's happened more than once. Yeah, that's you know what. And the companies have gotten really good about letting you know, like immediately
when it's delivered. Some of them take pictures, which is good, but I know that when it gets delivered earlier in the day, and like you said, I'm at work, I just sit there and go, oh my gosh, I hope it's still there. I hope it's still there. I hope somebody doesn't grab it because you know it's sitting there for hours on end. Well. Sure, and you have to sign up for those kinds of alerts too. You know, if you order something and you say as part
of the order process, the shipping process. It says, do you want to track this package or do you want to know when it's delivered. Great, that's one way to kind of protect yourself ensuring or requiring that a signature, and this is not practical for a lot of people if everybody works in the house is empty. But requiring a signature in a place where you can
when something is delivered to you. But really working with your neighbors in your neighborhood, making sure that people are watching out for each other, that it can build the community there. First of all within the neighborhood, but also let's porch pirates or other thieves burglars know that this neighborhood is on alert. There are cameras around potentially, but there are people around and they've got their eyes open. So where are some of the worst places for porch pirates?
A company called safe Wise, which is sort of a national consumer group that analyzes looks at the home security systems, has put together this list based on surveys them, police reports and whatnot. Seattle, for whatever reason, has it the worst. For some reason, you know, seventy eight percent of the people now in Seattle and around Seattle, Tacoma Bellevue are using some kind of deterrent. Most of them it's a camera. Memphis, Tennessee comes in
second place this year. Last year it wasn't even on the list, and then third place San Diego tu La Vista. Really, yes, that's well, maybe it's a nicer area, so that's why they go there. There seems to be no in of course, in a quote nicer area, you would assume that more people have security cameras and doorbell cameras and whatnot, but it doesn't seem to matter much. If you watch surveillance video that's always posted online, it seems that some of the thieves couldn't care less if their places
are seen. They just kind of stroll up, grab a package, and stroll off and drive away. It's a low risk crime, and that's part of what contributes to the popularity. If you will, okay, Jim, if you get your package stolen, are you just out of luck? Will the company send you a new one that you ordered from or what happens a lot of cases that is the case. You know, the companies will reimburse you, and then of course we're all kind of paying the price for that.
Eight and ten people say they did add some deterrent. Twenty one percent of the report of the theft law enforcement and some percentage of the mad An insurance claim that about six percent of people say that they managed to recover the package from the thief. Oh really, yeah, Okay. I just hope that if somebody does come and steal something from my porch, it's going to be one of the orders, like when I had like cat treats or feminine
products or feminine products for your cat. All right, Jim Ryan, thank you so much. Have a great day. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour news from President Biden is hosting the President of Ukraine at the White House today. ABC's Dave Packer says the visit comes as the Biden administration is pressing Congress to approve billions in new aid for Ukraine. OH Speaker Mike Johnson says he'll explain why Republicans are holding
up support for Ukraine's fight against Russia. While Johnson says he does not want to see Vladimir Putin prevail in Ukraine, he says, quote, we have to take care of our border. First, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says, when it comes to keeping America safe, border security is ground zero. A man in Minnesota convicted of murder in two thousand and four has been released from prison. Marvin Hayes is now thirty five. He left a courthouse yesterday
surrounded by his family once his conviction was vacated. I mean, it took nineteen years, but I'm here and all I want to do is move forward and just get my life back. Let's see. The County Attorney's office agreed with Hayes's legal team that the uncertain eyewitness used as evidence wasn't enough to connect Hayes to the killing. Hayes thank the Innocence Project for picking up his case
and his sister for advocating for him. You see. San Diego Health has purchased the Alvarado Hospital Medical Center from Prime Healthcare for two hundred million dollars, adding the three hundred two bed facility to its network of clinics and hospitals. UCSD Health says it's a new chapter to expand access to needed medical and surgical care in eastern San Diego. It says the center offers a new emergency department
remodeled I See You and expanded behavior health services. Yesterday about this time, the Golden Globes were announced, and as we mentioned to you, Barbie picked up nine nominations. Oppenheimer picked up eight, so it was a big Barbenheimer day. But they don't have a host for the Golden Globes. The awards ceremony is going to be held on January seventh, but no one wants to
do it. Apparently Chris Rock declined an offer. He last attended a major show in twenty twenty two when he obviously was slack, remember the slap herd around the World, But he said no. And then others who have said no are the star of the Netflix series Beef, Ali Wong was approached, and then will Arnette, Sean Hayes, and Jason Bateman were also approached.
They're the co hosts of that podcast SmartLess. They all three said no, Amy Paul or Tina Fey They're probably not going to and other a list celebrities apparently have also said no thanks to the Golden Globe. So right now they are hostless. We'll see what happens. And one more thing, speaking of Barbie White, Christmas is out pink Christmas is in because of the Barbie fad. There is a ton of pink pink trees, like they're being sold at
Target, Walmart, Wayfair Home Goods. They all have blush and masterful pink trees and apparently it's a big thing. And then there's like celebrities and social media influencers and they're all about the pink. So if you're wanting to do something a little bit different, maybe Barbie pink is the way to go, except that it won't be Barbie pink because I think that's copyrighted or something. But you're probably gonna see much more pink, So they're calling it Mary Pink.
