Transcript

Hey, it's Jennifer Jones Lee. You're listening to kf I am six forty wake Up Call on demand on the iHeartRadio app. Well, hello everybody. I kind of don't even know how to begin this, to be perfectly Honestum, first off, if you are on Instagram this morning, we are ooh there we go. Oh it's gonna have to go over here. Okay, it's gonna be the best day of my life. And yet I think it's

gonna be a freaking mess. Something's messed up with the board. You know what, I almost need something to be messed up with the board because it'll keep me from crying again. It's k if I. This is your wake up call. I'm Jennifer Jones Lee, and yes it's my final wake up call. It's my final on air broadcast after thirty years. Guys, this is creeping me out. I just randomly cry, and I was full in it together. I actually tucked away in the entire drive in so all like

fifty minutes this morning. And then I get here to the studio and I'm walking down the hall and I can see these two things of cupcakes right, and I'm like, oh my gosh, and Michelle had like taken pictures of me and put them on things saying, you know, congratulations, we miss you, blah blah blah. And then I turn and walk into the studio.

The studio is decorated with banners that say cheers and these little silver curly cues all over the place that's super feminine, with like pink and peach balloons. There are flowers everywhere in the studio for me. All right. If you just hear random tears, it's me or random bits of silence, that's what it is. I say thank you to each and every one of you who have let me into your homes for the last seven years. And I

don't know what we're I don't know what. Yeah, it's just weird, but I thank you guys for all of your well wishes on social media and all I've had someone write me a song, somebody wrote me a poem. I think it's taken me thirty years to understand literally what my position means and how we've all become friends and the way that you guys think of me is I don't know how to say thank you. And I'm more humbled than I

think I've ever been in my life. I'm gonna shut up for a minute and talk about some news, because, after all, I want my last broadcast to be, you know, somewhat informative, right. The governor set aside two hundred and eighty eight million dollars for drought and flood projects in the state. The lap D says it's these thirty eight thousand pounds of illegal firework stocked in a warehouse in South La and La Pride is ready to take over

the city this weekend. We've got events that start today, so let's start with some of these stories coming out of the KOI twenty four hour newsroom. Governor Newsom has set aside two hundred and eighty eight million. This is for flood projects and drought throughout the state. The governor says forty nine and a half million of that will go to conservation and supply projects in the Southland.

Newsom announced yesterday has planned to support drought resilience and prepare for future dry conditions. The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, which serves twenty six public water agencies throughout six counties, will distribute the money. Ela County Waterworks will receive fifteen million to reinforce the Santa Anita Dam and remove sediment, and also upgrade

the Dominga's Gap seawater intrusion barrier. Steve Gregory Kofinance. Truckers in LA have protested a bill saying it will put thousands of independent contractors out of work. The bill took effect in January of twenty twenty, with the intention of cracking down on workers being classified as independent contractors as opposed to employees. The California

Trucking Associations Eric Sauer says, want to remain owner operators. They get to choose the kind of loads that they want to haul, the motor carriers that they want to transport freight for and it's worked out for them and their families. The city yesterday said its hands are tied because of state laws and we'll have to end its contract with the truckers at the end of the month. Chris Adler KFI News. The LAPD says it sees thirty eight thousand pounds of

illegal fireworks stopped in a warehouse in South La. LA City Fire Department Captain Eric Scott says with the fourth of July approaching, he wants the public to remember how terrifying. Illegal fireworks can be our neighbors are often annoyed. The combat veterans feel like they're back in a war zone, and the pets they don't understand what's going on. What's happening. Oh my gosh, it's so true. Cases of fireworks were found earlier this year by fire inspectors during a

routine building screening. The LAPD says two men connected to the stash have been arrested and the investigation is ongoing. All right, Rick Klein, good warning to you. So look at this. You're my last political hit of my career, and I'm glad it's with you. You are the man. Oh that's nice for you to say. Gratulations and welcome to a connect. Oh my gosh, thank you very much. Yeah. I don't know why I thought it was going to be a bright idea. Oop I did I do

it again? Almost to leave here and then go into management. Tell me I'm not dumb. So let's you know, whatever whatever works, go go, go be successful. I like that. All right. Well thanks, Well it's with my family, so you know, I'm just blessed to get a job in radio still and get to go see them. So former President Trump says, you know, he's been telling us for a couple of weeks that he's going to be indicted, and then now we learned that he has

been. What does this mean though, for how or if he can run, Well, it doesn't actually mean anything for his ability to run, believe it or not. There's nothing you law, the constitution says you can't run

even while under indictment. I think, practically speaking, though, he's going to have court dates in Florida as well as New York, maybe in Georgia too, that he's gonna have to keep a massive distraction and a bunch of candidates who at least subtly are going to be making a case against him, pointing out that maybe it's not a great idea for the Republican Party to ominate someone who might be going into prison when he will. Okay, two things

on this. If people think he's going to prison, I bet there is a camp of Trump's supporters who are like this just furthers our belief that this has been a witch hunt all along, and might even support him more because of it. Oh, totally agree. I mean, you know, I think that that's almost almost inevitable. We've already seen people ralligating the defense like that, Now, is that enough to win a Republican nomination? Is enough

to win your presidency? Those are other questions. I think there's a there's a group of sup orders that definitely are taking exactly that tack, But I don't know that it's going to be a sufficient mass to empower him to the nomination by itself. There's going to be a lot of people saying, wait a second, maybe he did some of these things, or maybe his nomination would just be too much of a distraction at this time, maybe we shouldn't

be going down this route. But I think to your point, there's no question in my mind that there's going to be people saying exactly that that this shows you why we need them, not why we shouldn't have them. And when it comes to those who look at this as a negative, how do his opponents spin this? Well, some of them are saying basically, this is a which hunt or this is politicization of the Justice Department. Asa Hutchinson's

the only candidate so far for saying he's got an outright drop out. Only major candidate others like Chris Christie, Mike Penn's holding their fire a little bit. Christie's been saying, Look, I'm a forrmal prosecutor and if these are legit charges, they should be brought against anybody. But it's going to be tough for them. I mean the normal times, you think they'd be making lots of hay out of this, but for the zillions time, these are

not normal times. All right, Thank you so much, Rick, and I won't talk to you again, but best of luck and the rest of your career too. Same to you, all right, Thanks you too, see you later. That is ABC's Rick Klein. All right. So people have been telling me that the connection was poor on Instagram Live and I know I'm getting some like weird blinking. I don't know, Tyler, and maybe

one of you can come in and fix this. We'll see. So this is my last wake up call if you had missed the opening of the show. But we still have more names for you. Over the objections of prosecutors, two men involved in illegal street racing and Irvine have been granted requests to go through a court ordered misdemeanor diversion program that could allow them to have their charges dismissed. Prosecutors saved the twenty three year old from Laverne had a YouTube

channel that featured illegal street races. In oc, a thirty eight year old from Irvine was charged with actually racing. A teacher in Placentia has been placed on leave because of a leaked video of a class discussion about prostate sex vibrators and finding pleasure spots. Sex is still le because that's enough. The Eldorado High School teacher also talked about where to find certain sex spots and which storre sell sex objects. Many parents didn't like that to satisfy needs that they had

no idea of learning from an educator. Teachers have an obligation to draw the line at questions in which students ask, but many parents this week also supported the teacher. She was answering the question in as good a faith as you can to keep them from having to google its. Let's enter your Belinda school districts as teachers must keep classroom discussions appropriate. In Placentia. Corbin Carson k if I News, I'd like to go back to the target comment that she

made. Is anybody target sells that? Now? I mean, maybe I'm usually in the clothing department or something, but very weird, very very weird, had no idea. At least fourteen people have been killed and thousands of people are believed to be trapped by floodwaters in Ukraine after that catastrophic dam collapse, residents say relief efforts have been slow. Officials say more than six thousand people have left dozens of cities, towns, and villages on both sides of

the river. Tens of thousands are without drinking water, and two giant inflatable ducks have landed in Hong Kong's been Victoria Harbor. This is all for the return of a pop art project that was halted during the pandemic. It's two eighteen meter tall yellow ducks that were created to resemble, right, like the bath ducks that you know for kids, the rubber duckies. Yeah, rubber duckies, and that was the Undies, right. The artist says he hopes

his art will bring joy to the city. Local residents say that they are happy the ducks are coming back following a long winter. My last wake up call we're gonna talk about I want it to be about me. I want it to be about this show because this show has been my baby and I'm very proud of it, and I kind of wish I could take it with me because I don't want to turn the baby over to somebody. But what am I gonna do? It would just go put it wet in mothballs.

No, So it's gonna be fine. And whoever takes it over, I've heard the list of people that are being considered, and I'm like, who cares. They're all amazing. So you guys will like who comes in after me? I promise. Some of the stories we're watching in the KFI twenty four hour newsroom, Former President Trump has said he's innocent in the wake of

saying he's received an indictment from the Justice Department. An exposition in Orange County is expected to be sentenced for scheming to illegally prescribe more than one hundred twenty thousand opioid peel pills to nearly twenty people over the past six years, and La Pride is all ready to take over the city this weekend. The events actually start today, so there's a Pride in the Park festival. It'll feature exhibits, food, concerts, all headlined by Making the Stallion and Mariah Carey,

who headlines the concert tomorrow. It's gonna be a lot of fun. Dean Sharp, our house whisper is coming up. We're gonna talk. I think we're talking this morning about in home theaters, so we'll get into that in a second. But Michelle, all right, hello, hello, So you have been literally my partner in crime since the beginning, from the start, run the start. When we went to the Bruno Mars concert and Michelle

was in there, I told this off on Instagram Live. We are Instagram Live this morning, by the way, and I was telling everybody how Michelle, when I first got here, took me to a Bruno Mars concert where there were just a few hundred of us and we got to like pack this ballroom at San Manuel Surf and Turf dinner. It was freaking amazing. And then just like you felt one on one with Brute. It was so good. It was awesome. So you from the start have been the producer of

Wake Up Call. I have been here from the start. And tell me what your favorite parts over the last seven years? Had I have two? I have two favorite parts. Okay, one the first day you did Wake Up Call solo because it was kind of a giant mess before that I have always appreciated the positivity that you've been able to start the day with. I think that's such an important thing. And the brightness of your voice in the

morning as soon as we hear it. I mean, it's just it's unlike anything I've ever worked with before, because I'm used to working with pretty negative people. See who did you work with? So that was first and foremost is the thing that I'm gonna miss the most. I Mean, I know people knew people will bring new things into wake Up Call, but that's the one thing. It was day one when you did Wake Up Call alone, I kind of knew what was going to be a different era and I was

so proud of that. And the biggest thing that I'm proud of, you know, of the show and you is the spotlight you've been able to put on animal issues, which I think is such a huge thing and a lot of our hosts don't like to cover that stuff because it's sometimes really hard to talk about. And the work that we have done, and especially you have done for the Wiggle Waggle Walk, which I think has just become some huge thing for us, and I'm gonna miss that, and I'm hoping to keep

it in as in a different way. Yeah. Um, And of course have you come down and be like our star. I would love it, Michelle. I could have done that without you. Oh, thank you and I are a team on that from the beginning. Honestly, your positivity and your voice in the morning. I'm gonna miss it the most. I'm gonna miss you the MOUs I know I'm gonna cry, my girlfriend, I know me too, all right, I'm not crying. It's not about me, It's about the show. Yes, Now, I got to go back to

work. I love you back. I love you too, all right. Bye, Tyler. So you've been on the show for two years, almost a full two years. Yep. When you and I started working together, where you like, what in the hell is this show? Or who is this? Check? Look, I'd be lying if I said that wasn't my instant reaction, but not a feeling. It didn't take me very long to warm up to it, though. I think the hardest part still remains that, you know, I gotta wake up at the time I gotta wake up

at to be here. But it's been great. It's been great with you. Great. What you guys might not know is Tyler might have the most wicked sense of humor of anybody I have ever met. And I've told everybody in my family, my friend's up north where I'm heading to Redding, that Tyler is my work husband. And because I think we fight like a married couple, and yet when we like get at each other, then we also know how to like recover from it. And it's snarky and usually it's an

f you know, fu, and then we love each other again. Yeah, we typically only have about two to three minutes to fight, and then we gotta you know, lock it back in and pretend like we like each other exactly. So I love you, Thank you for everything, Thank you for everything. You know, when I first started here, I had no experience in this line of work, so I don't want to spoil too much of what I put in your card, but a lot of who I am is thanks to you. Oh my gosh, all right, you stop now,

Okay, I'm stopping you stop. Yeah, husband's don't get that much time. And so everybody watching Instagram Live, I am taking the camera and sort of pushing it all around my zoom screen so you can see everybody. And I am so sorry that you and I are not going to get more of a chance to work together. Side about this because I just got here right, I'm about my fourth month in and I remember the first time I met you. I thought we were sitting in a conference room and I'm like,

this girl's cool. I like her. And as the days went on and we're here at you know, four in the morning. Are you come bopping in every morning with your cute little outfits on, with all your energy, And we just started talking about a lot of things, a personal stuff, and I'm like, I want to hang out with this girl, like we're kind of cut from the same cloth. Yeah, and we're going to have a really awesome friendship. Yes we are. And now you're leaving me

though, now I'm leaving you. But now I'm also heading to reading and I have plenty of room. I have a whole like guest room bathroom area with Anne's name written on it. Oh my god, I'm totally coming and I'm bringing the horse. My name was written on it. Can you guys share the room? No? I thought that room was for me. Wait being sharp? Good morning, What an awesome surprise. Thank you for checking in early. How could I not have been listening from the very first second.

You know, when you and I first started, we were very close in space, because how long have you been here? Just? Yeah, almost seven years. That's the same amount of time, man. Yeah, we were just a few months apart. And what I loved about working with you was that, seriously, I had no idea how much fun you could make. Literally, like, let's talk about a wall today, and I'd be like, all right, I don't know what we're going to talk about. You have You have inspired me in a lot of ways to things that

I thought might not be like the most fun topic or whatever. Oh my gosh, you make it fun, you make it informative, and I just deans as a person. You and Tina were two of the brightest spots at this station and still are. Oh well, can I tell you this? Can I take a second to tell you this? Yeah. There are people who I think try to dazzle us in this industry, and there are people who intimidate us in the world. There are people who project themselves like they're

on a whole different level. And you would think that those people are like the most important people. But I think the most important people in places of attention and influence are warm, real relatable people who make us feel like we're home, and you are those kind of people. That's the kindest thing you could say. Seriously, thank you so much for saying that. Well, it's been it's such a pleasure to just, you know, start the day

with you every Friday morning. Eddy, I remember too. I'm Tiary by the way, and yes, that was a big old sigh of like, suck it in, kid, pull it together. I remember you would listen early in the mornings and you would text me or instagram me like, hey, I'm listening, and I just remember being like, I don't know if anybody else is listening out there, but Dean is. So I'm talking to you Dean when I do the show this morning. And Tina would text me

like, you know, good luck and whatever. I adore you to Dean and I are going to talk in home theaters in just a second, and so we'll get into that. But you're leaving though on a topic that oh I love. I love watching TV at home. There you go, so

you can set up my new place. How's that sounds great? And Aaron and Nate, I have you both in here, and Aaron and Nate are newer, and I haven't been able to work with both of you much, but Michelle was talking about positivity a few minutes ago, and the smiles on both of your faces are the things that I've loved the best about the two of you. Ah, that's so nice. And Aaron, you are a kick ass writer. Oh thank you. And seriously, it's hard in the

news business when an anchor has to trust. So Aaron writes it, I read it, and there's there's a trust factor that has to happen there. And Aaron you like you got my trust from day one. Oh thank you. That means so much. I love writing for you. Well, it's been great. And Nate, I'm only sorry that I'm leaving before I get a chance to work with you as a producer of wake Up Call. Yeah

that's a okay. I've gotten to get to know you around the new station, and I just want to say you're incredibly warm and kind, and I'm sure the listeners that have listened to you for a long time they have the impression that you're a very nice and sweet and warm person. But let me just tell you, guys, she's even nicer off air in person. If you can believe that. Yes, agreed, you guys are amazing. What can I share? Can I share a memory? Yeah? Please? We

don't get to work with each other a lot. A lot of the time. I'm writing new Like I'm writing stuff at night that I'm hoping you read in the morning. And so I love and hate that the week I get to do this shift with you is your last home. You know what I mean too. But I'm glad you're here. And Aaron and I are going to take a picture because she wore her over alls this morning in my honor I did for you. I love it. I love it. I love your energy, and I love it You're you're like, why do people hate

on overall? Leave all alone? Right? The best? It's the thing that, yes, we have that in common, you guys all. I I adore you. We're gonna keep Instagram live the rest of the morning and for people, I literally am seeing people on Instagram like, wait, where are you going? I am moving to reading on Saturday next week. That's where my family is. And I've told you before that my dad got sick

about a year ago and he's doing okay now. But somebody asked me because they saw that I have a new boyfriend online and they said, are you you must be moving home for that guy, and I said, it's true. I am moving home for a man. But his name is Bob Jones. And me and dad have a and my mom of course, but you know, I'm Daddy's girl, and I just got to spend as much time with my dad as I can. And I got a job in radio up

there, so I'm going home thirty years after I left. I get to go back to the place where I started, and I just feel incredibly blessed and I'm gonna cry. So we're gonna go to break and then Dean Sharpe's coming up in just a second to talk home theaters. Nick Paliachini, let's get to you. And also, I want to thank you for being the I think by positive partner in crime on the air. I love that everybody's keeping it together because I'm a flipping mess over here to be totally honest with

you, and I'm very impressed. I mean, this shows the pre eminent professional that you are. Jen. But no, I mean it's been a rough week for us. We I mean we lost somebody in the traffic center,

lost trap Ba this week, which he won't be coming back. But I'm so glad that you're moving on to this new adventure in northern California and going to be back with your dad and going to be doing management, which God knows they are going to have the best manager out of you, because no, no, no, because you know what it's like to be in the trenches, and you know what it's like to be there, so as

being an option manager, you're gonna really shine there. I think it's going to be a huge thing because you've already been there where a lot of the folks have been. So I give you the biggest prompts to that. You know, this has been a genuine, true pleasure. I appreciate every moment that I get to spend with you. As Michelle said, you've got the right sound that gets us going in the morning. Your brightness really wakes us up, and you know, I look forward to coming up, like I

already said, for the reading rodeo and private in reading. Absolutely. But yeah, so anyway, thank you for everything that you've done and contributed to the show. You really have helped to make the mornings and ever so much more bright here on a Cafi. All right, well, I'm not as far as listening to you guys. Go. I'm a nine to five or now, so I can still get up and like like a normal person, put my earbuds in, listen to the radio, go for a run with

the dog. So you guys keep it all of you. I'm going to keep in my ears the whole time. So just no, I love you, and we'll all be together again soon, even if it just means it's when you're coming up to visit. Today is the last date. Jennifer Jones Lee will great the KFI airwaves with their sparkling personality. JJL has been the anchor in more ways than one of KFI mornings for forty nine dog years or seven human years, whatever it seems like, more but still not enough.

We're sorry to see you go. Chin On behalf of all of us at KFI, behind the scenes and on the air, production and support staff, management, and especially all the listeners. You woke up way too early every day morning. You will be missed. Thank you from all of us at KFI, and pull away there and cry for a second. Dean Sharp, good morning to you. Dean's On on Saturdays and Sundays six to eight on

Saturdays, and nine to noon on Sundays. Love Love, Love Me some you and I don't want to take away from the information that you have on home theaters. Handel has this like fancy freaking home theater at his house. My home theater is my couch in a big screen TV and a soundbar. Yeah, yeah, you know what. We can talk home theaters anytime. Let's talk about what's really important. What got you girl? You it is crazy? I uh so, just the backstory here. This all started,

like I said about it was Christmas of twenty twenty one. Yeah, so it was two days after Christmas. Scott and I were in Florida and I got a call from my brother who was bawling, and he said, Dad's defibrillator. So we have a genetic heart condition in our family. Dad's defibrillator went off twenty seven times, so to be honest, he should not have survived that. And thanks to light a cane, which is what they ended up injecting in him, then his heart like went back into rhythm and it

stopped shocking him, which was amazing. But it was that moment where I remember thinking to myself, like what am I doing? I you know, I said it before. I mean, yes, I love my mom, but I admit I'm a daddy's girl, you know, take me fishing and all kinds of stuff. And so when that when that happened in December, my grandmother passed away in April, Scott and I decided to divorce in May, and all of a sudden, it's like, holy hell, what am

I doing with my life? And I remember after Christmas this year we celebrated Dad's I like to think that it's like Dad's first birthday, right where he came back from the brink of death and everything is good. And they left, they left, and I was like, you know what, I gotta go home. And I started kind of putting it into the universe. And I feel so blessed that I got a gig. My uncle had a house

available for me to rent. I've I've now told you guys, I have a boyfriend who actually somebody just asked me who he is, and Dean he is my old college boyfriend. That's what I heard. Yeah, he's amazing and I can't wait for you to meet him. He's so we worked at Coleman Fish Hatchery for twenty seven years, which was his Joel dream. I mean, he really like he's a fish farmer. It's so cool. I never even like thought of it that way. But you know, just like

we talked about crops of wine or whatever, that's what Jason does. So his name is Jason Folks. We had a like lecture hall class together. He sent his friend John over to like introduce himself to me and was like, hey, why you meet my buddy. And so we were together probably eight months or so there, and then recently reconnected on Facebook, found out we were both single. Dipped our too in that water and look at that. So now I have a job, I go home to my family,

a house, and a boyfriend. You know, it's just it's one of those counterintuitive things in one sense, you know, career wise, when you think about, come on, you're in LA you made it to the show. Yes, But the fact of the matter is, it's just it's so you. It's so brilliant. It's so wonderful to know somebody who can look at their lives and say, hey, you know what, these are the

priorities, These are the things that are most important to me. And I have no doubt I have no doubt that there's just nothing but goodness and success as the day's roll. For the only reason I'm holding it together, Jen is because I know that this is not the last that you and I are hanging out. Okay, no chance. So so, because I love northern California, You've already invited us up. We are totally coming up there. We spent a lot of time up there. I've got two of my dearest

friends on the planet live in Chico. We're up in Chico all the time. Perfect. I fish Shasta every chance I get, and so so we're there, We're so there. And so I'm just gonna keep telling myself, yeah, donut, no, no, no, right, see, now you're going to fish Shasta with like mister fishing. I want a complete tour the hatchery. Oh my god, the hatchery is amazing, and I literally he has loved it. He was volunteering. I think even when we were

in college together. He took so much pride in that. So he retired from the hatchery only to go to Shasta dam So I talked to him last night. I'm like, what were you doing? He goes pressure washing the damn who gets to do that? You know, like Shasta. Is it like a ninety nine percent capacity? Yes, yeah, it is full to the bull room. Yeah. My cousins have houseboats, so we can grab that anytime. You're coming, Dean, You and Tina, I need your

itinerary asap. Yeah. No, it's happening. It's happening, so that's that's that's fine. Everybody else has a tiery goodbye. I'm just gonna say see you soon and we're good to go. All right, sounds good. Dean is going to talk home theaters, I promise this weekend, Saturday and Sunday. Yep, all weekend long we had home theaters, a little Pope Perrie, a little Father's Day gift advice, you know it's and a few

extra calls this weekend. So it's a mishmash of things, but right at the tip of the spear, some updates on what's going on with home theaters in twenty twenty three. All right, sounds great. I love you, I love Tina and will see you soon. I love you, buddy. All right, see you later. That's Cafi's house, whispered Dean Sharp.

Follow him on social media at Dean Sharp No at Home with Dean. This is why I should be pulled off the air because I can't even do this cracking me up this morning singer, song about the hard lend the Only place I Fell, sing about the way Man to do the Last King, Jorge s No wrong from right, singing a song about the hard Land, singing a song about nine live and heck, yeah, I want to get back into singing. That's where I started. I was a wedding singer, you

guys. I'd get paid fifty bucks the song. And actually, Julie, if you're listening, um, so, Julie Adams is a friend of mine from high school and she had a friend Ricky, and Ricky also my friend asked me if I could sing at her wedding, and I was like yeah. Then she asked me if I could sing the Lord's Prayer and Havnagila asked me to sing. Tyler even laughed it out to it. Oh did you do it? There was there was the yeah, yeah, okay. Was

anybody recording? Oh not back in the day, find it. I mean that's what thirties some years they had what were they high eights probably like probably somebody had like the campcorder on their shoulder. You know, all right, that's your homework, all right, you have, you know the rest of your life to find it. Steve Clayton of the Upland Lemon Festival, I have to tell you, Steve when so this is my last day on the

air if you obviously haven't figured that out by now. Um, but my favorite festival since I've lived here in southern California for the last seven years was the Upland Lemon Festival. And I want to go out highlighting one of the things that I think is a hidden gem of the Inland Empire. Is this festival. Well, thank you for having me, and congratulations on your continued career as a wedding singer. Oh, thank you. I can't wait to get back into it. You know, anybody, I'll fly, I don't

care whatever, But tell me about the festival. What's going on this weekend, And for anybody who goes, don't think it's cliche. Get the freaking lemonade. I don't know what you guys do to it, but it's the best lemonade I've ever had. Well, it is fantastic. Yes, this is a festival that's been going on since nineteen ninety seven. We have taken

notes and expanded the carnival. Last year lines were so long for some people, so we've added about thirty percent more space for the carnival, all these different ride eighty foot drop tower, all sorts of things, some more entertainment, third stage, a country zone stage for you for your George straight than Hey there we go. Um yeah, so acts throwing, I mean, all sorts of different activities for a variety of different ages, you know,

young and olds. Can we talk about lemon Idol. What is lemon Idol? Well, lemon Idol is really supposed to be a community based competen singing competition, so um, you know, it gets uh solo acts and and uh you know, musicians and things like that from the community and has a multi week competition and it has a finale m over the weekend. So we'll we'll crown the lemon Idol winner over this weekend. Okay, So the event

starts tonight and then runs through Sunday. It starts today actually three o'clock today, runs three to eleven today, and then eleven am to eleven pm Saturday and Sunday. So we're looking or to bringing all the crowds out there, um and uh, celebrating with with all these families. It's it's the start of summers. School is out, yes when okay, what can you it's just me and you pretend like nobody else is listening. Do you guys do

something special to that lemonade? Because normally I'm like, I'm going to be super calorie conscience and I will just get a small I don't want to have that big large. Oh heck, I had two big larges last year. Well, it's funny you say that the lemonade is is uh, I mean it's it's really taste. It's it's sugar lemons probably probably sugar and lemons. I mean that's there's not really much. There's not much too lemonade. I mean good quality ice always helps. Honestly funny enough, but uh, and

and good quality lemons. But it's it's really it's really sugar as well. Okay, who started when you're in nineteen ninety seven? Do you know who was like, I know what we should do have a lemon festival. I honestly don't know that history. Maybe I should I apologize on that, but it's not like I know exactly the history of this place either, so don't worry. Yeah, but okay, what is the one thing, Steve, that you look forward to most about the Upland Lemon Festival every year. I

like seeing the crowds. I like seeing the happy families. I like seeing people having a great time. I liked seeing the businesses all participate and deck out there. You know, they're the front windows of their stores and lemon theme and have certain kind of lemon specials and things like that. And it's just get the whole community together, and you know, I think it supports the local downtown business and growth there and really just show cases what Upland has

to offer. And it's it's really cool to see, all right. If people want the information, if they're listening right now and they can't jot it down, where can they go later? Upland Lemon Festival dot com and it has all sorts of information on how to get there. I would like to say that Omni Ride has given a discount for Upland residents to get there, and Metrolink has given us fifty percent off all weekend for Metrolink riders to get

to Upland Lemon festivals. Oh, I love that. That's perfect so anybody, you have no excuse now, and the weather's going to be great this weekend, no excuse whatsoever. Yeah, it's it's going to be great weather. Last year was very hot, upper nineties and such, and this year's beautiful seventy five seventy degrees. You are awesome, Steve. I'm jealous. I'm jealous of your gig. You get to be the guy who gets to talk about the upland Lemon Festival. Have a wonderful time this weekend. In

between packing, I've already told myself I'm gonna sneak out. I'm gonna go there for a couple hours. I live in Fontana right now, so you're not that far. So I'll sneak over there. Maybe go to Chuck's Tacos on my way home. The puffy taco there is my favorite. And yeah, and I'll have my lemonade that I'll take with me to wash it down. That's perfect. Well, I look forward to seeing you there. Give me a holler I will, okay, Well, now be careful what you

wish for it. Well, and we'll have to take a photo. There's a vintage Volkswagen photo bus that's doing free photos for everyone all weekend long there, so that'll be cool. It'll be in the country zone state, so come on out, perfect country music. Thanks. I'm George Straight and we'll see you. All right. You're gonna get a four one five number. And if you're like, hey, that spam. No, I kept my four one five number from the Bay Area because I thought anybody who gets this

is going to be like, oh, I know who that is. So when you see this, no, it's me and I'll come find you. No, please do all right? Sound good, Steve, have a great one. Thanks for your time.
