You're listening to KFI AM six forty wake Up Call with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio app KFI and KOSTHD two Los Angeles, Orange County. It's time for your morning wake up call. Here's Amy King. It's five o'clock, straight up. Good Monday morning to you. This is your wake up call for April fifteenth. I'm Amy King, and you know what it is. If it's April fifteenth, it's texting. I know that in years past, I've been very stressed because I hadn't I was scrambling at the last

minute to get my taxes done. I actually got them done early this year, so that's that's a great, great feeling. But I totally get it if you are freaking out and stressing out because you're working on your taxes. Some restaurants are helping you cash in a little bit on tax Day. Will tell you about some of the freebies that they're offering up for tax Day. Also, remember I don't know about a month or two ago, we talked to the lady who wrote the Dream Dictionary, Teresa Cheng, super nice lady,

and she wrote this whole book about what your dreams mean. And I was like, I wish I could talk to her today because I had the weirdest dreams last night, and a lot of them were work related. Like we were driving in an suv. I was with Steve Gregory and there were water spout tornadoes coming at us and we had to bail out of the car

and dive behind some rocks. And then I left the studio while Handel was getting ready to do handle on the news, and I went over to the gym, which I never go to gym's and went to do a little bit of a workout and missed one of my breaks. I mean, it was like the weirdest, weirdest things you have, those dreams. I would love to make sense of them. I doubt those are in the dream dictionary, but maybe I'll look when I get home. Here's what's ahead on wake up

call. Busy day for you. A pilot and a dog have survived a crash landing into the ocean waters off Rancho Palace Alreadies. Officials say the pilot and the dog swamed ashore after landing late yesterday afternoon. Like Henning, Fire and the Coast Guard are working to recover the plane. Not clear why the pilot had to land in the water. World leaders are urging Israel not to retaliate after Iran launched an attack involving hundreds of drones, ballistic missiles and cruise

missiles. British Foreign Secretary David Cameron says the UK does not support a retaliatory strike, and French President Emmanuel Macrone said Paris will try to convince Israel that we must not respond by escalating. We're going to be talking with ABC's Jordana Miller in Israel in just a few minutes to get the latest from there.

That's in about fifteen minutes, and also Steve Portnoy is going to be driving joining us to let us know whether the attack is going to get Congress to finally approve some funding for Israel. Jury selection starts today in the hush money criminal trial of former President Trump in New York. It's the first ever criminal trial of a US commander in chief for a former one. It's also the first of Trump's four indictments that are going to trial. At six oh five,

It's handle on the news. LAPD has increased patrols around religious sites because of the drone strikes on Israel. Let's get started with some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Jury selection, as I just mentioned, is starting in New York in the hush money case against former President Trump. He's facing thirty four counts of falsifying business records for payments made to porn actress Stormy Daniels during the twenty sixteen presidential campaign. Trump has pleaded

not guilty. He says the stories are false and has called the case a sham designed to damage his current campaign. It's very unfair that I'm having a trial there. It's very unfair that we have this judge who hates Trump. Trump says the judge should have recused himself when reports came out that his daughter is an executive at a pr company that worked for President Biden. World leaders have urged restraint as Israel considers its response to a drone and missile attack by

Iran. Israel says nearly all of the weapons were shot down over the weekend, including eighty drones and six ballistic missiles taken out by US forces. ABC's Alison Kosik says Israel's war cabinet met yesterday without an apparent decision on what to do next, one member saying Israel would act in a manner and time that is appropriate for US. Prime Minister Netanyahu's war Cabinet is said to support retaliating

against Iran, but is divided over the timing. US officials have emphasized Israel's right to defend itself, but say the US will not participate in any counter strike. A person has been found dead on the sixty freeway in Almonte. The body was found late last night on the slow lane of the westbound side near Rosemead Boulevard. See hpiece trying to fee figure out how the person ended up on the freeway. Scotti Scheffler has a spare green jacket. Now the

world's number one golfer. Earned that ranking. He shot a final round four hundred per sixty eight to win his second Master's tournament by four strokes. Tiger Woods finished with his worst tournament score ever, sixteen over par. He finished in last place. It is five seven on your wake up call. Time to say good morning to ABC's Steven Portnoy. So, Steven, the House may finally take some action on getting funding to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan.

I will see, I mean, look the weekend barrage of missiles and drones launched in Israel's direction certainly amps up the pressure on the House to do what the Senate did a couple of months ago, which has passed a ninety five billion dollar package of support not just for Israel, but also, as you

mentioned, Taiwan and Ukraine. Now the question becomes, will Speaker Johnson put that measure on the floor of the House or will he do something else to abide by his late pledged to do something in support of Israel, or well House Republicans when they conference later today choosing a different path. The easiest way to get money to Israel now would be to pass that ninety five billion dollar

foign aid package that the Senate passed a couple of months ago. You know, that package was passed before Chuck Schumer took to the Senate floor and said it's time for net Yahoo to go and it. You know, if the House were to take up a different measure for Israel, that would have to go back to the Senate. There's the chance that some progressives in the Senate might balk given the state of the war in Gaza since the Senate acted last

So we'll see what happens. But I will say that over the weekend, while the barrage was still underway, the House Republican leadership pledged that the House this week would take up legislation that holds Iran accountable and supports Israel. Now, the House has released seventeen bills that target Iran, but so far a path for Israel support is not yet clear, okay, And so it's expected that they're just going to move forward with the bill that basically they've been sitting

on. Well, we'll see. I don't know that they will because the reason that they might not is, as you know, amy, the controversy overfunding Ukraine. And late last week before the Iran strike, Speaker Johnson visited mar A Lago and stood with former President Trump, who appeared to endorse the House Speaker and the job he's doing. But Trump was asked about funding for Ukraine and he said, well, maybe we ought to make it a loan

as opposed to a gift. And the provisions for additional sixty billion dollars support for Ukraine and the Senate bill it's not alone. So if Speaker Johnson's going to move in that direction, he's going to have to draft a new piece of legislation that if it passes the House or then have to go to the Senate, and it just there's the risk that it might go off the rails

again. I will just to reiterate an underscore. Since October seventh, the Congress has not passed in addition penny of support for Israel as far as I know, other than the regular whatever annual appropriations measures that have become law. There was an effort to get additional support for Israel. It was a fourteen billion dollar package that was requested by the Biden administration after October seventh, and

it has not been delivered. Congress has not lived up to that promise, and it's because there hasn't been agreement as there needs to be in both houses on the same pieces of legislation. Okay, so we're just going to have to wait and see if he goes forward with the original one comes up with a new one. But he did say he wants to get to work on it or have something this week. So hopefully he has said that and we'll

see what happens. But he's under a lot of pressure. Marjorie Taylor Green is moving to oust him and threatened to do so if he moves a Ukraine bill on the floor. So it's he's in a hot seat. Well we'll see if he can handle the heat. Thank you, Steven Portnoy. Have a great day you got. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. A man arrested of shooting from

the roof of a building, and Marina del Rey has been arrested. LA County Sheriff's deputies were called Saturday night about gun shots heard from inside an apartment complex. Deputies heard shots when they arrived and called for backup. They say a man was spotted on the roof firing off a rifle. He was arrested a few hours later. Officials are saying he fired off about one hundred rounds at least and live streamed the event on social media. LA has approved tens

of millions of dollars to settle a series of lawsuits. A man who suffered a serious head injury when part of a street lamp fell on him will be paid up to twenty one million dollars. Another man who was involved in a car crash with an on duty Los Angeles police officer will receive up to fifteen

and a quarter million dollars. A case involving an alleged defect in the crosswalk at Santa Monica and Westwood Boulevards will settle for one point nine million, and a woman who tripped while rollerblading in Venice will be paid more than one point three million dollars. The city council approved the settlements at its meeting on Friday. Michael Bunks KFI News. So she tripped and fell and sued the city and got one point three million dollars might have to go rollerblading in Venice.

O. J. Simpson is set to be cremated this week, and there are no plans to donate his brain for a CTE study. The executor of Simpson's estate responded to the idea, saying that's a hard no. The degenerative brain disease has been studied in former football players and is associated with behavioral and cognitive issues caused by repeated head injuries. It can only be diagnosed after death.

Simpson died from cancer last week. He was seventy six Police in Australia trying to find out why a man who went on a stabbing spree at a shopping mall in Sydney was targeting women. Only one of the six people over the weekend was a man. Twelve people survived. New South Wales State Police Commissioner Karen Webbs's detectives plan to question the attacker's family to try to find his motive. Police say they've ruled out terrorism and that the man had a history

of mental illness. He was killed by police. Also getting word out of Sydney, Australia this morning that police have arrested a man after he reportedly stabbed a bishop and churchgoers in Sydney. There were no serious injuries on that one. Fans will be seeing purple at the Olympics when athletes try to set records at this summer's Paris Games. In a move away from the traditional red brick clay color on the track, A new track is being installed for the twenty

twenty four Olympics in July, and it's purple. Work on the track is underway. Three world records and twelve Olympic marks were set on the red brick track in Tokyo. So health officials have been telling us that measles is rearing its ugly head again and we've got another one. Ella County health officials have issued an exposure warning. They say there was a traveler who had measles and guess where he or she went Universal Studios and the Santa Monica Pier and several

other locations. So this is basically some of the places where this person was that if you're not vaccinated, you could have been exposed. And the dates are between March thirtieth and April first, So apparently the person went to Universal Studios, looks like they stayed at the Sheridan Gateway Hotel and also went to the gym at the hotel, went to Denny's on Century Boulevard, a Buca Tobacco, Buca di Beppo, Klitus's Chicken Shack in Universal Studios, lard Lad

Donuts in Universal Studios, and Jenny's Splendid Ice Creams. This person was hungry Holy Cow, and then on Sunday went to Jack in the Box, Santa Monica Pier, El Tito, and the hotel, and then on Monday went to Denny's again and was at the hotel. And health officials are basically saying,

if you where at one of the exposure locations on those days. You need to make sure that you've been vaccinated against measles, and uh, it looks like symptoms develop if you're exposed to be measles and going to get it. Symptoms developed between one and three weeks after exposure. So that's right about now. So that person probably had a blast, right, sounds like they went everywhere. A section of Malibu Canyon Road is closed in both directions because

of a rock slide. Several large rocks blocked the lane in front of a tunnel between Payuma Road and pch The Oly County Sheriff's Department estimates the roads going to be shut down until at least this afternoon. G seven leaders have unanimously condemned what they called Iran's unprecedented attack against Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Natanyahu says Israel will respond to the attack by Iran at a time and a place of

its choosing. President Biden apparently told Natanyahu the US will not take part in any counter offensive against Iran. The future of the NBA are DOUBLENBA will find their new homes when the twenty twenty four draft gets underway tonight. Iowa star Caitlin Clark is expected to be the first overall pick. The Indiana Fever were awarded the top pick after winning the draft lottery in December. So Iowa's clerk may just be going right next door. At six oh five, it's Handle

on the news. Are Iowa and Indiana? Do they touch? I know they're close. At six oh five, it's Handled on the news. What prosecutors need to prove to get a conviction in the Trump hush money case. Right now, let's say good morning to ABC's Jordana Miller and Jornana. We've got a lot to talk about with the three hundred and fifty drones and missiles being launched at Israel. But right now I want to hear from you, as someone living in Jerusalem. What have the last couple of days been like?

Not so easy? I mean we're used to kind of running, hearing sirens, running to the safe. I think what made this and more of a nail bier was that we knew several hours before any sirens went off that there were dozens of cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones heading our way. You know, looking back on Saturday night, we didn't know the number was so high because the estimates had been that maybe around would fire somewhere between one

hundred and one hundred and fifty. You know, what came in or over the skies was almost triple that number, right, It was close to three hundred and fifty. And even though the Israeli Army really tried to keep the public calm, saying we have aerial defense systems, you know, you know, we have our allies, the United States here. You know, it has to be said that Israel's Arrow two and Arrow of three which ended up,

you know, they were the heroes of the aerial defense systems. They shot down almost all of the ballistic missiles, the cruise missiles, and some of the drones. The Israeli fighter pilots in the F thirty five and F sixteen did most of the work with the drones, but the AARO too and Erasrowaly never had never been tested in real time like that with so many targets and so many you know, it was a swarm. So I think there was a lot of there was a lot of tension if it would perform as

well, and it did. It did, and Israel and the United States and the allies shot down almost everything that came towards Israel. Several ballistic missiles hit around and on one Israeli base in the south, causing minor damage to one aircraft that was there, but that base remained operational. Its landings and

takeoff routes were not affected. And there were some rockets that fell in the Dead Sea, for example, there was a road in the north that was injured, that was damaged, but nobody was killed, and sadly, the only one person injured was a little seven year old Arab Israeli girl from the South who's still fighting for her life in a hospital here. Okay, and did the does it appear that Iran was targeting specific things because they fell that

you said that one fell near a base? Were they was there a specific target? Are they just Iran? No? Iran said that they were targeting military sites and not civilian places, not population center. They said they did that on purpose. Uh, you know that the you know, and we heard early intelligence from the Israelis that they they knew that these targets were on

their way to military sites. But it looks like some of the ballistic missiles, and Iran has old missiles, some of them never made it to their to their intended targets. Some blew up on the way. I don't know where the target. The Dead Sea, for example, is not. There's not a military base right there, so that one seems to have you know,

gone off course. And here in Jerusalem, by the way, sirens went off and we saw, we saw that missiles were were blown out of the sky over the Israeli Parliament in Jerusalems Old City, there was really the whole sky lit up around the Old City and the Dome of the Rock, which is part of you know, Islam's third holyest site in the world. That's where that's where the ALACs Mosque is. That's right, that's right.

Interestingly enough, the Supreme Leader posted some of the footage of the interceptions right over the right over the Dome of the Rock, which is I find that a bit strange. I mean, are on fired and put these holy sites at risk. And then he posts something saying, one day, you know, these they will be in Muslim hands. By the way, the mosque is, and in Muslim hands. The Jordanians run that mosque. Okay, So you said that you could see things happening over Israel or over Jerusalem.

So you guys weren't in shelters or were you in shelters? But then looking out kind of peeking. Oh, we saw the footage afterwards. Someone had posted it on my note. My family. We heard the sirens just before two am, and I grabbed my children. We went to the safe room, which I had packed with toys and other things, even though Jerusalem wasn't supposed to be a target. I said, you know what, you always have to in this in this part of the world, you always have to

plan for all contingencies. So we went running in there, which was scary for my three year old, and we heard we heard probably ten interceptions at least. We stayed in there for about a half an hour, where I was reporting from inside, you know, on our group with ABC News. Yeah. Wow, that's just unnerving. Okay, so now let's move forward. Israel is saying they're going to respond, and they're going to do it

in their way, in their time. The world is saying, right those So I mean, like I think the world is saying, mm hm, go ahead. I think you know, I think President Biden is putting a lot of pressure on the Prime Minister and the Israeli leaders to not respond with

a large military strike on Iranian soil. I don't think President Biden is saying don't respond, but he's saying, be smart, take your time, be strategic right now, right now, you know his his remarks to the Prime minister, or you know, basically, we've won one by defending against these missiles, and in a really remarkable way, we won by helping you. So do the Jordanians, the Egyptians, the Amaranths, you know, the

Saudis. Everyone rallied to Israel's cause. That is victory right now. Don't rush into anything that will escalate the region or bring us closer to war. And I think what President Biden is saying is very, very strategically smart. And I think Israel, while it doesn't always listen to the president, as we know, in this case, I think that the President's position will have

a huge impact on what Israel does. Maybe we'll see Israel carry out a cyber attack, I mean a major cyber attack, and that will be considered less than you know, enough to make a wrong respond. So we'll see. Okay, Jordana Miller, thank you so much for providing us an update. We're so glad you're safe, and everybody in Israel is safe. Thank God. All right, take care. We'll talk to you soon, Okay, puck soon. Yes. The Dodgers take on the Nationals tonight, with

the first pitch going out at seven o'clock. You can listen to the action on AM five seventy LA Sports live from the Gallpin Motors Broadcast Booth, and you can stream the game in HD on the iHeartRadio app keyword AM five seventy LA Sports. It's a special night too, because it's Jackie Robinson Day at Dodger Stadium. President Biden has issued a disaster declaration for La Ventura, Santa

Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties because of the winter storms. Residents affected by flooding, landslides, mudslides, tornadoes, and other storm related issues between January thirty first and February ninth are eligible for federal assistance. In February, La County had hundreds of mud slides triggered by days of heavy rain. Jerry's selection gets underway this morning in New York. In former President Trump's hush money

case, Trump's lawyers tried several times to get the trial delayed. Trump is accused of falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the twenty sixteen election. The IRS says it has made customer service improvements since receiving tens of billions of dollars in new funding through the Inflation Reduction Act. It says it cut phone phone wait times, digitized

more documents, and improved it's where's my refund tool? It's trying to get the word out to show what's been improved as congressional Republicans threatened to cut the additional funding the agency got. At six oh five, it's handle on the news. Ojay's gone and no one's going to go poking around inside his brain to look for any answers. I'll tell you about that. At five point

fifty. The Weegle waggle walk is less than a week away. We're going to be checking in with the Pasadena Humans Kevin McManus to get the latest on that. But right now, let's say good morning to ABC's Jim Ryan. It is tax day. Are yours all done? Yeah? Done? Submitted, refund came back. And that's the thing I remember, you know, standing outside covering back in the day when it was a big deal. At midnight on April fifteenth, all these people lined up at the post office to

get their returns submitted. The ones, invariably the ones who were waiting until the last minute. The procrast tenures were the people who owed money. Those who were expecting or rayfound back had filed a long time before that. But two things for all those folks with the Muth's slide damage that they are likely to file for extensions. If you had a natural disaster, you can file for an extension, right, yeah, we got those I think last year

for sure, everybody. Yeah, fire, yeah. And the other thing is that the first part of that Steve Martin joke here it is, he starts off, he's there, No, I'm not correcting you, because that's the second part that you told. He says, Okay, how to have a million dollars and not pay taxes on it? First, get a million dollars? Oh yeah, right, Oh my gosh, I love that one. Yeah. So did you file with this new direct file system there in

California is one of a dozen states where it's available. I didn't because mine are too complicated for the people who have pretty straightforward, easy a tax on baby. Huh yeah right, Well California, yeah, I know, you have state income tax there, so you have to file separately. There's cal file tax application, then there's the new direct file. And again California is one of the guinea pig states a dozen of them where this direct file has

been made available. It's supposed to be easier. It's free to file online. That way, you don't have to ease a tax filing online service. You can just do it yourself and save some money that way. So, yeah, this is tax deadline day and the iris will receive millions more returns today. They've already taken in over one hundred million as of earlier this month.

How many do they expect in total will file? What is the number, two hundred and thirty something like that, two hundred and thirty million something like that. It's a huge number every year, and of course it varies because they don't know how many people file for extensions. Form forty eight sixty eight is the application for an extension six months. But again, Amy, that doesn't give you an extension to pay if you owed money. It's just

an extension to file the paperwork. So what you have to do is you know, figure out what you made last year. Go to the tax bracket online the the IRS tax bracket estimate sure the amount. You oh, send them a check for that amount, and then send the paperwork six months later. But so you do need to send something just to show that, Okay, I know I owe
