Hey, it's Jennifer Jones Lee. You're listening to kf I Am six forty wake Up Call on demand on the iHeartRadio app. She likes to call it Friday. There's Jennifer Jones Lee with your Thursday morning wake up call. I would like to change what I call this Thursday to a freaking mess. Oh my gosh. I know we don't normally tell you what to do here at KFI. We let you make your own decisions. However, if you would like to take my suggestion work from home today, don't get on the roads

until later. Just avoid the commute completely. I think I saw at least two accidents myself. There were at least two slowdowns that I couldn't figure out what in the world were four, but I mean significant, you know, three four or five minute ones where you're kind of sitting there like I don't I don't know, people are going in the carpool lane who shouldn't I shall remain nameless. But it was just a kind of fend for yourself kind of a commute this morning. And yeah, if you can avoid it at all

costs, I would highly suggest that you do. Nick Paliochini and Jeff ba are going to have their hands full this morning. May the Fourth be with you both. Oh, come on, it was right there. I had to do it. In fact, last night I was like, where in the world or who came up with the May the Fourth be with you?

So we'll get into that in just a few minutes. And I don't normally do birthday shout outs, but there is a gentleman who he and his wife have sort of become part of the wake up Call crew, and so we will be doing a special shout out a little bit later, probably in the twenty segment this morning. But here's what's it had for your wake up call. The city manager in Laguna Beach has ordered two hotels in the city shut

down because it's several fights involving armed security guards. State Senator Dave men has apologized, I'll tell you why. And lawyers for the Menendez brothers, yes, those Menendez brothers who killed their parents in nineteen eighty nine, are trying to get their clients first degree murder convictions overturned. I'll tell you what their plan is. We'll also talk with ABC's Karen Travers about the Biden administration reaching

a deal with Mexico to talk about the crisis at the border. And this is right before Title forty two expires, which is the you know, can't come over to the US because of the pandemic. Well, it's about to be game on, according to border officials. So we'll get into all that in just a few minutes, but let's start with some of these stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour news room. The city manager in Laguna Beach has ordered two hotels in the city shutdown. There have been several fights

involving armed security guards. Police were called three times Tuesday to fourteen West and Hotel Laguna for trespassing claims and a fight between armed security teams. Officials say it's a civil issue that has resulted in both parties hiring armed security and attempting to force the other from the business. State Senator David Minn has apologized why well because he apparently was driving under the influence. He posted on Facebook yesterday

that his decision to drive the night before was irresponsible. He says he accepts the full responsibility and there is no excuse for his actions. Men represents California's thirty seventh Senate district, which includes about a dozen cities in Orange County. In January, he announced a run for Congress. All two hundred and thirty nine LAPD officers killed in the line of duty have been remembered at LAPD headquarters.

The officers deaths date back to eighteen sixty nine when the department was founded. Bagpipers played, helicopters flew over the memorial, and a choir band performed. LA Police Commissioner Steve Sobroff says the officers should never be forgotten. There's a whole lot to be said for what our fallen leave behind family, friends, colleagues, and the promise of what might have been loved ones have fallen. Officers were at attendance yesterday. They placed roses by the officers names at

the LAPD headquarters. Blake Trolley, k if I News. Lawyers for the Menendez brothers who killed their parents in nineteen eighty nine have fouled papers in LA to try and get the first degree murder convictions overturned Eric and law Menendez claimed they were repeatedly sexually assaulted by their father and feared for their lives. Defense

lawyers say two new pieces of evidence back up the brothers allegations. And one of them is this recent allegation that we've talked about by a former member of the boy band Manudo, who says he was sexually abused by Jose Menendez as a teenager. You can only have this type of story in Hollywood. Seriously, I'm not I'm saying you can't have two brothers who murdered their parents who claim they were sexually assaulted, and then years later a member of a boy

band comes forward and says he was sexually assaulted by the guide. That the two brothers say they killed because they feared for their lives because he sexually assaulted them. That is sadly a complete Hollywood story. Karen Travers, Boy, do I wish I was in your neck of the woods this morning for the traffic? Oh my gosh, just because yes, I'd rather just be walking taking public transportation. This commune is dumb this morning, all right, let's

does not sound good. It's like, literally, I just saw spin out after once that hadn't even been addressed by the cops of the fire departments yet. There was just one of those communities. And in the dark, when it's pouring rain and you can't see, it's like, oh, good. No, those moments of blindness not good at all. Okay, Well, maybe some clarity actually with the Biden administration and this deal with Mexico to talk about the expiration of a Title forty two and what might happen then, So

again, what is Title forty two and what's their agreement? Yeah, so I think that's a good place to start. You know that this was the public health order that was used during the COVID pandemic to keep people from coming across the border. This has started during the Trump administration, continued during the Biden administration. But next week, on May eleventh, at the end of the day, when the public health emergency for COVID ends by the Biden administration,

the Title forty two restrictions will end. Where you can't keep saying we're going to not let migrants come over the border based on a COVID emergency because the emergency will have lifted. So there's a sharp increase at the border that's expected once those restrictions expire. So the administration has been preparing for this. They've been pushing Congress to improve more funding for what they think would be a surge at the border that hasn't happened yet, so they've been taking steps that

they can do on their own. But this agreement with Mexico is not something new but a continuation of what's been done already. But they were really trying to do it up with great sandfare, essentially to say, look, we're trying to keep things in order in advance as much as we can. Mexico has already been agreeing to accept up to thirty thousand migrants, originally from Venezuela,

Cuba, Haitian, Nicaragua. They will continue doing that with this agreement with the United States, but yesterday Kareem would not say how many they would continue to accept. Is that number going to go up because of this potential surge at the border and also what Mexico getting out of this in exchange we're

continuing to accept migrants or giving them funding to do this. But you know that she wouldn't give any details on that, saying that she wouldn't get into diplomatic conversations, just saying that they appreciate Mexico, they welcome their partnership on this, and they're a sovereign country that makes their own decisions. And when it comes to the fifteen hundred troops that we might be sending to the border. Is has that become for sure at this point? I know that it

was just being talked about, So it's a done deal. Yes, this was announced this lead by the Pentagon, and the first of the fifteen hundred active duty troops could arrive as early as May tenth, according to the Pentagon. Of course, this decision was made because of the expiration of the Title

forty two decisions. They're going to be there for ninety days, and the Pentagon says will be filling critical capability gaps ground based detection and monitoring, data entry, and warehouse support until Customs and Border Protection can figure out how to do that themselves, you know, kind of. They're going to be shifting into other areas and also get contract support. The Pentagon is really emphasizing these

troops are not going to participate in law enforcement activities. Even whether or not they'll be armed is up to their unit leaders, and that would only be for self defense. All right, Karen, thanks for explaining that. I'll talk to you soon. Have a great day. Yeah. Thanks, We'll try with this crappy traffic than good luck, Thank you, see you later. ABC's Karen travers, it's rare that I would rather be in Washington,

DC than here. I mean really rare. Ukraine's president says Russian President Putin will face an international war crimes court when Ukraine wins the war. President's Lenski made the comment during a visit to the International Criminal Court in Netherlands, which is issued and arrest weren't for Putin. I thought this was interesting though this was not a video he went there. This was an in person interview.

Now, the chances of standing trial at the Hague are remote because of course the court does not really have, oh a police force, so I don't know how it expects to execute a warrant, you know, hire Bob from down the street to go. No symbolic, symbolic and sure anytime you can, you know, attack one more thing on Putin. Have at it. But is it legit or are we going to see any action from it? No? Now, Russia says it will retaliate against Ukraine for what Russia claims

was a failed assassination attempt on President Putin. Ukraine's president says the country was not responsible for the attempted drone strike, saying Ukraine does not attack Putin or Moscow. ABC's Mick mulroy says an attack by Ukraine could jeopardize its relationship with the US. If Ukraines are trying to assassinate President Putin, which could significantly escalate the conflict, and they didn't even tell their one backer, that would

be a lot of blowback. Now. Officials in Russia say the attack was planned to disrupt Victory Day, which Russia celebrates in its Red Square on May ninth to commemorate the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War Two. The White House says the US wasn't able to confirm the authenticity of Russia's claim. Russia also questioned why it took the Kremlin hours to report the incident and why videos

of it also surfaced later in the day. One other thing that I thought was fantastic was that Russia apparently thinks we came up with it, that it was the US's idea, and we somehow pulled the strings of Ukraine to get them to do it and then deny it. Or let's think about this. Could this all be a false flag for Russia where they just make all of this up to further their people to be pro war against Ukraine, which one do you think is more likely? And two students from USC have been arrested

and charged with stealing jerseys. I think this is the most bizarre thing from the twenty twenty three NFL draft in Missouri. Kansas City police say that two stole a blue Dallas Cowboys jersey and a red San Francisco forty nine Ers jersey and a Minnesota Vikings jersey. The students were seen on video leaving their hotel rooms and entering the backstage area of the draft last Friday. Oh to be

a kid again. State Senator David Minn, who represents a lot of Orange County, has apologized to constituents for driving under the influence, and lawyers for the Menendez brothers who killed their parents in nineteen eighty nine have filed papers in LA to try and get the first degree murder convictions over. Now. Remember the Menendez brothers say they were sexually abused by their dad and that their mom knew about it, and that they were fearful for their lives and that's why

they went after their dad. And then now you have a former member of the boy band Manudo, who has come forward saying that Jose Menendez also sexually assaulted him. So anyway, we'll keep an eye on that. But that's some of the new information that has come out that maybe the lawyers for the

Menendez brothers think may give them a little more credence. And I can see why with that information coming out and somebody who's willing to testify that, they're thinking, Wow, we've got a chance to get this, you know, or these convictions overturned well. Officials in Oklahoma say a convicted sex offender who killed his wife, five teenagers, and himself had been released early from prison

and was facing new charges. The bodies were found Monday, the same day Jesse McFadden was post to stand trial for soliciting new images from a teen while in prison. Text messages say he was determined not to return to prison. Orange County Transportation Authority drivers for disabled commuters have gone on strike over a contract dispute. OCTA officials have toled riders to expect significant delays and make other ride

arrangements. The union representing the drivers says they're fighting for regulated shifts, higher wages, and scheduled lunch breaks. The OCTA contracts the first service for disabled riders to a third party provider, which is called first transit that the driver's contract expired. At the end of last year, LA County has pulled together one hundred fourteen million dollars to secure nineteen hundred leases and speed up access to

permanent homeless housing. The local, state, and federal dollars will calm landlord fears by paying for things like damage repair, vacancy, and maintenance. Only sixty five percent of people who actually had a voucher to help them get into a leased unit are able to actually use that vouchery. LA Care Chief Medical Officers samere Amin says by pooling funding, the county can also lease entire apartment

buildings for housing. It takes an average of one hundred and twenty two days for those who are lucky enough to actually find a rental location to get in. The money will also be used to locate housing for people with higher care needs, such as seniors and veterans in La Corbin Carson k if I News Street vendors in Westminster could soon have to present a state or federal ID and commercial insurance to operate. City Manager Christine Gordon says vendors would also need a

business license and approval from the county Health Department. The finds go from about one hundred dollars to five hundred dollars. If a sidewalk vendor violates a portion and can't present, you know, the city with proof of a permit, then those violations are actually higher. Cordon says the goal is to ensure the vendors, their customers, and the food or product they sell are safe.

The city will vote on the ordinance next week. Let's say good morning now to ABC's Aaron Katurski, who has been watching the trial of Eejean Carroll, who was accused former President Trump of raping her in a department store in the nineteen seventy nine Aaron, good morning. So there's a third accuser now,

and what did she say yesterday? And I guess who is she? Natasha Stoynoff was a writer for People magazine in two thousand and five when she was sent Tomorrow Lago to write an article about Donald and Malanya Trump's first wedding anniversary, and during a break in the interviews and photography, she says that Trump led her to a room at the club and she was looking around, heard

the door shut and before she could turn around. She said Trump's hands were on her shoulders, he was kissing her and pushing her against the wall, holding her there. And later on, when this story came out as part of the twenty sixteen campaign, Trump denied it by saying look at her. I don't think so. And Ejean Carroll's attorneys have been trying to suggest that Trump's behavior is part of a pattern, not only a predatory type behavior,

but also denying allegations against him by disparaging the way women look. When the second accuser came forward, So first you had Eegeene Carroll, and then you had the woman who said that he assaulted her on a plane also I guess in the seventies. And then this woman, Natasha Stoynov says he assaulted her in two thousand and five. Did the pattern? Also the second woman who said on the plane, did former President Trump also say something about like look

at her, I wouldn't or something like that. Did? Yes? He did? Okay, So that just continues that pattern, And that's what the Eegeene Carroll's attorneys are trying to convince the jury of here. Because there is no physical evidence of the alleged rape of Egeene Carroll at a department store and you know, somewhere around the spring nineteen ninety six. Instead the e g And Carroll's account bolstered by two friends who she said she called immediately after.

And then this whole notion of a of an alleged pattern, which Trump of course denies, and the defense is not going to put on a case. Defense attorney Joe Tacopina said he would be calling no witnesses, so it will be, you know, left to just eg And Carrol's side and whatever holes

the defense can poke, you know, as part of cross examination. As more and more of these accusers come forward to show this pattern that they claim that the former president has, does it become more difficult for Tacopino two poke holes in that if person after person comes forward and says the exact same thing essentially, well, it may although he you know, suggests that some of this is political because a number of these women, um, you know,

first surfaced their allegations during the twenty sixteen campaign. Natasha Stoynos said she was just angry that Trump told Anderson Cooper he had never laid a hand on a woman without consent. She saw the access Hollywood tape where he's bragging to Billy Bush about what he does with women without their consent. He dismissed at his locker room talk, but Ejean Carol's side says, this wasn't locker room talk. This is exactly what he did to her and to these other women.

All right, Aaron, thank you for the Oh what happens today? Are they back in court today? Yeah, they're back in court today. The final witnesses are expected to testify, including Carol Martin, who's a former television newswoman. She's one of the friends. But Carol says she told of the attack in real time and witness testimony should end today. Summations on Monday, and the judge told the jury to be prepared to get the case for deliberations

early next week. Oh fascinating. Okay, we'll be watching that. Aaron, thank you so much. Thanks don all right, see you later. ABC's Aaron Katersky. This trial has been kind of a fun one to watch in the sense of even if you think it's a you know, witch hunt, as the former president has said, the actual trial itself, to me, has been fascinating. How do you poke holes in the story of a

woman who claims she was raped? How do you go about that, especially your male attorney, which makes it, I think, just on the surface more difficult. But how do you poke holes in her story without coming off sexist, without coming off as though you don't believe a woman who says she was raped? How do you do that? Because you're gonna have women on the jury, or you're gonna have men who have daughters and wives and sisters

and whatnot, how do you delicately do that? I don't know. I'm sated by the angles sometimes that prosecutors and defense attorneys have to take, especially the defense, when you're like, man, this evidence is stacking up against this person. How do they do that tactfully and make their case without looking like as Shannon would say, apples on the stand. Hey, I want to give a shout out to Ronald Nessman. He's a guy in the High

Desert who's being called a hero. He stopped a runaway baby stroller before it went into a busy street. He said, he just finished his job interview on Tuesday, and all of a sudden he sees the stroller rolling backwards and the woman watching the baby based into her car, so she didn't see it. Then when she does, she trips and falls when she realized what happened, and that is when Ronald Nessman stepped in and saved the baby. Ronald Nesman, you are the KFI Wake Up Crew, wake Up Call Crew,

hero of the morning. There we go. That's Jason Middleton and I and Tyler giving you the applause. All right. I don't normally do birthday shout outs, but there is a gentleman who he and his wife have become part of our wake up call crew. They're my neighbors. You hear me talk about Cupcake and pink cheeks. They go out with us to ball games and

whatnot. Anyway, it is a special day today. I want to give a big shout out and thank you too my six forty am crew, Tea Money, Adventurous Amy, Nicky Mouse, and Jenny from our block for always thinking of myself and Pink Cheeks. But I'd like to give a special shout out to my wife today for her birthday. The most beautiful woman in the world, and I'm grateful and thankful to have her in my life and I just wish her many more to come. Love you, baby, Happy birthday

to Stephanie also known as Pink Cheeks. But I love that he has given the entire wake up call family and Amy so t money is Tyler Nicky mouse one. That's what I was like, Okay, they came up with a good one for you, Nick adventurous Amy because she's on all of your Instagram videos with the oh hi, which I love. And then Jenny from our block. How cute is that? I'm in anyway, happy birthday staff. So cal Edison says it's preparing for wildfire season by consulting with weather experts and

scientists. The company says it has seven meteorologists and two scientists to help anticipate whin these heavy wins could pick up. One of so cal Edison's meteorologists says the company is developing its own tools and computer models so it can help predict where thresholds are that could cause us spark. I'm down with this. I

like this. And Jamie fox Man, we finally heard from him yesterday because I think he'd been in the hospital for lake three weeks or something like that, and he says he's feeling blessed following a medical complication that happened a couple of weeks ago, Jason, I don't know if you've been following this story too, but like what happened, his daughter, I think was saying, you know, prayers from my dad. But it was quiet. It was silent, like radio silence as far as any details. But then you had

what he says, He appreciates all the love. Cherry Shepherd, Ludacris, other celebrities were re applied in the comments showing support. But all he says is he's feeling blessed after a medical complication. I don't mean to point out the Lifetime movie in this. Yeah, it was a post on Instagram. How do we know he posted it? I'm just sure saying, well, he's got a team of people, right, it's Hollywood. Well it is

Hollywood. And I'm not saying that there's anything to fairies or that like he's not, you know, I don't know, not feeling blessed and whatever. But we still don't know what's going on, right, But I I guess we're we should be happy to hear from his team, sure, absolutely, I mean other than the NBA ads that I see him all, yeah, we haven't seen him in a while. No, so I don't know. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Hey, Jason Middleton the host of Macro on

Sundays from two until four. Also he is on Oh my, you're on all the time. Oh no, no no, I feel like yeah on Saturdays, and I get to join you and Bill on Thursday mornings and then I fill here and there whatever I can help. And I haven't talked about it, but I'm going on vacation the week after next what next Friday, and then the week after that. Jason's in for me that whole time, looking forward to it as always, Well, thank you and I appreciate you

letting me go to the reading rodeos. This cruise just a ton of fun. So it's it's it's a it's fun to be here. Well, we're glad you're here. I don't know if I was a Google employee, if I'd be like, hey, I'm so happy to go to work, mister CEO, when you just got a fattle pay raise and you're cutting costs across the board. Yeah. The contagion that's going through the tech sector with the layoffs that started in January continues, and it's just not a good look when

you're CEO makes two hundred and twenty six million dollars. And this before I knew we were going to talk about this today. I was driving yesterday, stuck in traffic, and because it's Los Angeles, and so I was thinking, like a ten percent cut, even a five percent cut at that level could fund several employees and their benefits every year. And then so I saw the sun Dark Pachai, the CEO of Google, two hundred and twenty six million dollars, and they're gonna do a stock buy back this year. So

a stock buyback. First of all, you do those in order to keep the investors happy. Right, you take, you take, you you're minimizing the supply of stock that's out there, which keeps the prices elevated. Okay, so it's it's basically its own inflation control win away as far as it's share price. But you can't do stock buybacks when everything's in a trough. You don't buy stock buybacks, and so people take losses, right, so stock must be doing just fine. So then you have that. And then

I looked at Satianda Dallas fifty five million dollars annual salary. He's the CEO and Microsoft, and he's the one who started all this AI discussion earlier this year with open ai, chat, GPT and bing, which by the way, has doubled its search volume since that announcement. So he makes fifty five and took a pay cut, so you can see. So now, charity, Now think about all of the workers do you have in the tech sector that are slashing around the labor market right now. A lot of those are

auto automatically hired out. They never hit the unemployment payrolls, so then they've had a file. But at this volume, I'm sure that there are yeah that are having to file. So it's it's it's not virtue signaling so much as it's good good economics. I'd be surprised if Google doesn't do something about

this pretty quick. They need to do the virtual virtue signaling, even if it is in a hindsight Kenneth Way, absolutely, because if you're one of the employees who it has had their job cut or has had their department cut, or whatever it is, and you're doing more for either less or the same, you're thinking to yourself, wait a minute, just exactly what you are What could even a drop in the bucket of his big old pay raise

due for the company and for morale exactly. That's what I mean. That's why I think in a hindsight kind of way, there will be a headline in the next quarter, maybe before their next earnings, which just happened a lot of tech sectors rolling through its earnings last weekend this week, So we'll see by the time it comes around next time how things go when it comes to the stock buyback, and if he's going to keep his salary that elevated

during these times. Also, don't forget when tech companies hire people, they often don't have work for them right away. If they do that to basically elbow out other tech companies from hiring that talent. So you might be hired I didn't know that, hired at a big tech firm, and maybe not have much to do for a while, and then all of a sudden, you'll have everything to do. You'll be working eighty hours a week all of a sudden because a project that fits your skill set is coming in the door

or something they want to get out the door. So a lot of hoarding of employees happens within tech. So we've seen a little bit of that, but a lot of this goes back to zuck and zucker Burke's saying this is the year of efficiency, and when he does it at Meta, that means other companies are looking at it too, all right, And speaking of Meta, the FTC says Meta should be barred from monetizing data from younger users.

I'm actually good with this only because do they have younger users? Well, they that's a great well, I mean they not on Facebook, but yeah, with the metaverse they probably definitely do. Sure, And then but from those younger users kind of just like anything, you need parental permission until eighteen. Why is it that I guess the tech world should be any difference. This is kind of a leopard in spots thing. Does Zuckerberg change the culture

of his companies? We only have to go back to Cambridge Analytica to see how Facebook handles data and privacy. Doesn't really have a concern until it's called out. And so if they're calling it out now, that's that's that's at least we learned our lesson last time, right, all right? When it comes to Elon mus oh yeah, yeah, he says he wants to slash Twitter down to about a thousand employees. I don't know how many people are left a Twitter. But don't you feel like that's all he's been doing,

is slashing employees at Twitter? And wasn't there Also, I want to say that Elon Musk was saying that he was close to having the Twitter finances like back to normal or something like that, and I thought, I don't know what graphs you're looking at, but I haven't seen those specifically. It's not just that we don't have to look at the books. We just have to look at what Twitter is trying to do, the blue check mark thing that's not making any money for them, which is which is another problem. We

don't see any monetization. I really think that Elon is just now figuring out the Twitter as an advertising platform. Remember he didn't want to buy it in the first ways. He sued not have to go through with that forty four billion dollar purchase and they were like, too bad, you said it, you did it. You know you gotta be signed. That's right, So it's yours good luck and that hasn't been working out great. And also this week with Elon and I'm about to record this for my show for the weekend,

is he wants to change the handle for NPR News. You saw that. They said they weren't going to do it because he had put on their a label said state sponsored. Yeah, right, right, right, Well, it's a it's a Class C felony to change that. It's it's an identity claim and identity theft. If he changes that in Oregon, that is a class felony. So great. I've got eyes on that too, because I don't think he'll do it. I think he just does it to rattle

a cage here and there and to stay in the news. But it'd be nice to see Eline in the news for a different reason, a non negative reason. Absolutely all right, Jason is going to join Bill coming up at eight o'clock this morning. Then also he like he like he said, he anchors on Saturday. He's got his show Macro from two to four on Sunday, and then he is going to be at the helm of this show starting next Friday through the whole following week. Because like I said, it is,

here's here's the thing. I told my mom, She goes, You're coming home for the rodeo. Yeah, And I said yeah, I said, First Cottonwood Rodeo is on Saturday during the day. I mean then the steak feed and dance downtown in Reading is Saturday night, so my cousins and I are I'll go in. Do you get like a cool feedbag that's emblazoned

with the logo for the event? That would be kind of cool, right that's Mom says, you're coming home for a steak feed and dance And I said, Mom, you know what, this will be the first time that I've gone that I'm legal, and she goes, oh, you've never been there since you were twenty one. I said, no, I just used to sneak in, right. Oh sorry mom, Sorry mom. Yeah, that's what you have to look forward to with a teenage daughter. ABC is Mike Debusky. Good morning to you. I'm going to throw it to you

with the line that you wrote in your email last night. Yes, we still suck at coming up with good passwords, but there could be a solution on the horizon. Tell me about World Password Day, right, yeah, Jenn, So it's not looking particularly great when it comes to our password habits here in the United States. Nord Pass, which is a digital security firm out there, They put out an annual report on World Password Day looking at

what the most common passwords in the country and globally are. Well. Globally, the most common password is the word password, which is not a very secure password at all. Domestically, it's a little bit different. The most popular password is the word guest, which I thought was kind of interesting, followed by one, two, three, four, or five six, followed by password. So we're not doing particularly well what it comes to keeping our

passwords secure. But according to an announcement from Google yesterday, that might be about to change. All right, tell me about that. What's Google doing? So? Google is pushing this new concept known as a pass key, and a good way to think about it is just a lock and a key

system. Your phone will create a very long string of code, a very secure password, and then the website that you're trying to get into, the account that you're trying to log into, creates a separate string of code, a very strong password, and only those two pieces of code can talk to each other. It's a lock and a key system. And you might be wondering, how is that different from a normal password. Well, the difference is that you don't have to remember it your phone, just do it on

its own, which is pretty interesting. Plus it's stored locally, which means that if hackers were to breach Amazon dot Com or Facebook and steal all the passwords, they wouldn't get anything of value because Facebook doesn't have my password. I have my password stored locally on my smartphone. The other thing that it is particularly very good at is it cutting down on phishing accounts. Phishing attacks are where hackers set up a realistic looking version of the login screen for Gmail.

Well, if I type in my pass key into that, they're not getting anything of value because the lock is wrong. They don't have the special lock that the actual Gmail has that I'm trying to get into. So they say it's a much more secure system. Apple has a version of this that they rolled out on iOS sixteen last year. Microsoft's been doing this for a few years, and they say it's a term that we're going to be learning a lot more about in the coming years. It does it cost you anything?

Does it cost anymore? Does not cost you anything. I set it up on my Google Pixel last night, and I logged into my Google account. I did it within the span of time. I set the whole system up within the span of time. It took a commercial break during Jeopardy to happen, So it's pretty easy. It's actually, you know, I was surprised by how you know, seamless the technology was. But the trade off is that not a lot of websites support this right now. Shopify supports it,

Best Buy supports its, CVS Health, a few others. But you try to log in with a pass key to a website that doesn't support it, it's not going to go anywhere, right, you have to log in with traditional credentials. Okay, How or what does this do to the two factor authentication which drives me baddy because it's always like my cell phone is not in the same room and now I'm running around the house. What a mess?

Yeah, it is. It operates similarly to two factor authentication in the sense that if I'm trying to, for example, log into my Shopify account I will have on my desktop, I will have to pull out my phone and get into that using biometrics, right, but I don't have to, you know, receive the code and then type it back in, right Like it's it kind of cuts out out one of the steps there, So yeah, it does. It's similar to two factor authentication. But it's it's a

little bit simpler, all right. Can we go back to the list that you gave us of passwords because I sort of want to smack society that literally Handle talks about one two three four five six. He jokes about that, right that. He says, it's like Bill one two three or Bill you know whatever. He jokes about that. And I thought to myself one time when he was joking about that, like, please, it's not like most people have that. I was I apparently was way wrong. Yeah, no,

they say this again. According to nord pass one two three, four five six. They found one hundred and nine thousand, three hundred and twenty two instances of this according to their report. And what's more is the most common passwords, the one hundred most common passwords that they surveyed, eighty three percent of them can be hacked in less than a second gen SOB it's really

really bad. But then again, you think passwords the way the way we you know, operate our digital security lives at the moment, it's actually pretty insecure. Passwords aren't that great. They are good, ones are very long and complicated and hard to remember. They're also vulnerable to data weeks, as we discussed, and we also have a lot of them. According to Nord pass we have between eighty and one hundred different accounts that we have to log

into. That's a lot of passwords to remember. So of course we're going to make them a little bit simpler, and we're going to double up, which is a bad habit as well. So, oh my gosh, yes, I can't tell you how many times that yeah, I've used the same one. Or usually it'll be the dog of the week, either the dog that I'm most proud of that week or the dog that I am most annoyed with that week, and then I try and change it up, but then I forget what week it was, so which dog is it? And oh

yeah, it's kind of a mess. Oh absolutely, thank you so much. May the fourth be with you when it comes to be with you. Yes, these good passwords. All right, You're awesome. I'll talk to you soon. Take care, Jim Pike, all right, see you later. ABC's Mike Dabuskie. I was looking at Jason, who's still sitting in here with me this morning, like, are you freaking kidding me? So?

What what are your dog's names? Again? And should we join you every week to find out which dog no. Because you know what, if you look at my Instagram from last night, Betty was being awesome and in fact I videoed her. That's a change of pace for Betty, right, and I was like, oh my god, I have to document this. So Betty said good night to everybody. Right. It was adorable, super cute, little two second video jjlkf I. I was so proud then on

that one. Then I literally took the video, walked into the bathroom where I had a bubble bath running, which I take almost every night before bet and night hear that freaking dog jumped in a full bubble bath. It's on there. JJLKFI. I don't know if she's the good dog today or if she's the bad dog, or if I'm gonna leave her in the rain, or if she's the past she could you never know. May the Fourth be with Betty, because Lord knows that dog needs some What are the origins of

May the Fourth be with you? So it actually is a celebration of all things Star Wars. Nick Paliochini, I'm gonna bring you in because I know that you and Amy King went to Disneyland and you are. Oh my gosh, you were following the Mandalorian. It was amazing. We saw grogu Amy lost her issue. She just had the most amazing time with Mando on Batu, which is at Galaxy's Edge. So we did that on Tuesday, and

there's actually another event happening tonight. Hopefully the rain doesn't affected too much, but Star Wars Day will be celebrated with a very special edition in Disneyland after Dark Star Wars Night tonight. I did not know that the slogan was originally Flit flopped in nineteen seventy eight to greet people on the fourth of July.

This is according to Lucas Film, who says Carrie Fisher described playing Princess Leia and working with George Lucas in this rare interview in Night Or nineteen seventy seven.

The next year, May the fourth became the fandom's unofficial holiday. After Margaret Thatcher I know this is a reach won the election to become Britain's first female prime minister, so to celebrate her victory, her party took out this half page advertisement on May the fourth of nineteen seventy nine in the London Evening news that read May the Fourth be with you, Maggie. Congratulations. Did you guys know that I had no idea? Yeah, no idea? Was

the Iron Lady a fan of Star Wars? But I don't know where the original Jason, We're gonna go ahead and say yes, yeah, yeah, yes exactly. So Nick, now there is a special offer that a friend of yours has in Long Beach that actually you have been kind enough to give us here that we are about to try this morning. But a special May the Fourth offer in Long Beach today, Yes, exactly, and that is going to be at the Pie Bar, which is at four fifty Pine Avenue

between fourth and fifth in Long Beach Downtown Long Beach. There is a special offering today that is blue Milk cutie Pie, which cutie pie for them is kind of a layered pie that comes in a mason jar. But if you're not familiar with blue milk, it is from the Bantha that are on tattooing from the Star Wars galaxy. And it is a delicious offering that is made

with vanilla pudding and blueberries and fresh blueberry compote on top. But a lot of people around the country and around the world will be celebrating with special offerings. You can get that exclusive thing today opens at eleven am and runs until nine o'clock tonight until it's sold out. There will also be some additional fun things maybe oh something from the dark Side. If you're a Star Wars fan, you might be able to go with your allegiances there. And also definitely

The Resistance will be available too. So there's a lot of things going on. If you check out This Weekend with Nick. You can tune into me on Friday's Here with Later with mo Kelly at eight pm, but you can go to This Weekend with Nick on Instagram and I've got all the details about this also the stories that Gen talked about, the origin story of with Margaret Thatcher, and also from Star Wars dot Com some additional things so maybe where

it came from. So there's some little easter eggs if you will that they're there, if you want to check me out on Instagram. I love it all right, and where can they go? Nick? Where on instan me? This Weekend with Nick? This Weekend with Nick on Instagram? Okay, perfect, Nick, thank you and please thank your friend for us. Tyler

just showed me the little Mason jars adorable. It looks so good. They're like layers, right, so it looks like a high crust on the bottom, maybe the pudding in the middle, and then the blueberry compote on top. Oh my gosh. And because I love you, I threw in a banana cream also a white chocolate raspberry and third one was I can't remember what the third one was. There's another pineer anyway for all these treats to start

us out. And again that's the pie bar in Long Beach today eleven to nine and that's at four fifty a Pine Avenue between fourth and fifth and downtown Long Beach. All right, thank you so much. Nick, thank you all right, I'll talk to you soon. And Laurie, thank you very much. It's KAFI and KOST HD two Los Angeles, Orange County. Your so cowweather from KFI is disastrous today as far as the drive goes. So we've got rain today. But if you can stay home, my suggestion,

not telling you what to do, I'll boston you around. I would stay home because it's ridiculous out there. Jason almost got into an accident. It took me like at least twenty minutes extra to get here this morning really difficult to see. Yeah, it just really really is, so please slow down. Yeah, absolutely, And the trucks that are out there, it's not their fault, but they're spraying the heck out of anything that's behind them.

Standing water everywhere. So the forecast today is more of that. Unfortunately, it looks like it probably won't really taper off until tomorrow, but then by the weekend are we rewarded? I guess sunshine and warmer temperatures. We lead local live from the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. I'm Jennifer Jones Lee.
