lots going on, Here's what's ahead on a wake up call. President Biden says now is the time for the country to pass the torch to a new generation as the reason he decided not to run for reelection. He talked about his decision to not run from the Oval Office last night, following weeks of pressure from his allies concerned about his mental fitness and whether he could defeat Donald Trump in November. We're gonna find out more about what he said and what
he didn't say with ABC's Karen Travers. In just a couple of minutes, a man's been stabbed leaving a metro station in North Hollywood. The LAPD says it happened outside the Metro b Or Redline station at Lancasham and Chandler Boulevards yesterday, shortly before two pm. The LAPD says a person walked up and stabbed the man for unknown reasons. Southwest is changing its first come, first served seating policy and for the first time in its fifty year history, we'll begin

Also coming up on wake up call, we went out and about to find out about Barbe at the Bowl this Saturday night, and we have a pair of tickets so you too can get in the pink that's coming up at the bottom of the hour at six oh five. It's handle on the news. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has chastised the
protesters outside as he gave a speech to Congress inside the capitol yesterday. Let's get started with some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. The man who broke into the home of La Mayor Bass has pleaded no contest. He was given a suspended sentence yesterday in order to get mandatory drug abuse and mental health treatmental be on two years probation. Ephraim Hunter was arrested in April for breaking into the Getty House in Hancock Park. Bass and
her family were home at the time, but no one was hurt. Anaheim has approved Orange County's first veterans cemetery. The two hundred and thirty eight acre plot also includes a desperately needed public cemetery that could open right as the county runs out of burial spots in twenty twenty seven. The cemeteries approved Tuesday also reserved plots for firefighters and police officers in Anaheim. KORbin Carson KFI News Mister Speaker, the Prime Minister of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been greeted with
applause before speaking to a joint meeting of Congress. He thanked the US for its assistance in fighting against TAMAS and pushed back on the notion that Israeli forces are intentionally putting civilians in Gaza in harm's way. Every civilian death is a tragedy for Hamas. It's a strategy. They actually want Palestinian civilians to die. Netanyah, who says Israeli forces are heroes who should be commended, not
condemned. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the Prime Minister's speech to Congress was the worst presentation ever given by a foreign dignitary. She skipped the meeting yesterday to attend a live listening session with families of hostages held by Hamas and those killed in the war. Roughly half of the House and Senate Democrats did not attend the address. Thousands of people gathered outside the capital to protest the war.
Today, Israel's Prime Minister will be meeting with President Biden at the White House, and then we'll also be meeting with the likely Democratic presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris. Time to check in with ABC's Karen Travers at the White House. So, Karen, the President spoke about leaving the right race for president from the Oval Office last night. What did he say about wise leaving. The President said that in recent weeks it was clear that he needed
to unite his party. He said, I revered this office, but I love my country more and that nothing can come in the way of saving democracy, and he said that includes personal ambition. So he decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation, that that was the best way to unite the nation. He'd never explicitly said he did not think he could win the race. In fact, he said he thought his record as president, his leadership around the world, and he said his vision for
amer America's future all merited a second term in office. But he implicitly seemed to be acknowledging and conceding that there was a recognition he was not likely to win the race, or that the Democratic Party was ready to move on from him. He said, it's the honor of his life to serve as president, but in defensive democracy, I think it's more important than any title. I think. It was also notable to hear the President say there's a time
and place for long years of experience in public life. There's also a time and place for new voices, fresh voices, yes, younger voices and he said that time and place is now. But I think we've talked about this. How back in twenty twenty, when he was running for the White House, he said he viewed himself as a bridge candidate, not anything more, but there was another generation of leaders standing behind him who were the future of
the country. Really looking at himself as a transitional president. That changed, of course, when he decided to run for reelection. Now he is saying he's ready to pass the torch. But you know, depending on what happens in November, there could be many who say he should have done this a year or so ago in order to pave the way for that next generation. And it was a huge shift because just last week when he was talking with I believe it was Lester Hold, he said, you said you were a
bridge candidate, but now you're running. And he said, that's because the job's not done and I got to do it. I'm the one to do it. So he was not finished. He was animant about that that he still had things to do. The job wasn't finished. Now, he did say he still has work to do. He said, he has six months left on the job, and there are a lot of things he wants to accomplish. That's different though, that's you know what I'm going to do,
serving out my lamb duck presidency. But again, he really did say last night that he believes he still should deserve another four years, but also recognizing that there are people in the Democratic Party and the country who don't agree with that, so that you know, this is an inflection point, as he said that this moment will determine the fate of our nation and the world for
decades to come. So, you know, Democrats saying it was the patriotic decision, it was doing his duty for the country, and a very selfless but difficult decision for the president to make. Yeah, and a very carefully crafted speech. And you know, because we I think we all know at this point he didn't want to step down. No, I mean, I think he wants to stay in. He could have made that clear last night,
but there was a political reality facing him. I also think it was notable the White House yesterday said he did not make this decision because of his health. He did not make this decision because he doesn't think he can serve another four years in office, or didn't think that he could continue this campaign
and He never got into that last night. He never acknowledged you know, what had been swirling for the last several weeks since the debate, the democratic concern and handwringing over his ability to serve another four years and what that meant about his mental fitness and mental acuity. That wasn't talked about it all last night in his remarks, which isn't surprising. I mean, I was thinking about it because there was a lot of people saying he didn't even acknowledge that,
And I'm like, how would you acknowledge that? Because she I just can't handle ready to go? Yeah, So, I mean I give him kind of a pass on that, although I think we all know that this was not his ultimate goal. He doesn't want to do this, and it's
kind of having to do it. Yeah. So what happens now is a business as usual at the White House while Harris goes out to make her case for why she should be president, or she'll be out there on the campaign trail, you know, very aggressively, I think, you know, the spending the bulk of her time on the campaign trail. The President continues the work of the president, and today he is meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu today here at the White House. That's a very critical meeting. One of the big things the President laid out last night was his work tried to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and bring home the hostages. And then Vice President Harris is also going to meet with them. Are they going to meet separately or together? They're going to have a separate meeting. She is traveling today and then comes back and meets with Netanya, who separately later this afternoon.
Okay, Karen Travis, thank you so much for the information. We'll talk to you soon. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Excessive heat warnings or advisories are in place for many areas in La County, and more triple digit temperatures are likely in the Antelope Valley. The National Weather Service says there's a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms across interior parts of the area through this evening. A heat advisory

Excessive heat warnings are in effect until tomorrow for the Coachella Valley, with temperatures expected to hit one sixteen, but the weekend should be cooler. Children La County are getting educated on excessive heat. The Board of Supervisors instructed the Department of Health the partner with other agencies to develop a curriculum to present to students in pre K through

That makes children more vulnerable to heat illness and it can have serious effects on their health and well being. The board also asked for a heat alert warning system to be distributed to schools and childcare facilities, along with instructions on how to react in downtown La Michael monks KFI News. Nine more former students at Rosemead High School are suing the

Russian and Chinese military jets and bombers that got too close for comfort have been detected, tracked, and intercepted by US and Canadian forces off Alaska in what's known as the Alaska Air
Defense Identification Zone. It happened shortly before President Biden's Oval Office address last night. NORAD says the planes did not actually enter US airspace and went on to say that the planes were not seen as a threat. The man who broke into La Mayor Bass's home has pleaded no contest to felony vandalism charges and was sentenced to two years probation. Twenty nine year old Ephrem Hunter must also pay
fifteen thousand dollars restitution and get drug mental health treatment. Mayor Bass and her family were at home at the time of the break break in in Hancock Park in April, but no one was hurt. The La Zoo has broken its own record with seventeen California condor chicks hatched during this year's breeding season. The final chick hatched last month. The zoo says it's doing well. Each of the birds could eventually be released back into the wild. In nineteen eighty three,
only twenty two California condors were left on earth. There are now five hundred and sixty. More than half of them are flying free in California, Arizona, and Mexico. At six oh five, is handle on the news Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to Congress through thousands of protesters who took down and burned American flags and sprayed graffiti on monuments, including things like Hamas is coming. Let's say good morning now to ABC Crime and Terror analyst Brad Garrett.
Heybrad morning, Amy. Hey, It's going to be two weeks on Saturday since an attempt which was made on former is it in Trump's life? We're finding out more and more about the shooting. But are we finding more out about the shooter? Well, only a little bit apparently did a Google search of the distance between the shooter of President Kennedy back in sixty two or sixty three. He bought ammunition the day of the shooting. But the thing I
find most interesting is what he had on his phone. And it wasn't anything incriminating, but he had pictures of President Biden, former President Trump, FBI Director Ray, Attorney General Garland, and the Princess of Wale, Kate Middleton. Now what that tells me is, and obviously that's a diverse group of people, is this wasn't probably about former President Trump. This was about fame, which is a common characteristic of mass shooters that they want attention and they
want it to be as glorious as they can be. And obviously killing any of these people I just mentioned would get you a lot of attention. Now you'll probably be dead, which is the case here, but apparently that doesn't matter to them. You know, you mentioned that he also had pictures of Kate Middleton, which just that just went ooh, that's like with Reagan's attempt
assassin. He was wasn't he obsessed with Jody Foster? Yes, and he was just trying to get to draw attention to himself, basically thinking in his deluded mind that that would have some positive impact on Jody Foster. Yeah. So, Brad, if we can't learn what a shooter's motives are beyond like you're saying, the kind of the signals are showing that maybe he just he wanted the fame, what can be done to better protect people for the future.
So we just have to have advanced indicators. Now, some people would argue that they had advanced indicators at the rally and they had missed opportunities, which may end up being true. We'll just have to see. But if you're talking about like prior to an actual event happening, you have to have two things. One, you have to have the information. So in other words, postings on the internet, texting messages, correct snapchat fill in the
blank. He did use apparently some encrypted apps, the director Ray said yesterday they're still working on so don't see where that goes. But the short answer is without information, I could rattle off about a dozen characteristics of this kid that fit almost every mass shooting, but it's not helpful because you and I probably know people that are isolating, they're depressed, low self esteem, hate,
the world, but they don't go out and harm anybody. So it's good to know, but it's not helpful in getting in front of the next mass shooter. And so it's A the information, but it's B excuse me, or actually three things. B it's telling somebody in law enforcement, and C this law enforcement actually doing something about it. So knowing that some people, like you said, not everybody turns into a mass shooter. There's a lot of people who are depressed, hate the world, disenfranchise or whatever.
I mean, knowing that, is there a way to diffuse a potential mass shooter aside from making the world this happy, happy, joy joy place, which we know we can't well, I mean, if you have enough information like you and California have red flag laws. I don't know about Pennsylvania to have to look, they had a red flag law and they had information that he was going to go harm himself or others, they could temporarily cease fire arms. Could that have slowed him down? Maybe? Excuse me. The
problem with mass shooters, Amy is that it's all you know. They work on these things for weeks and months at a time, and he's been thinking about this for a long time. I'm going to assume, and so even if you seized his weapons, would he figure out a way to get another
one? Maybe? Well? And then what's interesting too is, like you said, he's been thinking about this for quite a while, and I'm not sure how how much in advance they announced the rally, But was it an opportunistic thing, like he's been obsessing about it and he goes, oh, wow, look the former President's going to be right there in a couple of weeks, right. I think there's no doubt that's the case. That obviously
the other targets are potential targets that I mentioned were not convenient. And I think just if you would have switched things around and said the President Biden was having a rally, in particular an outside rally in or near Pittsburgh, that that's where he would have been in July and not in Butler County, Pennsylvania,
where President Trump was. So seeing from what you've seen and what you know of this, because I'm sure that you've been watching it very closely, in your opinion, Brad, could anything have really been done to stop the shooter before he got to the rooftop one hundred and fifty yards from the president or is it just this okay? I think so okay, I mean, and I'm not pointing fingers because I'm not inside this investigation like I used to
be. But there's too much time between. It looks like to me, where civilians seeing with a weapon on the roof, where local law enforcement seeing with a weapon on the roof, and before the Secret Service actually take him out, which is after basically he's fired eight shots. Yeah, and it's only by the grace of God he didn't kill former President Trump. It's,
you know, probably because he was rushed because the officer. One officer did climb up on the roof, he pointed the weapon at him and then apparently swings around and then starts shooting, knowing he's probably at a time, which was true. So I think there's missed opportunities there. I'd like to know more. When they labeled him a suspicious person an hour before the event started, like at five o'clock, what does that mean? Why did they label
him suspicious? They didn't label him a threat according to the Secret Service director. Now, there's always going to be odd people show up at these events. It's just the reality of events, and there'd be a lot of people you might want to keep an eye on, but you're not going to devote four officers to follow him around because the acts strange. So is it something like that? And maybe or maybe not, he had this folded stock AR
fifteen, which probably would have fit in the backpack. Did he have that them or did he go back and get it? My guess is he didn't have it, then he either stashed it or it was in this vehicle. But he was outside the perimeter anyway. He was outside the perimeter. But he also, though, was at a place on this building where other people could have a line of sight of President Trump. And so you asked to ask the question, you know, why wasn't there another sniper on the roof
of those buildings in and where he was? I mean, I'm second guessing here, but the point being, did they have enough manpower? And I'm directing that more specifically not at the Secret Service, but the Sinney County and state officers who these events would never happen if they didn't help, because they couldn't pull them off. And they do a lot of this perimeter stuff you and I are talking about. And did they have enough people? I don't
know they may have and they may not have. That's going to be part of this investigation. Well, hopefully they'll learn and course correct and keep these people safe in the future. The protectees. Yeah, I mean, I'll just say as a final note, it's a dicey thing at these events, particularly if they're outside. You have so many moving parts. And I'm not
saying that Secret Service did this correctly because I don't think they did. But I have some empathy because things can change so quickly on you and then you're you're behind, You're behind, and once you're behind in an event like this, it can be fatal. All right, Brad Garrett, ABC News Crime and Terrorism Analyst, Always appreciate your time and your inside. Thank you,

This week at the Hollywood Bowl, one of the best places, in my humble opinion, on the planet to see a concert, things are looking distinctly pink this weekend because Barbie is coming to the Hollywood Bowl this Saturday night. We caught up with the producer and conductor of this one of a kind performance, Macey Schmidt. Good morning Ma, Good morning Amy. So tell us what is this Barbie experience at
the Hollywood Bowl. Absolutely so, this Barbie experience at the Hollywood Bowl. Barbie the movie in concert. Many of you in LA who have seen shows at the Hollywood Bowl their live score film concert events. The experience is that the film plays on a big giant screen, actually at the Bowl, many giant screens, while an orchestra plays the music live. But what's different about ours not only that the orchestra is my all women orchestra, the Cinfignetta,
that we really are taking kind of the creative to the next level. So when you step into the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday night. You are in Barbieland we've left the real world at the door. Oh and the the amount of creative that we've kind of put into making the audience feel like they are in Barbieland, like we were truly spending a night. If if you lived in Barbieland and you wanted to go have a night out of the symphony, you
would go see the Barbie land Sinfignetta and they wouldn't be playing Molta. They would be playing Dua Lipa and Lizzo and all of the artists of Barbieland. Okay, so there's going to be decorations. There's there's some very special stage creative that I will say is the film not common for live score events at the Bowl. There's a stage creative that is designed to be Barbieland. The all women musicians are costumed, They have a lot of they have a lot
of interaction with the film. That's also not common for the kinds of live score events where all of women on stage are Barbie and they really interplay with the action of what's going on in the film. There will be some audience interaction things, and I will say for those of you coming. I really recommend sticking around towards the end of the till the end of the credits, because there may or may not be a barbieland fireworks spectacular. But who can
say? Okay. So it's sort of like when you go see a movie these days where they have the little clips at the end that you need to stay through the credit. It's the same kind of idea. Uh huh. Okay. So you said that it's an all female and it's called a cinfignette. It's the orchestra's called the Sinfignetta for this special performance, the Barbie Land Sinfignette. Okay, and it's an all women and almost entirely women of color orchestra. Awesome and how unusual is it to have an all woman orchestra?
Extremely unusual. I actually founded the Cinfignetta. The first one, the Broadway Sinfignetta in New York. I found it in twenty twenty, and as the Sinfignetta gained attraction, we started launching them around the world. We have a Hollywood Sinfignetta based in La A Broadway, Somethingetta based in New York, a few others around the world. But for the special event they're coming together as
the co branded Barbie Land since Finetta. I love this. Okay, So when you come into the Bowl and if you've been to the Bowl, and if you haven't been to the Bull, you guys, it's time. If you haven't been to the Bull, it's time. Tell us what makes the experience at the Hollywood Bowl such an amazing amazing I mean, the Hollywood Bowl is just I mean, iconic is almost too overused of a word for when the Hollywood Bowl is. I was just at the Hollywood Bull this past Saturday.
I'm supporting another show, and I was just taking it in. It's it's like there's a majesty, like a majesticness to the Bull, arch the hills, the scope of how big the crowd is, and I just there's nothing like seeing a show, let alone a film concert in the Bowl. It really to be on the one year anniversary of this film World premiering this
show at the Bowl is a dream. I love that. And one of the things that I think is so special about the Bull too, is the sound is so and I don't know this is an untechnical term, but it's pristine. It's pristide, it is world class perfect. No matter where you're sitting, it's just like, how did you do that? Like you go to a concert and sometimes this sounds not that great, but at the Bowl
it's perfect. I mean, it's really something special because in every single department, in every single category putting together this show has not just been in I've done other film concerts where it's just you show the film, you bring the music, and orchestra plays it down, and that's really it. The scope of creative and multi department coordination required for the show is more kin to a
Broadway musical than your average live score ahead. The number of departments doing creative on this at the Bowl, every single one of them is just world class and at what all comes together. And there's still tickets available. There are some tickets available at Hollywood Ball dot com. And again, even if there's only a few tickets available or which we don't know the number right now, but even if there's not the seats in the front row available, every seat,
every seat OFFFIC good seat is amazing. And any special surprises plan, there are some special rises plan. One of them that's not not too much of a surprise that I can share is if you come a little bit early. Yeah, there's a lot happening on the concourse at the Bowl that is going to be very exciting for fans. We have concourse activations. We're actually going to be showcasing a mini museum right over there, actually of the original
costumes from the film that the actors wore. Yep. We'll have glenbots and photo ops, life sized doll boxes, all kinds of fun things you can do, really special exclusive merch and dolls to this show. And so you know, I recommend getting you a little bit early to experience the concourse at barbieland before we go in for the show. Okay. And the showtime is at eight o'clock PM. The doors and concourse open at six pm. Okay. And to get tickets, where do they go? They go to Hollywood
Bowl dot com. Macey Schmidt, the woman in control of this whole show, the conductor, thank you so much for your time luck at the show, Thank you so much. Warner Brothers says it'll fight it. We're just minutes away from a handle on the news. This morning, President Biden explained to the nation why he's not running for reelection without really explaining why. Let's say good morning to ABC's
Stephen Portnoy Steven. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Nannaho delivered a speech to Senators and House members. What were some of the notable moments and how was he received? Well, he was warmly received. I mean like you had roughly half of the House Democrats and a number of Senate Democrats who did not attend, but those who were in the hall in the House Chamber gave Nityahu a standing
ovation. Throughout there were some lines where some Democrats sat on their hands while Republicans left to their feet and applauded, but all the whole it was a warm welcome. No disruptions, although Capitol police reported that a few people in the galleries were taken out, didn't up end the speech in any way. The Israeli Prime Minister pointed up to the gallery where he brought with him multi ethnic heroes of the Israeli Defense Force, freed hostage families of hostages still being
held by Hamas. He thanked American lawmakers for their support urged for American materiel to be more hastily sent to Israel. He vowed that he would not rest until all Israeli hostages are returned, until Israel achieves total victory. He said that Hamas monsters entered his country last October seventh. They raped women, they beheaded men, they burnt babies alive, he said. And he had a key message for Americans who have taken to the streets. He said these protesters
should be ashamed of themselves. He called them Iran's useful idiots. And here's a memorable quote. He said, some of these protesters hold up signs proclaiming gaze for Gaza, they may as well hold up signs saying chickens for KFC. Well, Rashida Talib, the Democrat from Michigan, held up a sign that read simply criminal. She attended the speech. A house floor staffer asked her to put the sign down, and she did. That's why I didn't
see it again. I saw when she put it up, but I couldn't read it, and so I was looking for it for kind of the rest of the speech and didn't see it again. Well that's right, okay, pretty powerful speech and he seemed he was trying to fight back against the allegations of war crimes and that kind of thing. Did you do you think there was a receptive audience. Do you think he made any difference. Well, I think in the House chamber certainly the people who were standing and applauding liked
what they heard. Ultimately, he was blasting the International Criminal Court in this idea that there's any kind of equivalence between the way that he has prosecuted the
war against Thomas and the way Hamas conducts itself. He said that if food is in not getting to Palestinians, it's not because Israelism providing, it's because this is Hamas is stealing it. Now, look, you have international aid workers who say that the picture is different, that there are unnecessary security hassles that have been put in place by the Israeli forces, that you know, there aren't as many deliveries as the need would would call for, that you
know, things along those lines, and that the people are looting because they're desperate. And you know Netna, who is trying to make the argument that he's doing more than any than in America would do if it were in the
same position. If you had an enemy right on our borders. So I think what's interesting is, as Netna, who was speaking, you had a large and times violent demonstration outside the capital with desecration of Columbus Circle here in Washington, d C. Which is just in front of Union Station, the
main Amtrak station in town. And you had a replica of the Liberty Bell desecrated, painting graffiti in favor of Hamas, Hamas is coming and Israel, some of the scrawls on the statue of Christopher Columbus, which the National Park Service has been working this morning to clean. Any of those people get arrested or is it just that it's a big crowd and they kind of go eh, I'm sure there were some arrests. I don't have those details. Okay. Who was not there? Stephen Well, a number of key lawmakers.
I mean, look, Nancy Pelosi skipped the speech, Alexandro Kazu Cortez skipped the speech. Patty Murray, the president pro temporary of the Senator who would otherwise be instead of the vice president, was not there. The vice president was not there. She was in Indianapolis yesterday speaking to a sorority group. JD Vance, the Ohio senator was also not fair the Republican vice presidential nominee. He also, interestingly enough, was in Indiana campaigning for the Trump Vance
ticket. Okay, Stephen Portnoy, thank you so much, you bet. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. NORAD has intercepted four Russian and Chinese military planes off the coast of Alaska. ABC's Luis Martinez says the bombers did not enter US air space yesterday because they were flying through an area that stretches one hundred and fifty miles from the coast of Alaska. Aircraft are required to identify themselves when they fly
through that area, which triggers intercepts if they do not. It was the first time Chinese military aircraft have been intercepted off Alaska. A woman suspected of fatally stabbing her wife with a Samurai sword in San Dimas has been arrested for murder Elie Kenny. Sheriff's investigators say the woman had gotten into an argument last week when one of them grabbed the sword. The murdered woman's mother was also attacked and severely injured. She was able to grab the sword and run out
of the house. LA County is working to improve services for people experiencing gender based violence. A formal gender based Violence work group has been established by the Board of Supervisors. prevent gender based violence from occurring in Los Angeles County. Lake Tahoe's getting warmer. The Tahoe Environmental Research Center says the second highest surface level temperatures
in the last twenty five years were recorded at Lake Tahoe this month.
