You're listening to KFI AM six forty wake Up Call with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio app KFI and KOST HD two Los Angeles, Orange County. It's time for your morning wake up call. Here's Amy King. It is five o'clock, straight up. This is your wake up call for Tuesday, October seventeenth. I'm Amy King. Let's see October seventeenth. That means

fourteen days until Halloween. Ooh, two weeks till Halloween. I want to say a quick thanks to Chris Little, our fearless leader, for taking the reins of wake up call yesterday because I had to Ugie Boogie got to go to Disneyland for the Ugi Boogie Bash, which, as you may or may not know, is an after ours, separate ticketed event at Disney California Adventure

and it sells out every year. But thanks to my buddy Nick Pola Jochini, we got tickets this year and we went and it was a hoot, and I got to tell you it was very cool because you know, it actually brought back memories of my childhood when you used to go which you don't do anymore, but when you used to go door to door to door all around your neighborhood where your parents would go drop you off in the nice neighborhoods

so you could trick or treat. And there was just tons and tons of people out and about and everybody's dressed up and having a good time in trick or treating. Well that's what they were doing at Disneyland, although it was a lot more adults. I mean, there was a lot of kids there, but there was a ton of adults and everybody was dressed up and having fun. There were lots of Alice in Wonderland groups, which was interesting.

I went as a Cheshire Cat there. There was a lot of beetlejuice, saw some Flintstones, there were some Sanderson's Sisters, hocus Pocus, lots of Oogie boogies. So it was really really cool though to see everybody dressed up in some people. There was some cocoas and that kind of stuff. Lots of Disney stuff, but a lot of not Disney stuff too, and it

was just fun to see everybody dressed up and having a good time. So we'll let you know next year when Ugi Boogie Bash is coming up, because it does sell out every year, so you got to jump on it if you want tickets. Here's what's ahead on wake up call this morning. Israel has bombed areas of southern Gaza, where it had told Palestinians to flee to

ahead of an expected invasion. Dozens of people were killed. Attacks along Israel's northern border with Lebanon also led to concerns over a widening regional conflict that diplomats are working to prevent. The US and Israel are putting together a plan to provide humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza. Secretary of State Anthony Blincoln says it's critical aid gets to Gaza soon. President Biden is heading to Israel tomorrow.

The Cowboys rallied in the fourth quarter Darn It to the Chargers twenty seventeen in Monday night football action at six oh five, it's handle on the news. LA Mayor Baths and other city officials are in Washington, d C. Bill's going to let you know why they're there and what they want. Let's get started with some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. About two thousand US troops have been given prepare to deploy orders. A

defense official says they won't necessarily go to Israel or Gaza. They'll be going to a nearby country to get ready to support Israel in the war against Hamas Hamas. Those who got the orders were on a six ninety six hour prepared to deploy status, which has now been shortened to twenty four hours. As I mentioned, President Biden is headed to Israel. He is expected to make

the trip tomorrow. Secretary of State Anthony Blincoln announced Biden's plans yesterday, saying he will make it clear the US stands behind its ally amid the ongoing war with Hamas. President We'll hear from Israel what it needs to defend his people as we continue to work with Congress to meet those needs. B Lincoln says. Biden will also warn against anyone trying to take advantage of the crisis to

attack Israel. Biden's going to travel to Jordan afterwards to meet with Arab leaders, including Palestinian President mak muk Abbas. The Israel Hamas war has become a major topic in the Republican presidential primary race, mainly whether or not the US should accept refugees from Gaza. Florida Governor Ronda Santis says he's against it. If you look at how they behave. Not all of them are Hamas, but they are all anti Semitic. None of them believe in Israel's right to

exist. Minnesota's A G. Keith Ellison, the first Muslim lawmaker in Congress, says the US needs to be accommodating. Most people who live in Gaza are under eighteen years old. You know, this is very important for people to understand. The United States cannot close US doors. The next Republican presidential debate is November eighth in Miami. A votes expected in the House to try

to elect a new speaker. Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan as won the support of several previously skeptical Republicans, but it's still not clear if he has enough votes today to win. Jordan says the only way to get it done is the way the founders intended. With a floor vote. You can open the House and do the work of the American people and help our dearest and closest friend, Israel. If you don't have a speaker. Kevin McCarthy was ousted

from the position two weeks ago. The House has been unable to pass legislation while the job's been vacant. Let's say good morning now to ABC's Stephen portnoy Is. Stephen, President Trump has been gagged by a judge. So what did the judge rule and how will this or could this affect him on the

campaign trail. Well, the judge made it clear yesterday that as a criminal defendant, Donald Trump does not have unfettered First Amendment rights, that he has to abide by her orders and has to understand that he has some restrictions on his freedoms, and in particular, what he might say that might affect the fair administration of justice. And the gaggoter really touches on two things. One

any statements the former president might make about witnesses in the case. And two any statements he might make that would target either the prosecutor, whom he's called deranged and a thug, a special counsel Jack Smith, or members of the

court staff. And she made a note of the fact that last week in New York, or in the last couple of weeks in New York, there was a Trump social media post that the judge in the New York Case civil case ordered him to take down because it was a picture of the court clerk tying her to Chuck Schumer and her politics, and ultimately, Judge Tanya Chukins said that she didn't want to see that sort of thing happen in her courtroom in her case. And so, look, these are restrictions on the speech

of the leading Republican candidate for president of the United States. Donald Trump, appearing yesterday in Iowa, said he will appeal. He sees it as unconstitutional. But Judge Chuckkin's argument, forcefully against the argument that was made by Trump attorney John Lauro, was that Donald Trump stands before her as a defendant in a criminal case facing four felony counts, and that no criminal defendant would be able to call a prosecutor a thug and expect to be able to get away

with it. He's not having any luck with this judge. Well, she listen, she is holding the line. And while she was able to, for you know, give a bit of leniency, she made a point of that too. You know. She noted yesterday that while the hearing was taking place, she waived Trump's requirement that he'd be there. She allowed him essentially to continue campaigning in Iowa. She did not say that she would restrict his

speech about President Biden or criticizing the Justice Department. She said he can even say that the case being brought against him is politically motivated. She said that he can criticize Mike Pence basically on his policy positions, but he can't talk about Pence as a witness in the case or have anything to do with what it is that Pence is going to testify about, which is the pressure that Trump applied on him in the lead up to January sixth. Okay, so

I would imagine they're going to be watching him like a hawk. So if he decides to kind of blow off the gag order or tap dance around it, what could happen to him? Well, possible sanctions, this is all theoretical, would arrange everything from a reprimand to some you know things. For example, no longer waiving the requirement that he sit in attendance at some of these hearings that are going to be held on various motions. She could compel

him to sit in the courtroom. She could move up the trial date. Ultimately, she could hold him in contempt of court. What does that mean potentially finds maybe even jail time. Oh my gosh, it just gets It's just such an upseea down sea topsy turvy world. I know you got to go. We were going to talk about the vote on the House floor today, which is hopefully going to happen, and then I guess we'll maybe be talking about it to that sounds good. All right, Thanks so much,

Steven, appreciate your time. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Dozens of Israeli soldiers and civilians, including women and children, are being held hostage by Hamas inside Goza. We've been telling you that for the past almost two weeks. ABC's Steve Ganyard, who served in the Departments of State and Defense, says Hamas has had years to dig underground tunnels because they've had to stay out of Israel site.

He says it's likely that's where they're keeping the hostages. So it's very, very tough to these relative crack from an intelligence perspective, and it's why they will have to put troops on the ground. Hamas claims it has at least two hundred to two hundred and fifty hostages. Officials in Israel say more than fourteen hundred Israelis have been killed since the war began. The death toll between

both the Israelis and Palestinians is now up over four thousand. Governor Newsom has signed a bill expanding a ban on the use of certain types of rat poisons. The rat poisons contain ca chemicals that have killed a lot more than rodents animals that eat to target animals like bobcats. Mod Alliance Coyotes records birds of prey affects their life and their reproduction, and their ability to haunt and put them in bad shape. The BAILL bands the use of first generation coagulant rat

poisons developed before nineteen seventy. In twenty twenty, a mountain lion and bobcat died from the direct effects of the anti coagulant that they ate in north Ridge and a Gore Hills. The most famous mountain lion in the Southland p. Twenty two, who passed away last year, was treated for rat poisoning at one point, but he survived. Irvine has broken ground on a one hundred and fifty bed mental health and substance abuse clinic. This will be the second

such clinic for Orange County you will Ohs. The interim CEO, RICKA. Foble, says, both clinics offer crisis services and residential treatment options for families of people in crisis instead of just the emergency room or jail. Irvine campus will expand on the services offered at the Orange campus by expanding capacity, but we will also offer new services focused on substance use treatment for adolescents and Perry natal services for women and young children. The clinic is scheduled to open in

twenty twenty five in Irvine Corbin Cars n KFI News. Three people have been killed in a shooting outside of Pizza Place in North Hollywood. Police say three to four men drove up in a silver car last night and fired into another car at Lancasham and Moore Park. One person died at the scene. Two others drove themselves to the hospital, where they also died. A jury in La has awarded more than thirteen million dollars to the daughter of a man who

died in Van Eys in twenty nineteen. While in police custody. Footage shows the man sitting on a curb at a gas station, putting his hands behind his back before LAPED officers approach him. Attorney Dale Galipo says the officers pinned the man down and kneeled on his back until he fell unconscious. Officers don't lose their jobs, they don't get demoted, they don't pay a dollar out

of their pockets, and it's business as usual. Gallipo says. The city and LAPD found the protocol to be with it policy and forced the case to trial. Attorneys for the man's daughter say the man died from asphyxia, while the medical examiner ruled the death unspecified. Chris Adler kf I News. At least five adults have gotten into an all out, dragged down fist fight inside Fantasyland at Disneyland. The fight Sunday was near the Storybook Land canal boats and

the Mad Tea Party rides. Video shows people hitting each other and bumping into an empty baby stroller. The theme park says the group was immediately removed and no injuries were reported. I think that happened before I got there, Thank goodness. I hate all these fights that are breaking out at theme parks. Hey, this song might drive you crazy, but people must still want to hear it too soon? Yeah, well, Mariah Carey is extending her Christmas

Day at the Hollywood Bowl. She's added a second show. The first show on November seventeenth sold out in just minutes. Fans started saying, we need another one, and they announced that a second show has been added. It's on November nineteenth that the Hollywood Bowl. If you haven't been to the Bowl, it is the best place ever to see a show. It's just fantastic. But let's see The American Express Early Access tickets go on sale starting at

ten o'clock this morning on AmericanExpress dot com. Then the Live Nation presale starts Thursday. The Ticketmaster pre sales starts Thursday, and tickets for the general public go on sale Friday at ten am at livenation dot com. She is one heck of a singer. I know that's something dumb to say. I mean, she's just so amazing. A vote for the new Speaker of the House is scheduled for today. Jim Jordan is the nominee. Not clear if he

can get the votes needed. He can only lose four Republican votes to get the two seventeen needed to be elected. Since there's no indication any Democrats are going to vote for him. Several schools evacuated their campuses after getting an email bomb threat. The least say it was part of a wave of spam emails that originated overseas and were sent to hundreds of campuses. It was deemed not credible, but still affected Catholic and private schools in La Puente, Laverne,

and Claremont. Yesterday, if you missed the extended deadline to file your twenty twenty two taxes, well you can take a little breath because you still have time. The IRS kind of made a surprise announcement yesterday and said the October sixteenth deadline was being now extended to November sixteenth. The deadline was extended already four fifty five of California's fifty eight counties because of last winter storms. At six h five, it's handle on the news. President Trump has a new

gag order. What it means and whether he will adhere to it, that's coming up right now. Though. Let's say good morning to the host of How to Money on KFI, our financial whiz Lars Guard. Good morning Joel, Good morning Amy. Hey, holiday spending is about to kick into high gear. What's the and I'm realizing that because I just saw a post on social media. It was Elf, one of my favorite movies, and he said ten weeks until Christmas. How did that happen? So what is the

holiday spending season sort of shaping up to be? Well, it feels like twenty twenty three flew by. I'm surprised to be talking about holiday spending already, but it's where we are. It's crazy to think that it's mid October and you know, Christmas and the holiday season is really just a couple of

months away. And there was some new holiday shopping data that came out and it was talking about how much consumers expect to spend, and especially younger consumers millennials and gen zers, they're planning on increasing their spending in the fourteen to fifteen percent range this year. That's a lot. That is a lot. That's a that's expecting to spend a lot more than you spent last year. It's not just a five or six percent bump. It's not just keeping up

with inflation. It's like, no, I think I'm going to like splurge a little bit more spend on my friends and family, And I think that's kind of the mentality that consumers are in right now. It does worry me though, because it's not necessarily like we have as much cash as as maybe we had this time last year. So it concerns me that people are thinking, oh, I'm going to spend in a bigger way, but I don't necessarily have the actual cash on hand to be able to pay for those items.

I wonder if it's a pre pandemic knee jerk reaction or a post pandemic jerk, or a knee jerk reaction, you know, like because we were saving and saving and now people are like, hey, that's ridiculous. Now we can be out and about, let's spend. I think there's some of that. I mean, I think that's what the revenge travel sort of the phenomenon is all about. It was like, Oh, I couldn't travel for so long, so I'm just gonna go. I'm gonna double down now that

I can. And so I definitely think there's something to that. The problem is for so many people that they're going to wake up, and this happens every year. I get phone calls every single year from people in January and they're like, my credit card bills out of control, and it's going to take me months to pay this thing off, And so I just want people to be careful on the front end. If you want to increase your spending and you have the cash to be able to do so, that's one thing.

But start budgeting now, thinking ahead about like who am I actually buying for how much money am I going to dedicate to spending on each of those people? And it now's a great time to have a conversation as well to say, you know what, I actually don't have the money to spend on Aunt, Susie or whatever lover. I'll make her a great card, maybe even homemade, but it's gonna be one of those things where I'm not spending

as much on certain segments of the family. And you could have that conversation now and say, hey, listen, if I start, I would actually be going into debt. I'd be missing out on some of my other money goals. And I know that that feels like a weird, awkward thing to say, but it helps jump start a conversation, and I think it's actually a really good healing thing for your family to be able to be honest with them and say it's probably not a good idea for me to go into tons

of debt to fuel this consumption oriented holiday season. I'm gonna have to take a step back from that. And it doesn't mean that I'm not here for all the family gatherings and the pot lucks and the turkey all that kind of stuff. I'm here for all that stuff, but I just have to dial it back on the spending. Yeah, And normally I'm a don't start with the next with the holiday until the last one is over, Like you know,

no Christmas before Halloween, Christmas before Thanksgiving too. But I'm usually one at a time holiday. But in this in this instance, I think that is a good thing to start thinking about, Like maybe have those conversations. I would tell you our family has had those conversations in the past, and then we we ignore ourselves. You just don't follow through. You keep buying like as you're going to. Yeah, we go, oh, let's cut back this Christmas. We have a small family, like a tech nanit family,

and so we tend to overdo it just for each other. And yeah, maybe we'll have that conversation again this year. So there's people are spending money that they might don't necessarily have and so there's sort of it's sort of like the new layaway, right, the buy now, pay later thing. Oh yeah, buy Now, Pay Later has now been around for a number of years. It's something I've not really been a fan of since its inception at basically letting people it is kind of like the new layaway, but it's

different in one specific way. It's it's lay away was one thing because you were you were leaving the item with the retailer and you were going back to pay that item off, and then once you paid the item off, you were able to take that item home with you. But with buy Now, Pay Later, you get the sweet sweet reward of getting the item shipped to you immediately and you're paying it off over time, and so it's kind of

like the reward is already there without having paid the cost. And there's some new data out that talks from the New York Fed and they found that a lot of buy Now, Pay Later users are financially fragile. And it's not even because the people who it basically means like, it's not because they're not making enough money. The folks really do have a reasonable income. A lot of the folks who use buy now, pay later. But they're living paycheck

to paycheck anyway. So they might have a six figure salary, but at the end of the day, they're still turning to buy now, pay later to buy things that they can't actually afford, and so it perpetuates a cycle and maybe you forget, oh yeah, still have two payments left on those jeans, I'm gonna go ahead and buy the sweater, or I'm gonna buy this airline ticket and put it on BNPL. And because of that, you end up having too many payments and your money's going in so many different directions.

I would rather see people pay for the whole price of something upfront and if they can't afford it, wait and buy now, pay later. It's just this behavioral slippery slope for people. It's not even that the terms are all that bad or anything like that. I don't it's the behavioral element that causes people to think that they can afford something or or it pushes them to

buy something that otherwise they might avoid. And we see this in the research that people are if you're using buy now, pay later, the cart size is bigger, so people are shoving more things into their car, saying you know what, I can add more and more to this order because I'm not gonna have to pay for it and full. I'm paying in for easy installments. And that is a slippery slope too, and it's going to leave you, I think, regretfully having bought a bunch of things that you could have

done without. It sounds too. So it's like a credit card without using the credit cards. So you're like, oh, I'm not using my credit card. Yeah, I mean basically, and credit cards to me are different. I think of credit cards is very different than by now, pay later. There's a little bit of that element. But the truth is credit cards come with a bunch of protections for consumers and there are rewards attached to them

as well. And yes, there is a certain element of not having to pay the full bill right at the time, because you know you're going to pay the statement balance at the in full at the end when you get it. But it's so it's different to me than buy now, pay later, and I but the credit card comes with other benefits that make them make them make a lot of sense in my mind. But by now, pay later, because it's that payment buyer mindset that we so easy, we get into

as Americans. I mean, it's we're not thinking about the total cost of ownership of almost anything these days. It's always about well, how many payments for how long and how much are those payments going to be. That's the wrong mindset if you want to make you know, progress with your personal finances. Okay, so B and pl those are the new letters to watch out for. Oh yeah, it's a firm Klarna. After pay those guys, you're gonna be You're gonna be inundated at checkout this season? Do you want

to pay for it? And for easy installments? And it sounds so good, it sounds like you definitely want that, but in reality, it's you're going to be paying for those things well into twenty twenty four, and that is not what you want. Caveat empdoor, right, do what caveat empdoor? Let the buyer beware, Yes, exactly, exactly beware. Joel Larsguard How to Money with Joel Larsguard Sunday's noon to two right here on KFI. And if they want to follow you you on social it's at how to Money

Joel. Right, that's right, all right, thank you, we'll talk to you again next week. Always love our talks sounds good. Thanks Amy, Thanks Joel. A federal jury is awarded thirteen and a half million dollars in damages to the family of a man who died four years ago after two laped officers threw him to the ground and put their full body weight on him, even though it was determined he had not broken the law. The US and Israel are putting together a plan to provide a humanitarian aid to civilians in

Gaza. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken says it's critical aid gets into Gaza soon. President Biden is heading to Israel tomorrow. The Cowboys rallied in the fourth quarter and beat the Chargers last night, twenty to seventeen in Monday Night Football Action. Darn it. Then at six oh five, it's handle on the news as Israel gets closer to launching its ground assault on Gaza. Hamas has released video of one of its hostages, a twenty one year old woman.

At five point fifty, We're going to be talking with Megan clink with the Susan G. Coleman Foundation about the la more than Pink Walk happening this Breast cancer Awareness month, So stay tuned for that right now, Let's say good morning to ab Jordana Miller in Jerusalem. Jordana ground ass all could happen at any minute. What's the feeling in Israel. Well, the feeling it's real,

is that you know, the country is gearing up for war. But the news that President Biden will be here tomorrow, I think is bringing some sense of calm, perhaps before the storm, but a sense that, okay, we have another twenty four hours or forty eight hours until the massive assault that the Idea of said in the statement it was going to carry out in northern Gaza, focused on Gaza City. Civilians in the Palate and in Gaza

are continuing to move south. According to Israel, about six hundred thousand are on the go, but they are pouring into southern Gaza, you know, into a small place that's already dense and cramped, and it's clear that tens of thousands of civilians will not make it out of Gaza City before the assault, and that will leave many people the sick, disabled, you know, the elderly and poor people who simply can't move south and leave them vulnerable in

the middle of this war. So that is that is upsetting still the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip remains closed, even though we have reporters. You know, ABC has reporters in Egypt, and we know there are trucks and convoys they're waiting to get in. They have not gotten in yet,

and that's for various reasons. We know the United States is trying to figure out a mechanism by which that both that aid could come in, perhaps be inspected for any arms, and then some kind of supervision when it is distributed so that it doesn't get into the hands of Hamas. Okay, and we had reports that there was some shelling in to southern Gaza today where Israel's telling people to go, what's going on with that? Have you heard of that?

There have been some strikes in southern Gaza and along the Rasa border club crossing the exact crossing that remains closed. We asked the army about that earlier today and they said that was because there were Hamas operatives in that area. The Israeli army says it's hitting you know Hama's targets based on intel. Now, so it was a few days ago that Israel said, okay, you got twenty four hours to get out, and like you're saying, there are

people that just can't get out or it's taking them longer. Did Israel possibly postpone because of that to give them more time? I know that they said, oh, bad weather, we're going to have to push back the invasion. Oh, there's no doubt that one big factor in holding off on the ground incursion and the massive assault is connected to the civilian population in the Gaza strip. Israel wants to see as many civilians, innocent civilians that also you

know, are victims of Hamas and do not support Hamas. They want to help those people get south, where as before they really go in on the ground, you know, in the north. That is absolutely one major consideration. Okay, is there a sense of frustration? I mean, like the people who live in Israel are having to deal with so much after the horrific attacks and they're still kind of reeling from that. But from around the world you're hearing, oh, we need we need to cease fire, or we

need to stop the attacks on the innocence in Palestine or in Gaza. Sorry, but is it do they get the feeling that people are forgetting how horrific what happened to Israel was only you know, a week and a half ago, right. I can tell you the Israeli public is firmly behind the war against Hamas. They support the objectives of getting Hamas out of the Gaza Strip, even if that means it's a one or two or three month ground incursion

where Israeli soldiers will die. They the horrifying evidence now that Hamas terrorists hunted down Jews in the south of Israel, in their homes, in their cars, on the streets, you know, breaking down the doors of their safe rooms, killing parents in front of children, killing pregnant women, killing babies. This has triggered something so deep in the Israeli and really Jewish psyche that

no one here on the ground opposes there. I mean, it would be a handful of people that oppose this mission, this aim to get Hamas out of the Gaza Strip. And you see the civilian population mobilizing tremendously, helping to buy anything, you know, fill in the gaps for soldiers, cooking, taking in families, raising money, even setting up their own center to help locate hostages. Right, some of the real tech whizzes coming in on their own time to do that so the country. It took a huge hit,

but they are now firmly behind the mission. Okay, Well, thank you for letting us know what's going on inside Israel and for your continued reports, and we do hope for your continued safety, Jeordiana, and we'll look forward to talking to you again soon. Thank you so much. Thank you. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Several Hollywood unions have demanded the major studios get back to

the bargaining table with actors. The AMPTP suspended talks last week, saying the gap between actors and production companies is just still too big. Actors had been negotiating with the studios for nearly two weeks before the talks broke down. Actors say they will stay on the picket lines until they get a deal tailored to their needs. A six year old Muslim boy murdered by his family's landlord near Chicago's been buried. Mourner's yesterday remembered the boy as kind and energetic. His

murder is being investigated as a hate crime. ABC'SPR Thomas's. The boy's mother was also stabbed by the Landlord on Saturday, but survived. Authorities claim the seventy one year old Air Force veteran attacked them because the child and his mother are Muslim and because of hatred Todd to the Israeli Hamas War. The boy was stabbed twenty six times. The mother remains in critical condition. A proposal for a library review board in Huntington Beach is about open access to books versus

keeping sexually explicit books away from kids. They are looking at something that's more of a culture war attack than something that is real. Friends of Huntington Beach Library Board member Carol Dawes says this is a political non issue. All those books the Crucible to Kill a Mockingbird will be taken out of the young adult section. Mayor pro Tim Gracie Vandermark says the review board would decide if explicit books on gender and sexuality with pictures should be moved from the kids section.

If we repeat every detail on the radio, you couldn't play it, but it's okay for our children. She says. It's about protecting kids, not banning books. In Huntington Beach. Corbin Carson k if I News, I'll vote for a new Speaker of the House is scheduled for today. Jim Jordan is the nominee. It's not clear if he can get the votes he needs. He can only lose four Republican votes to get to the two seventeen needed to be elected. Three people have been killed in a car to car shooting

in North Hollywood. Police say the shooting happened last night outside a restaurant. LAPD is looking for for Hispanic men who left the scene in a silver sedan. If you miss the deadline to file your twenty twenty two taxes, you can take little breather. You still have time. The IRS made a surprise announced but yesterday and said the October sixteenth deadline it's been extended to November sixteenth. The deadline was initially extended to October for fifty five of California's fifty eight

counties because of last winter's storms. We're just minutes away from Handle. On the news this morning, the family of a man who died in LAPD custody has been awarded more than thirteen million dollars. It is Breast cancer Awareness month, so we wanted to make you aware of a way you can help by taking a little walk. So let's say good morning to the vice president of Susan g Cummen West Region. It's Megan Klank. Good morning, Megan,

good morning. Oh let's see if we have a little bit better connection there you are, okay, Megan, tell us this morning, tell us about the walk. Who is walking, who can walk? And when is it? The walk is on Sunday, October twenty ninth at Exhibition Park And anybody welcome to join us right now. We are expecting over five thousand individuals nice to be on site with us that day, yes, okay. And if people are interested, it's it's Saturday, October twenty ninth, right, Sunday,

October twenty Yeah, Sunday, October twenty nine. And how do they get more information about signing up and registering and all that. Yeah, just go to Cooman dot org and put the Los Angeles Walk in the search bar and all the information will come up on how you can get signed up and join us for just a day of community and connection and reminding everyone to take action on behalf of their breast health. Okay. And I know that you

say that anybody is welcome, but the focus is really on whom. Yes, the focus is to celebrate our community of breast cancer survivors and those who are living with metaphatic breast cancer and their families and their coach and friends. But you do not have to be one of to stand with and so we invite everybody to come out and join us on that beautiful morning and just learn more about what you can do to help us in the fight against breast cancer.

Okay, and I don't know what the most up to date numbers are, but how how many people are affected by breast cancer each year? Yeah? Unfortunately, the statistic is still one in eight women in the United States in her lifetime will be diagnosed with breast cancer. And so it's so important to know your body and know what's normal for you and early detections can help save your life. Okay, so let's talk a little bit about the Susan

B. Common Foundation. When people are doing things, making donations, are going for a walk and raising money to that, where does the money go to? Yes, So we have three distinct areas that we invest in our mission and take a three hundred and sixty degree approach. So we invest in breakthrough research because that's what's going to get us to the cure and we're the

love just nonprofit investor and research in the world. And then we also advocate at the federal and state and local levels so that no matter where you live, or who you are, or what level of insurance you have, that you have access to quality, affordable healthcare. And then we provide direct assistance to patients who meet our help right now. And that's for a patient care center. Okay. And when you say you provide direct assistance to patients,

what do you mean by that? Yeah, so we provide financial assystems as well as navigation services to make sure that we are essentially a warm hug you call us. We will help you for as long as you need and just in terms of access to any other local resources and to answer any questions and help you understand and navigate your diagnosis. Yeah. Well, speaking from experience, I can tell you that getting a cancer diagnosis is a scary thing.

You don't know how to navigate, and it's kind of like your doctor goes, hey, look what we found and then you go, so, oh, well, what do I do next? Like who you know, where do I reach out to? And that's one of the things that the Comman Foundation can help you do. That's exactly right, and we will that we're

there for you as long as you meet us. Okay, And you know, I had a friend who had breast cancer and she relied on the Susan B. Coleman Foundation extensively because again she didn't know and after going through the treatment and then she had the masectomies and the reconstruction and all that, they

just kind of helped her get stuff done. And she was like like, go this way to do this, and we'll help you arrange this flight for this and you know, I mean they really just helped her walk through it and so she could focus on her healing as opposed to focusing on how to get through it exactly. You know, we like to say you do not have to do this alone, and it is no matter who you are,

it's so overwhelming as you're going through treatment. And so you know, please use Coman as a resource because we are truly there to help any person navigate their treatment journey. Awesome, and you will definitely not be alone if you join in the More than Pink Walk. This not this, but the Sunday the twenty ninth at Exposition Park. And again, what's the website to go to to find out more information coman dot org and then search for Los Angeles

Walk. You got it. Well, best of luck to you. Thank you so much for your time, Megan, and let's raise a lot of money so we can beat this thing. Thank you so much. All Right, you take care. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. California Governor Newsom is speaking out against the Hamas attack on Israel. In a pre recorded video, Newsom offered his solidarity with Jews around the world. Hamas terrorists didn't just attack Israel, they

attacked Jews everywhere. So let's be clear. These acts were pure evil, and as we all know too well, evil can only prevail if good people sit idly by and do nothing. Newsom's video was played during a rally in West la on Sunday in support of Israel. The US and Israel have agreed to develop a plan that will provide humanitarian aid from donor nations to the people of Gaza. Secretary of State Antony Blincoln says it's critical the aid starts arriving

soon. Police in Belgium have shot and killed a suspected Tunisian extremists accused of killing two Swedish soccer fans in Brussels. Prime Minister Alexander Ducruz says a third person was also injured. The perpetrators targeted specifically Swedish supporters who were in Brussels to attend a Red Devil's soccer match. Amateur video shows a man pull up on a scooter and open fire on people before chasing them into a building to

gun them down. Prosecutors say the man is thought to have been inspired by ISIS. Russia's President Putin has been met by an honor guard in China as he arrived in Beijing to meet with Chinese leaders. The two countries have forged an informal alliance against the UN and other democratic nations. China has tried to balance its ties with Israel, which the US supports, with its economic relations with Iran and Syria, which are strongly backed by Russia. Russia's waging a

new offensive in eastern Ukraine. ABC's Patrick Reevil says Russia has been trying to encircle a strategic city using thousands of troops and armors. So far, it's suffering severe losses. And gaining very little ground. Videos showed dozens of Russian armored vehicles destroyed. The scale of the offensive suggests the Kremlin is trying to turn the tide Trump. The city under attack is close to the capital of

the Russian occupied Nanetsk region. The federal judge overseeing the election interference case against former President Trump in Washington has issued a limited gag order. ABC's Andrew Dimbert says Trump is now barred from making statements that target prosecutors, possible witnesses, and the judge's staff. Judge Tanya Chutkin, saying, I cannot imagine any other criminal case in which the defendant is permitted to call the prosecutor deranged or

a thug. I will not permit it here. But the judge will still allow Trump to criticize President Biden and the Justice Department, and he can still make claims that the case is politically motivated. Trump's lawyers argued the order would unconstitutionally hinder his political speech. Hey, before we get out of here, got to make you aware of this one. Did you know that shohey Otani is going to be a free agent in a couple of weeks. So the

Dodgers apparently have their eye on him. There was talk earlier this season that maybe they were going to try to bring him over, but then that kind of went by the wayside and Otani said no, I'm sticking with the Angels. But then he got injured and now it's up in the air again. So there are projections that he could earn a half billion dollar contract five hundred

million dollars. The Dodgers apparently almost signed oh Tani out of high school, but then he decided he wanted to play in Japan first, and that's when he really developed the hitting and the pitching thing. Dodgers are considered front runners to sign oh Tawny this time around, so we shall have to wait and see fun to have a great picture like that.
