You're listening to KFI AM six forty wake Up Call with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio app, k Fly and kost HD two Los Angeles, Orange County about a good wag up, go yours Amy Kay, and the crowd goes wild because it's five o'clock straight up on Tuesday, July twenty third. This is your wake up call. I'm Amy King. We're live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. So whether you're listening on the radio or on the app, we're happy you're here. Hey, did you ever stop doing things

because of the pandemic? I mean, we all stop doing everything, but because of the pandemic, But did you not get back to doing the things you were supposed to do? So I have a little confession. I stopped going to the dentist. Cono you did too, I did? Okay, also remedied that I'm going to listen to your story, but well you can share yours too. So I went to the dentist yesterday and I'm like, oh what now, when was the last time you were here? And I'm

like, uh, I don't remember. And so we looked back at the chart. Yeah, it was twenty eighteen I was like, oh, I guess I forgot because I thought, you know, like once the pandemic started getting better, I was like, well, you don't want to go sit in a dentist's chair because you don't want to be breathing on everybody. And everybody was still wearing masks and that kind of stuff. And then I know

I've been thinking, oh, I should probably do that. I should probably do that, and then I you know, it goes in my should file. So I finally went yesterday. I'm going to be paying for that. I got two temporary crowns. So I spent the whole afternoon in a dentist's chair and oh my god, they beat me up. I don't remember hurting this bad. But so anyway, and I've been solely chastised because I need to floss more. So that's my new My new thing is I'm going to

floss because otherwise my teeth are going to fall out. Actually they were very positive. They said, oh, look, your teeth aren't going to fall out yet. It was great. So anyway, and you literally, yesterday me and my wife had the conversation of when the last time I went to the dentist. So the appointment has been made good. Quite nervous, Okay. I love my dentists. I've been going there for like twenty five years,

so perfect, but still well. I wish you good luck and God speak, thank you, and I hope you don't have to have any more crowns. Here's what's ahead on wake Up Call. The California Democratic Party has voted to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as it's twenty twenty four presidential candidate. California has four four, one hundred and ninety six delegates, the largest in the nation. As of last night, Harris has enough delegates to get the

Democratic Party nomination. The fire in Riverside that has destroyed six homes and damaged seven others was started by illegal fireworks. Security camera footage shows people running towards cars as the fire began on Saturday. The fires burned about five hundred and thirty acres. It's forty percent surrounded. The graffiti towers in downtown LA may

soon have a big, old sold sign on them. The Wall Street Journal says a local developer that was not named is interested in buying the abandoned towers that have been covered in graffiti fixing. Them up and finishing the project. The Ocean Wide Plaza development has been sitting ab abandoned for five years. At six oh five, it's handled on the news. The LA Superior Courts are

back in business. Bill's going to tell you about that. Let's get started with some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Well, that didn't take long. Vice President Harris has secured the support of enough Democratic delegates to become the party's nominee. A survey from the Associated Press says by last night, more than twenty five hundred delegates had told the AP or announced that they planned to support her at the convention. She needs nineteen

hundred and seventy six to officially get the nomination. The Democratic National Convention starts August nineteenth in Chicago. The LA Superior Court is reopening following a data breach. The nation's largest trial court system was hit by a ransomware attack. The security breach forced LA Superior Court to shut down all thirty six of its courthouses

yesterday and to cancel any schedule activities, including trials. After nearly four days of work to repair and reboot its online infrastructure, the court says it's ready for business again, though delays are expected. The Superior Court's announcement says the ransomware attack was not related to last week's widespread system outage involving CrowdStrike in downtown

LA. Michael Monks, KFI News, let's say good morning now to ABC's Karen Travers at the White House. So, Karen, I was going to ask you how her first little campaign stop went, but now I'm going to ask you about that she's already locked up the nomination. Basically, some news overnight and that the Vice President secured commitments from enough delegates to become the presumptive

Democratic presidential nominee. It was delegates in your state of California that sent her over the top her home state, and the Vice President said overnight that she looks forward to formally accepting the nomination soon, and this wraps up the process. Basically at this point, you know that there would be no contested convention, no floor fight, really no drama most likely at the convention, because anybody that was considered to be a potential rival to her for this nomination got

behind her. You know, the governors from the battleground states, any senators, everybody has thrown their support her way, and now the delegates are doing the same, so she has enough to get past that first round of balloting with the support. Now they're not all guaranteed. Things could go haywire. We've seen crazier things happen in politics over the last few weeks. So I was going to ask you about that. So if yeah, because they're committed,

they're not really committed. They're not bound like it's not like a legal designation. You know. It's interesting because because of the primaries, they were pledged to President Biden, so that was a different process because people had voted for President Biden in the primaries. Now though, because he's out of the race, these delegates then go and pledge commit their support to Vice President Harris. But they still can do what they want when they get to the convention.

That said, they're not likely to do that because the state party chairs and the elected officials in the state are rallying support, organizing and doing all of this to get this locked down before we get to Chicago in a couple of weeks. Okay, And there was talk of doing that voice call, but to get by on the ballot or are they going to still do that. Still looks like they're head in that direction to try and do that. I think that was the latest we had in early August, so it would

be done before the convention, you know. I think that was exactly what we were still looking at at this point in terms of a timeline. Okay, So yesterday Harris had a sort of a mini press conference. It was at what used to be Biden campaign headquarters and now it's Harris campaign headquarters, and the President joined in. He did, he called in. He is still in Delaware, is coming back to the White House today this afternoon after

getting over COVID. The doctor said yesterday his symptoms had almost completely resolved. But she was there to greet the campaign staff, thank them for their hard work. She acknowledged it's been a rollercoaster for them, but said, you know, over the next one hundred and six days, we're going to take

our case to the American people. We're going to win. The President called in, and these were the first remarks we've heard from him since he announced he was not going to continue his race, and he said the staff that he knew it was the right decision to make getting out. He said, I know that the news was surprising and hard for you to hear, but it was the right thing to do. He also told them he's not going

anywhere. He said, he's going to be out there on the campaign trail with the vice president out there campaigning for her and as he put it, working like hell. And I think this line was notable. Look for this to be a big theme for the president over the next three months. He said. The name has changed at the top of the ticket, but the mission hasn't changed at all. Okay, we'll be watching for that messaging.

Stay tuned, all right, Karen Travers, thank you so much. Thanks all right, let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. A fifteen year old boy shot during a street takeover in South la has died. The LAPD says two boys were shot at from a car leaving an attempted robbery in the Vermont Square neighborhood early Saturday morning. The boys drove themselves to the hospital. Police say three people were involved

in the alleged robbery, but there was only one shooter. Officials in Riverside say a fire that burned more than five hundred twenty acres and six homes in the city was caused by fireworks. Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson says an arson task force worked relentlessly since Sunday defined the cause of the fire that has destroyed and damaged homes and forced evacuations, which have since been lifted. We live in an area with dry brush, varied terrain, and high temperatures, making it

ideal for such disasters, Dawson says. Camera footage shows the possible fire starters leaving the area. We will ensure they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Let me repeat that we will prosecute those responsible. The fire is more than twenty percent contained. A man wanted in an almost twenty year old murder case out of Costa Mesa has been extradited from Mexico to face charges.

Investigators say Pedro Diego's Garcia tried to shoot at a guy to stop a fight at a kinsina in two thousand and six, but the gun wouldn't fire, But prosecutor say a bit later, Garcia did shoot the guy in the back as he ran away. Local and federal authorities spent years getting a warrant approved, then more years finding the guy. Garcia was arrested in January,

but it would take several more months till his extradition was approved. The man was returned to Orange County Thursday for a murder charge plus a felony gun enhancement. He faces fifty years if convicted as charged in Orange County. Corbin Carson kaf I News. Former President Trump's security mistakes were made at his rally in Pennsylvania, which ended with an attempted assassination. Trump told Fox News yesterday there was an officer who saw the guy with the gun a while before the shooting

happened. But I can tell you this just to go on the more positive side. The people on the stage were unbelievable and brave that they were all Secret Service that came running up. Trump says he's lucky he wasn't hurt, worse, or killed. He questioned how the shooter was allowed to stay on the roof for so long, saying someone needs to be held responsible for the slow reaction time. Online searches asking whether President Biden is alive have been trending.

Some are questioning why the president has not been seen since he was diagnosed with COVID and why his decision to end his reelection campaign was done. With a post on social media, Vice President Harris said yesterday the theory is baseless. Biden was on a phone call with Harris, as you heard Karen Travers telling us. She says Biden has been in isolation. He is expected to return to the White House today and then address the nation sometime this week.

The historic Westwood Village and Brewin movie theaters are shutting down. The Westwood Village Theater has been bought by movie director Jason Reightman, with backing from other major filmmakers like Steven Spielberg. Theater historian Scott Norton says the two separate theaters have operated together since the nineteen thirties, sort of like a multiplex. The logic would be, even if they're different owners, that eventually that's what happens here,

that they start operating them together. That's my hope. The Village Theater was bought in February with plans to renovate and reopen, but there's still no word on what will happen with the Bruin. Both theaters are expected to have showtimes until the final wrap this Thursday. Chris Adler KFI News. Tonight, the Dodgers take on the San Francisco Giants, with the first pitch going out

at seven o'clock. You can listen to every play of every Dodgers game on AM five to seventy LA Sports and stream all games NHD on the iHeartRadio app. Keyword is AM five to seventy LA Sports powered by LA Care for all of LA. The heat wave that has settled in on southern California, it's going to hang around for at least a couple more days. Excessive heat warnings are up until tomorrow night in the Antelope Valley and Foothills, the San Gabriel

Mountains, and the five and fourteen Freeway corridors. Temperatures in these areas could hit one oh six. Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign raked in eighty one million dollars in the first twenty four hours of her announcing that she's seeking the Democratic nomination, and she's already been pledged with the support of more than the nineteen

hundred and seventy six delegates needed to get the official presidential nomination. The Oscar Meyer Wiener Mobile, and I'm going to start that over because I said it wrong. The Oscar I'm gonna start it over because I said it wrong again. I'm gonna I'm gonna blame it on my temporary crowns. The Oscar Meyer Wiener Mobile will need some work because it crashed in Illinois. The driver of the twenty three foot long iconic hot dog vehicle lost control yesterday morning on a

highway in Cook County. The Wienermobile rolled over and rolled into a Hyundai. No one was hurt. At six oh five, it's handle on the news. A fire that's taken out a half dozen homes in Riverside, sparked by fireworks. Let's say good morning now to the host of How to Money on KFI. It's Joel Larsgard. Joel Hi Hi so u Kono is doing this, I do this and does this. We have side hustles, okay, and I guess we're not alone at all. No, in side hustle.

It's one of those things where you hadn't heard of the term fifteen years ago. It's it's come into vo but people did it right. It was moonlighting or whatever, so it was. It has been a part of that show Moonlighting. No, was it a good show. It was chrislus Oh, I do like Bruce Willis, but like this was only people did, right, you had maybe a second job, or you picked up some overtime hours

or something like that. But side hustles, because of the Internet, have really the term has changed, and then the way people approach shide hustles has changed. And the cool thing in some ways is it doesn't have to be like this all or nothing thing like oh, I'm scheduled twenty hours a week to go work at this location. It's more like, oh, I can, you know, hang a shingle for uber, and I can pick up five hours here and there when I want to. It's really kind of on

demand when I'm interested. And so because of that side hustle so have become more attractive, more people are participating. Bank Create just did a survey and something like a third of people, more than a third of Americans, say that they have a side hustle. I have no problem with that. The problem though, is almost all of those people who say they have a side hustle say that it's necessary essentially for them to be able to pay the bills.

So that worries me, Like I don't love hearing that people say, not only do I need my day job, but I also need this side hustle, and I think I'm gonna need it forever. And that's just because of the way the economy is these days. I mean, I think that's part of it, right, That is certainly something that we should talk about. I do think it's become harder to afford the classic American lifestyle and one income. The other thing, too, is we our wants and desires have

exceeded our grasp in so many ways. And so when we think about what we consider as normal in America these days, like it does seem like our desires have outpaced our income on so many levels. Like when you think about what even something like the simple car, think about what a Toyota camera looked like in nineteen eighty eight versus what it looks like in twenty twenty four.

It's a completely different machine, right. And so if everything that we buy and that we like, or a house, right, a house that was built in the same year nineteen eighty eight versus today, it's so much bigger, it's so much nicer. The hgt HGTV ification of our country, and so like our expectations have gone up, and that's kind of awesome that we're able to enjoy nicer things, but at the same time those things cost more, and so yeah, we compare a price of a house thirty years ago,

fifty years ago to the price of a house today. We're also not comparing apples and apples, or comparing apples and cucumbers or something like that, because they're very different things and one is clearly more expensive than the other other, largely because like, we can afford more, and we have poured more resources into earning more money so that we can buy the nicer stuff. Yeah.

But with inflation, though, I'm wondering if more people are doing it, not because their expectations and you know, their wants are higher, but just their needs, their basic needs. Yeah, you know, I mean, if inflation's up twenty percent in the last for you and roughly right, I mean, it's the rate is slowing, but prices are still up twenty

or more percent. For sure, you're making twenty percent less. Well, okay, you say that prices are up, but when you look at kind of the what the average the average person's salary increase has gone up at roughly that same amount, if not a little bit more. It's outpaced inflation for many many people. So yes, prices are up, but also incomes are up. I think the biggest thing I want to mention though, when we're talking about side hustles and people think, oh, I have to do this

in perpetuity. I'm never going to get rid of this thing. I always have to have two jobs in order to make ends meet. I think that that's a recipe for burnout for most people, right. And yes, at least it is kind of more of an on demand thing. It's not some sort of thing where you're working sixty hours a week and you have to all the time. But I would rather see people do a couple of other things they're going to have more long term benefit. For one, increase your skills

so that you can bring home more money to your day. Be willing to negotiate with your current employer, or say hey, what is it that I can do to increase my responsibilities and increase my take home pay here? Those are worthwhile discussions, and I think that's going to have more of a long term impact on your ability to build wealth and feel financially secure than having that side hustle in perpetuity. And the other thing is like work on starting your

own business. Oftentimes that over time will produce more wealth for you than having a side hustle where you're driving for Uber Eats or something like that, right, because the pay isn't going to go up commensurate to your skill level and the business you're able to build. So, yes, it starts off slower. You're not getting immediate income from it. Typically oftentimes it's a year or two before you reach any sort of profitability with the small business. But the

long term possibilities are just so much greater. Okay, cool, all right, So now then let's talk long term because we're talking. You found an interesting little article about longevity and how does that play into how to money? Sure? Okay, so I saw this article in the New York Times and longevity is all the rage. Everyone's talking about it. There's the liver Longer is all the rage. Yes, the Peter Attiaz book has just been this

like raging smash success and I love I love that. Like fitness and uh and thinking about living longer and not just living longer, but living healthier for longer is on the minds of more and more Americans, like this is great stuff that we should be talking about, and it's such it's so good for your mind and so good. Uh, it's it's just so good for your

whole you'll hold your whole persona to be a more fit individual. But the thing is, this article was kind of talking about all of these interesting ways that marketing and companies have gotten in on the longevity craze, and so I guess in my mind I was thinking as I was reading this reading this article that like, wait a second, to pick up on some of these things and to desire to live a healthier lifestyle, it doesn't have to break the

bank. So I think some people are like getting in on this and then they realize that they're getting fed all the Instagram ads like I guess I need the two hundred dollars pair of Hokahs to become a runner now, or I need these fancy supplements in order to have some like a healthy diet. And I think the truth is we kind of we build these things up in our mind and we think we need this, this and this in order to become

this kind of person. And the truth is, most of the things that are prescribed in something like a Huberman or a tea approach just to live a healthy life, or a whole lot less expensive and fancy than a lot of people want to make it sound so okay, so inexpensive. What are the

things? So? I mean, you don't need a fancy pair of shoes to go for a run, right, Like I don't necessarily suggest going barefoot through the streets, but you don't need some sort of fancy to I love that these fancy shoe companies exist, and it's great if you've got the money and you do want to buy the fancy shoes, but you just don't need them. Think about like basketball players back in the day least were commerce all

stars and they were okay, they played the game right. And I'm not saying it's not nice that there's not that there's better gear that we can have and stuff like that, but I guess just be careful when you're getting into some of these things, because what can be a really inexpensive hobby that keeps you fit and it's fun, can quickly get out of hand and you're like,

where did not my money go? Okay? And what about like things like the supplements Because you're right, you see him everywhere now like balance of Nature is a big one. But I looked at up one time and the vitamins are like eighty bucks. Yeah, so I think just and I'm not a nutrition expert, but I eat like a banana every morning, or maybe make like a little smoothie. And I'm not against maybe some of the protein

powders or something like you can get at Costco. Yeah, maybe toss that into your SMOOTHI or you're shake in the morning, Like, go for it. But so many of the things that we're being fed are an attempt to rip us from our money because we want to be healthier. And the truth is, you can do body weight workouts right. You can go on a run with a friend. There are free online workouts on YouTube. There's so

many free resources out there for us. If we're thoughtful and you get to get you're gonna get the same results of living longer and being healthier as you are if you're taking the really expensive supplements and you're doing all the above. I think so. And again, not a nutrition expert, not a longevity expert. It just makes me sad to think that people are saying, cool, I do want to live longer. I want to be healthier, but I feel like I have to spend all this money to do it, and

I just don't think that's the case. I like the way that you're thinking, And if you want to read it, it's a New York Times article on longevity and if you want to lengthen your money train, I like it. Joel Larsgard's guy to listen to, and you can listen to him every weekend Sunday noon to two right here on KFI. You can also follow Joel to get some great tips on how to money at how to Money Joel. Thank you, Joel Larskard, Thanks Amy. All right, have a great

week. Vice President Kamalai Harris has held her first on camera campaign event as a potential presidential candidate. She was on a speaker phone call with President Biden yesterday, who said that leaving the twenty twenty four race was the right thing to do. This was the first time the country's heard from Biden since he announced he was not running for reelection. The number of people riding Metro is up for the nineteenth straight month compared to last June. Hip is up from

this time last year. Metros is almost twenty five point two million people boarded buses and trains. In June, ridership is still almost fifteen percent lower than before the pandemic. Housing costs, food, and energy are on the minds of older Americans headed into the November election. A survey from Retirement Living dot Com said seniors first priority, regardless of party affiliation, is high housing costs. Crime, immigration, abortion, access, and climate change are other top

concerns for seniors. At six oh five, it's handled on the news. The Vice president has the support she needs to get the official nomination to be the presidential nominee. At five point fifty, ABC, Stephen Portnoy is going to tell us about the Secret services big fail in protecting former President Trump and

whether anyone is actually going to be held accountable. Right now, let's say good morning to ABC's Jim Ryan. Jim, Potentially millions of people are affected by the faulty software update sent out by CrowdStrike on Friday, and some are still feeling the effects. Sure Delta Airlines a lot of For some reason, Delta Airlines was affected more than other airlines, but of course every airline was

affected. I had a flight out of Milwaukee on Friday that was delayed for two hours because of the untangling of the mess that began early Friday morning. So yes, people are still feeling the effects of it. And in another way as well, the scammers are loose. Right, So every time something like this happens, and even when it's not happening, there are phishing attempts

out there, tech support scams. But every time an event like this happens, every time there's a CrowdStrike problem or something something of that sort, suddenly there's a plausible story to go with it. Right, So the tech support email you might get from someone posing as CrowdStrike would say, hey, you heard about our big problem on Friday, Well, your computer has been infected with something. We need to get in there and fix this. So you

get on the phone with them, with people you believe our CrowdStrike. In fact it's not, it's a bunch of scammers. You are asked to download a piece of software, any desk or team View or something like that, which gives them, the scammer, access to your computer. So while they're inside there, ostensibly repairing your computer or doing something updating, they're stealing all the files out of there, pictures and financial information, whatever else they can

find. And creating all sorts of aims. So just be very careful. These tech support scams are out there all the time, but I think it's safe to say that now they're especially pervasion because of what happened Friday. Yeah, so the computer issue itself isn't what necessarily made the computers vulnerable. It's the scam artists who are praying on the people who had their computers. Right.

The problem is being repaired. I mean, CrowdStrike is taking care of the issue out there regardless, and it's unlikely to affect at individual computers anyway, but it provides that sort of little air of plausibility or the believability of the store that goes with it now, right, because people may have been listening with half an ear. Maybe they they were very intently listening to what was going on with CrowdStrike, but now they have it in their head that

something can be done about it, and this fake person comes along. You see these emails all the time, or I'm sure you've gotten an email amy from geek Squad or from Microsoft or from someone saying your computer's security is about to expire, your warrant is going to be out, You better call us and so, and it's the same thing exactly. Okay, it makes me so grutified. I get. The one that I get all the time is and this is an ongoing one. Like you said, there's stuff that's just

going on all the time. Is the PayPal. Hey, Amy, we've requested a payment of nine hundred and seventy seven dollars. Yeah, this isn't right. Call us yep. So you know what happens if you've called them, Have you called them? No good, because if you do call them, they're going it's going to be somebody, usually not in this country, usually in South Asia or somewhere. You'll be on the phone with them. Let's say I'm with PayPal. Yeah, we owe you this refund for nine

hundred whatever dollars, and they'll get into your computer. They'll spoof the screen so that it looks like it's your bank account. They'll add in all sorts of extra money, and then they'll say, oh, wait a minute, you need to get that money back to us. We accidental, they gave you too much. And then it's up to you to go get gift cards or something ridiculous like that to pay back the money that you don't owe them in the first place. Yeah, it's inferiorting. It makes me want to

eat sprinkles. I'm right there with you, Jim Ryan, thank you so much. Hopefully you'll help some people from becoming victims of the scams and watch out the fake CrowdStrike websites. CrowdStrike itself has published a list of thirty spoofed websites okay that people are maybe you know, falling prey to Okay, and we know that this kind of thing is going to happen again. Just you got to have your You have to have your guard up all the time, keep your ears on, keep your head on a swivel. All right,

Thanks Jim Ryan, to you. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour news room. Vice President Harris has received the endorsement of her US Senate replacement, Senator Alex Padilla was in Commerce for an event and took time to make it clear he wants to see Kamala

Harris as the next president of the United States. I'm very excited. We've got a lot of momentum looking forward to the convention in Chicago, and I'm looking forward to winning in November. Thedia was appointed to the Senate after Harris was elected VP. He was previously California's Secretary of State, Estate Senator, and served on the La City Council. His endorsement is one of many that

have piled up for Harrison. Sunday, in Commerce, Michael Monks KFI News, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has threatened to beef up security on the border. He said he's going to need to triple the border wall, also razor wire barriers and National Guard troops at the border now that President Biden has endorsed Vice President Harris to be the Democratic nominee for president. Three years ago, Biden

made Harris the borders are millions have crossed the border illegally since then. Fire the its burned about three hundred thirty acres in the Angelus National Forest above Glendora is fifty five percent surrounded. The fire was reported Friday afternoon in the area of Glendora Mountain and East Fork Roads. It quickly spread near popular camping and hiking areas. By Saturday morning, the fire was burning toward the Sheep Mountain

Wilderness. A heat advisories in effect for the area beginning Thursday, with temperatures expected to reach one hundred and ten. Winds are expected to gust between twenty five and forty miles per hour through Thursday. A new one point six million dollars fire truck at John Wayne Airport uses environmentally save firefighting foam without forever chemicals.

It is a beast of a machine, mostly fire thirty Engineer Mike Ketelson says the CRASH three also carries dry chemicals for flammable liquids and more water capacity than a typical fire truck. We also had what was called a piercing tip. I can flow water foam or halotron. So we have an aircraft has a fire inside, we can pierce through the skin and extinguish the fire without even going inside the aircraft. He says. All trucks at JWA will have

the environment totally safe firefighting foam by the end of the year. Official said last week. The truck is also equipped with high tech tools to quickly get passengers away from an airplane fire. In Orange County, Corbin Carson camp I news La Mayor Bass is headed to Paris. She'll be part of the delegation

of the Presidential Delegation for Friday's Olympic Games opening ceremonies. The delegation will be led by First Lady Jill Biden. While in Paris, Bass will be meeting with business leaders to discuss the twenty twenty eight Summer Olympics being held here in Los Angeles. Today is Peanut Butter and Chocolate Day, a day to celebrate one of the most iconic culinary combos. It's not known when the two tastes first came together, but the combination was made popular in the US through Reese's

Peanut Butter Cups. These were first out in nineteen twenty eight. And if peep and chocolate isn't your thing, you can celebrate National Vanilla ice Cream Day, which also falls on July twenty third every year. And speaking of peanut butter and chocolate and Reese's, have you seen the Reese's Peanut Butter Metal just

in time for the Olympics. You know how they do the pumpkins at Halloween and they do the weird little Christmas tree shapes at Christmas while they're medals for the Olympics again, opening ceremonies happening this Friday, I think I should go get one to celebrate. Vice President Harris is headed to Wisconsin for her first

official campaign rally. She campaigns for president. Harris's campaign has raised more than one hundred million dollars since Sunday afternoon, when President Biden dropped out of the race. She has the backing of Democratic officials and political groups. LA Superior Courthouse is set to reopen today. The courthouses have been closed since Friday after

its network computer systems were impacted by a ransomware attack. Presiding by Judge Samantha P. Jesner says a cyber attack happened on Friday, resulting in the shutdown of nearly all systems to contain the damage. If you're flying Delta, it might be a couple more days before you can get on board. The airline has canceled more than four thousand flights it works to recover from a global computer outage Friday. Delta says it's doing everything it can to get back in the

air. We're just minutes away from handle. On the news this morning, Hunter Biden has dropped a lawsuit against Fox. Right now, let's say good morning to ABC's Stephen portnoy So. Stephen Congress was looking for answers to the failure of the Secret Service on the day former President Trump got shot at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Did they get them? Not the answers they were

seeking. They did learn a bit, but there was so much more that members of Congress on both sides of the aisle asked that Kimberly Cheadle was not able to answer that. It left them frustrated, and by the end of the hearing it led to calls from Democrats as well as Republicans for the Secret Service director to resign her office, and late last night, South Carolina Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace entered a resolution on the House floor for the impeachment of Kimberly

Cheedle. This morning, the House leaders of both parties say they're going to establish a bipartisan task force, essentially a new committee that will have subpoena power and make recommendations for reforms. This statement from the House Speaker and his Democratic counterpart of King Jeffreys, cites shocking security failures and they need to move quickly

to find facts and ensure accountability. Here's what they learned yesterday. They learned that the local swat team spotted the gunman on the roof eighteen minutes before the shooting, and that Secret Service received anywhere from two to five, strangely on specifically, anywhere from two to five alerts about a suspicious person before the first shot was fired. Now, Kimberly Cheatles said that if the detail had been told that there was a threat, they never would have brought Trump onto the

stage. But there's a difference between a suspicious person report, which comes in all the time, and the report of a threat, which is far more rare and more serious, and so there is a delineation there. She also said that the Secret Service did not deny any request for additional security at Butler PA, that the assets that were requested for that day were given, which

Rom's other questions, what do you mean the assets that were requested? And does it suggest then that there are other times that the Trump campaign has requested assets that you haven't provided. There were questions about whether the Secret Service flew a drone overhead that might have spotted the man on the roof. No answer given there except to say that there was some sort of over overflight or overwatch

or something like that that indicated there was aerial surveillance. Kimberly Cheatle said that she would like to know answers to some of these questions as well, which the members didn't find satisfactory. Because she's the head of the agency, you'd imagine she has access to this information, and she said that she was not

able to provide it because she didn't have it herself. She ultimately called it the most significant operational failure since the attempt on Ronald Reagan's life in nineteen eighty one. Well, by the end of it, even though she said she takes full responsibility, she'd turned down calls to resign. Let's see what today, tomorrow, the rest of the week brings. Okay, So if they wanted to push to get her out, what are the ways that she could

be removed? You mentioned impeachment. Would that pull her from office? Well, that's a long and drawn out process that requires a vote in the House and then ultimately a trial in the Senate and the two thirds vote to convict. Now, the easier path is for the president to say the easiest path of all is for Kimberly Cheetle to say, I acknowledge the situation, I will resign A bit harder still, is the president terminating her employment, But

that also is pretty simple. The Secret Service Director serves at the pleasure of the President and does not require Senate confirmation out that that matters either. But the point is the President could fire her at any moment, but there's been no indication that that's going to happen. And didn't She also say Steven yesterday that it's going to take like sixty days to get the report on what happened, which is unsatisfactory to members of both parties. And it's why you see.

Look, the Department of Homeland Security under alle Jundra Maiorcis is initiating some sort of blue ribbon panel to review it. The House is about to vote to establish its own committee to review it. And the question is, you know, how much longer And it really is a matter of time. I think how much longer will Kimberly Cheatle remain in the role? Yeah, well, I think one thing that we learned. I didn't watch the whole hearing, but I did watch large chunks of it, and she is really good

at not answering questions. If that's a skill she has it. Yeah, all right, Steven Portner, I thank you so much for the time and information. You bet, all right, Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. More and more people are riding Metro.
