You're listening to KF I Am six forty wake Up Call with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio app KFI and kost HD two Los Angeles, Orange County. And it's time for your morning wake up call. Here's Amy King. It's five o'clock, straight up. This is your wake up call for Thursday, July eighteenth. Good morning, I'm Amy King, got my coffee ready to go. Hey, you know how I told you you guys said I broke my toe while I was on vacation. It's been healing quite nicely.

Doctor said it's going to be six weeks and I'm about two and a half weeks in. And you know how when things stop hurting, you forget that you're injured. I was doing some work around the house yesterday, doing a little vacuuming. Yeah, I kind of forgot about my toe. I think I've reinjured it. Ah. Anyway, Day three of the r n C, the gold Star families of the thirteen soldiers killed in the withdrawal of

Afghanistan took the stage last night. Wow. That was powerful. And you know they're at the RNC, so they're going to be talking favorably about Trump and not about Biden, but they said that they barely even got a passing glance from President Biden, but that former President Trump met with them and grieved with them. And the crowd starts chanting, never forget, and the cameras show people in the audience crying. It was just really, really I thought

powerful. And Riverside County Marine Hunter Lopez was one of the people killed. His parents were there. The parents worked for a Riversid County Sheriff's office, and they say they have gotten silenced from the Biden administration. And then they've read the names of all the people killed because they said that the president never said their names, so they did, and oh man, it was heart wrenching. It was just it was really powerful though. And so the last

night of the RNC is tonight. Of course, Trump's going to take the stage. I'll be watching j d. Vance accepted the VP nomination last night. We're going to be talking more about that with ABC. Stephen Portnoy before the end of the hour, got lots of head on wake up calls. So let's get started. Former President Trump's, as I mentioned, we'll take the stage in Milwaukee Milwaukee to formally accept the GOP nomination for the White House.

It'll be the first time he addresses the nation since surviving an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania. California Representative Adam Schiff has become the highest profile Democrat to call for President Biden to drop his reelection bid. The DNC convention is in two weeks. Nearly two of Democrats in an ap Nork Center for Public Affairs poll say President Biden should step aside and let his party nominate a

different candidate on location. Filming is down by more than twelve percent in LA. TV and film production continue to face challenges. A report released yesterday say the actors and writers' strikes had a huge impact on production in the last year. The oc fares getting underway tomorrow, and it wouldn't be fair without Chicken Charlie. We're gonna be talking with him about his latest and greatest concoction. That's coming up at bottom of the hour at six oh five. It's handled

on the news. Signs that President Biden may be becoming more receptive to the idea of stepping aside. Let's get started with some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour Newsroom. The White House's President Biden has tested positive for COVID nineteen while campaigning in Las Vegas. ABC's Mary Bruce says that trip was cut short yesterday as Biden boarded Air Force one and returned to Delaware. President appears to be feeling the effects of this COVID diagnosis. He's moving

a little a little bit slower getting his way down the stairs. Then when he makes it to the car, it doesn appear he needs a little bit of help, extra help from the Secret Service just to get it in the vehicle. The White House is Biden does not have a fever and has been given a dose of the medication pex Looavid, the director of the Secret Service, has spoken with some members of Congress about the protection of former President Trump

at the rally in Pennsylvania. Wyoming Republican Senator John Barrosso said during a closed door Senate briefing yesterday that the director of the FBI told lawmakers agents identified the shooter as a suspicious person an hour before the assassination attempts. They lost sight of him. He had a rangefinder, he had a backpack, the kind of things that would be suspicious to anyone. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheedle,

has admitted mistakes were made. The shooter killed one person Saturday and hurt three others, including Trump, before he was killed by agents. The House is expected to hold a classified briefing next week. Barasso and Senator Marsha Blackburn from TENNISEE confronted the Secret Service director about the reported failures by her agency while they

were all at the Republican National Convention last night. Cheadle told them it was not the time for questions before she left the floor with her agents and retreated to a closed room. Netflix shows have received a whopping one hundred and seven Emmy nominations, with Ripley and Reindeer Games leading the way. FX got ninety three nominations, twenty five of them for Showgun. Netflix's The Bear got twenty

three nominations. The Emmys will be awarded on September fifteenth at the Peacock Theater in la You can see a complete list of the nominees on our website at KFIAM six forty dot com slash Emmys. It's five oh seven on your Thursday morning wake up call at say Good Morning Now to ABC's Jim Ryan So Jim.

The chorus for President Biden to step aside is growing. Yes, Adam Shipping the latest and highest profile Democrat in Congress to recommend that Biden step off the ticket allows somebody else to take over, Kamala Harris or someone else altogether. And yes, but that's also the conversation here in Milwaukee at the Republican National Convention. Amy, I've been asking some delegates their thoughts on that should if Biden were to step aside, does that help or does that hurt Donald

Trump? I think universally folks feel that it would hurt it because Joe Biden seems like an easier opponent than others. And in that way, perhaps the Trump campaign and the Republicans did themselves no favors by having the debate last month. It showed some weakness there on the part of Joe Biden fairly early on. May have given Democrats a chance to change horses midstream. Yeah, I would think the enemy, you know, kind of scenario, Yes, the

one who's been on TV and has the highest profile. So sure. I think that's why Kamala Harris's name comes up so often from the stage here at the RNC, because the assumption I believe is that you know that Kamala Harris would step in and take over as the presidential candidate if Joe Biden were to step off. And so the RNC is trying to lay some groundwork here, get the statements, its thoughts and criticism of Kamala Harris out in the open

before the Democrats have a chance to do that. Yeah, and Kamala Harris is kind of the foregone conclusion. But there are other names being bandied about, including Gavin Newsom. You know, I think people have been talking about him as a potential Democratic candidate. So sure, I mean, there are all sorts of names out there, but I think Kamala Harris probably is the one that makes the most sense and maybe logistically makes the most sense to the

Democrats. Yeah, So the question is can Biden rebound? I mean, now he's been he's off the campaign trail because he's got COVID again, and the polls are showing more and more that his support is slipping, and so

is the funding. We're hearing from some Democratic fundraisers who say that those contributions, the campaign contributions, who are starting to dry up as people see this this apparent weakness on his part, And interestingly, yesterday the campaign was hinting or President Biden himself was saying that if there were some health crisis, then yeah, he would consider moving aside, either as president or at least as

the candidate of the Democrats. And here comes this COVID diagnosis yesterday from Nevada. So yeah, I think things are sort of heading in that direction perhaps, but that's not a I mean, that's not a devastating diagnosis anymore. I mean, you know, that's a cold basically, more or less, right, I mean, unless you're eighty three, eighty eighty one years old? Right, yeah, true, to be more serious. So that's I

think one consideration there. Okay, and you're still hanging around outside the convention? Yes? Are they letting you go inside yet? Are you still outside? My assignment is to talk to delegates and talk to alternism those folks. I can get into the un credentialed. But Stephen Portanoy has one side of the story and I've got the other side, and so we're kind of doubling up that way. I love that. So tell me, how how is it? What's the vibe? How is it going? Good? Bad?

Are people excited. I think it's what the Republicans were expecting. And I'm talking with delegates about JD. Vans yesterday. Most interesting comments, I think came from a delegate from Texas. She said that his being a former never

Trumper is actually a good thing for the campaign because if JD. Van's as harsh as he was, and he had some of the harshest criticism and I mean American hitler is what he was calling Donald Trump a few years ago, and for him to come around to kiss the ring and now to be sitting there on the ticket with Donald Trump, she believes that that may bring other never Trumpers on board as well. So it's an interesting theory, you know.

Maybe it's seeing the silver lining there that she says that because he was so ardently anti Trump and yet has made this big turnaround one hundred and eighty degrees, that others inside the party might feel the same way, including supporters of Nicki Haley. Yeah, I mean, it is kind of an interesting story. He didn't he didn't just at least for what I can tell,

he didn't just flip flop. He basically said it took a while. I didn't know the guy I didn't think he could do the job, but then watching what happened, it changed his mind, so right, And of course that was eight years ago too, and that's a long time Nicki Haley.

It's more like four months ago that she was coming down hard on Donald Trump as she tried to get the nomination, and now she's had this transformation so well, except at the convention she didn't she said she fully supported him, but you could tell that she was like, you know what, I don't. I still don't agree with the guy on a lot of stuff. Right. Well, she had to say that too, and I think again that's sort of a way of easing others into the thought that, Okay, I

could probably support that. If Nicki Haley can support him, then then why not you know others? So yeah, I think you're right. She did kind of qualified by saying we don't agree on everything, but I'm fully supporting him. Where she's saying it through gritted teeth, I don't know. Maybe maybe okay, final night tonight, big night, Yeah, Donald Trump himself. Will he take off the bandage? That's what I'm thinking. Maybe he'll take off the bandage during his speech, but that would be gross well,

it'll be interesting to see how bad the injury is, you know. He apparently his son said that he didn't even need stitches, so how bad could be. Others around the convention here have been wearing white bandages on their right ear and solidarity really prevent tump. That's the fashion statement. Migah, hats ends all right, white bandages? All right? Well, Jim Ryan, thank you so much. Always a pleasure to talk to you. We'll chat with you soon. All right, let's get back to some of the stories

coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. A guy who led police on a chase from Hawthorne to Culver City had a woman and a month's old baby in the car at the time.
