You're listening to Wake Up Call with Jennifer Jones Lee on demand from KA five a m. Six forty. Good morning everyone, Monday, June fifth. Stocks are flat. I know we're not actively trading in a pre market trading. Stocks are flat. Everything seems seems kind of flat. We had a nice Saturday around the south Land. I think saw some sun for the first time in a while in the morning, and then Sunday Marine Layer was back.

That happens today is June the fifth. By the way, nineteen sixty eight, Robert F. Kennedy was shot and killed at the Ambassador Hotel here in Los Angeles. That hotel no longer exists. Also today, I was looking up hound Dog. Elvis Presley launched hound Dog today on the Milton Burrows Show, and I don't know why that struck me, as like I hadn't thought about Milton Burrow in a long time. I don't think anybody has, except for my fourteen year old daughter who's fascinated with him for some reason.

So I can't just describe. We're gonna check everything we have. I was just looking through the stack for a handle on the news at six o'clock, and we have a full stack of news to get into, so let's start with some headlines and then we'll get into some of our wake up call interviews. Labor disruptions continue today and are effectively shutting down the ports of LA and Long Beach. Now combine, those two ports handle about forty percent of the

maritime loads in and out for the United States. Oakland is also being disrupted right now, as well as a couple of other smaller ports. LA unified schools are extending the school year and restoring a three week winter break. Been reporting that over the weekend and just in time for the summer travel and driving season. Crude oil prices are soaring this morning because Saudi Arabia says it will cut production of an extra one million barrels per day starting in July. That's

going to be the lowest production daily level in several years. Today is the day when the federal government would have defaulted on its debts and not pay the bills. ABC's Karen Travers will join us in just a few minutes lie from Capitol Hill to discuss winners and loos from the Fiscal Responsibility Act. Let's start with some of the stories coming out of the KFY twenty four hour newsroom and

of course, as always, we lead local. As the WGA enters its thirty fifth day of striking, the Director's Guild of America has reached a tentative deal with Hollywood Studios. The three year agreement was made Saturday between the DGA, Hollywood Studios, and major streaming companies. The directors say they wanted global streaming residual payments based on subscribers watching content. They also wanted wage increases and

an agreement on artificial intelligence usage. Contract negotiations between the WGA and the studios start again on Wednesday. Some residents and actins say they're against the proposed construction of a lithium storage facility near their town. They say the battery farm would be the largest in the world, imposes a danger to the residents of acting in Agua Dulci. They'll be all located on the east side of our town, near the Vincent See substation. Ruthie Brock heads up a task force aimed

at stopping the project. She led her alley of about two hundred on Saturday. She says the batteries would provide backup power to the grind and we'll receive none of that power, yet we're being asked to shoulder all the burden. Rock says. The battery farms have been known to spark fires and release toxic chemicals in the air and in the water table. Steve Gregory, King of Fins, rescuers say they have not found any survivors from an unresponsive plane that

flew over the country's capital and crashed. US officials say a military fighter jet scrambled to respond to the small plane and caused a loud sonic boom yesterday heard across the DC metro area. It's unknown why the plane crashed or how many people were inside. The FAA says the plane took off from Tennessee and was headed for Long Island. Researchers that you see San Diego say they've uncovered a groundbreaking process that accounts for up to twelve percent of the oxygen on Earth.

Here's the science. He part you see San Diego researchers combined cutting edge microscopy techniques and genetic tools to uncover how a proton pump enzyme promotes photosynthesis and several species of phytoplankton. Huh. Here's the cool part. Take ten deep breath. Researchers say one of those breasts was made possible by tiny cells in the ocean carrying out minute chemical reactions for millions of years, shaping the trajectory of

life on Earth. This could improve biotechnical approaches to photosynthesis, carbon sequestration, and biodiesel production. Corbin Carson kf I News on the line with this ABC's White House correspondent Karen traversed. Okay, first the House did it, then the Senate did it, and then President Biden got hands on the Fiscal Responsibility Act. The country's going to pay its bills after all. Good morning,

Karen, Yeah, good morning. Today would have been the x state June fifth, where the Treasury Department said they would not have been able to pay their bills unless the Congress and the presidents and to law legislation to raise the debt limit. That did happen. The President signed it over the weekend, no great fanfare, didn't bring in reporters to do it, but they did

release a video about it, So that's it. The debt limit now is suspended through January first, twenty twenty five, which means we will not be talking about this during the presidential election year, which is a good thing. When the President gave remarks Friday night and talked about the bipartisan nature of this and also said, you know, not everybody got everything they wanted in Washington, but the American people got what they needed. He said, we averted

an economic crisis and an economic collapse. Let's talk about the politics about this for a second, because you said right there that they released a video. This should have been a bit of a victory lap. According to some media reports, it is not having a reporter scrum, something this White House seems

to be using as a policy. I think for this, well, first of all, the President delivered remarks Friday night in the Oval Office, so significant to do it like that, and that was his first Oval office addressed, and I think they wanted to show the magnitude of this legislation and averting this type of crisis. But in terms of a victory lap, I think it was notable last week that the White House was going to great lane to not take a victory lap. We were all trying to get them to weigh

in on that. I asked the Budget Director last week if the President felt he came out ahead and negotiations and she said, you don't know. The American people won in the negotiations, and when you start talking about Republicans and Democrats winning, then you've already lost. Now that was before the vote, and I think there was certainly a very careful effort to not disrupt any fragile

vote counting. If the President was seemed to be spiking a football ahead of the vote, you might end up having more Republicans, and maybe there some Democrats say forget it, we're out, because everybody the tone would have changed. But even afterwards that didn't change. From the President. There was no I won this. I got McCarthy. In fact, he went to IoT very notable length to talk about the relationship that he and McCarthy had, that

his team had with McCarthy's team. The thing we don't hear a lot in Washington talking about how they got along, how straightforward, honest, and respectful both sides were. The President said, both sides operated in good faith and kept their word. It seems like a temporary reprieve when it comes to partisan politics. Any other what are you watching for this summer? Any political potholes that we might want to keep an eye on as we go into the summer

months. Yeah, I think the next big thing, big big thing is the government funding bills. Now, Congress has to do that by September thirtieth. We will be talking about it in September because most likely they will not do it by September thirty if they never do it anymore. September thirtieth is

like these vague deadlines these days. That's the fiscal year. But they'll punt it short term thing and get it till December, and then we'll be talking about it again in December and whether or not they can avoid a government shutdown. I mean, I'm predicting all of this, but I feel like this is how we will likely play out. And this will be the next big

test then of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker and keeping his Republican caucus together. It will be a test of this bipartisan feeling that we had after last week and the President's relationship with McCarthy, because that's the next really significant thing that Congress would have to do. A lot of things the White House would like them to do, and Congress will do, but that's the big one. Right on maybecs, White House Correspondent Karen travers. Always a pleasure to speak with

you. Hope we can do it again soon. Have a great day. Thanks, Thanks, Thanks Karen. Let's get back to some of those stories coming out of the KFI at twenty four hour newsroom. Governor Newsom and Attorney General Banta are investigating a private jet that landed in Sacramento with sixteen migrants on board. Officials say the migrants were deceived into getting on the plane's Saturday after crossing the border into Texas. Bonta says he thinks the plane came from Florida.

We think that because there's documents that were given to the migrants to sign with the name of the state of Florida on it. It's there their voluntary transportation program. Banta says it's the same program used when migrants came to Martha's Vineyard in September twenty twenty two. Banta says the migrants are receiving legal aid services. Another drugs and weapons bust in San Bernardino. A San Bernardino Police Department traffic stop led to a search of a car that allegedly turned up two

pounds of meth and some ammunition. SPD's Marijuana Enforcement team also searched home connected to the traffic stop that resulted in the seizure of more than a kilo of coke, eleven pounds of marijuana, and multiple weapons. A team for Burbank is attempting to become the youngest player to qualify for the US Open at Hillcrest Country Club. Thirteen year old Jadensung has earned one of the last two spots in the thirty six whole qualifier by shooting an even par seventy two at a

qualifier last month in Brentwood. The seventh grader at Thomas Starr King Middle School could break the record set by a fourteen year old who broke the record in twenty twelve. The Hillcrest final qualifier is one of ten hell today in the US and Canada of the US Open begins June fifteenth. Many of California's beaches could disappear because of climate change. A new report from the US Geological Survey says between twenty five and seventy percent of the state's beaches could be eroded by

the year twenty one hundred. The report also says up to two thirds of California's coastline could be lost by twenty one hundred as well. Consumers in the US could see prices hikes again the summer in stores, online, and at the pump. ABC's Andrew Dinburt says Saudi Arabian announced it's significantly cutting the amount of crude oil it contributes to the global economy each day. Meanwhile, a

labor dispute could drive up prices for other goods. Some terminals at the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles were effectively shut down after contract talks seemed to

have broken down between the ports and the union representing dock workers. Dinburt says the oil regulations going to effect next month, and he says shipments from clothes to furniture and cars could be impacted by the port disruption, So that sticky inflation we've seen for the last eighteen months or so seems to be sticking around through the summer. Heavy rains, flooding and landslides in Haiti have killed at

least fifteen people, while officials search for eight others. Officials say nearly thirteen thousand, four hundred people were forced to leave as water cover hundreds of homes around the country. Haiti's Civil Protection Agency says more than seven thousand families reported damage over the weekend. Officials are assessing the damage to homes and crops. A Florida businessman says his family was on the crashed plane that caused chaos in

Washington, DC. The plane sparked panic yesterday after it violated restricted airspace and forced the military to scramble f sixteens at supersonic speeds, and that caused a sonic boom that led to phone calls to police and news desks and lots of coverage this morning as well. Senator Joe Mansion is not saying if he is planning on a third party presidential run. Speaking on Fox News yesterday, the West Virginia Democrat did say that people want to be governed from the middle rather

than from the far left or the far right. And your friendly neighborhood Spider Man is back on top of the box office. Spider Man Across the Spider Verse earned one hundred and twenty and a half million dollars in its first weekend in theaters across the US and Canada. The latest installment in the Spidy franchise scored the second biggest opening since the Super Mario Brothers movie and coming up in a little bit, we're going to talk about what's happening with a canine flu.

But first right now on the line. In a few hours, Apple is going to begin its annual Developers Conference, and the rumors have Apple finally launching its ARVR headset. ABC's Mike dubuskies online with us to discuss Apple and what we can expected. Morning sir, Good morning. Yeah, So this is WWDC. It's their Worldwide Developer Conference where they bring in developers from around the tech space to show off their latest wares. And you know we are

going to get a look at some softwares. iOS seventeen is expected to be announced today, which is going to underpin the next iPhone. We're going to get a sort of bigger MacBook Air, we're thinking, but as you alluded to there, Jason, yes, we're gonna get their long awaited VR headset. We're pretty sure today is the day. They originally thought they were going to launch this thing in twenty twenty, but obviously it has been pushed back

and back many times. But today it seems like it's going to be the day, and that's going to be a big deal for Apple. It's a new product category for them. We're expecting to be a big deal for the VR space as well. Yeah, no doubt, and we can unpack some of this, but it seems like as a new product line when one of your fans is the CEO, like Tim Cook, seems to be of this because he sees it as long term survival of the company. Do you think

this is getting significant coverage or I mean hype? I guess are going to go into another hype cycle around this, I you know, that is the question. Right, Like, if you take a look at the VR space in twenty twenty three, it's a far cry from what it was even two years ago. Right. Meta kind of kicked off this most recent hype cycle in twenty twenty one. They've renamed themselves from Facebook. They said everyone's going to exist in this Metaverse VR sort of world. Microsoft also invested in Active

Vision Blizzard, you know, for almost seventy billion dollars. There was all this money flying around, but in the years since it has kind of stagnated. Meta has not sold as many of its VR headsets as it thought it was going too. Microsoft and Disney, the parent company of ABC News, have walked back their Metaverse plans. Another interesting status that last year, in the first five months of twenty twenty two, metaverse startups raised just under three

billion dollars in VC funding. This year over that same period as about six hundred and sixty four billion, So not as much hype around VR in the metaverse as it once was. Right, So, there's a way to look at this as like Apple showing up really late to the party here. But also, when Apple jumps into a segment, they kind of legitimize it in some ways, right Apple. You know, smart watches and such existed before the Apple Watch, but people started thinking about them in different ways after Apple

got into that market. Right. That became a fashion statement in some ways. So, you know, there's a couple different ways to think about this. I think it's it's going to be a high stakes moment for Apple at the very least. Okay, that that makes sense, And you're right. Apple's corporate culture seems to be hurry up and wait. But you're right, it legitimizes things when it launches a product within a space. Now, one of the ways to look at this too is we just reported last week.

I think you and I may have discussed it on the air if not on email. One point one trillion dollars through the app store last year for Apple, So when they create an ecosystem, it's kind of a big deal. But consumer adoption of this what we anticipate to be a headset from Apple. The price point there's three thousand bucks. Yeah, yeah, that's what we're expecting. That's a lot of money. Yeah, there's no way around that.

I mean, this is basically so today's launch is basically for developers to get them hyped up so they'll start building stuff, right, And that is a big part of this, Right, they're launching this at their developer conference. It's not an iPhone event, it's not a VR event. This is the thing where developers sit there and think, here's how my app is going to work with this platform. Right, and Apple's never been in the VR space before. We don't know what their take on VR is going to look

like. Are you going to put this thing on and is it going to be a grid of apps. We just don't know until I believe ten am your time today what their expectation of that is going to be. But I think it's going to be sort of bought and sold on what those apps look like specifically the third party apps, right, you know, does an email client just exist as sort of a floating box in front of you in VR? That seems like sort of a waste of this three thousand and taller piece

of technology. Maybe it's a different experience. I think we're just gonna have to wait and see. And the big question is going to be how quickly developers are able to get on board and whether they even want to, whether they see a future in this space. So, yeah, that's going to be a big part of it. You have to think that with Apple's install base that they have at least enough audience to get developers thinking about this.

How does Meta position itself with its headset and what can differentiate? How can Apple differentiate? Right? So Meta has two headsets right now, right last week and potentially an attempt to get ahead of this announcement from Apple. This week, they announced a new Quest headset, the Quest three, which is their entry level device. It's five hundred dollars. They're keeping the Quest two

around at a lower price point. So they have sort of like lower end devices that work well that have passed through and you know, some of the features that people in the VR space really appreciate and like, and they've really focused these devices. People seem to like them. They also have the Quest

Pro, which is launched at fifteen hundred dollars. It was intended to be this sort of future of work device, but they haven't sold nearly as many as they thought they were going to, and recently knocked the price down to a thousand dollars. I think three thousand dollars is sort of an open question.

There are headsets that exist in the sort of high range. Valve is one of them that offers like a super high premium headset, but they're very specific devices, and I think the positioning of this is ultimately going to, you know, be something that Apple reveals today hopefully, you know, is this going to be an enterprise device? Is this going to be something that people use for work and video calls, or is this going to be a

gaming thing? Is this going to be something that they're pitching as like a replacement for a Mac or an iPhone. We just don't know yet, but yeah, it's an open question, one that I'm really curious about. Yeah, me too, And I know, well you and I are contributing to the hype cycle right now talked about this, but do you well, go ahead, Well, I'm just gonna say, you know, we are contributing to it. But this hype cycle has been going on for so long.

They started development of this thing in twenty fifteen, right, that's the rumors about this for a long time, and obviously the pandemic delayed it somewhat. But when you compare that to the iPhone, when Steve Jobs got up and launched that piece of technology, I think it's safe to say changed the world in a lot of ways. He said he had been looking forward to that day for two and a half years. The iPhone took two and a half

years to develop. This took eight. Like that. That's an interesting thing to put in context, you know, and you know leadership changes in the pandemic play into that, but you know, this is something that they've been focused on for a while. There's also been dissent within Apple about the success of this device. People walking away from projects or being fired from certain teams

because they didn't believe in the success of this. That's something we haven't heard about an applet product, and we haven't heard leak out of Apple in a very long time. Yeah, that's true. If ever really yeah, so if I mean, especially if you go back to Steve's days, I haven't covered a WWDC in a while. Are we going to get anything else today

other than the ARBR headset that we want to keep an eye on. Yes, And I think we are probably going to get the VR headset at the end of this presentation, because there's some questions about whether it's going to launch soon or whether this is just going to be like a preview for later launch in the fall. Maybe, But we are going to get other stuff today. iOS seventeen early On, which is the software that's going to underpin the

next generation iPhone. A couple interesting little tools here. A Personal Voice tool is expected, where you can create a synthetic version of your voice with just fifteen minutes of talking to it, which is kind of interesting. Also, if you turn your phone sideways when it's locked, it can become sort of

a smart home device. So little things like that that sort of ease of use updates to the way you use your iPhone, which is going to matter to a lot of the people who use iPhones, which is a lot of people. And we're also probably going to get a larger version of the MacBook Air, a fifteen inch version of the MacBook Air. The thirteen inch version

already exists. It's gonna, you know, pretty much be what we expect a MacBook Air to be in twenty twenty three, which means M two processor, really nice screen, that new sort of more squared off design that they've

been employing. And Apple has actually been working on a bunch of reef freshed max as well, although we don't expect to see these today, um, but we you know, down the line, we are probably going to get a refreshed iMac with a newer processor, and then refreshed thirteen inch MacBook Pro, which has kind of been sort of the odd duck of the mack line.

But um, they are working on their computers as well. We talk a lot about the VR headset, but I think the Mac and sort of the updates to their iOS is kind of going to be the thing that people see most of and interact with most of them. I'm with you on that one. I think the fifteen inch Air is a significant upgrade, not just not just with the screen size but also with the processors that that the M two is a really, really well reviewed chip, as was the M one.

I mean it's Apple's internally developed processor. They control the whole widget. Now. Um, it's it's just been like kind of the gold standard in terms of reviews when we were talking about sort of entry level laptops. But you know, still a very expensive device at that I know, but I'm going to get in line for that one. I'm not going to get in line for the headset, not at three not a three grand man. I mean, the book is going to be what about twelve hundred if you trick

it out right. I think the base uh like thirteen inch starts at a thousand dollars. It's the cheapest way into an Apple computer, I believe, outside of the yeah, outside of the Mac Minium. But yeah, so we're expecting maybe you know, tack on a couple hundred dollars. Twelve hundred dollars I think is safe to assume. But you get a really nice processor. It runs you know, your phone's apps, it runs iPad apps, it's really fast. Um, just just a really nice user experience. Not

gonna, you know, set the world on fire. I don't think that's like it's going to be a completely unexpected device or something that you know, does something that we're not used to it doing. But it's going to just work really well and work with your other suite of Apple problem because I hope you buy because because that one that lands you between an iPad pro and between

a MacBook Pro. It's right right middle, and I think that that could be your workhorse kind of laptop if you're into that, right, and it does put the sort of thirteen inch MacBook Pro that exists now that has the M two in a weird slot, right, it's got the older sort of design mine, it's got the you know, not as nice screen, like what is that thing for? Right? That's kind of like with the existence

of these bigger, sort of like targeted it's like lower end computers. It's like, I don't know why they're keeping that that computer around, but you know, we'll see. I don't know about what their plans are for the thirteen ch MacBook pros. The larger MacBook Pros are very nice computers, more computing power than I need. But you know the people who use them are really excited about that. Oh yeah, I love mine. I have to admit I do love mine. So yeah, anyway, Mike it's always a

pleasure to nerd out with you. Thank you so much for your time this morning. It's always really it's a good time, of course. Yeah, I appreciate it. Take care of it. Enjoy ww DC. That's ABC's Mike Tobuski. Ukraine's ambassador to the US is not giving an exact timetable, but she does say a counter offensive against Russia will happen soon. The ambassador told CBS's Face a Nation yesterday that Ukrainian President Zelenski will not make an official

announcement when it occurs. The Miami Heat put together a strong fourth quarter on the way to a one eleven to one oh eight victory over the Nuggets at Ball Arena in Denver. Miami outscored Denver thirty six to twenty five in the last quarter to even the NBA foundals at one game apiece. And it turns out that bam Adebaio remembered that he is bam Audebaio. The Barbie movie is causing a pink emergency. Director Gretti Girwerg says to create that creating Barbie Land

caused an international shortage of the signature pink. So out of luck if you were looking for that one for the summertime. At five fifty, we're gonna close our wake up call with ABC's Jim Ryan. There's a dog flu breakout. We're gonna unpack that, and because Jennifer would probably do that story for sure. Right now, we have ABC political Analysteve Roberts on the line. Former President Trump has some competition for the GOP presidential nomination. We're gonna unpack

that right now. Or does he have that? Would you say that he's in a scrum so far with the GOP presidential Well, look, you've got two people jumping into the race this week, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie former Vice President Mike Pence. They are in the race because they're making a bet. They're making a bet that the nomination is worth something, that Donald Trump is not invulnerable and Joe Biden is not invulnerable, and they're right on

both counts. Right now, it looks like Trump, of course, is leading the polls strongly. But they're making a bet here, which is that Trump's legal problems are only going to get worse, that he's going to be indicted from this handling of classified documents. He could be indicted in Georgia for trying to manipulate the electoral count there in twenty twenty. So they're thinking that, you know, if we've got to get in now, that if Trump is wounded, we got to be ready to step into that breach. And

that's the gamble they're both making this week. I know, I have to let you go. Prevailing thinking is that Trump has control of the Republican base, which candidate can peel off some base as it exists right now. Well, it's up in the air. You know. Right now you've got to say Trump's a favorite, but if he's weaker, you've got Governor de Santis of Florida out there saying, look, it's time for new generation of leadership.

Ronda Santras is thirty two years younger than Trump. Everybody focuses on Biden's age, but people don't focus on Trump's age. He's only four years younger than Biden. And we know throughout our history that argument of a new generation, whether it was Jack Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, it's a very powerful idea. And Ronda Santis has got that argument, and so he's

got to be the favorite. If Trump stumbles but these these other Republicans are in there because they think Trump can't win, and because they think Biden is vulnerable. And after Biden fell off the stage at the Air Force Academy last week and only reinforce the feelings in the Republican ranks that Biden is beatable. But Trump might not necessarily be the guy to do that. That's why they're looking at some other options. I appreciate your takes. Do you thank you

for your time? That maybec's political analy Steve Robberts. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI at twenty four hour newsroom. A man who jumped off a cliff and into a river in Mount Baldy has been killed. The La County Sheriff's Department says the thirty thirty three year old was hiking with a friend when he jumped about fifteen feet deep off Barrett Started road. The man's friend found him downstream and called nine to one one yesterday.

The friend and forced officials performed CPR until firefighters arrived, but he did not survive. LA ranks at the top of the list for highest number of dog attacks against US postal workers over fifty three hundred employees were attacked by dogs while delivering mail last year. The Postal Services Natashi Gargan says, even with

the best intentions, some dog owners don't properly secure their pets. Sometimes they get aggressive and they make their way out the front door, they make their way out the gate, and that has caused some serious injuries to many of our terrier Scurgan says customers can help mail workers by keeping dogs inside the house or behind defence and away from wines during delivery times. Chris Adler Ka Fine News. President Biden has signed the debt ceiling Agreement into law, averting a

default by the Treasury Department's deadline of today. ABC's Elizabeth Schultz says the newly agreed upon rules go into effect, including student loan payments. This three year pause that's been in place during the pandemic on federal student loan payments will now formally and at the end of August. Schultz says as many as forty five million borrowers are going to have to start paying back those loans this summer. The Federal student aid website says interest will also start again, but the rate

will stay the same. Yellow Yellowstone National Park rangers are warning visitors again to stay away from the wildlife. The tourist was find more than a thousand dollars last week and pleaded guilty to intentionally disturbing a newborn bison calf who had to be euthanized last month. Animal expert Jeff Corran says wild animals are unpredictable, so if people should just leave them alone. If you're getting in the way, not only you get injured, could the animal get injured or in trouble,

but you're actually impeding or hurting their chances for survival. Artificials say visitors actions have led to the endangerment of people and wildlife. The group representing shippers say operations at some marine terminals at the ports of la and Long Beach have been shut down following actions from the union representing doc workers. Ports were disrupted on Friday. It's unclear ports will be disrupted today. Looks like that is

happening. The two parties have been negotiating an agreement which would cover more than twenty two thousand workers at twenty nine West Coast ports. There are a previous agreement expired in July of twenty twenty two. The union says it's committed to bargaining a fair and equitable contract. We're going to wrap it up with ABC's Jim Ryan. Today's topic is a flu that is threatening dogs around the country. Good morning, Jim, Good morning. And there are a few states

that are more susceptible than others. There's a site actually called dog flu dot com Jason, and it shows that since two thousand and seven, California, Texas, Florida, New York. The big states are the ones that have been dealing with this more than smaller states. This canine flu that originated with horses, one strain of it did. The other one originated in birds.

So you have these two strains now that are infecting dogs. The center's that is these control and prevention, the one for the human for human people beings is watching this on the off chance that at some point in the future one of these flues might mutate itself. We've seen that happen with COVID, that it made mutate such that it could infect humans. So far that has not happened, but it's certainly something to watch out for. In the meantime,

keep an eye in your dog for symptoms of canine flu. Yeah, and what are those symptoms, Jim, I mean, I understand that there's an appetite aspect to it, any others appetite also a lot of what you're going to see in human flu, you know, watery eyes and a cough, fatigue, those sorts of things that affect human beings when they have the flu. Same thing with influenza in your dog. I have a family member who happens to be a vet here in LA I asked to her about this last

night. She said, the last time they saw something like this was in July of twenty twenty one. Do you have any indication if we're prepared for if something like accelerates with the contraction of canine flu, I mean, do we have enough you know, vaccinations? Well, yeah, I mean the vets again are handling that sort of thing. But there are little outbreaks going

on around the country right now. The City Annimal Welfare Shelter in Oklahoma City has had to close down for the second time since March because of this kind of infection that's floating around with dogs. It's highly infectious. It's something that if you have your dog in a kennel setting or in doggy daycare or even at the dog park that your dog could come into contact with this. So in the same way that isolating yourself from other people will help to prevent you

getting the flu, same with dogs. And so yeah, social distancing if you will, to try to prevent the speed of this. But yeah, there are almost all outbreaks going on somewhere in North Carolina, Oklahoma right now. A couple of states have never had a problem with it at all. North Dakota, Nebraska, they don't have an issue with this. That seems interesting. You mentioned I'm going to circle back before I have to let you go to the top. You mentioned a website right there. Can we revisit

that so people can look up their own data. Sure, dog flu dot com. Okay, dog flu dot com and it'll show the outbreak map. I did ask

my sister in law, who was a veterinarian here in LA. She used to be a vent for a couple of horse tracks in the area as well, and she says that the biggest problem we face now is a shortage of vaccinations due to manufacturing supply chain issues at her particular hospital, which is in

Burbank. We have enough for puppies to start their series of two flu vaccinations and to continue annual vaccinations for adult dogs who have obviously gotten the vacs, but they are not able to give adult dogs a start on that vax because of the low volume and inventory that they have, and she says hopefully the producers will be able to get it together soon and get back out there. Most boarding facilities and groomers are requiring those vaccinations these days, so checkout dog

flu dot com and you'll get some more information there as well. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Investigators have called the death of a man near a bus stop in downtown LA suspicious. Officials say the man's body was found on the ground near the Civic Center Grand Park metro station last night. The US Military has released a video of what it calls an unsafe maneuver in the Taiwan Strait by China. Officials say one of China's navy ships cut sharply across the path of a US destroyer Saturday, forcing the ship to slow down to avoid

a crash. The maneuver was happening while the US and Canada were conducting what they call freedom of navigation transit.
