You're listening to KFI AM six forty wake Up Call with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio app KFI and KOST HD two Los Angeles, Orange County. It's time for your morning wake up call. Here's Amy King. It's five o'clock, straight up. This is your wake up call for Friday, July nineteenth. I'm Amy King. Made it to Friday. Never a dull moment. I know for you, probably not a big deal, but that foreign president talked for a long time last night, so I got to bed
really late. I know, like nine o'clock. It's not for most of you guys, that's not early, but for me it is. But anyway, never a dull moment. As I just mentioned, we officially have a Republican presidential nominee. The Democrats could be without a presidential nominee. And we've got computer outages that are affecting airlines, banks, hospitals, media outlets world wide. We're going to be finding out more about that. Oh and it's the first day of the Orange County Fair. I mean, let's get our
priority stage, shall we. Here's what's the head on wake up call. Flights across the US have been grounded because of a computer outage. Delta, United American an Allegiant are all affected and flights out of lax A grounded, along with other flights out of southern California airports. You're being advised to call before you head to the airline if you're trying to fly today. American says it is resuming operations this morning. The outage is also affecting banks, hospitals,
businesses, media companies. The issue is with CrowdStrike software. The company says it's an update issue and it is not a cyber attack. We're going to get the latest on how it's going to affect you today from ABC's Mike Dbuski. That's coming up in just about like three minutes. Democrats at the highest levels have been pushing for President Biden to rethink his reelection bid, and even former President Obama has expressed concern to allies. Biden said Monday he hadn't
spoken to Obama in a couple of weeks. We're going to find out the latest on that with ABC's Karen Travers. That's coming up in about fifteen minutes. Donald Trump is officially the Republican Party's nominee for president In his first major speech since a failed assassination attempt, Trump described in detail the moment a shoot
or opened fire on him in Pennsylvania. We've also got cool stuff for the hot days ahead with the host of Home on KFI, Dean Sharp, that's coming up at bottom of the hour, and Jason Nathanson with ABC our entertainment guru is Getting Twisted. That's coming up before the top of the hour. Let's get started with some of the stories coming out of the KFA four our newsroom. We are one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for
all. Former President Trump has called fort unity while accepting his party's nomination for president at the Republican National Convention. The discord and division in our society must be healed. We must heal it quickly. As Americans, we are bound together by a single faith and a shared destiny. We rise together, or we fall apart. Trump also spoke last night about patriotism and a need for change. He acknowledged the assassination attempt against him on Saturday, saying he shouldn't
be alive, but is now more determined than ever. Cal Fire says there's been a lot of lightning activity around the state, and during the first part of this week, there were more than nine thousand lightning strikes in a three d period, which sparked fifty one wildfires around the state. Battalion Chief David Akunyas is despite the high number of lightning strikes, that is not the number
one cause of wildfires ninety five percent of them. All fires are cons by here, but Acunia says given the crazy weather behavior over the last few years, it's been more difficult to predict where fires might start. Acunia says Cowfire's goals to keep every new fire under ten acres. Steve Gregor kaaf I News arraging fire in downtown La has spread to several buildings. Fire crews were called out to the fire on South Kolder Street near Seventh shortly after two this morning.
One hundred and seventy firefighters are working to put the flames out. LA Fire says the roof of the initial building burning has partially collapsed. It's also burning near and a vacant apartment building. A proposal to expand the La County Board of Supervisors has received federal support. Congress Members Judy qu and Ted lu say they're in favor of an elected county wide executive and increasing the number of
supervisors from five to nine. They were joined yesterday by Alhambra City Councilman Jeff Maloney, saying it would be a step towards better representation of communities like Asian Americans. I can tell you that our API communities are yearning for adequate representation at all levels of government. The issue is expected to be on the November ballot and would be an effect in twenty thirty two in downtown La. Michael
Monks KFI News, let's say good morning now to ABC's Mike Debuski. Thanks for coming on with us at kind of at the last second, Mike. But we've got a worldwide technology issue. Yeah, it certainly seems that way. So what we're seeing this morning is a global outage of Microsoft Windows machines. It appears to be affecting thousands of computers amy including those at airlines, banks, hospitals, media organizations, including ABC News. So there's a varied
and wide range of industries and businesses that are affected by this. In terms of what this is, we're still starting to piece together exactly how this came together and what the issues are. There's a couple of them, but the primary one seems to be tied to a software update that went out to Windows computers from a company called CrowdStrike. This is a company, a cybersecurity firm
that Microsoft works with pretty closely. This was a faulty update, though, and it appears to send computers and servers into what's known as a recovery boot loop, essentially starting the computer up over and over again and not actually logging in this. Don't you get the blue screen of death or something? That is exactly what I was going to say. Yes, this is colloquially known as the blue screen of death, and that is really what's affecting a lot
of these computers. Now, CrowdStrike has weighed in. The CEO of that company, a man named George Kurtz, posted on social media not that long ago that a fix has gone out, that the computers that haven't been affected by this so far or haven't booted up yet, I should say we'll have
this fix and that they won't get stuck in this loop. There do seem to be some questions remaining about the what happens to the computers that are currently stuck in the loop, but it does seem like there are signs of hope here. A number of airlines issued a ground stop overnight, American United Delta among them. Number of those ground stops have now lifted as planes begin to
take off. But kind of just tracing how this came together overnight, Amy, we first got word of this in Australia, then in Europe and Asia, and then on the East coast, and now you guys on the West coast are beginning to wake up. With each new part of the globe that wakes up and logs on, we learn about new issues, So there could be like continuing issues here. You can also imagine sort of the logistical hurdles
here. In addition to you know, laptops and you know, personal desktops and that sort of thing that are affected by this, there's also servers right that a lot of businesses rely on. Here at ABC News, we have a number of them. You know, some of our computers run on servers in Orlando, which is where Disney is headquartered, the parent company of Abash.
So is Disneyland going to be affected. Unclear if Disney World or Disneyland are affected by this at this point, but it is seemingly a pretty widespread issue. Again, fixes are out there that they seem to be working on this. And what's more, separately from all this, Microsoft seems to be having its own kind of secluded issues with Microsoft three sixty five, which is
what we used to call Microsoft Office. So some people have reported trouble logging into Outlook, which is their email client, Excel and one note and one drive, other sort of Microsoft products seem to be experiencing some issues as well. Remains to be seen how related those two issues are, but that's also
happening separately from those. Okay, So I have a question for you, Mike, because you said that like ABC News has been affected by it, and I was driving in hearing about this, going, oh god, what if our computers don't work? But everything's working find here at KFI, and I'm wondering, are they rolling out that update because we use three sixty five. Are they rolling out that update all at once? Or could maybe it
come later? You know what I mean. So, with regard to the three sixty five issue, Microsoft has put out a statement they say users may be only to access various Microsoft three sixty five apps and services and that it's working on a fix. So I think it really like your mileage may vary, And I'll give you an example. This morning, I woke up and I logged onto my personal computer and everything worked fine. I could launch Outlook,
and I could get into everything that I would normally get into. And then I came into the office this morning and one of the computers in our studio is in the blue screen of death, and the one that I'm sitting in front of now is perfectly fine. So you know, your mileage may vary, but it does seem like things are getting better, slowly but surely. Great. Well, I know you got to go because you are a man in demand this morningcause everybody wants to know what the heck is going on.
So thank you for taking the time to talk to us this morning. We appreciate it. Mike, of course, Aby take care, okay, And as you mentioned airlines, so at this point we're hearing that there are no departing flights from any of the Southern California airports, so that could change at any moment, so do be sure to check before you head to the airport if you're dropping somebody off or if you're going to fly out yourself.
But we're hearing ground stop basically, and then the affected airlines were mainly Delta and United and Allegiant and American Americans says it's back online, so hopefully they're getting this figured out, but could be kind of a headache for a lot of people this morning. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. A man from Sierra Leone has been arrested on charges of smuggling people into the US. Abdual Contact was arrested in
Tijuana. He's being extradited to the US. Prosecutors say he's charged tens of thousands of dollars per person to smuggle people from Iran, Afghanistan, Who'zbekistan, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Somalia, Cameroon, Senegal, Ethiopia, and Egypt into the US. Trains and cargo are headed for a fast track. In Long Beach, khruz A begun building a new facility that will add one hundred and thirty thousand feet a new tracks where trains can be assembled. Long
Beach Mayor Rex Richardson says the new facility will have multiple benefits. It's a win win, clean, air less congestion and more union jobs for our communities. Officials say the more than one point five billion dollar facility will support five million containers annually, decreasing the need for trucks in the area. Officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project yesterday in Long Beach Blake Trolley kay if I news, I told you never a dull moment, And this morning we're just
getting word that Russia has convicted US reporter Evan Gerskevich of espionage charges. It happened after a very quick trial that his employer and the US have both said is a sham. New research shows babies born to women who got the COVID nineteen vaccine did not have higher rates of birth defects. ABC's Michelle friends And says. The research was published in the British Medical Journal. Results also showed birth defects that did occur were not linked to women who were infected with the
COVID virus in their first three months of pregnancy. Researchers say the study supports that the benefits of getting vaccinated outweigh the risks for both the mother and the baby. The team studied more than three hundred and forty three thousand babies born to women with an estimated start of pregnancy between March first of twenty twenty and February fourteenth, twenty twenty two. Hello, I haven't heard that one for
a while. Comedian Bob Newhart has died. His publicist says Newhart died yesterday in la following a series of short illnesses. New Heart was an accountant before he became popular in entertainment. He played psychologist a psychologist in The Bob Newhart Show in the seventies and then an innkeeper on New Heart in the nineteen eighties. He's also known for more recent roles on the TV show The Big Bang Theory, and in the Christmas Class Elf, he played Papa Elf. Bob
Newhart was ninety four. Airlines, banks, media companies, hospitals and others are being affected by a global technology issue. The outage that's apparently tied to a software update has grounded several airlines. Departing flights been grounded at lax Burbank. John Wayne American says it is back online, but Delta, United and
Allegiant are all grounded. You're being urged to call your airline before you head to the airport Russia has convicted and sentenced US journalist Evan Gerskevich to sixteen years after a spying trial that was held this week. Widely seen as politically motivated, Hunter Biden has asked a federal judge in LA to throw out the tax case against him because of the Florida judge's dismissal of the classified documents case against
former President Trump. Biden's lawyers argue that the same ruling applies to Biden that prosecutors were on constitutionally appointed. Hunter's tax trial is scheduled to start September fifth. Let's say good morning now to ABC's Karen Travers. Karen, more calls are coming for President Biden to step aside, even reportedly from former President Obama.
Yeah, you know, publicly. We heard yesterday from John Tester, Democratic senator from Montana, who's one of the most vulnerable Democrats in the Senate in his re election battle in a red state, and he said yesterday that while he appreciates the President's commitment to public service, he believes that he should
not seek reelection to another term. So that's notable, because you know, it's part of the big argument that we're hearing that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and the House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries are making to the President that they're concerned about the Democrat's ability to keep control of the Senate and potentially win back control of the House with him on the ticket,
because of the drag he might be to their candidates. So when you have some like Tester who's in such a fierce battle saying he shouldn't seek reelection, that makes people pay attention. Chris Coons, yesterday, the senator from Delaware who's a close ally of the President's, suggested that the president is reviewing his options. He says he's been asking for input, asking from those of us he talks to regularly, for advice, for input on the polls,
and for the opinion of our colleagues. And that follows what you mentioned. The Washington Post reported that former President Obama has told allies in recent days that he thinks that the president's path to victory has greatly diminished and that the president needs to seriously consider the viability of his candidacy. Okay, and so far are we getting any update from the Biden camp? I had heard that they kind of pushed back again yesterday and said, Nope, We're still in it
to win it. That is exactly what they're saying. They were calling some of the reports that were stating emphatically that the President was dropping out, calling it fan fiction, saying flat out wrong to some of the things that were
out there. But you know, while I say that there is no indication the president has changed his mind, and the senior official says that, you know, while they're all adamant the president is committed as ever, we're also told he is more receptive to hearing out calls for him to end his candidacy, and that he's even asked for polling on how his vice president, Kamala
Harris would do in a head to head matchup against Donald Trump. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has privately told some House Democrats she believes that the President is more receptive to these calls for him to step aside, and that those conversations could push him to make a decision soon. Well, and we're hearing rumblings that could happen this weekend. That's what a lot of rumblings I think are
on social media. I do think it's important to note that the president has COVID right now, and you know, yesterday his doctor said he is still experiencing mild symptoms. It is Friday. He tested positive on Wednesday evening, so today is just you know, his day three, and we're told he's exhausted, so he's recovering operating from that. It's just hard to imagine some
major thing while he is still dealing with COVID. Yeah, because I think whatever the president wants to do, he's going to want to speak to the American people about this. I just think he's got to just be feeling like things are piling on. I mean like he's got these calls and then more people and more people, and then he's got COVID and it's just and then he's he has to be off the trail because he can't do anything. I
would imagine it's incredibly frustrating. He's still being president too. You know, yesterday we had a briefing with the National security spokesman John kirbw' said the president was getting briefings yesterday, he was still getting updates on national security matters, and you know, we were also told he was on campaign conference calls yesterday too, so if the work doesn't stop either, even as the sickness sets in and all of the shirling speculation continues. Okay, so is the swirling
speculation continues. Le's next, Well, he's down in Delaware for the next couple of days. There's nothing on the public schedule as we see, you know, how how he's feeling. And then he's he'll be back at the White House once he's pasted all of this, but we just kind of have to see. Okay, we'll be watching Karen Travers, thank you so much for the update. Thank you. All right, let's get back to some
of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. The cybersecurity firm crowd Strike says a defect in a Windows update has caused major disruptions around the world. The company says the network outages are not because of a security incident or a cyber attack. ABC's Sam Sweeney says the outage has disrupted banks, media outlets, and airlines. Fortunately, this is happening in the overnight
hours when there aren't too many flights taking off. But as you can imagine, the airlines now working as quickly as they can so they can begin their mornings as smooth as possible, but right now certainly issues for American Delta United. Microsoft says it's working to fix the issue affecting access to Hits three sixty five apps and services. Manslaughter charges have been added to an accused dui driver who allegedly killed a five year old boy in Garden Grove and kept driving.
Orange County DA spokeswoman Kimberly Eds says Cepharina Ramos was driving with three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system when he plowed into a family of five. Jacob is five years old and he should be playing with the sisters, and instead he's dead as a result of the selfish decision by somebody to get behind the wheel while they're intoxicated. Ed says the boy was on life support for a week, but died over the weekend. The father is still in
a coma. Ramos faces a maximum twenty years in prison. His first court appearance is set for next week. A man charged with setting ten vegetation fires in San Juan Capistrano could be responsible for thirteen other fires in the same area. Each one of these starts has the potential to be a major wildland Fire. OC Fire Authority Captain John Dorn says the fires were set in the last three months along bike paths near dry hilly areas. A lot of potential there
for damage to property, to horses, lifestock, humans, homes. The Orange County DA says Arson charges filed yesterday against Sergio Para carry a max. Eighteen year prison sentence. The DA says any new info from the public could lead to additional charges tied to the other thirteen fires in Orange County. Corbin Carson KFI news LA Metro has gotten nearly eighty million dollars for electric buses and charging infrastructure. The federal funds were welcomed by local officials as US Secretary of
Transportation Pete Buddha Jedge visited La to tell the bipartisan infrastructure bill. Buddha Jeedge says LA's car centric reputation is changing just in time for the twenty twenty eight Olympics. Angelino's and Olympians are going to know just how efficient this region's public transit can be. This is an investment in the future, the secretary said.
The Biden Administration's infrastructure bill has led to fifty four thousand projects across the country, including hundreds of millions of dollars in investment in La County in downtown La. Michael Monks, KFI News, Francis Ford Coppola, Bonnie Raitt, and The Grateful Dead have all been named honorees for this year's Kennedy Said Honors. The forty seventh annual Kennedy Center event will take place in December. Tonight, the Dodgers are back at Dodger Stadium and they'll take on the Red Sox.
First pitch goes out at seven. You can listen to every play of every Dodgers game on AM five to seventy LA Sports and stream all the games n HD on the iHeartRadio app Keyword AM five to seventy LA Sports powered by Lacare for all of LA flights have been grounded, banks have been knocked offline. Some media outlets were knocked off the air because of technology issues that are
affecting companies all around the world. Cybersecurity from crowd Strike says it has to do with a software update and is not a cyber attack or a security issue. Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gerskovich has been convicted in Russia of espionage and sentenced to sixteen years in prison. The paper in the USA the charges were fabricated and politically motivated. The conviction could pave the way for a prisoner swap
between Moscow and DC. LA County Supervisor Janis Han has made good on a pledge she made when she took over as the chair of the La Metro board. She went and rode the train to work. A photo shows Han reading a newspaper surrounded by empty seats with a purse in her lap. She's taking flak for it too. Some say Han's security detail got on the train with her. One woman said Hans should try riding the train alone at night at
six oh five. It's handle on the news. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been telling how Democrats that President Biden may soon be persuaded to get out of the twenty twenty four race. Let's say good morning right now though too. The house whisper and the host of Home on KFI, Dean Sharp, Dean, we got a lot of heat coming in excessive heat wait advisories, and so we thought we'd talk about cool things today. Yeah, although it's
not temperature, cool things cool and they're cool things. Yeah, uh work. By the way, this weekend, I have no idea what the show is about because we're taking calls all weekend, and whenever we do that, all of our listeners set the agenda for the show. So I'm very excited to find out what the show is about tomorrow as listeners start calling in and
asking their questions about their home. And we're doing that tomorrow. In stair game, everything is fair game inside outside, construction questions, design questions, DIY stuff, the whole gambit. Anything anybody wants to talk about regarding their home, I'm there to help them out. Okay, so you mentioned DIY. So let's launch into some of the cool things that you have found for
homes. And I love this because when I drive around a neighborhood and the first thing you see on a house is an ugly garage door, you just go, oh God. But there's actually a fix for that that you can do yourself, and boy does it look cool. Right now, I gotta just preamble this with we have not tested this out out yet, so but we've seen it, we've heard a lot about it, and I thought it
was worth sharing. You know. For a while now, there have been kits out on the market for decorative garage door hardware what we call carriage hardware, which is like these long strap hinges and handles that are magnetic and you can stick them onto your garage door and make it look like it's two doors, and you know, like it's hinged and like it's a little bit more old world, and you know, it judges it up a little bit,
but it doesn't really fundamentally change the door. It just adds hardware to it. Well, this company garage Skins, and you can find this stuff everybody at garage skins dot com. They have gone the full monty with this. They have designed actual a new wood paneling system for the front of an existing metal garage door. And it's all magnet based, so you measure up your garage door, you enter online the dimensions, you can order one of these
up. It's about the third of a cost of an expensive wood door and these are real wood veneer panels and once the box shows up, it takes about a half an hour for you to just snap them onto your existing garage door and boom, it's a whole new looking door. Wow. And I'm just looking at the pictures that you sent over. They do look very cool. But you said you haven't tested this one yet. Yeah, no, we have not got our hands on one yet. We've actually ordered a kit
to try out, and so I'll let you know when that happens. But I got to say it's got great reviews and just the idea of adding that much more of a change to that garage door, which for so many people in southern California is their primary door, and which I mean it's the thing that's the biggest part of the front of the house sticking out closest to the street. So if you really want to change the vibe of your house, you can't ignore that sixteen foot wide by set and foot tall door. It's
more important than changing out the front door. And this is a less far, far less expensive way of doing it. And so if it turns out that these things work, it's going to revolutionize. We're going to see a lot of people changing out their garage doors without changing out their garage doors, which is very exciting. Yeah, okay, so speaking of garage, I could so use this. Uh it's a new way to store stuff in the garage exactly now. There have been lift systems around for several years now,
a lot of companies doing really good work for this. But I gotta say ox Lift and this is au Xx dash Lift. Auxx dash Lift, ox Lift. They have really turned the corner with these storage systems. So you know how so many people. You know, if we've got room overhead in our garage, you know, we'll put some plywood up there in those rafters and we'll try and get the stored up there. And that's great, and
it's all fine. It gets a little messy, a little unruly, and then you got to get on a ladder to get up there and wrangle the boxes down where sym comes. Yeah, exactly right. I've got those in my garage where I put the ones that kind of look like what you're talking about now, but it doesn't have the lift system on it. But they're great and they they're suspended from the roof or not the roof, but from the ceiling of the garage down about five feet and you can load them up
with stuff. But the big thing is, like you just said, you have to crawl up a ladder and then you and wrestle with it, all of them. Yeah. So this is a system where a platform is connected to cables. And the big change about this is that the motor that lowers the winch that lowers these you're looking at the whole thing in that picture, Amy, those coils right there, those two those two tubes, those are the motors. So this whole thing just surface mounts plugs into a one twenty
outlet and they can get very very big. We're talking the largest one that they make is four x eight. That's an entire sheet of plywood with a six hundred pounds storage capacity. So here's the thing. You pull the car out of the garage, you flip a switch, and all of that storage drops right down onto the floor where you can access it, do whatever you need to do, get the boxes that you need to get, hit the switch again, and right back up to the ceiling. No ladders, no
wrestling up there. I just love that idea of it coming down to you. Very high tech and very practical as well. And the same company makes the same kind of system in hallway with units for attic storage and the hallway unit. The hallway unit actually has drywall on the bottom and it flushes out with your ceiling like a ceiling panel. You would flip a switch in your hallway and suddenly all of your attic storage stuff just drops right down into the
hallway for you. Oh that's very cool. Okay, and it's called what ox ox. It's made by you. There are different kinds of lists, but you can go to their website. Au Xx dash Lift ax Lift. Okay. Now, just a couple more things that are much smaller, much less expensive and are really great. So I've seen this prepared hero fire blanket on TV. Yes, yeah, but it tell us about it, you
know, it's it could not be smarter or simpler. And I'm just thrilled prepared hero fire blanket, you know, as opposed to having a fire extinguished. And this is not to replace the fact that you should have a fire extinguisher nearby, but for fires that happen, you know, maybe in the kitchen, on the cook top, grease fires, things like that. You get out the fire extinguisher. You haven't used it, you don't know if it's fully charged. When was the last time you even touched the thing?
Do we know where it is? And then you blow that out. You know it's going to put the fire out, but it's going to make a massive mess as well. The simplicity of the Prepared Hero Fire Blanket. It's a forty inch by forty inch fiberglass flame smothering blanket. It's in a little pouch. You can keep it in a drawer right next to your cook top or anywhere over by the barbecue outside. You pull it out of its little sleeve and you just toss it over the fire and it simply smothers the fire.
And it's just that smart. It's kind of that stop drop, except for you know, using this little blanket. It's reusable, it can handle temperatures over a thousand degrees, and it is just one of the smartest, most practical first step in fire control in a house. Okay, Prepared Hero fire blanket. Okay. And then this, my little brother just got this for my mom for Christmas last year. The battery Daddy. Oh my gosh, Tim Conway and I just flip out over the battery Daddy. We just
love it. It's not brand new, and it's not brand new, and a lot of people kind of have scoffed at it because they've advertised it sort of as one of those as seen on TV things y. But I got to tell you, it's twenty bucks and you can find it just about anywhere. You can find it at home depot and Lows and your local hardware store. And it is brilliant. It's a little case. It's just the right size. It secures all sorts and all sizes of battery holds up to one
hundred and eighty batteries. Somebody got I think Tina or one of my kids got one for me a couple of years back. And I tell you it is transformative. I am so proup. You know, instead of there being like some weird tubberware thing, or where's the drawer with the loose battery, you know, just the whole battery thing, We're just like, up, grab the battery daddy. There they are. It even has a charger built into it as well, so you can make sure that the batteries that are
in there are still perfectly good. It stores batteries front and back. And you know, there have been battery storage cases in the past. They're either too big or they're too small, and they're useless. This it's just it's the Goldilock zone. The battery daddy. It's just the right size. It's perfect for every other So I kid you not if you don't have one of these to a certain degree. It will change your life. That's so funny.
And it's only twenty bucks. And I will tell you my mom, we all kind of laughed about it when Rob got it from Mom for Christmas, but now she's like, oh, go get the battery, Daddy, and I mean she's like all into it so absolutely. You know, I don't know what it is. It's like a lifetime of wrestling with batteries and suddenly you're like, oh, they've solved the problem. You know. It's like we live in the twenty first century and they've solved the battery problem.
It just it just brings us so much joy every time we bring it down. It doesn't make sense to me, but I guarantee you you'll love it, Okay, love all the cool new stuff. And if you want to have Dean help solve one of your problems around your home, give m a call this weekend Home with Dean Sharp. It's happening tomorrow from six to eight am and then nine to noon on Sunday, and it's an all call weekend. It's like open lines. It's a free for all. It's going to
be crazy. It always is, all right, you can also follow him at home with Dean Thank you so much, Dean Sharp, Thanks Amy all Right. Global technology outage has grounded flights, knocked banks and hospital systems offline, and media outlets off the air in a massive disruption that is affecting companies and services around the world. Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike says the outage is the result of a faulty software update to computers running Windows. It's not a cyber attack,
it says Affixes. On the way. Fresh off accepting his party's nomination for president, former President Trump and his VP pick JD. Carol Burnett tweeted that she had the great pleasure of being his friend and said he was as kind and nice as he was funny and he will be missed. Bob Newhart died yesterday. He was ninety four. Right now, let's say good morning to ABC's Jason Nathanson. So, Jason, let's get twisted. Yes, Twisters is out this weekend. That is the sequel to
the nineteen ninety six original summer blockbuster. And this is a sequel kind of just because they're saying it's a sequel. It has nothing to do with the original. There's nobody from the original in it, because that was Bill packs Hellen Hunt, right yeah, Bill, Bill Paxton, Helen Hunt, Philip Seymour Hoffman. Oh yeah, yeah, So a couple of people who are no longer with us, but a couple of people who were and are And so there's nobody. Don't expect to see any unless there's some kind of cameo
that I missed a very quick something. There's nobody in it from the original, and maybe maybe there was, maybe the cow that flew into the but the cow cows don't live that long, I don't think. And the characters, the storyline again has nothing to do with the original and doesn't reference the original at all. This stars Daisy Edgar Jones, as a former storm chaser turned National Weather Service scientist. She's the she's the scientist, she's the brain
of this whole thing. And you also have Tyler Owens, who's played by Glenn Powell, who's the charming, reckless social media superstar who's a storm chaser and likes to live blog all that kind of stuff, and the two of them just their personalities clash, but there might be sparks, which is, you know, the the hallmark and staple of any kind of summer blockbuster type movie, and it is a good summer popcorn type movie. Although Glenn pallin
da'sy Edgar Jones, I think they're individually, they're charming together. I didn't feel a whole lot of chemistry between the two of them. There's also a weird love triangle involving Anthony Ramos, which was just more awkward than you know, anything else. There were some good laughs, which I appreciated. I would have liked to have more, but the last that were there were good. I saw it an Imax. I got the choice to see in Imax or regular. For a movie like this, I figured Imax would be better.
I don't know if it necessarily added anything to it. So I would say you don't necessarily need to spend the extra money to see it in imax, But if you're going to see it, I would say see it in a theater because it is you know, it's that kind of movie you want to have fun, and it looks good on the big screen, and so, you know, overall, seven point two out of ten for me, it delivers on what it's supposed to be, which is a good summer blockbuster,
which is fun, and you don't really think too hard about it, and I'm probably never gonna think about it again. Okay. I wonder how it's gonna play like in the Midwest where they've been just hammered with tornadoes, and I would think that like they might be going you know what, I don't think I want to see tornadoes. Now, you know it's possible, But then you know, every time there's a big earthquake movie, we go
see it, so there's that, you know. I don't know. I think maybe it might be a little of both, like I don't want to see that on screen, and then oh I like to see what we're going through on screen. Okay. A new documentary out called Sorry Not Sorry, what's that. Yeah, this is a look at the Louis c K sexual harassment, all this stuff that happened in twenty seventeen with him kind of being
canceled and then over the past few years coming back as well. It talks to a lot of the women who are involved in that, a lot of other figures like Mike Sure, who's one of the co creators of Parks and rec which was a show that Louis was on, and it talks to him about how he feels about having heard some of the rumors about some of this stuff but not doing anything and hiring Louis anyway, and whether he feels bad about that, and some other people reckoning with some stuff like that as well.
And then of course Louis c K has come back over the past couple of years where he's been selling out, you know, Arena's doing comedy and winning a Grammy for his comedy album and how people feel about that and wrestling with some of the big questions surrounding a lot of this stuff is when is somebody allowed to come back and what do they have to do to atone for their sins? And did Louis c K do those things? Or not, and how do some of the women who are involved in that story feel about
those kinds of things. So I think it's very interesting the whole subject matter. I think Louis c. K in particular is one of the more interesting stories because it was right on that line of did he do something illegal? Is this just harassment you know? Or what was going on here? And of course he was never charged or facing time, but he also, unlike a lot of these guys, admit it to everything and said, yes, I did that stuff. So the whole thing I think is very interesting,
although could have gone a little bit deeper. And that's a seven point five out of ten for me. It's in select theaters. It's called Sorry Not Sorry. It's in select theaters, and I believe available today for video on demand rental. Oh okay, but it's rental. It's not just on the free stream. It's not just streaming somewhere as far as I know. Okay, something that is streaming is The Bear And it just got a ton of Emmy nominations, but it's nominated in the comedy category. Yeah, I don't
get it. It's not funny. It's not funny, and that for me is The main sticking point is it's not funny, and it's not trying to be funny, although there are comedic moments in it, but like there are you know, The Sopranos was very, very funny at times, But is that a comedy? No? Succession. Also, Succession was one of the funniest shows on TV when it was on. Is that a comedy? You
know? I don't know, but it it kind of just depends. Look, it stems from this old school thought of something that's thirty minutes long is a comedy and something that's sixty minutes long is a drama. I don't think those categories necessarily apply anymore. And the actual rules on the Emmy's website saying of this, you have to submit at least your show has to be at least six episodes long, and of those six episodes, a majority of it
has to be comedic. So it's really up for interpretation. When it comes down to something like that, I would say, a majority of the Bear is not comedic. But are you actually going to sit there and measure in
minutes how much is funny and how much is not. No, I don't think anybody's doing that, And ultimately, it would be up for the Academy to say, no, we don't think this is a comedy, that it's a drama, but it's going to go where it can win, and it's had great success in the comedy category so far, so I can't blame FX for keeping it in that category. I think that they should have a new category called the super stressful Show. I'm just stressed out watching that show.
Yeah, yeah, tension show exactly. Yeah, yep. All right, Jason Nathanson, thanks so much for your time. All right, figure we got twisted with Jason today.
