More than nine thousand died in the assault. President Biden is marking D Day at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, which is on a bluff overlooking Omaha Beach. We're going to be talking more about D Day and President Biden's role in it, coming up in just a couple of minutes with

ABC's Karen Travers. Nearly thirty million people in the West and South are under heat alerts. And warnings. Temperatures into the triple digits are expected in central California, Arizona, Nevada, and southern Texas. The central Valley and low deserts of California could top one hundred degrees actually one hundred and ten degrees,

one hundred to nothing, one ten. That's serious business. An appeals court has put the Georgia election interference case against former President Trump on hold while it reviews a lower court ruling that allowed Da Fani Willis to remain on the case. The order will prevent Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee from moving forward with pre trow motions while the appeal is pending. Okay. Also, today we're going to go out and about to one of my favorite places to talk

about one of my favors food and it's fabulous. It picks our Fest that's coming up at the bottom of the hour. We're also going to find out not about the Stanley Cup, but the Stanley Pop. Okay. Now, I have three things it used to be D and D that are my favorite things, Uh, Disney and Dodgers. I'm gonna add dogs to that. So Disney's Dodgers and dogs, and we're gonna be talking about dogs coming up a little bit later, probably about twenty minutes from now, and I'll watch

out. Your sun's screen might not be safe. We're gonna find out more about that coming up before the top of next hour. Let's get started with some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. La County has filed no body murder charges against a man accused of killing his infant son in Palmdale, and those charges without the baby's body are first for La County. The DA's office says there's extensive evidence the twenty four year old father

murdered his three week old son. He now faces murder, abuse, and assault charges once he's extradited from Utah, where he's in custody for lying about his son's whereabouts. Officials have searched through areas of palm including dumpsters and landfills, but no sign of the baby. The infant's mother is also in custody in Utah for abusing the couple's five year old. A warrant was issued for the baby's father yesterday, and he's expected to be extradited in a few weeks.

Chris Adler KFI News. Three Jewish students have filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against UCLA. The lawsuit of leiges of students civil rights were violated when UCLA allowed anti Semitic activists to build an encampment and prevent Jewish students from getting to classes, offices, and the library during the recent pro Palestinian demonstrations.

The suit claims UCLA was aware activists were using wristbands and barriers to prevent Jewish students from getting into the main part of the campus, but let it continue. The lawsuit says Jewish students would be allowed to pass through the checkpoints if they disavowed Israel's right to exist. UCLA has not commented Chris Little KFI News. Palestinian health officials say in Israeli strike on a school sheltering displaced family in

central Gaza has killed at least thirty three people. The Israeli military claims the school, struck early this morning, was being used as a hamas compound. Witnesses and hospital officials say the school was filled with Palestinians who had fled Israeli offensives and bombardment in northern Gaza. Time is about out for a person who bought a Mega Million's lottery ticket in LA. It's worth two point nine million dollars. The ticket was sold at sk gas station for the December twelfth drawing.

It matched five of the six winning numbers. The ticket holder has until five o'clock tomorrow tomorrow evening to claim the ticket in person at a lottery office, or they could mail in a claim form postmarked no later than this Saturday, June eighth. If you have any old tickets laying around, might want to check them. Let's say good morning now to ABC's Karen Travers. Karen, it was eighty years ago that the Allied forces invaded the beaches of Normandy,

France. President Biden is there today to mark that anniversary. Yeah, he is speaking right now, in fact, at this D Day ceremony at Normandy, to honor the seventy thousand Americans who took part in the invasion and of course the twenty five hundred who lost their lives there. The President's theme over the next couple of days today, at these remarks, his meetings with veterans, and then tomorrow when he's giving another major address again at Normandy,

It's all about American leadership abroad. It's about protecting democracy at home and overseas. And you know, these are campaign things for him. It's not a campaign event, of course, but these are big things that he talks about

in his campaign. So the Waite House says, you know, look for him to make what they call a through line from World War Two through the Cold War to right now what's happening in Ukraine with their war against Russia, and the importance of military alliances and diplomatic alliances to helping countries fight back against aggression like that. And along with making the big speeches, he's doing what I consider to be the important stuff too. He's meeting with some of the

veterans who make that pilgrimage to go back to Normandy. Yeah, it's pretty incredible to see some of them who are at the minimum ninety eight years old, some of them over one hundred, of course, and the President and First Lady met with many veterans this morning ahead of the ceremonies at Normandy. They chatted with them, took some pictures. The President had these command coins

collector coins that he had made for D Day. This is something he enjoys doing when he's traveling in the US or abroad, gave him out to all of the veterans. One of them even gave the President a coin of their own, which he was pretty excited about. But he had some nice moments with some of the veterans. Some who could stand up did so to take

a picture with him. One told him as he was getting back to his wheelchair, don't get old, and the others said, you won't believe it, but I'm a TikTok star, and the President said, I do believe it. We got to start tiktoking together. So it was a chance for them to have some moments. One of the veterans said his birthday was on Saturday, and the President got everybody there to sing him a happy birthday.

Nice. Yeah, And these the bigger celebrations don't happen every not celebrations, but they happen every five years, right, So there's there's a lot of probably the last major one that many of these veterans would be able to attend. You know, there's like this extra significance to today because you know it's a round number with eighty and imagining you know where we are at eighty five with each passing day and year. These veterans are sadly passing away, so

it's a big deal and you can get them together. Yeah, I've had some friends who've gone over there. I haven't. Have you been over there? I have. I went when President Obama went for an anniversary. I guess that would have been fifteen years ago, and it's just just striking. It's incredible to see like the magnitude of you know, taking the walk there and to see the cemetery with all of the crosses. It's beautiful. I mean, it's a beautiful location. People still actually, you know, go

to the beaches and you can take walks there. It's not just like a protected cemetery. I mean that the cemetery is, but the actual Normandy beaches it's not like it's all sealed off. People use it. And it's really amazing to think of that landing there and what it was like eighty years ago.

You know, this is totally kind of off topic, but I was watching Saving Private Ryan, which was probably one of the most realistic depictions of what it was like to land on Normandy that I've seen anyway, and I remember after about fifteen minutes, I was like, I got to get out of here. I can't, I can't do this. And then I thought, oh my god, those people were there and they couldn't just walk out

into the hallway of the movie theater. I mean, they had to live that nightmare and they did it for their country absolutely, and you know, just some incredible stories, and you know the importance of making sure those stories are still told. That's something the President's certainly talking about, to make sure

that that bravery is still understood. He actually sat down for an exclusive interview with he sees David Muir and we had some of it air on Good Morning America and David asked him, you know what the lessons can be learned from those heroes who took part in the operation, and he said, important thing is, you know, stand up, tell the truth, serve your country and imagine what they had to go through. Yeah. All right, ABC's Karen Travers, thank you so much. Have a great day. All right

you too. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. LA police are searching for two people who pushed a man into the lake at MacArthur Park. The man's body was recovered from the lake yesterday morning. LAPD Lieutenant Ryan Ribett says there may have been a fight before the man ended up in the lake. There are several video cameras. Like I said, we haven't completely reviewed them, but from what we've

seen, it does tell a story of a fight. Rabette says. Security cameras show two men pushing the man into the lake while he was still alive. LA has rejected a donation of two k nines due to a company's name, Adler Horse International in Riverside County. She's an name with a bunker used by Adolph Hitler in Nazi Germany. The company says it's not connected. It means eagles nest in English and pays tribute to the German kennel where its first

dog came from in the nineteen seventies. LA City Councilman Bob Blumenfield said Tuesday he sees it differently. They've had plenty of time to change the name and do something about it. The council voted to decline the twenty seven thousand dollars donation from the Police Foundation and send the issue to the Public Safety Committee for further review. Michael Monks KFI News Hunter Biden's exes have taken the stand in

his gun trial in Delaware. ABC's Terry Moran says ex girlfriend Zoe Kesten told the court yesterday their relationship was highlighted by Biden's crack addiction. Gueston testifying she saw Hunter smoking crack just three weeks before he bought that cold thirty eight gun

and said he'd smoke every twenty minutes or so. Lorenzez Kestin admitted during cross examination that she lost contact with Biden days later and had no idea what he was doing at the time he applied to purchase a gun in twenty eighteen. Biden is accused of lying on a form about his addiction to buy the gun. He's pleted not guilty. Officials in France may have foiled a would be terror attacks. French anti terrorism authorities say firefighters treated a Russian Ukrainian man for

burns in a hotel near Charles d gaul Airport. Authorities found devices used to make explosives in the hotel. ABC's Bran Clark says the man was taken into custody Monday for reportedly targeting French military equipment headed to Ukraine. US officials say the man is currently suspected of participating in a terrorist conspiracy and bomb plot. Several European countries have accused Russia of being behind major arson attacks in the last

few months. Medicare and whether it'll still be around for retirement is weighing heavily on the mines of older Americans. A West Health galloped twenty twenty four survey on aging in America says nearly three and four Americans between the ages of fifty and sixty four are extremely worried or at least worried about Medicare not be available when they become eligible for it. That's up thirteen points from twenty twenty two. Author Suzanne Collins says Woho, a new Hunger Games novel is going to

be released next year. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, a prequel to the Hunger Games trilogy, was her last book in the series and also was the last movie. It was released in twenty twenty three. I know they're dark. I know they're actually for kids or you know, teenagers, but I love her books. The Dodgers take on the Pirates this afternoon in Pittsburgh,

with first pitch going out at three point forty. You can listen to every play of every Dodgers game on AM five to seventy LA Sports and stream all the games in HD on the iHeartRadio app Keyword AM five seventy LA Sports powered by LA Care for all of LA. Three Jewish students have filed a civil rights lawsuit against the University of California, alleging UCLA allowed anti Semitic activists to keep them and other students from going to classes offices in the library during

pro Palestinian protest in April and May. One of the students said, this is America in twenty twenty four, not Germany in nineteen thirty nine. A student has been stabbed outside South Elmonte High School during a graduation ceremony. Police say someone stabbed the man young man shortly before nine p thirty last night, then ran off. Police say they don't believe the student stabbed was one of the grads. He is expected to survive. Former President Trump's going to be

campaigning in Arizona today ahead of fundraising swing through California. It's his first appearance in a battleground state since his hush money conviction. Joe Biden won Arizona in twenty twenty by about ten thousand votes. It was, along with Georgia, one of two states decided by less than half a percentage point, and it's expected to be close again this year. At six ZHO five, it's handle on the news. Well, the bird flew has killed a person for the

very first time. We'll get more on that. Right now, let's say good morning to the executive producer of the Stanley Pup. It's Michael Levitt. Good morning, Michael, Hello, Amy, nice to be with you. Nice to have you up about with us for wakeup call this morning. We have the Puppy Bowl before Super Bowl. It's kind of become a new tradition. And now before the Stanley Cup Championship, we have a new competition for

our furry friends. Tell us about it, we sure do so. I'm a television producer of live events, specials and series, but I also happened to be heavily involved in dog rescue. It's my passion and as yeah, and as a lover of the Puppy Bowl, I for the last few years I couldn't for the life and may figure out why hockey didn't have their own

version. And of course it had to be called the Stanley Pop. So I reached out to the NHL and they had actually been thinking about a similar idea, and so we chatted and decided to partner and make this show together. And I couldn't be more thrilled that it's finally become a reality. I love it. Okay, So it's The Stanley Pup and it's going to be

on before the Stanley Cup Championships this weekend. Yeah, it actually will air tomorrow, Friday, June seventh, on NHL Network at five pm here in Los Angeles, but it also will be streaming starting tomorrow on ESPN Plus. Okay, so you can watch it a couple of different ways. So tell us about the game. What You've got a bunch of dogs and you put them out on the ice. How how did they react? Well, first of all, it's I hate to break the fourth wall here, but it's

synthetic ice because their safety is our priority. Ask you about that. Yeah, yeah, but it looks like a real ice rink. But what we did was we partnered with the nonprofit Petco Love, who have four thousand rescue partners all over the country, and we sourced sixteen puppies that represent each of the NHL teams that made this year Stanley Cup Playoffs to participate in the game.

And so we created two all star teams, East versus West in a battle royale to see which team comes out on top and can claim bragging rights or as we say, wagging rights, to be the overall Stanley pupp Champions. And all the dogs have these really punny names in honor of famous hockey player, So David Pupsternak from the Boston Bruins, Anders Leash, the New York Islanders, Nikita pucherov Alex Ofechkin and last but not Leaf and j Kopa

are representing the La Kings. And I looked at him. He's adorable. Oh my gosh. There it's just cuteness overload. Okay, is it? John? And I took a quick pick at him. But it's not just one side. It's not just big dogs like you think of hockey players as being big, burly guys. But you've got some little dogs in there too. Well. These are all actually puppies that were twelve to sixteen weeks.

Yeah. But computer yeah, but the sixteen teams that did not make the playoff are represented in the show because we do these wonderful adoption segments of older

dogs all over the country. Because you know, while this show is meant to be very entertaining and it's so adorable, it's also about the messaging, because we want people to watch the show and realize that puppies and dogs of all ages and our shelters are not secondhand animals, that they're usually there because it's people that have failed them, and that they deserve to be part of

any family starting lineup. I love that. And some of the dogs that are available, I saw that they had little banners across their pictures saying already adopted, which is great, but there's still more to be that are available for adoption. Yeah, some are adopted, quite a few are still available.

And if your listeners watch the show or they go to petcolove dot org slash Stanley Pup, they can see profiles of all the puppies and all the dogs that participated, and if the dogs that they were interested on are already adopted, they can link to those rescues to look for more available dogs. And the other cool thing is on that website you can also enter your zip code and be instantly linked to hundreds of available dogs in your own community.

Oh I love that. Okay, So here's my question, Michael. If you see one of the pups that's still available and you've got your heart set on it, does it have to be matched geographically or like theoretically, could you find a pup in LA and say the one that I want is in another state? Can you could you still be qualified to get that pup? Well? I think logistically, if the pupp you're interested in, if I understand what you're saying, is on the other side of the country, that

might be challenging. But I know that by going to that website, you can have access to, you know, organizations all over the country that could help you certainly find a similar pup or or dog at any age. Okay, perfect, And going back to the game just for a second, because we know that we broke that wall. We know they're not sliding around on real ice. What did you get or what did you use to get them

to chase after the puck? Oh my gosh, So anything that they brought into the goal considered was considered or anything they brought into the net was considered a goal. So we use peanut butter. We use fishing wire, pulling the toyl you know, the toy pups and the toy sticks. It was hilarious, but ultimately all of these puppies were so enthusiastic and they all delivered, and it's just it's a heart melter to watch it. It's great for

family members of all ages. It's hilarious and yeah, the game is quite interesting and we are play by play and color commentary announcers did a wonderful job of calling the game and trying to make sense of what these silly little puppies did in the ring. I love it, okay, and Michael one more time? Where can people watch it? Yeah? So it will air tomorrow Friday, June seventh, on the NHL Network, but you can also stream

it on ESPN Plus. And the website once again is pechcolove dot org slash Stanley Pop for all the information you need, Okay, great, and you know what, We're going to put that information up also on our website kfiam six forty dot com slash wake Up Call, and you can find out all the information about the Stanley Pop, the links where to watch it, and of course links to the beautiful dogs that are up for adoption, and Michael Levitt, thank you so much. We're looking forward to the Stanley Pup being

a new tradition. Well, thank you, Amy, and thank you Kafive for always being so supportive of adoption and rescuing animals and our shelters. You bet we are. We love our dogs and cats too. Thank you. All right, thanks Michael exactly, bye bye. All right. The heat is on, but people in La County are being warned to avoid the water

at eight local beaches. They include Escondido Creek at Escondido State Beach, Mother's Beach in Marina del Rey, Santa Monica Pier, the Malibu Pier, and Inner Cabrio Beach in San Pedro. The Health Department says the beaches were found of high bacteria levels they exceed health standards. Ramirez Creek at Paradise Cove and Santa Monica Canyon Creek at will Rogers State Beach have been cleared so you can

go in the water there again. Some Jewish people say they're upset over an article on the Israel Hamas War that was published in a year book at Pallas Verdes High School. The article is called whose land is it anyway? And was written by a student and approved for printing by a teacher. Rabbi Gretz of the Near to Meet Congregation says the article is dangerous and there has to be follow up with serious education on anti Semitism. What is anti Semitism?

What is the rus? How do I identify that? And to prevent these things from happening again? Some Jewish students say the article is filled with misinformation and victim blaming against Israel. At the school board meeting Tuesday, supporter said the student who wrote the article is entitled to freedom of expression. Chris Adler KFI News meeting three times a week has become just too much for some La City council members. They wanted to ask voters to change the city charter to

allow for fewer meetings. Councilman Tim McCosker says his constituents want him in the district more. I don't have a single person in my district who says, geez, I wish you were in kid city council chambers more often nobody says that. Nobody says that, but they do say, how come you didn't come to my daughter's graduation? The idea was referred to the Charter Reform Commission instead of being placed on the ballot with a list of proposed changes to the

Charter. Scared When. Stefani, Doja, Cat Paramore, and Hosier are among the stars performing at this year's iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas. The festival happens September twentieth and twenty first at T Mobile Arena. It'll also be live streamed on Hulu. Tickets go on sale June fourteenth. Always a great show. When we come back, I'm going out and about to one of my favorite places where we found some of the most magical hasty treats around.

You don't want to miss it. US veterans of World War Two, dignitaries and heads of state have all gathered in Normandy, France, to honor those who died fighting on d Day June sixth, nineteen forty four. Many of the veterans are older than one hundred, with major commemorations held every five years. For many of them, this will be their last trip to Normandy.

Security video has caught two men destroying the front door of Jabad House on the campus of USC The men can be seen running away after vandalizing the door. Early yesterday morning. About of USC posted on x that this just highlights the rising anti semitism on US college campuses. State Farm says some homeowners in California can keep their coverage after all, but there's a catch. It won't cover

fires. About thirty thousand State Farm customers have been told that they won't lose their insurance if they sign up for separate fire coverage through the state's fare plan, known as the Insurer of Last Resort. At six oh five, it's handle on the news. Bars and nightclubs will soon have to offer date rate drug testing kits for all patrons at five point fifty. It's nice and warm, which means you're probably going to be spending some time outside. Why you

may want to think twice before you slather on the sunscreen. We'll be telling you more about that. We went out and about this week to the Disneyland resort for Pixarfest twenty twenty four. Actually I have already been there a couple of times. We told you about the parades, the fireworks, and the fun new characters and activities at both Disneyland and California Adventure Park. But Pixar Fest would not be complete if we didn't talk about the food. Disney has

done it up right, as it always does. It's created a whole new menu for Pixar Fest. There are items that are all inspired by the different Pixar movies. In fact, there's a cake that looks just like the Pixar Ball. It's freaky and it's also delicious. We caught up with Disney ambassador and food pro Victoria. She is a pro talking about some of the really cool foods that they have to offer, and so I just wanted to dive in and take a look, Victoria at some of the special offerings that you

have. Please tell me what that is. Yes, so this is Una. It's inspired by the movie Coco, and it's kind of a best of both worlds because it's got all the topics you might enjoy on nachos, but inside a big potato okay, and then moving over there's sweet treats, and of course Coco has all these great colors and flavors. The movie is so fun. And look at that cupcake. Yeah, so you can see kind of a nod to the Merrygold Bridge there that keeps the land of the living

and the diet connected. So let me go come be with his family and you can enjoy a sweet treat. Okay, and then we're gonna move over, and we're also highlighting this movie, which is elemental. This is one of our newer Pixar movies. Oh yes, we met, we met Ember and Wade earlier. Yes, yes, okay, I can see here. We've got a pair of margaritas inspired by Ember and Wade. Wades is a little bit more subtle, a little softer, and the water he is and

Ember, who is the flame. She's got a little bit of spice in her margarita. Okay, So let's talk about spice because this looks absolutely delicious and it's not it's impossible chicken, it is. So this is great for our plant based friends. Anybody who's vegan or vegetarian can enjoy this as well. It's got a little bit of spice and barbecue flavors there as well.

So definitely again inspired by Ember's flame. Okay. And then this is one of the things that I absolutely have to try the movie Swing Mac and Cheese. Tell us about this, Victoria. Yeah, so once again fired by one of our movies. This one is inside out. So we've got a little bit of anger, a little bit of joy, sort of looking like their memory balls right there. And we've got the spicy and the classic mac

and cheese mixed together. Okay, So you have spicy mac and cheese with flame and hot cheetos and then the traditional mac and cheese with regular cheetos. Yep, there is nothing that does not sound absolutely spectacular about them. Okay, and then oh, look, red turning red. What do we have here? This one is a nice sweet treat. It's kind of a blending of the best of both worlds because we've got both New York cheesecake and chocolate

brownie my witch Tree cheese frosting on top of it. Okay, all right, then we're gonna move over and the last one we're going to tell you about because then we're gonna say that you need to come to pickx our Fest and taste some of these for yourself. But this is one of my favorite movies from the last few years. It's soul and so what is chicken and potato waffles? Seriously? Yeah, it's got a nice peach cobbler inspired glaze on top of it. So once again with that savory and sweet sort of

it going on inspired by the flavors that Joe Gardner himself would enjoy. Okay, and then this is probably the most beautiful cocktail I've ever seen, absolutely, and it will take you to the great beyond, because we're in Disney California Adventure Park and there are cocktails for people twenty one and up. There are, and that's just a small sampling of what they have to offer.

If you look behind, there's a ton of things from Toy Story, so many offerings, and as I said, there's the marketplaces that have special treats, all Pixar themed. And then also at all of the restaurants, yes, our restaurants, our food carts, we have over one hundred picks are inspired items for Pixar Fest and they look fadinous. Victoria, thank you for

your time today. Thanks for hos pix Our Fest twenty twenty four. We're out and about for a wake up call and I can tell you I got to try a bunch of the marketplace foods, smaller bites, great to share. They had like were talking about how they were inspired by Disney Pixar movies, so like there was a ratituy pizzetta, which was very strange but really good. There was a cheeseburger pizza. I didn't try that one, but it's pizza that had hamburger and like pickles on it. I heard that it

was very good. And then the chicken and potato waffles with the peach cobbler thing on it. I did try that. That was spectacular. The Elemental Margarita is really really good. The food this year is it's really good. So if you're going to the park, it's just another element to add to your day. It's going on now through October fourth at the Disneyland Resort and you can see some of the fabulous foods we were just telling you about on my Instagram at amy Kking, also at KFI AM six forty, and of

course I would love to have you follow me. It's at Amy Kking. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Another two hundred million dollars has been added to the people Mover budget at LAX. The elevated train won't open this year's originally planned. Airport officials now expect writers next spring. The La City Council approved increasing its budget another two hundred million dollars to resolve a series of issues causing the do lay

disagreements between the Airport Board and the contractor, Lax Integrated Express Solutions. The contractor and the board have disagreements over costs, construction, and other issues. The Airport Board already approved the budget increase, which is expected to resolve all those disputes at once. The now three billion dollar project is supposed to connect travelers to all terminals, parking, and mass transit. Michael Monks KFI News.

Former President Trump's gun license will likely be revoked following the guilty verdict in his hush money trial in New York. The New York Police Department says Trump's gun license in the state had already been suspended when he was indicted, and licenses are usually revoked entirely after a conviction. Trump was convicted last month on thirty four felon accounts of falsifying business records. Sentencing a set for July eleventh.

One of the unsung heroes of D Day is being celebrated on this idioth anniversary of the invasion that turned the tide and ultimately won the war for the Allied forces. Maureene Sweeney was a postal clerk at black sis Odd Point on the northwest coast of Ireland. One of her duties was to record data that

fed into weather forecasts for the British Isles. Sweeney sent a series of readings in early June of nineteen forty four that helped persuade General Dwight D. Eisenhower to delay D Day and avoid potentially disastrous weather that could have wrecked the landings. She didn't learn of the important role she played in history for more than

ten years. Okay, I was scrolling through Instagram yesterday and I came across this video and it had Chris Hemsworth on it, and so I'm like, Okay, I'm in and a first adorable to look out, but then it was also a really fun message, and so I thought, if you needed to start your day with a little affirmation from Chris Hemsworth, this might be the way to do it. So here you go, Hi, you,

Yes, yes, yes you. Today is your day. You got this absolutely crushing out at everything you do, from your job to maintaining a social life, to be suing your passion projects killing it. Ignore anyone who tells you otherwise because you you're amazing. The only thing more beautiful than your smile is your personality. Yeah, I said it. I'm more than capable to take on the world, the whole world by storm. Speaking of the world, did you know that it's a better place because you're in You're strong,

if you're confident, you're intelligent, you're charismatically the total package. On a scale from one to ten, you are an eleven? Are you? Bloody? Brilliant? Brilliant? Don't forget it. I do not forget it. To go out there, take the day by storm and remember this. I'm proud of you. Come on, what better way to start your day. You're killing it and you're amazing. And Chris Hemsworth, Holy buckets, he's

cute. Three Jewish students have filed a civil rights lawsuit against the University of California, alleging UCLA allowed anti Semitic activists to keep them and other students from going to class, office and libraries during pro Palestinian demonstrations in April and May. One of the students said, this is America in twenty twenty four,

not Germany in nineteen thirty nine. High bacteria levels in the water have prompted La County Health Department officials to issue a warning to residents against swimming, surfing, or playing in the ocean waters at eight beaches, including Escondido State Beach, Mother's Beach, Malibu Lagoon, the Santa Monica Peer and Malibu Piers, and Inner Cubrio Beach. California owes the federal government millions of dollars because of

an accounting error. The state miscalculated how much medical funding it could ask the Feds to reimburse for illegal immigrants healthcare, and now it has to pay back more than fifty two million dollars. We're just minutes away from handle. On the news this morning, the FDA says you're still going to need to get a COVID nineteen booster vaccine this fall. Right now, let's say good morning to Emily Spilman with the Environmental Working Group. And Emily, we're going to

talk sunscreens. But before we do, what can you tell us for people who aren't familiar. What is the Environmental Working Group? What do you do? The Environmental Working Group is a public health nonprofit and so we work in a range of issues from environmental health, such as pfas and agriculture to consumer products, and really we're trying to work with the FDA and work with regulation to improve regulations and educate consumers about what's in their products and how to protect

them. Okay, so the important stuff, and you just mentioned what's in products and how to protect people, and we're finding out that sunscreens might not be so safe. Yeah, So we do an annual review and this year, our assessment of overs seventeen hundred SDS products found that only twenty five percent offer adequate protection from the sun and do not contain worrisome ingredients. Okay, so you said seventeen hundred, you tested one in four really have the protection.

So are you finding that like it might say SPF thirty but it really isn't. Yeah, so there are some issues that with the way SPF values are fast, but really what we're looking at. The SPF value tells you the protection you're going to get from UVB rays, which are those that cause sunburn, which is the effects that most people think about when they think about going into the sun. But they're also UVA rays and so those are a

longer wavelength that more deeply penetrate your skin. That can lead to photo aging and skin cancer, and so we're really looking at protection from both and evaluating the broad spectrum protection that products are giving. Okay, So some of them may have that uv B protection but not the uv A protection, right, Okay, So do we know that the products are less safe or have they

just not been tested enough to know whether or not they're safe. So with sunscreen products, there are only two ingredients that the FDA has actually proved as being safe and effective, and that's been go oxide and titanium dioxide. And there about a dozen other active ingredients allowed for use in sunscreens that the FDA

has said there's not enough safety data to determine whether they're safer effective. So while they're still allowed to be used in products, there is this requirement for more data, more testing on these ingredients to verify their safety and their effectiveness. Okay, And as I understand it, emily other countries actually have better safety rules for sunscreens than we do. Why are we far behind? Some of the differences with the US and other countries, and particularly the EU,

is that sunscreens are regulated as over the counter drugs. We're in most parts of the world otherwise they're regulated as cosmetics. Since they're regulated as drugs, the approval process for new ingredients is a lot slower. So we've not seen any new ingredients on the market since the nineteen ninety even though, like you said, there are better ingredients elsewhere in the world that are in products that are safer for people, that provide better protection, but we don't have access

to them in the US. Okay, So we know summer's coming up, a lot of people are going to be spending a lot of time outdoors. So when they're buying sunscreen, what are some things that they should they should check the label, and what are some things they should look for, and is there anything they should specifically avoid When buying sunscreens. They should look for an SPI value between thirty and fifty. It's our recommendation to ensure that you're

getting adequate protection. Look for mineral sunscreens, so again those sunscreens that might contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Zinc oxide has been shown to provide good protection from both UVA and UVB rays. And we also recommend that people look for lotions and sticks rather than spray because with the sprays it's a little bit more difficult to make sure you're getting enough product to get the protection that you

need to from that from that spray sunscreen. And they're also concerns about inhalation and just other health concerns with spray sunscreened. So again, looking for an SPS value between thirty and fifty, looking for zinc oxide on the label, and option for a lotion or a stick. I totally get it about the spray sunscreens, but I love the spray sunscreens because they're easier to put on.

But yeah, I'll watch for that and so lotions for sure. And is zinc oxide still just white or do they have it so it's not white anymore? There have been improvements in the technology for zinc oxide ingredients, so you can find products that don't give as much of a white cat anymore. I know that's the association that a lot of people think of when they think of mineral sunscreens. Really, the technology and innovation has really developed that they're

a lot better, more preferable to use. Okay, good information as we head into the summer season. Thank you so much. Emily Spilman with the Environmental Working Group. Is there a website that someone can go and get more information about this. Yes, they can go to EWG dot org slash sunscreen EWG dot org slash sunscreen. See that's easy. Emily, thank you so much for your time and sharing this important information. Thank you all right,

appreciate it. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour news room. President Biden has joined other world leaders in France to mark the eightieth anniversary of D Day. The Winehill says it's a chance for him to engage with the number of US allies attending the anniversary events, including Ukrainian President Zelenski. A plan to reduce the number of la City council meetings has been rejected for now. The city charter mandates that the city council meet three times week. Councilman Katie Arslovsky said Tuesday, that's too much. It takes away from time in the district

and committee meetings. By giving us the flexibility to set the frequency of council meetings, we can ensure that committee meetings are proceeding without interruptions when they're supposed to start. She proposed having voters decide in November as part of a broader set of charter reforms on the ballot, but the council decided to send the

issue for review by the Charter Reform Commission. Michael Monks KFI News. Florida Governor Rond DeSantis is expected to approve a seventeen billion dollar investment deal with Disney World. The agreement comes after a month's long legal fight between his office and Disney. The deal would include new additions to the theme park, with the approval to build a fifth major park and two more minor parks inside Disney World over the next decade or two. It would also secure commitments from Disney to

develop housing for its workers. Okay, time to talk about something tasty. A bakery in Inglewood, known for its red velvet cupcakes and Southern desserts, is opening another location in Pasadena. The owner of Sweet Red Peach says. The new bakery will be across the street from Houston's on a Royal Parkway at Delmar Boulevard. It's set to open in August or September.
