You're listening to KFI AM six forty wake Up Call with me Amy King on demand on the iHeartRadio app KFI hand KOST HD two, Los Angeles, Orange County. It's time for your morning wake up call. Here's Amy King. Good morning, Happy home Day. It's five o'clock on your wake up call for Wednesday, January tenth. I'm Amy King. Thanks for getting your day started today. I was watching the news. Everybody's freaking out because of the weather kind of across the US. But there have been tornadoes, snow,

rain, wind. But as the as the people are sitting there doing their stand ups, the report going there's snow in Iowa. I'm like, it's January. Of course there's snow in Iowa. And the rain and the wind. It's a normal thing. The tornado's not so good. Some tornadoes hit down in the South, I think in the Panhandle of Florida. God, they do a lot of damage. And we've got to speaking of damage,

we could have some damage coming. We got some strong, strong, gusty winds coming thirty to forty miles an hour expected to blow today, gusting sixty to seventy miles per hour. So what the umbrella is down. Put away the pool furniture, Otherwise it could be gone. Here's what's ahead on wake up call. The LA County District Attorney's Office has decided not to file fel

any domestic violence charges against former Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias. He's accused of getting into a violent confrontation with a woman believed to be his wife outside an LAFC soccer match in September. The case has been sent to the La City Attorney's Office, which now consider misdemeanor charges. Nearly seven hundred flights have been canceled

already today as storms batter the US. We're just talking about that. At least four people have been killed as severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, damaging winds, and baseball sized hail move across the US. Ever seen baseball sized hail. It's the size of a baseball, crazy and it's like they're repelting you. I've seen people just running for cover. The biggest I've ever seen is about probably pingpong size, but it still hurts. A Napa Valley winery has turned

to AI with its robot samlier called Robovino. Mario Kennetti Winery owner Maria Resnicosa says the winery has seen the thirty percent increase in foot traffic since robo Vino started assisting customers with tastings. Critics say there's no way a robot can replicate a human's expertise with wine, and says it is just a passing fact. We shall see at six o five its handle on the news. The World Economic Forum says we're at risk of a global catastrophe within the next ten years.

Not a great way to start today. Bill's going to dig into that. Let's get started with some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. Boeing's CEO has used the word mistake when talking about the Alaska Airlines flight that had to make an emergency landing after a door plug blew out. Dave Calhoun says they're going to approach the situation with complete transparency every step of the way. Gonna work with the NTSB, who is investigating the

accident itsself, to find out what the leak cause is. Calhoun says all seven thirty seven Max nine planes with door plugs are grounded until the FAA inspects them. The flight from Portland to Ontario on Friday, was carrying one hundred and seventy seven people when part of the plane detached. Nobody was killed and

nobody was seriously hurt. Thieves in California could soon pay a higher price for retail theft only mean James Ramos has introduced a bill that would have thieves with at least two prior theft convictions facing up to three years in jail for retail theft. California law currently does not assess prior convictions when classifying theft of up to nine hundred and fifty dollars as a misdemeanor. The bill would need to be approved by the legislature, governor, and then voters to become law.

Ramo says shoplifting and smash and grabs are endangering customers and store employees. Blake Trolly k if I News. Two men have been charged with sexual assault in separate cases out of Culver City and Long Beach, Ella County. DA George Gascone says one man broke into a home in Culver City last month and allegedly raped a twelve year old girl while her parents were in the house. Because the victim was told that there was a man with a gun outside and that

her family would be killed if she reported. The family was unaware of what was going on. Under the victims letter, the second man allegedly impersonated a police officer in Long Beach and sexually assaulted a woman in his car in late December. Relise say both men have criminal histories and there are likely other victims. I'm super excited about this one. It should always be not that one. Ok Okay, I am super excited about this one, as it should

always be the foundlings of the future. This is the way, This is the way, This is the way. Here's something that's on the way. A new Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, will be the first big screen film in the Star Wars universe since twenty nineteens The Rise of Skywalker. Jon Favreau, who created the Mandalorian series for Disney Plus, is set to direct the movie. Production is set to start later this year. Can't

wait Love the Mandalorian. Let's say good morning now to ABC's White House correspondent Karen Travers. Karen, I think what we can say is what we have here is a failure to communicate. Secretary. Yeah, and so many questions. Yeah, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has a serious health issue, and no one, including the White House knew about it until yesterday. Well, they knew about it before, but we didn't even know what it was until

yesterday. So tell us what it is and why we're just finding out now. Yeah, the same Secretary of Rydustin has prostate cancer, and his recent hospitalization, which was kept sacred for days, we now know is due to a urinary tracts infection and intestinal complication following what his doctors called a minimally invasive surgery to treat and cure his cancer. He was initially went into the hospital

back in December. He was diagnosed in early December with prostate cancer. He underwent general anesthesia for a procedure on December twenty second, and recovered uneventfually, according to his doctors. He returned home the next morning, but then on January first, he was readmitted to the hospital because of complications nausea and pain in his stomach, hip, and leg, and the doctors say that that

revealed a urinary tract infection. The next day, January second, further evaluation revealed abdominal fluid collections and then he was treated with a non surgical drain placement, so he had still hospitalized, and the White House, as we now know, didn't know until last Thursday that he was in the hospital, So it took several days after he had gone into the complications for the White House to be informed. We learned yesterday that they didn't know until yesterday, five

days later, that he was being treated for prostate cancer. So five days went by from the time the President was informed Wood Austin was in the hospital before he was told that his Defense secretary has prostate cancer. A lot of questions at the White House yesterday about the process here the timeline of who was informed and how. John Kirby said bluntly that this was not optimal. As

he put it, this is not the way it's supposed to happen. The President understands that, okay, So, like you said, not optimal. There are so many things that went wrong here. So going all the way back to the first surgery when he was put up in general anesthesia, isn't

there something that he should have to tell somebody? I know, like, if the president goes under anesthesia, he has to sign over power to the Vice President and Lloyd Austin is in the line of succession, yes, yes, and even just the chain of command of delegating that down to the next person and deputy at the Pentagon. Should something happen, you know, if you are called to the situation room while you are under general anesthesia, should

there be a tack here. There's so many scenarios of if you know, the phone rings, then you are needed, but the White House doesn't know that you are getting a procedure done it while to read and you are incapacitated at that point because you are under general anesthesia. There are a lot of problems there. And you know, we had all those questions yesterday, the

Pentagon Press Corps asking all those questions yesterday. They are not getting into, you know, the answers of how it will be fixed yet because they say there is a review underway. The Pentagon is going over its procedure and process to make sure to see how this could have happened and to prevent it from happening again. The White House has now ordered a review of Cabinet protocols for delegating authority. So if there is any situation where an agency or department anticipates

delegating authority because a Cabinet secretary is unable to do their duties. The White House needs to know about that. And you know, the question I think yesterday was like, but shouldn't have already have been in place? And would the something violated in this process? Like did they do something that violated what

was already on paper? The White House would not say that yesterday. You know, the question I asked, which was just on a basic human level, is when the President was told last Thursday afternoon that Wood Austin was in the hospital, didn't he ask why? And did the Pentagon not tell the White House why? Because how do they not know why until Tuesday? Exactly?

There's just, like you said, there's just so many things that went wrong with this, and hopefully they'll get it straightened out, because I mean, luckily nothing super serious happened, and I'm so happy to hear that he's expected to make a full recovery and all of that. But wow, that just puts us in a bad place. Yeah, all right, Karen Travers, thank you so much for the information, and you keep asking those questions. We'd love to see it with you calm resotely all right, take care

a great day, thanks too. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour news room. A high surf advisory has been issued for La County beaches, the Malibu Coast, and Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands. Officials say waves up to nine feet are possible. They say dangerous rip currents and some minor coastal flooding also likely. They've warned people to stay out of the water. The advisory is in effect from three to

day until noon tomorrow. Too cold to be in the water anyway. A winter storm is moving into northern California. It's expected to pack a lot of snow, so we're expecting major travel impacts, delays, chain controls, and even potentially some road closures just given how heavy those snow rates are expected to be. Meteorologist Craig Shoemaker says ten to fourteen inches of snow are possible in cities like Truckee. In South Lake Tahoe, conditions should improve on Thursday.

The system is a quick moover and it should dry out Thursday, but they'll have there'll be a lot of snow removal that'll be needed after the storm. Freezing cold temperatures are expected to settle in in northern California you see Irvine. Researchers say hiring more staff is not enough to overcome a continuing quality of care

disparity for dementia patients in nursing homes. The study called for specialized training for staff to be prepared for the wide ranging needs of dementia and Alzheimer's patients, who make up almost half of nursing homes. Professor Dana Muchemel says high staff turnover is also an issue. If every day you have a different staff person coming into your womb for a person with dementia, it's very difficult to deal with this and they tend to get agitated. They might be behavioral problems.

She says, more staff is important, but so always responding to a patient who can't communicate well, or bathe, dress, or eat on their own. In Orange County, Corbin Carson k if I need a couple hundred illegal immigrants per day have been sleeping at the San Diego airport. If San Diego tries to find places for them to stay, the migrants are staying two to three days at a time and are getting food and medical attention from a couple

nonprofit groups. Seventy thousand migrants have been dropped off in San Diego since the current surge started in September. About three thousand have arrived just this week. McDonald's is bringing back the double Big Mac. That's four all beef patties, not two special Sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, and assesame seed button. The Double Big Mac was first introduced in twenty twenty. It'll return in two weeks. The price of the burger will vary based on individual

restaurants. Four all beef patties, that's crazy. Tonight, the Clippers take on the Toronto Raptors at Crypto dot com, with tip off at seven thirty on your home of Clippers Baseball not baseball. Maybe I'm wishful thinking Clippers basketball. It's at am five seventy LA Sports, which is also the home to Dodger's Baseball. God to you by your Southern California Toyota dealers. We make it easy. Dangerous, potentially damaging winds are expected to blow into southern California

today and tomorrow. A high wind warning will it be in effect from four this afternoon until noon tomorrow, thirty to forty mile per hour winds with gus sixty to seventy miles per hour are expected. The Santa Clarita Valley could see gusts isolated gus up to about eighty miles per hour. Yikes. House Republicans are getting ready to hold the president's son Hunter in contempt of Congress for defying

a subpoena to appear for a closed door deposition. The committees leading the impeachment inquiry into President biden Or scheduled to vote today on bringing the contempt resolution for a full House vote. Plans to send astronauts to the Moon have been delayed. NASA announced yesterday that the Artemis two mission with a crew on board, which is set for November, is being pushed back to September of twenty twenty five. Then Artemis three, the mission to have astronauts walk on the Moon,

has been pushed back to September of twenty twenty five. Six at six oh five, it's handle on the news. California's state controller must really hate people and make a lot of money. She wants to go after the Dodgers New Stars show. Hey Otani we'll take a look at that. Right now, let's say good morning to the host of Rich on Tech on KFI and KTLA's tech reporter Rich DeMuro coming to us from Sin City and CEES, and good morning to you, Amy. I think most of Sin City is still

asleep at this hour, but not you. Not you, because you're excited because it's Tech Central in Las Vegas right now for CEES. That's right, this is CS twenty twenty four. It is back in a big way. One hundred and thirty thousand people from over forty countries are expected to be here this week, and it shows the show floor is pact. There's a lot of people and a lot of stuff to see. Okay, so Rich you said one hundred and thirty thousand people are they are there just like people like

me there? Or is it all people like you, like tech people, tech reporters, that kind of thing. Well, there's a whole different you know, they cross the whole spectrum. So you've got journalists, then you've got companies that are trying to show off their stuff to both journalists but also investors, but also people like Best Buy that come in and say, oh, that's a cool accessory. Let me stock it in my store. So there's a whole range of people. It is not open to the public,

so you can't just come here. Although I keep pressing cees to say, hey, you can make gobs more money by just opening up one day of this show to the public, letting them in charging a ticket price, But so far they have not done that, and they don't really need to because there's just so many people in this tech industry from around the world that come here to meet, greet, and of course there's lots of parties and events and it's just a whole tech circus here. Oh yeah, huge parties.

I've been to CES before and yeah, it's like comic Con for tech people. Yeah, and it's fun. It's you know, you've got a whole bunch of like minded people in one place that all meet once a year. So not only do you get to see all your friends, but you get to meet the people that you talk about. So all these companies like cover throughout the year, you actually get to meet with the people behind those companies

if you hadn't seen them in person before. So u Plus you get to see new stuff that's going to come out over the scope of the next year, potentially never sometimes with a lot of this conceptual stuff. But no matter what, you get to see the trends. You get to see what's happening, and I always have a pretty good time. I would imagine that you do. Now, one company that's not actually there is getting some of the

biggest buzzz I know. Isn't this wild? Leave it to Apple to release the press release on the first day of CEES, saying, hey, by the way, Apple Vision pro our new reality headset is going to launch in the US on February second. Three orders are going to open. I think this is next Friday, January nineteenth. This is their thirty five hundred dollars headset. It's going to cost an extra one hundred dollars to one hundred and

fifty dollars if you need prescription glasses. But it's like having a four K TV on each I and yes, I've had this thing on my head. It is incredible. Thirty five hundred dollars. It's going to be a tough sell for the average person, but this probably will change the industry once again towards more augmented reality and virtual reality. Okay, so you said you've had the thing on your head, and it's spectacular. So what does it look

like? I mean, is it does it look like real or does it look animated like some other VR sets or give us give us a little let's put it this way. Apple tricked me. So they put this thing on my head, and I thought it was clear glass because I just saw the room that I was sitting in. And then all of a sudden, it started writing three D words in the middle of the living room that they were just floating in mid air, and I said, oh, that's what you

just did. So the cameras are that clear where I literally thought I was just sitting in the same room I was in, but it was actually being projected onto my eyes through cameras on the front of this thing. It's actually there's no see through lens on this even though it looks like you can see the person's eyes that are inside of it, it's completely closed off. And you know, they've got lots of cameras, lots of my for phones on this thing, lots of sensors use your hands to control it, which is

different from a lot of the other ones. It's done really well. Again, it's very expensive, but this is just the beginning. Hopefully they can figure out a way to get the developers on board, get the apps that we want to do, get the entertainment, and cheaper versions will follow. Okay, yeah, I just I've put VR sets on and they are pretty cool, like you play a little game. We went to the Some Dinos Alive exhibit and we were throwing bones to velociraptors and I was like, this

is so cool. I would imagine that that is very very rudimentary compared to what you're seeing now. It's about twenty five thousand times that. So for this one, this demo, they had a dinosaur come out of the wall that I was able to get up out of my seat, step up and pet the dinosaur. Now, obviously I couldn't feel it, but it was that real where it felt like it was right there in front of me coming

out of the wall. I mean, it's really quite incredible. I assume that you'll be able to test these out in this store, you know, but they are going to be in all the Apple stores at least to purchase. I assume they're going to have some sort of demo, and I think there's going to be a pretty long line for that. Yeah, and when are they going to be available? So February second, they are launching in

the stores. People can order them site on scene January nineteenth. Okay, so let's talk about some of the other really cool things you've seen as you've perused the conference floor. Yeah. So one thing that's just getting you know, this is kind of like epitomizes cees. You don't really need it, but it's here. It's one hundred and thirty seven inch unfolding TV. What this is from a company named c Seed. I don't know what this is

all about, but basically it's a giant TV. You put it in your house and they said, you know, this is for like super super ultra rich people that have like a penthouse that have windows that they don't want to block with the TV and so it folds up so you get less coverage there. And is it like the it's one hundred Is it like the foldable phone where the screen goes is you know no, er, no, not really because this this is actually it looks like four separate screens that just could sort

of accordion fold inwards. It happens in ninety seconds. It's one hundred and fifty thousand dollars and is uh you know, yeah, this is not something we're buying anytime soon. But again, it's just one of those things that's on my Instagram atverage on tech. You just have to see it and say, Okay, now I know that exists in our world. Okay, what else, let's see what else did I see? Oh? This was actually

really cool. You know this idea of like home health checkups doing all this stuff that you know, you go to the doctor, they take two readings and you're like, oh, I have to drive all the way over here for that. Yeah. So we're getting more into telehealth and Whippings has this new thing called Demo, which feels like a very futuristic device. It's a four and one device that combines a thermometer, heart reading so ECG, blood

oxygen readings, and a stethoscope. So the idea here is it can not only measure all this stuff temperature, heart rate, blood oxygen, your lung and heart sounds, but you can save all this stuff to the app and if you do, like a telehealth appointment with your doctor, you can say all right, now put the doethoscope here or here or here or here and I can see the readings from that over the internet. I mean, it's

pretty cool. It's gonna be two hundred and fifty dollars. Obviously, if you have some sort of chronic illness or asthma or something where you're constantly taking these types of readings, this is a really useful device and could be really fun for hypochondriacs too. Yeah, you know all this stuff. Just just google, just google anything, and you're gonna die. That's the main thing.

You know that, all right? And then away from CES, you went and saw the sphere and I would love to hear about that, because it just every time I see it, I'm just amazed. Looking at it from the outside. Yes, we've all seen the outside. It's the world's largest spherical structure, five hundred and sixteen feet wide, three hundred and sixty six feet tall, five hundred and eighty thousand little led bulbs on the outside

that they program into all kinds of fund images and videos. But when you're inside sixteen by sixteen k screen, it is it's a dome kind of effect and it is just wild. Let me put it this way. The video that they have to shoot there like to shoot the movies for this thing. Your iPhone could record four point seven seconds of that, so it is very high quality. It's quite impressive. Now, I didn't get to watch an

actual movie on it yesterday. I'm doing that later this week. But the entire experience, I can tell you if you come to Vegas, you have to do it because it starts in the lobby, you talk to robots and it just continues. It's quite quite incredible. Okay, Well, Rich, I'm gonna let you loose because I think you got a lot more exploring to do, and then you can give us the latest. And I want to find out next week from you what your favorite thing was that you found at

CES. I will come up with the list. Hey, great, thank you so much. Of course, you can watch Rich on KTLA all the time. You can also hear him weekends here on KFI. It's Rich on Tech. Thanks so much. Rich, Thanks Amy. Have a great day, all right you too. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. People who live in Orange County are trying to stop the Irvine Company from building hundreds of homes in a wildlife

corridor. The Irvine Company is planning to build more than eleven hundred homes on four hundred acres of land in the city of Orange, where many different animals live. Joel Robinson, with a No Orange Heights campaign, says the project would prevent the animals from using Irvine Park and Peters Canyon, so it would block their access or completely eradicate their ability to find food, shelter, and all of that. Robinson says the location of the property would also put people

in a hotspot for potential wildfires. The Irvine company says the project is the product of a collaboration with the community. Chris Sadler KFI News, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, and Florida Governor Ronda Santis are getting ready for a one on one Republican presidential debate in Iowa. The Iowa Republican Caucus is next week. Former President Trump will not be at tonight's debate. He'll be at a Fox News Channel town hall at the same time. Also in Des Moines,

the Securities and Exchange Commission says its verified x account has been hacked. The sec account posted a tweet yesterday that said the regulator had approved a bitcoin exchange trade fund that caused the cryptocurrency's value to spike briefly. It dropped back down when the SEC chairman posted a tweet clarifying the account had been compromised. Nearly seven hundred flights have already been canceled today as deadly storms batter the US.

At least four people have been killed as severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, damaging winds, and baseball sized hail move across the US, and not great news for people across much of the US because another storm system is about to move through. A judge in l Las Vegas has set bail at seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars for the man charged in the nineteen ninety six murder of rapper Tupac Shakur. Dwayne Davis's attorney argued there's no evidence to suggest his client is a

flight risk and asked him to be released on his own recognissance. Prosecutors say Davis is a danger to the public. Walmart is turning to artificial intelligence to help online shoppers. The retailer has unveiled two new AI powered search tools. The unveiling happen at CES in Las Vegas. The tools are designed to help shoppers find products quicker and automate the process of reordering frequently purchased items. It's available to iOS users now and will be available on Android later this year.

At six o five. It is handled on the news, Republicans continue to fight against expanding the IRS by cutting some of the new funding for the IRS in a new budget deal. Aami's on it, Damie's on this, as on it, Damie's on it. What am I on? I'm on lots and lots of streaming shows. There's so much content out there, It's like,

how do you know what to watch? And a lot of times I take recommendations from friends or co workers, and so that's what I'm hoping to do for you, is give you my recommendation and some of the good things and maybe some of the things that you just might want to pass up on because there's a lot out there. So today I'm on Opposites. We're going to look at two different shows, one Leave the World Behind and two Christopher Robin. I know they sound like opposites right out of the get go,

and they are. So I was doing my traditional diving down a rabbit hole, and when I start watching things, then that leads me to other things as I'm binging shows over the weekend, and we had talked to Jason Nathanson about Leave the World Behind, and so I wanted to take a look at it because he didn't really give a lot of details about it, which to me is usually a good thing because you know, you don't want to give away the whole plot. But I will tell you that the movies on Netflix.

It starts Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawk, Mahersha Ali, and Kevin Bacon's in a part of it, So I'm like, okay, star studed cast, isn't this great? And Julia Roberts and her family live in New York City and within the first five minutes they establish that it's really crappy in the city. They want to get away from it all, and so Julia Roberts's character rents an airbnb for her and her husband and her family for the weekend so they can have this getaway. And it all starts out great, but

very quickly turns very creepy. The movie itself doesn't move fast. It's a very slow moving, non action packed movie, but a lot of little creepy things start happening, like computers start working and cell service isn't working, and then the Internet goes down and the TVs aren't working, and then animals start acting strange and this all happens pretty early on, and you're like, what is going on? Is it cyber attack? Is it an em? I mean, like what is going on? And so you kind of through the

movie or watching to see what's going on. And as the family settles in, a father and daughter who claimed that they own the home that the Julia Robertson her family are renting show up and then that unfolds the whole different set of circumstances and the movie feels like get Out. You remember that movie, really creepy movie didn't really necessarily move that fast, but you just had this foreboding sense of negati negativism. It had that same vibe. And what I

hated about it is there's no hope, there's no redemption. The characters aren't really likable. And I love Julia Roberts. She does a good job playing an unlikable character, and the movie kind of leaves you feeling empty and unsettled. And maybe that's the intention of it, but I mean, so it was interesting to watch, probably not going to go down on my list of favorites, and if you want to feel good about the world, this is

not the movie to watch. On the flips. There's Christopher Robin stirring Ewan McGregor and I don't know how in the world I miss that. So it's a live action when of Disney's live actions, but it doesn't follow a storyline of like Little Mermaid follows the animated storyline pretty closely. This is Ewan McGregor

as Christopher Robin, and he's all grown up. He's left Pooh behind and the one hundred acre would so it's a rather slow paced movie, but it's kind of like Hook, Like Christopher Robbin has grown up and remember when Peter Pan had grown up and forgotten never never Land and all that stuff. But Christopher Robin gets reinduced to his child reintroduced to his childhood friend Winnie the Pooh.

And then there's also e Or and Piglet, and they've done the animation like remember Ted the movie with the stuffed animal with the really foul mouth. Well it's like that, except you know, it's winning the poos, So he's adorable and cute and huggable and the animation or however, they do that is it's so amazing that I'm just transfixed with it the whole movie and thinking, Oh, with AI, they're going to have those kind of animals like that come to life in the next five years. But anyway, the story

is very sweet, the message is hopeful. Ewan McGregor of course has some sort of a revelation and remembers what it was like to be a kid when he was Christopher Robin the child in the Hundred Acre Wood. Like I said, the animation is spectacular, and of course his Tigger in it, and Tigger is my absolute favorite, and he is so cute in this movie. So you know, if you want to curl up and watch a happy and a feel good movie, that's going to make you smile just a little bit.

Christopher Robin. So those are the opposites for Amy's on it this week. Let's get back to some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four hour newsroom. La County DA's office has declined to file felony charges against Dodger's pitcher Julio Urias for his arrest on suspicion of domestic violence. Orius was placed on administratively eve in September after he allegedly got into a fight with his wife outside BMO Stadium and pushed her against defence, pulled her by the hair

or shoulders. He hasn't been with the Dodgers since. His case will now go to the City Attorney's office for possible misdemeanor charges. The La County DA had said that the evidence just didn't warrant charging him with a felony. Investigators in Riverside are trying to identify the last of eight women murdered thirty one years ago by the so called Happy Face Killer. The tragedy of it all,

not knowing if possibly she was a mom. Riverside County Sheriff's investigator Amy Contrera says Keith Jesperson picked up the woman near Victorville, not knowing why she was there, why she was hitch hiking. Riverside County DA Mike Kestron says the woman's about twenty to thirty years old, with shaggy blonde hair, about five foot six, one hundred and forty five pounds, and had two small dots tattooed on her right thumb. In every case murder case cold cases, we

never stopped just percent is serving multiple life sentences. Corbin Carson kf I News. A woman at Massachusetts accused of trying to poison her husband has denied any wrongdoing. Did not try to poison my husband, Roxanne du Set says her husband probably just had a stroke. They have no sayings at the hospital. Everything was negative. Well, the report was negative. Paul Ducet was only

tested for opioids, cocaine, and alcohol. Police say they found texts between Roxanne and someone she thought was soap opera star thorsten Ka talking about collecting life insurance. They say one text said she was making soup with a special potion. The second Wednesday of January is National Take the Stairs Day. The American Lung Association says the walking holiday should encourage folks to skip the elevator while staying

fit. Health officials say stair climbing supports lung health, blood circulation, and prevents the risk of stroke. Always a good idea to take the stairs. Try to do it whenever I can skip that elevator. I want to tell you about something. I don't know if you've been to a museum recently,

but I just recently started going to museums around LA. One of my favorites is the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, and right now LA museums are doing free museum days for parts of and a couple of them have already passed, like at Norton Simon that was last weekend, but there's free admission to museums around LA this month. The Holocaust Museum is free this weekend, next weekend

and the weekend after that. The Museum of Latin America, or of Latin American Art rather is free this weekend, next weekend and the weekend after that, so the last three weekends of the year. Desconzo Gardens, which again you might recall we went out there for Enchanted, which was fabulous for the holidays. That's free this weekend, and it is so so beautiful, and it's supposed to be sunny, so I think it might be a nice nice You might want to bundle up because it's not gonna be super warm, but

maybe head out to Desconzo Gardens and just wander around. And also the La Arboretum and Botanic Garden, which was another place where we went out and saw a fabulous night LightScape show for the holidays, that is also free. Both of those are free on January sixteenth, and again it's free Museum Days in LA. When we come back, we're going to play the what if game

when it comes to presidential politics. This should be fun. This Saturday, starting a one point thirty, don't miss any of the AFC Wildcard NFL playoff games featuring the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texas, followed by the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs. At five. You can listen to the games on AM five seventy LA Sports presented in part by Rotolo Chevrolet. See what all the fun is about at Rotolo Chevrolet. Dangerous potentially damaging winds are expected to blow

into southern California today and tomorrow. A high wind warning will be in effect from four this afternoon until noon tomorrow, with thirty four to forty mile per hour winds expected and GUS sixty to seventy miles per hour possible. Drivers have been urged to avoid traveling through the mountains today unless it's absolutely necessary. Riverside County Lawmaker Bill as Sale is introducing a bill that would stop undocumented residents in

California from getting access to taxpayer funded health insurance. He says it's unconscionable to spend billions of taxpayer dollars to give universal healthcare to illegal immigrants when citizens can't even afford their own healthcare. The next major phase of moving the retired Space Shuttle Endeavor into launch position at the California Science Center starts today. Cruz will be working to slowly move the massive external fuel tank about one thousand feet through

Exhibition Exhibition Park, and then we'll lift it into vertical position. The rocket motors for the shuttle are already upright, and then the shuttle itself will be moved next. We're just minutes away from handling the news this morning. We now know that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has prostate cancer. What we don't know is why it took so long for Austin to share that information with the White House. Let's say good morning now to ABC's senior elections analyst Jeffrey Scaley.

Good morning, Jeffrey, Hey, good morning, Thanks for having me so anytime. Right now, it looks like President Biden and former President Trump are going to be the two who face off in the race for the White House. But we're going to play a little game of what if and let it tell us, Jeffrey, what do you see happening if a major party drops

candidate drops out of the race. Yes, I mean, look, it's on a lot of people's minds because President Biden is eighty one and former President Trump is seventy seven, and you know, they were already the oldest presidents elected when they won in twenty sixteen and twenty twenty, so, you know, so it's a concern that shows up in polling people especially I think Biden is too old to be a president, and many think Trump is too old

to president. So something could happen to health crisis, what have you. So, in terms of what happens if one of them drops out, a lot depends on the timing. For Republicans, you know, Trump were to something happened to him tomorrow and he had to drop out of the race. You know, you have Ron DeSantis Nikki Haley, two notable, well funded candidates running for president. I think even though it'd be a shock, I think the primary would probably proceed a pace somewhat like we're used to on the

Democratic side, though President Biden doesn't really have any major competition. I mean, Dean Phillips and Mary and Williamson are running against him. But Biden is you know, basically a lock to win renomination unless something happens to him. So you know that that that creates more of an issue for Democrats. Okay, and put on along with Trump, which is unlikely that he would drop out of the race because of health, but could because of health issues.

He also has his legal issues, but that's nobody really thinks that that would stop him, right right. Look with the legal issues, you know, look, Trump could be convicted of something, but it's extremely unlikely that he would be in jail before the election. And even then if that were to somehow happen, he could still run for president. There is president for that.

Socialist candidate Eugene Debs in nineteen twenty ran for president from jail, So you know that that in and of itself would not would not keep him from running. Okay, Now, on the Democrats side, like you said, there is no heir apparent there. I mean, the other option is Kamala Harris, which her ratings are lower than Biden's ratings. There's Governor Newsom's name

has been bandied about, but still playing the one what if game. If President Biden said I'm not running or something happened and he wasn't able to run, could we even get those other people on the ballot before the election? Right? So, look, Kamala Harris is vice president, is sort of a clear alternative for Democrats if some sort of crisis with Biden popped up, right, So she'd be sort of a safe harbor in a time of uncertainty

on the nomination front. But I think a lot does depend on, you know, how how soon does something like that happen, Because you're exactly right, the primary finally filing deadline so to get your name on the ballot has now passed in more than half of states, and very quickly you will have

very few states left. And also with our nomination process, in terms of allocating delegates through election results, by mid March, both parties will have allocated more than half, which means you can't win a majority if you're if you're

another candidate on the ballot. So you know, you could try to run as a writing candidate, but it gets very hard to do it via the ballot quickly, and so a lot would come down to what do delegates on the Democratic side who are allocated to Joe Biden, what do they do? And so that you know, in large part a lot of them would be

free agents headed into the Democrat National Convention. And so you know, if something happened in April or May, you could imagine a scenario where if there are concerns about Kamala Harris as the presidential nominee, that you could have someone like a Newsom or someone else trying to run a campaign that is very unfamiliar with us today because this is the way our primary system works now, but one that in the past would have been quite normal, which is reaching out

to delegates trying to get them to support you when it actually comes to a vote on the floor of the convention. Yeah. Well, and I know that we're just playing the what if game, but as we're seeing kind of anything can happen, and we'll be watching for the next ten months because I

think it's going to be really interesting whatever happens. Yes, I think twenty twenty four is going to be very interesting one way or the other, and probably especially for you, Jeffrey, because you're a senior elections analyst, so this is right in your wheelhouse. So I hope we get to talk to you lots more as we make our way through the election season. Sounds great, all right, so much, Thanks so much. Let's get back to

some of the stories coming out of the KFI twenty four our newsroom. The Pentagon has confirmed SEP Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was admitted to the ICU because of complications from treatment for prostate cancer. He had a urinary tract infection and

intestinal complications from surgery on December twenty second. Pentagon spokesman Major General Patrick Ryder says the White House and the Pentagon didn't learn the medical details until Tuesday morning while Austin was still at Walter Reed Medical Center, and do not have any information to provide in terms of when he might be released from the hospital, but will be sure to keep you updated and until then we will continue to

release daily status updates on his condition. The White House has ordered a review of Cabinet protocols for delegating authority. A seventy one year old man who spent forty years in federal prison for robbing for banks has been arrested in Sun Valley for bank robbery. The LAPD says Edward Bell walked into a bank on Vineland Avenue with a gun last month, grabbed an employee and forced the worker to restricted access door. Police say he threatened to shoot the employee if he wasn't

allowed in. He got away with more than sixty thousand dollars. The two thousand and one dance pop song Murder on the Dance Floor has made its Billboard Hot one hundred debut, twenty three years after it was released. The song featured in Emerald Fennel's twenty twenty three film Saltburn, at number ninety eight on the chart this week. The new popularity stems from actor Barry Cogan's nude dance sequence in the movie, where he waltzes around an estate. Does the song

plays. Billboard says the song had three point nine million streams in the US and a ninety two percent increase in sales from December twenty ninth to January fourth.
