જ્યારે કોઈ વ્યક્તિ તેના તમામ પાપો અને તેના દ્વારા જાણતા-અજાણતા કરેલા તમામ ખરાબ કાર્યોમાંથી મુક્તિ મેળવવા માંગે છે, ત્યારે આ વ્રત રાખવામાં આવે છે. કહેવાય છે કે આ વ્રત રાખવાથી વ્યક્તિ જન્મ-મરણના બંધનમાંથી મુક્ત થઈ જાય છે.
When a person wants to get free from all his sins and all bad deeds done by him knowingly or unknowingly, this vrat is kept. it is said by keeping this fast one gets free from the bond of birth and death.
