Episode description

How do we to respond when great Bible promises just don’t seem to work? Tim Meulhoff specifically cites a passage that often falls into this category -- Philippians 4:4-7. These verses suggest the lessening of anxiousness when one prays for ‘everything’ with ‘thanksgiving’. Anxiousness, however, often remains. Tim proposes that we are not fully praying the way prescribed by the apostle Paul in this passage. Perhaps, we too often pray casually and quickly when we should also have times of more serious and highly focused communication with God. He delves into praying with preparative thought and reverence, as well as the engagement of our physical bodies in a more determined manner. Tim also addressed the ‘thanksgiving’ aspect of prayer, guiding us to find thanksgiving beyond material, physical, and relational circumstances. Happiness and joy can be found even in the worst of circumstances when one acknowledges and expresses gratitude for spiritual blessings such as God’s unconditional love, being more than conquerors, our hope eternal, and the nearness of God.
