#138 Daan Roosegaarde - Making beautiful things even if nobody cares

In this episode we talk about art and beauty as a strategy to help people accept and generate change, the role of the artist as leader in addressing complex problems and as enabler to transcend our linear way of thinking. We also talk about artificial intelligence and the evolving significance we give to light and darkness. The future of design must understand that we are not doing human-centered design but life-centered design, which will keep reevaluating man´s hierarchy in the intricate web of life. 

Daan does not believe in utopia, but in protopia, which means improving the world one prototype at a time.

Daan Roosegaarde is an internationally acclaimed artist, architect and innovator whose works include SMOG FREE PROJECT (the world's first outdoor air purifier which turns smog into jewellery), SMART HIGHWAY (roads that charge throughout the day and glow at night) and SEEING STARS a project that switches off all the city lights to bring back the stars. 

We first have to imagine a better future and only then can we create it.
