Episode description

INTRODUCING:
VIBES ONLY. First episode drops on January 10, 2024!

ABOUT:
The polls are broken. The stakes are unprecedented. And the future of democracy, like it or not,  hinges on one thing – VIBES. Vibes Only is here to check the vibes of American politics and break down the need-to-know news of the week. And while one of the two major parties in the country has overwhelmingly embraced a right-wing movement whose whole vibe is undermining democracy and social progress, it’s clear we need voices that can meet voters where they are and clearly and effectively call that BS out for what it is.

Co-host Brian Derrick has earned a reputation for his ability to break down political news and define the stakes to his sizable and dedicated social media audience. Co-host Glennis Meagher is a digital media savant who has built platforms to encourage millennials and gen z to engage with politics, some for the first time. Even when the news of the week could easily kill the vibe, Brian and Glennis are like those needed friends that have the unique ability to keep it real AND pull us out of a doom spiral.

New episodes of Vibes Only  will be available on Wednesdays wherever you get your podcasts.

Vibes Only Trailer

Brian Derrick: [00:00:00] American democracy is hanging on by a thread. Its fate, once again, hinges on the outcome of the 2024 election. And that election, like it or not, is going to be determined by vibes only.

Glennis Meagher: Hey, Brian, you know that old saying, would I like to have a beer with this person?

Ron DeSantis: Anybody want a draft on the house?

Elizabeth Warren: Hold on a sec, I'm gonna get me, um, a beer.

Brian Derrick: Aw, let's pour one out for Liz's presidential.

Glennis Meagher: Make mine a nice Pinot Noir.

Brian Derrick: Now, don't get us wrong. Policies matter and have real world consequences in and outside of elections.

Glennis Meagher: On issues like healthcare and climate, for example, the stakes are quite literally life and death.

Brian Derrick: But put simply, for most voters, politics comes down to how candidates are perceived, how authentic they are, and how they're talked about at kitchen tables and online.

Glennis Meagher: In other words, vibes, and the vibes are constantly shifting and can sometimes defy logic.

Brian Derrick: For example, only three years separate Biden and Trump in age, but the discourse would suggest they're of a different generation [00:01:00] entirely because vibes.

Glennis Meagher: And Trump has 91 indictments and counting, but he is not losing Republican support because, well, vibes.

Brian Derrick: So on this pod, we'll check the vibes of American politics, and we'll keep an extra close eye on the right wing extremists whose whole vibe is undermining democracy and restricting our freedoms.

Glennis Meagher: We're talking book bans, a woman's right to choose, LGBTQ rights, and the freedom to literally just exist in public spaces without being shot and killed by someone who has no business owning or possessing a gun.

Brian Derrick: Now that may all sound pretty doom and gloom, but as you can probably tell, that's not our personal vibes. We prefer to keep it light because we believe there's almost always something that can turn the vibe around for a courier.

I'm Brian Derrick

Glennis Meagher: and I'm Glennis Meagher.

Brian Derrick: And on this podcast, we've got only one rule vibes

Glennis Meagher: only.

Brian Derrick: New episodes out on Wednesdays.

Glennis Meagher: Subscribe, ding the bell for notifications, you know, the drill.
