The cultural value of individualism makes it unsurprising that most Americans deem church membership as optional for Christians. According to an annual study by Ligonier Ministries and Lifeway Ministries on the State of Theology 68% of evangelicals believe that every Christian has an obligation to join a local church.

There are a few verses that speak to church membership but in today’s verse will help further answer the question “what is the church?”
