Nigeria’s unchecked population growth over decades has contributed to the crisis of unemployment and poverty. The geometric growth of uneducated and unskilled youth in an already stressed and unproductive economic environment has negative implications for both economy and security. This is already evident in some parts of the country. The population crisis has gone on for too long because of a lack of political will to address it, flowing from sensitivities around culture, religion and politics.
Those were the exact words of Mr Kingsley Moghalu who is a former deputy CBN governor while giving a speech on the way forward for Nigeria at a recent event.
