¶ Opening and Shanti Mantras
Good afternoon. We will start with our Upanishad and Veda class series. Start off with Shanti Mantra Om Sahana Vavato. Terima kasih telah menonton تَيْجَسْوِنَا وَدْهِيْتَمَسْتُمَا وِدْوِشَا وَحَيِي Shanti Shanti Shanti Mm-hmm. Thank you.
¶ Vedas and Their Upanishads
We covered six Shanti Mantras. Each Veda, four Vedas, Rug Veda, Ajar Veda, Sama Veda, Atarva Veda, each Veda has associated Upanishads with them. And the Vedas are one, but for ease of understanding, Bhagavan Veda Vyasa are classified into four categories Rig Veda, Ajurveda, Samaveda and Atarva Veda. and he asked his students uh to propagate uh the Vedas, uh Yajur Veda he gave it to Vaishampayana, Vaishampayana to propagate.
Sumanto para Atarvaveda, Paila para Rigveda, Jaimini para Samaveda, and they propagated. And uh Krishna Ajurveda. Ajurvaeda is classified into two categories, Krishna and Shukla. Krishna is uh meaning uh Krishna Dvipa in a virginal one. And uh Shukla Yajurveda, Shukla Ajurveda it came after it said that uh parampara, that paramparaya Vaishampaya Nas Parampara, his student um He was asked to start his own. He did Upasana on
the Surya Bhagavan he got the Shukla Jirveda got revealed to him. Sama Veda, Chandogya Upanishad, Kena and Thalavakara. Three Upanishads in Samaveda. Sorry, two Vedas. Chandogya and Thalavakara. Chandogya, Kena or Thalavakara, two Upanishads. in Krishna yajurveda has satri upanishad, kato upanishad or kataka upanishad, taytare upanishad, shvetashvatar upanishad. Atarva, Veda, Tri Upanishad, Mundaka, Mandoka and Prasna Upanishad, Orshat Prasna Upanishad.
¶ Prerequisite to Vedic Wisdom
to understand whether one is the prerequisite, is the Gayatriya mantra is a master. before you learn the Gayatriya Mantra is invested For example, in Om Shantidam, we are associated with the start of their course with Uppakarma. uh many people from uh uh not from uh Brahmin category they join but they invest them. Upadesha. First you do the Gaitri mantra, invoke, get the blessing from Surya Bhagavan. This that is the entry point for understanding Vedas.
I can read out of interest from the book. It may not stick. For that one, the intellect got to be illumined. Intellect got to be illumined. Surya upasana is important. Through the Surya Upasana, intellect gets illumined. And um that uh that resulted in Shukla Ajurveda for Yajnavalkya. Last week I touched upon uh discussion between uh Yajnavalkya and um She had a quest for higher knowledge.
When offered with the material wealth, she said since material wealth has its own limitation, when there is a possibility of unlimited, why settle down for limited? Aspiring. Aspiring. Life is nothing but a business. A shrewd businessman invest for with big return. Return on investment is great. She was such a great shrewd business person. She wanted to know anyway everyone is toiling eight hours, ten hours they are toiling where they get maximum return.
She was a very shrewd uh um uh business person. She is uh investing time. I want to get maximum out of my time invested. And Yajnavalkya said that whatever material wealth you are investing, it is confined to this life. but what comes with you is not what your whole life you dedicated you have to leave it behind when you are going you are going broke
I did so business, end of the day when I'm going I'm broke. Yajjavalkya said, you should not go pauper, pauper nothing is there I come here to do some trading get enriched but going empty handed that is not a profitable business He talked about what is the outside, whatever object is there, it is giving a limited happiness. But happiness is not in the object.
but is within you. When the object of happiness is within you and that is the subject That having got that one, whatever is the object, you'll find happiness in that one. he turned her vision inward. Instead of outward, outbound life, he turned inside for profitable business.
¶ Origin Story of Taittiriya Upanishad
From Shukla Azurveda, I talked about smallest of the Upanishad, Isha Vasya, biggest of Upanishads, Vrhadaranyaka came. and another Krishnaya Juruveda Thaitreya Upanishad Thaitreya Upanishad Thittiri, Thittiri means birds. But it means birds, birds are punished from the birds. So this story goes here, the Agni, Agni fire, fire is called as Agni is called as Havyavahana. Havyavahana means fire as a vahana. If you are giving an offering to Indra, you are putting in Agni.
If you are giving an offering to Varuna, you are putting in the Indraya Swaha, Indraya Idam Namama. VARUNAYA SWAH VARUNAYA IDAMMAMA RUDRAYA SWAH RUDRAYA IDAMNAMMAMA Whatever God you are offering, Agni is a postman. He is a postman, he takes it, gives it to the right delivery address. If you offer it to Rudra or Varuna, Aga uh the who or Indra Vayu, he is just a postman. Once it so happened, he said uh he told them, I have been delivering all these messages.
But where is my commission? I need a tip. I need a tip without that one. I have been delivering but there's no tips you're giving. I need a part of whatever I'm bringing. I need some tips out of you. He told Indra, Devendra, Indra said you wanted a tip? Okay, we'll give you part of the offering part, but at the same time Indra cursed him also. Now you are there is no karma yoga, you are asking for a reward for that he cursed him. May you get constipation. Constipation so that you can't take.
टिप पेजदेर बठे कांटे he can't digest, so he had severe constipation and he did not know how to get over it, he went to Brahma, Brahma for a solution. Brahma said, I will tell you Ayurvedic method. There is a khandava vana, the whole forest khandava vana, you have to eat everything. No leftover if you give you the medicine, I don't like this one, I don't like no choice. in entirety you eat that one, your constipation problem will be over. And uh so Agni came to Kandavana, tried to
burn it, but Indra, who was the one who cursed, he would pour water, rain, heavy rain. So whenever he attempted the rain would douse the fire. He got frustrated, he did not know how to get over this problem. I have a boon, but at the same time Indra I can't uh uh satisfy him how to do that one. Then uh uh at that time uh Krishna along with uh Satyabama
and Arjuna and Arjuna had married to Subhadra at that time. Krishna invited him along with Satyabhama and Arjuna and Subhadra. Let us go for picnic. They went to the at that time in Agni came there in the form of a Brahmana and he said, I needed help. I needed help and I approached Arjuna. Arjuna said whatever help if Krishna permits Then he said, I want to eat this forest.
Indra is preventing. He then he said he was Agni. He came in the form of Brahmana. But Indra is preventing. I want you to protect. So Arjuna asked Shri Krishna, Shri Krishna said that is why I brought you here. you protect Agni was so happy, then he went to Brahma. and brought the bow and arrow from Brahma, the Gandiva. Gandiva, what Arjuna had, it is not Arjuna's bow. we say Gandiva is Arjuna's bow, it is not Arjuna, it is from Brahma.
he got it from Brahma and Agni went to Badrinath And from there, from the Badri Narayana he brought Krishna's own Sudarsana Chakra as a mark of respect he gave, handed over. Now, Arjuna built a waterproof quiver, Brahma's quiver, its unending arrows, waterproof shelter. And um uh uh uh then Agni started consuming re uh Indra fought a war, uh sorry, pu started pouring down water But this Arjuna's arrow could not do anything. Indra got angry. Arjuna was Indra's incarnation. He himself came down
Then he acknowledged Arjuna's ability, his own another Avatara and he gave a title Arjuna as Krishna. Krishna means a sincere student. He gave that title to Arjuna and he allowed Agni to consume. Agni was consuming in totality. But while consuming uh um if anything was escaping, Sri Krishna would point out to Arjuna. See that is escaping. And Arjuna would, whatever is escaping, Arjuna would kill those animals. And one such escape was four birds.
four birds, they escaped unhurt because they were Rishiputras. The Rishis, they were in the form of birds, they preferred, chose that form. had to exhaust their karma. As they were coming out, they started singing the mantras that came out as Thaytri Upanishad. They try to punish it and other beings escaped takšakas Sun and Maya Sura. I will talk about that one maybe this Saturday. This uh these four words, Titiri.
They sang the mantras, mantras because of the Rishi Putras, though Shri Krishna had seen, because they were the Rishis with the devotion, they were singing. He let them free. He let them free. That is the background about Thaytari Upanishad.
¶ Structure of Taittiriya Upanishad
În Taitri Upanishad, there are 3 secțiuni. One is Shikshavalli. Brahmavalli and Brugovalli. Bhrugu, Bhrugu Valli, Bhrugu, Bhrugu is the story of Bhrugu Rishi, Bhrugu Rishi, Deva Guru, Deva Guru is Bhrugu. and his father, Varuna. His quest for the Brahma, Brugo asked the question, I want to know about the Brahman. Varuna said, Go and meditate. He meditated and he thought this body is Brahma.
And he came back, meditated for one year and my body is Brahma. Varuna said, go and meditate again. Then he realized, not this body, my prana. Prana is Brahma. Then he asked him to meditate again, then he said My mana is the Brahma. He said meditate again. Intellect, intellect, vijnana is the intellect, buddhi is the Brahma. He said meditate again, Ananda, beyond the Anandamaya Kosha, that is what is there, the Supreme Lord, that is the Brahma. HIS FATHER GAVE THE EDUCATION TO HIS SON BRUGU
Brugu, that is a Brugualli. Bruguali talks about that one. And Brahmananda Walli talks about the all pancha koshas. प्रणमया, कोशा, अन्नमया, प्रणमया, मनोमया, विज्ञानमया, आनन्दमया, कोशा, Uh it's a Brahmananda Walli. In uh Shiksha Walli it is talking about uh proper pronunciation and pro proper how to express properly pronunciation and also it is talking about parting message from the teacher to the student.
Satyambhadam dharmam chara, swadhyayana pramadita uvyam, matra devobhava, pitra devobhava, acharya devobhava, these comes in shikshavalli. These are the introduction to Shikshavalli. It's a Thaytari Upanishad.
¶ Exploring the Universal Peace Mantra
It's the seventh one. Repeat after me. Om Dhyo Shanti. प्रती वी शान्ती О, шадая шанти. О, шадая шанти. ¡Gracias por ver el video! Yeah. Vishwe Deva Shanti. Σας ευχαριστώ. sarvam shanti ساماشان Yeah. 优优独播剧场——YoYo Television Series Exclusive This is a Universal Peace Mantra, prayer for the whole universe. Dhyoshanti, it is talking about Dhyoloka, Dhyoloka, whole sky, ethereal space everywhere. May there be in the heavenly region, may there be peace.
that region also. Many souls are departed, being are stuck there. It's a prayer. May the intermediate region. beings in that one, souls in that one, be at peace. Be at peace. In Ramakrishna Paramamsa story also is there. Don't go to that house. It's a haunted house. Nobody can stay. One night, but Ramakrishna Paramamsa said he would stay there, one soul was stuck there, had a very tragic death. tragic death, soul could not go but got stuck there.
So it was desperate to go uh go get out, but whoever goes, it was trying to wake them up, but people did not understand haunted house. but Ramakrishna Paramhamsa went there and meditated
¶ Dimensions of Universal Peace
The soul got the peace and left that house. It could continue the journey. Continue the journey. It talks about the if the karma is too heavy. Heavy because of the heavy karma, a soul can't travel further. It gets stuck. Stuck as uh uh like I said invested whole life in uh property here money here to go to go you need something when I want to travel if I want to travel to India I need some cash If I do not have any credit, how can I travel? That soul is stuck here.
and Dhyoshanti and maybe the heavenly region, all the divine beings be at peace. May the intermediate region be at peace. Prithivi shanti. Prithivi. May this earth, all living beings on this earth be at peace. Apash shanti, may water be at peace, all living beings in the water be at peace. Oshadaya Shanti, Oshadaya, Oshadi, Oshadi means what after the yield, what you, it's one crop, after that you chop it off.
Like a banana, banana is, after the banana has come, the result itself is a death of that plant. Once the banana is given from the plant, so that tree people will chop it up. The r fruit of that tree itself is its death. Like paddy. Once the crop has come, people mercilessly empty the paddy field. So work is done, the uh the uh it's uh production itself is a cause of death, that is Oshadi. Voshade that all the grains we eat, it's a Voshadi and for the next season they plant it again.
Voshadeyashanti, Vanaspatayashanti, Vanaspati, Vanaspati is in the forest. may there be abundance, continue to keep on giving that be the trees, trees, creepers, may they be at peace. Shanti, Bishwedeva Shanti, the guardians of this world, Bishwedeva. May there be the divine beings, guardians of every direction, every region.
and every direction, east, west, north, south, northeast, southeast, and there is all the direction upward, downward, around us be shanti, brahma shanti, brahma shanti means where may the supreme lord be peace, the meaning of this one, supreme lord is always at peace. Brahma shante means, May Brahma give shante to me. It's not I am praying for the God, may God give me the peace.
¶ Peace, Prosperity, and Inner Calm
The all things can be said other way, may the heavenly beings give peace to me. May the intermediate region beings give peace to me. May earth give me peace. May water be give me peace. May it's one of the Swami J is uh in nineteen uh two thousand and uh twelve he was here. He was when he came to Melbourne Airport he had a heart attack, then I took him admitted him to Western Hospital. I had operation and after that doctor said No water.
He was thirsty for water, but because of that one, heart was not functioning well. Fluid he has to reduce the fluid. He was crying for um water but doctors did not in the syringe they used to put water then he told me that uh uh give me a give Argya at your house for me. Do the argya for me that when I did, he said, now I am good. I'm feeling better.
that may the water give the peace to me, vanaspataya oshadaya shanti, may the crop be plenty, no starvation, may there be abundance, peace to me, vanaspataya, may the trees trees and animals living birds living on the trees, creepers give peace to me and Vishwedeva may the guardians. Give me the peace. Brahma may the Supreme Lord give me the peace. Sarvam shanti may everyone be at peace.
¶ The Philosophy of Peace Mantras
If others are agitated, how can I be at peace? In Gaza Strip, everywhere is wreckage. How can you be at peace when entire thing is ruined? இத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்துத்த sleep at peace and the war, may everyone be at peace, so I also be at peace.
Shanti Reva Shanti. It is saying that peace alone, Shanti alone, Blitz alone, nothing else. That ultimate sign of prosperity is peace. All our meditation is true in search of peace. How can I? My mind is so disturbed. How can I have Buddha in search of peace? Tranquility he left the palace. Shanti, Shanti, Shanti. It is talking about may there be peace in the heavenly region far and away. Adi Bhautik around me and in me. May there be peace.
This is a peace mantra, we can... in any public function that uh we talk about uh in any meeting we say in Australia we talk about uh we acknowledge the traditional owners of this land. and um we wish them well. This uh that whatever uh that Australian custom we acknowledge the um aboriginal land, this one goes beyond that one whole earth, whole universe is acknowledging the whole universe. Repeat again. Om Dhyo Shanti. Om Dhyo Shanti. Antara Kshyam Shanti. Patiwi shanti. Apa shanti.
the issue Продолжение следует... ساروامشانتي Shanti Reva Shanti He. Samashanti! İzlediğiniz için teşekkür ederim. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti Om Shanti This mantra, this one westerner, he wrote on the big wall in yoga and daily life, they had an ashram. and um he uh I explained him the meaning. He was so inspired, he wrote Westerner in wrote it in Sanskrit. It is a mantra, it's a peace mantra, peace for the wishing the well of the whole universe, this mantra.
This Shanti Mantra, this is the third mantra from Krishna Ayurveda, Krishna Ayurveda and other two mantras. we learnt or repeat after me from the Krishna Jirveda Om Sahana Vavato Sahano Bhunakto Sahaviryam Karavavahe Tejasvinavadhitamastamavidvishavahaye Om Shanti Shanti Shanti They show Thank you.
¶ Mantras for Coexistence and Learning
Upanishad and Vedas. Vedas are no composer. Why the Upanishad has been revealed? The mantra comes out there, it's a universal mantra. It's not praying that only my religion people, only my country people, only who follow my belief be happy. It is talking about, unlike other religion, this is talking about the whole universe. or even animals, animals, the aquatic animals, land animals, plants, trees, it is talking about everyone, everyone, universal prayer.
the Indian religion, the Vedas, have come out of abundance. The Vedas, Upanishad came out when there was abundance, Rishis could think of great. Whereas the Middle Eastern religion came out of the conflict, in the strife. Uh uh uh it's uh hit and run case, flight or fee, uh flee or fight situation. Upani that message whatever has come for that situation. Whereas Vopanishat and Vedas come out out of abundance. Think big, think lofty.
Whereas the Middle Eastern, it is a fight or flee situation, the messages have come, it is for that emergency case. This is the aspiration. What uh uh uh may we coexist together, may get nourished together, may uh let us do great things, may we inspire others to excel. may we cooperate, may we not fight each other, and another mantra we learnt, Om Shanno Mitraśam Vorunah. شَنَّو بَوَوَتْوَرِيَمَا شَنَّ إِنْدْرُو بْرِحَسْبَتِهِ شَنَّو بِشْنُرُو رُكْرَمَحَ Namo Brahmani Namo Brahmani Namaste Vayu.
थ्वाम्हे वाप्रत्यक्षंब्रम्हवदिश्यामे Action. ترجمة نانسي قنقر OM SHANTIS SHANTIS SHANTIS They should. The student here in this mantra I am not satisfied in my learning. I want to learn more. I want to learn more. My life I should dedicate for learning more and more for that Avatuma, may I be protected. For that, I need a Guru. Without Guru, my life I can't learn. May Guru be protected. May I be protected. May my Guru be protected.
The the this mantra shows the um thirst for knowledge from the student. Avatumam, I want to learn, I want to learn, may I be protected, may I not spend my days in my bed in the sickness. sickness or uh injuries My learning should continue incessantly. May my the Guru be part of my learning all through. That's uh the thirst for the knowledge from the student.
¶ Cultivating a Big Life Vision
test for the knowledge and these are the three Krishna Jirveda and Shukla Jirveda we learnt three Om Purnamada Purnamidam PORNAT PORNAMODACHA TE PORNACHA It is mantra is talking about uh think of uh have a big picture in your life, not a tunnel vision. Small picture if you're thinking small Petty thinking leads to petty results. Think big, think noble, think auspicious, think big, have a bigger picture in your life. This is talking about when you start having a bigger picture.
and not to think small, ordinary things. Because if you start thinking ordinary, you also become ordinary. Have a vision for your life. Bigger thing. And when you start thinking big there is no loss that when you are so vision is so big If somebody, I am a multi-millionaire, somebody gives me one dollar, still I am a multi-millionaire. I am a multi-millionaire, I lost one dollar, still I am a multi-millionaire. When you have your vision is so good, you won't be bogged down.
if you are only counting on cents So every addition becomes a big, every subtraction becomes a big lock. When your bigger picture, you are not bogged down by pinpricks in your life. nobody spin pranks in buddha story buddha story and one lady came विड़ विड़ विड़ विड़ विड़ विड़ विड़ विड़ विड़ विड़ विड़ विड़ विड़ विड़ With your power, make my child come off. cava c uh the uh great master in uh bible also is there one uh his disciple, somebody's close friend, childhood friend,
He died in the cave and Jesus from outside he called, Come out. That person came out. After coming out, what happened? Nobody knows. Many people just coming out back to your life is not a great thing. Many saints have done there should be a drastic change once you come back. What happens? That transformation Bible doesn't talk about. That person came back to life. What happened? He died again. that is no magic. Whereas in Buddha's case, that lady said, my son,
Yes, died. Then Buddha said, get me uh two the mustard seeds from the house where there is no death. So this lady and she thought, Oh, easy now this master will uh revive my wish. my son she went to one house they said last year my mother died another house my grandmother died for 10 years back my father died my wife died whole day she was wandering around, wandering around and then she convinced that death is a part of life.
Then Buddha she was realized at that time she said, Please take me as your disciple. You open my eyes and she became the disciple. Disciple just coming back to life and doing nothing and dying. There is no greatness in that one. This Buddha transformed that lady. This is talking about Purna mother. Always think big. Think!
¶ Embracing Reality and Purpose
open up your vision and another one we learned Satgamaya Tamasoma Jyotirgamaya Murturma Amrita ngamaya. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti. It is uh talking about may we lead a realistic life. We are living in a wonderland, fairyland, thinking that everything is rosy. May I open my eyes to the reality. uh imaginary world ground reality we should have a or ground reality in our life. not just live in imaginary world and asato ma sadgamaya.
Tamasoma Jyotir Gamaya and on Sunday somebody said after the class And I am in such a state now, and in my life, old age has... I haven't discovered what I wanted in my life. All these years I have spent on making extra dollar. I never cared about what I wanted. What I wanted now is at a state. Nobody wants me at home also. I am, he said my home, I am nice to have.
People say I'm nice to have. Even if I go, nobody bothers. Nice to have. And if my children call me dad, that means children want something. Otherwise they won't talk to me. That is the he said I realized that one. All through my life I wanted to do extra money, extra money. I have crossed. Now voltage has set in. My life I did not do anything. the now it is too late. One life has gone.
When to draw a line, how much is enough in the material? How much I have to do for my life? That Asatoma Sadgamaya. This thought should come early in our life. Not at the age of eighty. Oh, I wasted my life. As we are aging, we are isolating from today also, I told one teacher. or yoga teacher, as you are aging you will be isolated at home itself. your so called dear wife, you become a nice to have. Whether docent or your husband. Nice to have. And for that Start investing now.
¶ Path from Darkness to Inner Light
Higher thing, tamasoma jyotir gamaya, tamasoma jyotir gamaya, darkness to light, everywhere is darkness. I may have lights everywhere in my house but inside is very dark. How can I lit up my light within? When I am dying, how can I die happily? How can I die at peace? OM SHANTI SHANTI SHANTIHI There is a story from Eknath. Eknath, one person came to him, Saint Saint Eknath, you look so pious in your life, so noble in your life.
And it's uh he said very impressed, very impressed, but tell me is it only the outside or inside you feel uh the crookedness within? Then Yknath said, before I answer, while you are talking, I saw the lines in your hands. Before I forget, I will tell you your lines indicate. you will die in seven days from now. Seven days I can see. And uh that person did not wait for a further uh uh answer. He just walked out. While walking out he was feeling lesser weak, uh stumbled also.
And uh for next days uh stopped eating, all he was thinking, I am dying, I am dying, I am dying, I am dying. And on the seventh day, and he was in the bed already, people around him were crying, soon this person is going to die, soon person will going to die. And at that time, Eknath, he went and asked him, that uh what happened were he said I'm going to not to make jokes with me, I'm about to die.
Then Eknath asked him, did any sin come to you? Did you make any wrongful things in last seven days? Sir, how can I do la I am seeing the death in front of me? I could not do anything wrong. Ekranath తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా తా The death is in front of me all the time I see. When the death is in front of me when I see all the time, how can I make any mistake? I wanted to tell you the answer.
And he told, you're not going to die. I wanted to teach you a lesson. That person he came back. that the great pra masters they teach them lessons how to live and when you see the death in front of you how can I make mistakes?
¶ Universal Prayer for Well-being
