Episode description

Do you feel you're being helpful, only to be snapped at? Is your stepkid rolling their eyes at you? Do you feel at a loss when trying to connect with kids? Then you need this episode all about Phrasing.

Cody's super distilled show notes:

 Talking to kids:

1. Address them by their name.

2. Don't change your voice.

3. Physically get down to their level.

4. Go with the flow of conversation.

5. "Tell me more."

6. Name drop.

7. Show them your scars.

8. Learn a few kid games.

9. Get resourceful.

10. Avoid cheap tricks.

11. Be yourself.

Getting your kids to do what you say:

1. Always say what you Do want your child to do, and not what you Don't.

2. Create the illusion of choice.

3. Talk as if its a given that your child will do what you ask.

4. Say "Thank you" before, rather than after.

5. Always give your reasoning. (Yes. Sometimes, "Because I said so!", is valid reasoning. We've all been there.)

6. Put a positive spin on moaning.
